Chris walked on the crystal lake.

"The tracker," Ian said, "is on the other side of the lake."

"Did you ever meet the tracker," Chris asked Ian and Albert.

"Yes," Albert replied,

Sadly, I have, Albert thought to himself.

"I've never met the tracker," Ian said, "But I've heard all about him."

"Is he good at his job," Chris asked.

"Oh yes→ he's like a dog that finds missing people. The problem is he's not exactly who he says he is."

"I don't care if he's the devil himself," Chris said, "Nothing is going to stop me from rescuing Marie."

Ian put a hand on his father's shoulder.

"You need to remember that" he said.

Finally, they reached the tracker.

"So, this is the man who never gives up," the tracker commented, "Did anyone ever tell you being too stubborn is kind of stupid?"

"Constantally," Chris said, "Now ask me if I care? This is about my child."

The old man shook his hand.

"I'm Nick," he said, "Your love for your daughter is very strong. Is her love for you just as strong?"

Chris just folded his arms.

"We'll find her," Nick said, "But when we do nothing will break through to her. She's in hell because of her guilt and that is stronger than love. It is in fact reinforced by love. You won't be able to rescue her but you can say everything you have to say to her including goodbye. That will have to be enough."

"You just get me there," Chris said, "I'll decide what's enough. When do we leave?"

"Close your eyes," Nick told him.

Chris closed his eyes and when he opened them, he was in a familiar place.

"Why are we at the hospital I worked in," Chris asked, "And why is Annie in labor."

"This is a part of your past. You must go through the past to get to the present time."

"She was only five months pregnant. She woke me up saying her water broke. Being half asleep I said, 'can't we fix it tomorrow?'."

"Chris," Annie said crying, "I'm scared."

Chris squeezed her hand.

"I'm scared too," he said as a sharp pain hit her causing her to scream.

"Let's get you something for the pain," Albert said.

"Is that safe for the baby?" Annie asked

Chris nodded and reassured her that the baby and her would be absolutely fine. He didn't believe it for a second. The baby was very premature, and he or she would have a lot of problems.
