Hi Readers: Sorry for having deleted the story again, but I just got lost as to where I wanted to take the story. But now, I got it back and that's all that matters. Hopefully, you enjoyed the first chapter. Thanks again for reading, and let's get on with the story.
Chapter 2
Part 1: Antonio
Firehouse 51 - It was early. Far too early for him to be awake at this hour, especially since he still had another two hours left in his shift. What if he had another call? What if he had to go on another run with Truck 81? What if Gabby needed him? Those were the questions which were currently floating around in Matt's mind as he stood at the door of his office, having quietly gotten out of bed so that he could go to the washroom. And now, he was thinking of either getting back in bed with Gabby as it was five in the morning; or, he could go sit in the common room and take this time to think. After all, that's what he needs to do right now. He just needs to take some time to think, as he has so much on his mind. So, he either could think about everything he had in his mind here in bed with his wife, or he could do so quietly in the common room. Then again, what if Gabby needed him? Sighing as he thought about it, Matt looked at his wife. The gorgeous woman who was risking everything for him, just so that they could have a child. Sorry, children.
God, he didn't even know that was a possibility. Having already struggled so much to even get pregnant, he never expected to get this news; then again, he didn't want this news at first. But now that he's felt her baby bump under his hand, it just made it all so real. His miracle was pregnant with their child, and he felt…excited. Or, at least what he thought was excited; after all, he couldn't get too excited. Could he? Could he get excited at the possibility that he could be a father to not just one child, but to two? And not just any children, his biological children with the love of his life? Is he allowed to get excited about that, even when it's really scary? After all, this pregnancy could both make him a father…and it could also result in his wife's death. God, so much to think about all at once; so much to process, though he's yet to do so properly. And while he wishes he could start, he felt like it was too early to do that when his brain was still half asleep. Hell, he still didn't believe his eyes: Gabby was back, pregnant in the firehouse. That was unbelievable.
Just like how Matt couldn't believe what his brother-in-law just did at six in the morning. "Matt!" Antonio said, as he rushed into the firehouse. "Matt. I was supposed to go to your place this morning. Gabby isn't…" Turning his head, Matt looked at Antonio and then made his way over to him to get him to shut up. "Hey, hey. Take a breath." Looking at Matt. "Why are you so calm? Wait, don't you…" Matt then shook his head. "Hey, no. I know. It's just…she's right here, Antonio. She's right here, in my bed." Walking forward a bit, Antonio let out a sigh of relief when he saw that his baby sister was in Matt's bed right now. "Oh, sorry. I…" Matt shook his head, as he knew why he did that: he was worried about his sister. "Hey, don't sweat it. I get it. You're worried about your sister." Antonio sighed, as he was worried about his sister. "Yeah, I am. I mean…" Antonio then took another breath, as he knew that he had no right to talk to Matt this way. Though, it seemed like Matt was open to them talking. "What do you say we go sit in the common room?"
Antonio sighed as he looked at Matt. "Yeah, I think it's time we do." Sensing a bit of tension there, Matt sighed. "Did she tell you about our fight and everything? And did she go into all the details?" Antonio looked at Matt when he said that. "You mean, how you told her that you don't want to have a baby with her? That you don't want this?" Antonio said, raising his voice a bit as he said the later question. "Did she mention the medical condition she has?" Antonio was confused when he heard Matt say that, as he had no idea what he was talking about. "What are you talking about? What medical condition?" Matt sighed as he looked at his brother-in-law, clearly able to tell that he was even more worried about his sister now than he was when he arrived at the firehouse. But what was even worse, was that he was going to have to tell Antonio about Gabby's medical condition, rather than have her mention it. "Listen, you up for some coffee? Or do you want to leave and go home to rest some more?" Antonio nodded. "I'd love one as we talk."
Matt agreed with Antonio as he said that, only to lead his brother-in-law to the common room where they could talk to each other.
Making his way over to the table where Antonio was sitting and waiting for him this morning, Matt smiled as he held out a cup of coffee he just made for him. "Here, a nice cup of coffee for you, brother." Antonio snickered as Matt said that. "When was the last time you made yourself a cup of coffee here, Captain?" Moving to sit down, Matt sighed as he got comfortable in his chair. "Pretty much every night in the middle of the night at some point. Haven't slept that well here at the firehouse…hell, at all really…ever since Gabby left." Antonio agreed, as he could see the bags under his eyes; making it crystal clear to him that he didn't sleep much while his sister was gone. "Ok. How about we restart? Let's just take a breather and restart. Clearly, I don't know the entire story and…" Matt then went to snap a bit. "No, you don't know the entire story. So, for you to be mad at me like you clearly are, it isn't fair to me." Hearing himself snap at his brother-in-law, Matt felt absolutely horrible. After all, that was the last thing he wanted to do.
He was going to need his help to get through this; yet, here he was snapping at him. "Antonio, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at you. I truly mean that. That was the last thing I wanted to do. Please, accept my apology." Antonio agreed, as he knew that he didn't want to snap at him due to the fact that he saw the guilt in his eyes the moment he said those words; something Gabby told him all about when she told him about the conversation they had before she left. "Ok. Now I see what Gabby meant when she said that she knew you were sorry you said those words the moment they came out of your mouth." Confused, Matt raised his eyebrow at his brother-in-law as he tried to figure out what he meant by that. "Sorry, I'm not following you when you say that. What are you talking about, Antonio?" Antonio snickered as he went to take a sip of his coffee. "Gabby told me about what you said to her." Matt sighed, as he figured that she did. "Antonio, like I said. You don't know the entire story. You don't know my side of the story whatsoever."
Antonio agreed once more, as that was the case. He didn't know his side of the story, which was why he decided to accept the cup of coffee that he offered; that way, he could find out about the medical condition his sister neglected to tell him about. "Ok. Listen, how about you just let me talk, okay? Let me get it out. You already know Gabby's side of the story, but how about you let me get my side out. You can stop me along the way if you have questions, but you need to let me explain how that sentence came out of my mouth." Antonio agreed with Matt. "You mean, how you told her that she can't have a baby?" Matt sighed as he knew that was the worst thing he could've ever said to Gabby…and he's been regretting it ever since. "I've regretted saying that ever since those words came out of my mouth, Antonio. You have to know that." Antonio agreed, as he could just feel it in his heart that he meant it when he said that. "Antonio, listen. I don't want to justify what I said. But, I was acting out of fear." Antonio nodded, as he could understand that.
And that was why he decided to listen. "Antonio, you know I have a history. I'm not going to hide from the fact that Gabby wasn't my first choice, even though she should've been." Antonio was surprised when he heard that. "Really?" Matt nodded. "Oh, one hundred percent. Looking back, I'm appalled that I even proposed to Hallie. I hate that Gabby wasn't the first woman I proposed to. The first woman I lived with. I regret that more than anything, because of how much I truly love my wife. I love her, and I always want what's best for her." Antonio agreed. "But, back to what I was saying. The way I lost Hallie…it was unimaginable. I mean, I'm a firefighter who's trained to save people from fires…and I couldn't even save my own fiancé." Antonio nodded, as he knew that was true. "So, now, back to the situation with Gabby. Now that you've thought about how I lost Hallie, think about this situation. I wasn't able to save Hallie when her life was in my hands. Now, that's the same case with my wife. Antonio, did she tell you about the aneurysm?"
Antonio was confused when he heard Matt say that. "Ok. What? What aneurysm?" Matt sighed and just shook his head. "C'mon Gabby! Why must you do this to me!" Antonio was confused even more when Matt said that. "What are you talking about?" Matt sighed. "She's YOUR sister. Why couldn't she tell you herself, rather than have me tell you so that I don't have to deal with your wrath. And don't tell me that's not the reason why you came here: to yell at me and finally have it out with me. I know for a fact that's why you're here, because you sure ain't here to see Brett." Antonio looked up at Matt when he said that. "Did she tell you?" Matt shook his head. "No need. I read the report myself. I understood why she left the moment I read it. I mean, along with what I did to her. I mean, any woman would want to run if they were feeling the way Gabby did. God, I am so ready to take Sylvie to the side and talk to her this morning." Hearing Matt say that as she walked into the kitchen shortly after getting back from a run, Sylvie was confused.
After all, what did he need to talk to her about? "What do you need to talk to me about, Matt?" Turning his head, Matt was surprised when he saw Sylvie there. Though, he was glad that she was here…because now that she was here, he most certainly was not going to pass up the chance to talk to her about what happened on the last day Gabby was here. "So, you've been lying to me all summer long." Sylvie was confused when she heard Matt say that. "Sorry, what?" Matt just looked at Sylvie. "Oh, save it Sylvie. I know what you did to Gabby on your last call." Sylvie got nervous when she heard Matt say that. "How dare you throw the Ambo bag at my wife? How dare you tell her not to ride with you on Ambo 61, when her best friend's name is engraved on the side of it?" Antonio just looked at Matt when he said that. "Sorry, she threw the ambo bag at my sister!" Sylvie got nervous, while Matt added on. "I read the report, but Gabby did tell me. I know all about what you did Sylvie, and I'm appalled that you even thought you could get away with it."
Sylvie got nervous as she heard Matt say that. "Are you going to make a report?" Matt bit his lip. "Regardless, I don't want you anywhere near my wife. She's here at the firehouse, and she's pregnant with my children!" Sylvie was surprised. "She's pregnant with your children? How many?" Matt smiled. "Twins. I'm hoping to have sons." Antonio was surprised to hear Matt say that. "Really? Normally, the dad always wants girls first." Turning his head, Matt looked at Antonio. "Three of Gabby, and one of me?" Antonio just snickered when Matt said that, as that would be true. "You really think that's how I want to start my journey as a dad? Hell, I don't even know whether that journey will be with or without Gabby." Confused as she heard Matt say that, Sylvie grew concerned. "What do you mean by that?" Turning his head, Matt shook his head. "Don't show concern now. You hurt my wife before she left, and I'm not happy about that. So, how about you get out of here and stop bothering me. Don't come near me or my family again."
Sylvie got nervous as Matt said that, prior to rushing away. "Oh, protective Matt is coming out." Matt agreed with Antonio. "Do you blame me? She hurt my wife and could've killed her if it hit her in the wrong way. What if it hit the aneurysm?" Antonio got worried when he heard Matt say that, as that could've easily happened. And had it happened, then things would not be good around here right now. "Oh boy." Matt agreed. "Yeah, talk about hindsight. Knowing that Sylvie did that, that's just scary and I hate that I even got close to her this summer. God, I'm such an idiot." Antonio shook his head. "You didn't know." Matt nodded as he went to take another sip of his coffee, only to hear Gabby come out of the back. "Baby, you out here? It's 6:30 in the morning." Seeing his sister come out, Antonio smiled. "There's the future mother." Gabby was surprised when she saw her brother. "Antonio?"
Walking over to his sister this morning, Antonio smiled as he hugged her and just held her in his arms for a moment. "Hey, how are you?" Gabby smiled. "Happy to be home, and happy to have talked about some things with Matt." Matt agreed as he got up this morning, as he wanted to greet his wife as well. But, he didn't just do so by hugging her; rather, he got close to her and kissed her, all the while wrapping his arm around her back. "Hey, I didn't hear you wake up. You sleep okay?" Gabby agreed with her husband, as she did sleep okay. "Up until you left. Are you okay?" Matt agreed, as he's okay. "Yet, just have a lot on my mind at the moment." Gabby agreed with Matt, thinking that she already knew what he was talking about. "You mean, the pregnancy?" Matt sighed. "Amongst other things. I'm just ready to take you home so that we can rest and take it easy." Gabby agreed with her husband, as she felt the same way. She wants to go home and rest with her husband, while also getting a bit of attention from him.
After all, she did miss her husband. "Maybe not just rest, though." Matt smirked, as he loved the sound of that. "I like that idea." Nodding, Gabby agreed with her husband as she made her way over to the table and sat down in what used to be her regular chair. Meanwhile, Antonio sat back down and just smiled at his sister (who looked quite happy that she was home). "You happy to be home, sis?" Gabby agreed, as she was very happy to be home with her husband. "I've missed Chicago." Laughing a bit, Antonio knew what his sister really meant. She missed her husband, not just the city. "I think you mean that you missed Matt, not just the City of Chicago." Gabby agreed with her brother, as she most certainly did miss Matt. "Just like any wife would." Smiling, Matt agreed as he reached for her hand. "I spoke to Sylvie, just to let you know." Antonio agreed with his sister. "I'm sorry that happened again, sis." Gabby agreed with her brother, well aware that he was sorry. "It wasn't either of your faults, so you guys can take it easy and relax."
Matt agreed with his wife, as he knew that was precisely what she needed to do as well: take it easy and relax, which is why he's so surprised that she's not still in bed. "Why aren't you in bed, babe? I'd think you'd want to relax." Gabby smiled. "I want to be with you, as well. I mean, we haven't been together for months." Matt bit his lip, as he wanted to say something rude; then again, it was his fault. "Yeah, that's a tough one to talk about." Confused, Gabby looked at her husband. "You didn't come back because you didn't want to tell me, but I was the one that made you leave in the first place." Gabby agreed, as she understood that. "But now, we're in a better place and we're going to work on our marriage going forward." Smiling, Matt agreed with Gabby. "I was going to talk to Boden this morning. See whether I can take some time off. He should be up soon since shift change is in 30 minutes." Hearing Matt say his name, Boden was confused. "Something you need to talk to me about Matt?" Matt smiled when Boden asked him that.
After all, he did. "I was just about to ask. Do you mind if I take a bit of time off? Gabby just got back in town, and we need to do some things to welcome her home." Gabby blushed, as she thought that he meant romantic things; though, that wasn't the case. "We need to get her an OB/GYN and stuff like that. The last thing I want is for something to go wrong during the pregnancy." Turning her head, Gabby looked at Matt; especially when she heard the concern in his voice. "You're worried, aren't you?" Sighing as he reached for Gabby's hand, Matt agreed as he intertwined their fingers. "Of course, I'm worried Gabby. I mean, you're pregnant." Gabby agreed, as she knew that; and she also knew that he was talking about when he said that: he was referring that she was pregnant with twins, while also having an aneurysm. "We can talk about it, if you want." Matt nodded, as that was something they were going to do. Just, not yet. Right now, she just got home, and he wants to take it easy with her. "Not yet. Let's just take it easy and relax."
Turning his head to look at Boden once more, Matt was still waiting for an answer to his question. "And that brings me back to the question I asked Chief Boden, about some time off?" Boden smiled, as he could do without Matt for a while. "You should take some time off, Matt. Be with Gabby, figure out what the future looks like for you. I can have Andy take over for a while." Turning her head, Gabby was confused. "Andy?" Matt nodded. "He just made Lieutenant." Gabby was surprised when she heard Matt say that. "And there wasn't a party over that? Knowing Andy, he would've celebrated that." Laughing, Matt shook his head. "Oh, there was a party at Molly's. Too bad you can't go there and celebrate being home, with you being pregnant and all." And that's when Matt turned his head and looked at Antonio. "And speaking of alcohol. You sir behave. I don't know why you went to rehab this summer, but you sir do not get to do anything to make Gabby worry about you. If you relapse, then call your kids. Gabby needs to rest for the sake of our kids."
Boden was surprised when he heard Matt say kids, as in plural. "Kids? As in, more than one?" Gabby nodded. "We're having twins. I said that last night, Boden." Boden agreed as he remembered that now. "Right, sorry." Gabby agreed with Boden and smiled, only to turn her head and look at her husband. "Matt, do you mind making me some breakfast? We're up early. So, we may as well have some breakfast here, then we can just go to bed when we get home." Matt agreed, as he liked that idea. That was, until Antonio got up. "Let me. I owe it to Matt for not having called him." Matt shook his head. "No, it's ok. I want to cook for Gabby." Matt smirked as he bent down and kissed the top of her head, only to bend down and whisper in her ear. "You can show me whether I did a good job or not when we get home." Smirking as he kissed her cheek, Matt walked away to the kitchen to make breakfast. Meanwhile, Gabby smiled as that most certainly is exactly how she's going to show him whether he made a good breakfast: by having him in bed.
Part 2: Home Again (for Now)
Casey Home – She didn't care that he was sweaty, she didn't care that all of their clothes were literally thrown onto the ground; in fact, she liked it that way. She loved the fact that they literally stripped down and threw all of their clothes onto the floor, as it meant that she was one step closer to getting what she wanted: Matt in bed. And now that he was making his way over to her in his boxers, she was even more excited to have him in bed. God, the way his muscles just rippled as he walked over to this morning was perfect. It was precisely what she wanted to see, especially after having ran her hands all over his muscular body through his shirt last night. "God, you truly have buffed up baby." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, only to walk up to her so that he could get her undressed. "And what do you think?" Smiling as she stepped close to Matt, Gabby soon placed her hands on his chest as she stared into his eyes. "I love it. It's such a turn on, especially when my hormones are going crazy right now." Matt agreed.
After all, he loved how gorgeous she looks right now too. The way her pregnant body looks in this gorgeous lingerie she was wearing for him is stunning, which is precisely why he just wrapped his arm around her back and tugged her body against his chest. After which, he placed his hand on her stomach and smiled as he looked down at his future children. As he did so, Gabby could see the worried look on his face. "Matt, I hope you know that I never intended to hide this from you too long." Turning his head when Gabby said that, Matt shook his head as he knew that. "Baby, I know that. Please, don't think otherwise. Of course, I know that you wanted to tell me this as soon as you could." Gabby nodded, as that's precisely the case: she wanted to tell Matt as soon as she could, but she needed to wait. "Believe me, Matt. I wanted to tell you this news right away. I wanted to tell you that your dreams were coming true, but I knew that it'd be much better if I did it in person." Matt agreed, as it was much better that she was here to tell him.
Learning that she was pregnant from her in person was incredible, as it meant that he got to hold her as he found out. "I loved that you decided to do it in person, as it meant that I got to hold you as you did it. Gabby, I can see that this is hard for you." Sighing, Gabby agreed with Matt as she walked away from the end of their bed as she needed to lay down; however, Matt interpreted that as him having said or done something wrong. "Did I do something wrong?" Turning around to face Matt as he asked her whether he did something wrong, Gabby shook her head as that couldn't be further from the truth. "No, of course not, baby. I promise. You didn't do anything wrong." Matt agreed with Gabby as he proceeded to make his way over to her, only to grab her hand once they were standing with each other next to their bed for the first time in months. "I'm just scared that I did the wrong thing, in not having told you sooner. I mean, you have to be mad at me that I didn't tell you sooner." Matt sighed, as he was mad at one point.
He was mad when he was on his way to the fire. "Gabby, at one point, I was mad. I was mad on the way to the fire because it was so fresh on my mind." Placing her hand on Matt's face, Gabby agreed with her loving husband as they held each other close. "But, that's changed now. I don't feel the same way now, due to the fact that I also understand why you didn't tell me. You thought you knew how I would react based on the way I yelled at you here, and I'm sure that scared you." Gabby agreed with her husband. "I thought that it would just be too much. So much, that it would cause me either to miscarry or…" Matt sighed, as he knew precisely what Gabby was talking about. She thought that he would yell at her and overwhelm her, only to cause her aneurysm to burst. "And I get that, baby. But, you could've also texted me, or even called me to let me know. Then, I would've known that I needed to stay calm when I first saw you. Gabby, you don't think I would've done that for you?" Gabby agreed with her husband. "I'm not having an abortion."
Matt nodded, as he already knew that. He already knew that under no circumstances was she going to get an abortion, as that just wasn't who his wife is. Plus, this was her dream come true: to be pregnant with their child. And now, not only was she pregnant with one of their children; but rather, she was pregnant with two of their children. And that was precisely why Gabby just couldn't give up on this pregnancy. "Matt, I need you to know that I love you more than anything. And I understand now how scared you are, because we talked about it last night. And had I thought about what happened to Hallie, then I know that would've come into consideration. I mean that babe, I would've thought about that." Matt agreed with his wife, well aware that was the case. "I hate that I'm bringing her into our marriage, as that was the last thing I ever wanted to do, Gabby." Gabby agreed with Matt as she turned around. After all, she was more than ready to get in bed with Matt right now. And as she got in bed, Matt decided to slap her ass to play with her.
"HEY!" Smirking as he looked at his gorgeous, sexy, pregnant wife, Matt just shook his head. "You left it wide open for me to do that, and you know it. You know that you're a turn on, and that you love it when I play with you like that sometimes." Gabby agreed as she turned around and then got up on her knees, only to Matt get close to her and wrap his arms around her. Meanwhile, she wrapped her arms around his neck and smiled as she leaned in and kissed the man of her dreams softly. "I love you Matt, and I need you to remember that. That's why I'm doing this, because I love you and I know that this is your dream." Matt agreed, as he knew that this was his dream: to be a father to their children. "Yes. And I'm sorry again for everything. I hope you can forgive me, Gabby…as I don't know what I'd do if you didn't forgive me. I was a horrible husband." Gabby shook her head as she placed her hands on Matt's face, only to lean her forehead against his. "Being a concerned husband, and a horrible husband are two very different things."
Gabby said, as she leaned in and left a soft kiss on Matt's lips. "What you were being that morning was a concerned husband, who was scared. I know that now Matt, because I can still see the fear all over you. I can see how worried you are." Matt agreed with his wife, as he was scared. "Gabby, last time we spoke about this…it was all a hypothetical. It was if you got pregnant. Now, you are pregnant. And it's my fault that your life is at risk. I'm just scared that something will happen, and that I'll kill you." Leaning her forehead against Matt's once more, Gabby hated the sound of those words. I'll kill you. And while she knew that she couldn't dismiss Matt's feelings right away (that was something they need to work on), she also knew that she needed to show him that (a) that wouldn't be the case, and (b) that she could survive this. "Matt, you just need to have faith that everything will go okay. You need to have faith in me." And it was just then that a lightbulb went off in Matt's head. Did Gabby truly believe that he didn't have faith in her?
No, he was wrong. He didn't just hear Gabby say that she thought that he didn't have faith in her, that was ludicrous; of course, she knew that he had faith in her, right? "Gabby, sorry…did I just hear what you said right? Did you just imply that I don't have faith in you?" Gabby sighed and looked down, as that was how he made it sound like before she left to go to Puerto Rico: that he didn't believe in her, that he didn't have faith in her ability to successfully carry a pregnancy to term…and survive the pregnancy. But, rather than say anything, she just teared up. "Oh, baby. I'm…I'm sorry Gabby. Here, can I get in bed with you?" Gabby nodded, as that was precisely what she wanted: she wanted him to get in bed with her so that they could hold each other close right now.
Laying down in their bed together for the first time in months, Matt and Gabby both took some breaths as they held each other in silence so that they could calm down; after all, the emotions of Gabby's statement were still raw. In fact, she was still crying, even though Matt was holding her in his arms. "God, I hate that I'm crying." Matt shook his head as he ran his hand up and down her back. "Hey, don't be sorry about that, Gabby; you have every right to cry. Baby, I love you and I hate that I made you feel that way. Hell, I want to cry too. I truly mean it when I say that I hate how I made you feel, as it was the last way I ever wanted to make you feel: like I didn't have faith in you. Gabby, of course, I have faith in you." Gabby nodded as she looked up at the man of her dreams. "I know, I just…I just never felt it when it came to the pregnancy. You just shut it down so fast. I felt like you didn't even give me a chance to really process it. And even worse, you got those pamphlets right away. Matt, I need to talk to you about that." Matt agreed.
After all, she clearly had something on her mind. "Matt, you literally got those pamphlets less than a week after we got the news from the doctor. I needed time to process it. Process the fact that it was dangerous for me to make my husband's dream come true. And I know, that sounds like a big statement." Matt shook his head. "Hey, of course, it isn't. This is my dream come true. I've always wanted to be a dad. We both know that." Gabby agreed with her husband. "So, I needed time to really figure that out. I needed to realize that this may not happen for you. And that may mean the end of our marriage." Matt was shocked that she said that. "What? The end of our marriage?" Gabby nodded. "Matt, you have a history when it comes to this. You ended your engagement with Hallie because she didn't want to have kids! How am I not supposed to think that way? Add in the fact that you said what you said, and I thought that our marriage was over when I left to go to Puerto Rico. So, I was shocked when you came for my birthday." Matt agreed once more.
Not only due to the fact that he knew that was the truth as it was what Gabby was telling him, but based on the face he saw when he went down there for her birthday; she looked so happy to see him, yet also like she was shocked that he even came. And now that he knew why Gabby acted that way, it made total sense that she was surprised that he came. "Now it makes sense, why you were so surprised when I came down for your birthday." Gabby agreed with Matt, as that was why she was surprised. "Yes. And had I known you were coming, I would've prepared. I would've gotten the necessary stuff so that we could have sex." Matt sighed, as he knew that was hard for her to say; he could just hear it in her voice, as it cracked. "I can tell that was hard for you to say that." Gabby agreed with her husband, as it was hard for her to say. "And it sounded so wrong, especially since it wasn't in a sexy way. I mean, I should've been getting lingerie set up and just getting all sexy and dolled up for you. Rather, I'm thinking about making sure that I'm safe."
Matt sighed, as he knew that was the last thing she wanted to be thinking about when they have sex. "I hate hearing that Gabby. And I'm so sorry about that. I truly mean that. That's just horrible." Gabby agreed with Matt, as it was horrible. It truly was the last thing she wanted to worry about when she wanted to enjoy her husband in bed, yet it was something she had to worry about. "I just hope that I survive to show you wrong." Matt agreed, especially since he was going to make sure that she survives. "There's no other option Gabby. I'm going to make sure that everything is okay. I'm going to take care of you, and I'm going to make sure that you're safe for your entire pregnancy. I mean that from the bottom of my heart, and I promise that you can trust me to do that for you." Matt said, as he placed his hand on the back of Gabby's head and kissed her softly; meanwhile, Gabby wrapped her arms around his back and nodded as she took things nice and slow with the man of her dreams. "I know that Matt, I promise."
Smiling as he stroke Gabby's cheek with his thumb, Matt shook his head as he stared into her eyes. "You have no idea how nice it is to be holding you here, in our bed again as I kiss you. I've missed you Gabby, and I hate how this summer went. If I could go back, I would change so much." Gabby agreed, as she felt the same way. If she could go back, she wouldn't have left. Though, that may mean she wouldn't be pregnant. "I wouldn't." Matt was shocked. "You wouldn't?" Gabby sighed as she placed her hand on her stomach. "Matt had I not left…then you wouldn't have come to see me when you did, then we wouldn't have gotten pregnant with the twins. And I know, that's selfish of me but…" Matt shook his head. "No, I get it. And you're right. Had you stayed, we wouldn't be pregnant with the twins. We may not even be living together at the moment." Gabby sighed, as she knew that was the truth. "Can I ask you a question, Matt?" Matt nodded, as she could always ask him a question. "Always." Gabby sighed. "What happened to us, Matt?"
Part 3: What Happened to Us, Matt?
Now that was the question which had to be hanging over the both of them for the longest time, as it was the most crucial question each of them were dealing with at the moment. What happened to them? What happened to their marriage? What happened to the way they treated each other. What happened to them always being friends first? Their entire romantic relationship was built upon their years-long friendship. Yet, they somehow let it get to this place where they were (at one point) on the verge of ending it all. But now, they really needed to figure things out. "I mean it. What happened to us, Matt? How did we get here?" Sighing as Gabby asked him that question, Matt truly didn't have the answer; after all, he truly had no idea how they got here. How they ended up in a place where their relationship was in a state where they could lose each other forever, unless they figure out how to fix their marriage. "I don't know, Gabby. That's the truth. I don't know how we got here. How we got to a place where we could lose each other."
Gabby agreed with Matt, as she knew that was the reality: their marriage was at a point where, if they don't fix it, they could lose each other forever, which is the last thing she wants. Whether it be because they break up, or because the worst possible situation happens when it comes to her aneurysm, the pregnancy, and the twins. She wants this life for her and Matt, and that's why they need to fight for their marriage. "Matt, I love you. And I want to fight for our marriage. I want us to be together for the rest of our lives, that's a fact. I want to raise the twins together, and I want to defy the odds. I don't want our kids to have to live in a world where their parents aren't together, married, and in love. I don't want them to have to rotate and have two homes, I want us to be together." Matt agreed, as he felt the same way. Sure, it was scary to think that anything worse than that could happen, but it was the best-case scenario for him. "I hate to tell you this Gabby, but that's a scenario I could live with." Gabby was offended when she heard Matt say that.
After all, did that mean he didn't want to fight for their marriage? "Does that mean that you think that our marriage is over?" Matt shook his head, as that wasn't what he meant. "No, I'm just talking hypothetically. Say our marriage didn't work out, then I would rather it be due to the fact that we decided to go our separate ways after we had the twins, rather than have it end tragically. That's what I mean, Gabby." Gabby then realized that. "That way, the kids would still get to know you, we would still be in each other's lives, and there would still be hope for us in the future. I mean, it's not like we can stay away from each other forever, we love each other too much." Gabby smirked as she placed her hand on Matt's face, only to kiss him softly. "I think you mean that we're addicted to having sex with each other." Matt smiled as Gabby said that, as he most certainly is obsessed with having sex with his gorgeous wife. "Do you blame me? You're amazing in bed." Gabby shook her head, as she doesn't blame him one bit as she wants him too.
She wants him to make love to her, as they take some time to celebrate being back together; and maybe, that they're pregnant with the twins. "In fact, I want to have you in bed. And if it's okay, I'd like to make it a celebration. Listen Matt, I know that this is scary and not what you want." Matt shook his head. "Not anymore. This is what I want Gabby, I promise. I want you to be pregnant, as we never thought you could. It was so hard for us to get pregnant. And now that it happened, I'm happy." Gabby smiled, as she felt the same way. "That's precisely how I felt. Sure, the timing wasn't the best with us being separated and all, but it just felt like it was supposed to happen. Matt, we're supposed to be parents. We're supposed to have this life together, and we're supposed to raise our kids together. I know what the doctor said, but this is US we're talking about. We overcame a long-distance marriage, we overcame multiple breakups, we overcame Louie, we overcame horrible fights, we overcame Shay's death together." Matt agreed with Gabby.
After all, they did overcome all of those obstacles to them having a nice life with each other. "We have each other Matt, and I love that. I love you, and I think that's all that matters at the end of the day: that we have each other, and we could be having a family. Sure, this is risky, but we'll find a way to get me through it. There are doctors that specialize in this." Matt agreed with his wife as he ran his fingers up and down her back, only to lean in and kiss her softly. "Yes, there are. And we're going to find you one to take care of you. Then, we're going to find a new home for our family." Gabby was surprised when she heard Matt say that. "You want to find a new home for us? What's wrong with this place?" Matt sighed as he stared into Gabby's eyes. "Ever since we got back here, all I can think about is what I said to you. Most of the good memories that we have here are gone, and that's not what I want for the home where we're going to raise our family. I mean…" Gabby shook her head, as she understood what Matt meant.
He didn't want those horrible memories hanging over them as they started fresh, which is why she thinks that them looking for a new place is a good idea; however, maybe not yet. "Can we wait, though? Matt, I'm not sure if I like the idea of moving in winter." Matt nodded, as he understood that. That would probably be quite hard on them. "Yeah, I get that. That would be hard." Gabby sighed, only to ask Matt the question which they need to decide together. "Are you okay with us staying here until we have the kids? Or do you think that the fight we had here will overshadow the pregnancy and the joy that comes with having twins?" Matt was surprised that Gabby would even think that he thought that way. "What? Gabby. God, no! Of course, I don't feel like the fight would overshadow the pregnancy. Gabby, you're pregnant with our first children, again." Gabby nodded. "Can we just call them our first children? I don't want to think about the last one. That'll just remind me that I have an aneurysm and…" Matt agreed with Gabby as he stroke her arm.
In the process, he calmed her down and just got her to relax. "Hey, of course, we can do that. We can do whatever you need to make sure that you're calm and just taking it easy. If that means that you need us to refer to this as your first pregnancy, then we will. I promise, I can do whatever you need to make sure that you're calm and just taken care of. I love you Gabby." Matt said, prior to leaning in and kissing the love of his life softly. "I've always loved you." Gabby agreed with Matt as she placed her hand on his face, well aware that he's always loved her. "I know that, and I've always loved you too. And I'm so proud to call you my husband. Now, just to talk about what we're going to do when it comes to work. Matt, I…" Matt agreed with Gabby. "We have money, Gabby. We can figure things out. I probably don't need to work right now, which would probably make you quite happy as it means that I would be safe." Gabby agreed, as that would make her quite happy. "And you'd be okay doing that?" Matt agreed, as he would.
He'd be okay doing whatever he needs to do in order to help her with her pregnancy. "I just want what's best for you when it comes to your health, as well as the pregnancy. Remember that, babe." Gabby agreed with Matt and smiled. "Then, do you think that we can take a nap? I know that I said I wanted to have sex, but I haven't been sleeping the best lately. I've been so worried about what you would say whether I would be with you when I came home and…" Moving his hand to the back of Gabby's head once more, Matt brought her lips against his prior to kissing her softly this morning. "Breathe, baby. Breathe." Gabby agreed with her husband, doing just that. "I understand. You want to take a nap because you had a long flight, and the bed wasn't that good at the firehouse. I promise, we're going to do whatever we can to make sure that you're sleeping well. And right now, that means that you need to take a nap in my arms. Is that what you want?" Gabby agreed, as that's precisely what she wants to do: take a nap in his arms.
That way, she can cuddle up to him as they hold each other close now…and for the rest of their lives. "Promise me that we never talk about death again? I can't think that way, Matt. I need to concentrate on the future. Yes, we can go to doctors and stuff, but…" Leaning in to kiss Gabby once more, Matt nodded as that was something he could definitely do for her. They could concentrate on her living and just being okay, because she was going to be okay for the rest of her life. So, that was precisely what they were going to concentrate on: her being okay and being there when they have kids. "I promise, we can do that. I love you Gabby, so we'll do that. And we're also going to work on our marriage, so that it's in a better spot for when the twins are here. For when we're raising them together. I promise, we're going to be together going forward. And, I think, until our marriage is in a better place…then I may not go back to the firehouse for another shift." Gabby was surprised when Matt said that. "Do you mean that?" Matt agreed with Gabby.
After all, she mattered more to him than work; especially when he didn't need to work. "You mean more to me than work ever will. I love you, and you're my world Gabby. I promise, I want to make this work. And together, we're going to do just that." Smiling, Gabby agreed as she felt the same way. She felt like they would make it work, as long as they worked together. "I love the sound of that. Now, how about you kiss me until we fall asleep?" Matt agreed with Gabby as he said that, only to kiss her this morning; doing so until they fell asleep in each other's arms, Matt smiled the entire time due to the fact that he was happy to have his gorgeous wife home. Just her being here with him right now was everything he's ever wanted, because he loves her and has missed her like crazy. "We'll have a fun life with each other, I promise." Gabby agreed with her husband and smiled, as she loves the sound of that. "Can't wait. Goodnight babe." Matt agreed, smiling as he kissed her one last time. "Have a good nap, babe." Rolling over, Matt went to shut his lamp off.
After which, he laid back down in bed and proceeded to cuddle up to his wife from behind; placing his hand on her stomach, Matt just smiled as it felt really nice to have his family in his arms. This was everything he's ever wanted, and he has it thanks to Gabby. "Can you make me pancakes when you wake up?" Matt snickered, as he most certainly can. "I promise." He said, while kissing Gabby's back. "See you soon." Gabby nodded as she drifted off to sleep in her husband's arms for the first time in months, which was a great feeling.
