An odd sense of déjà-vu washed over Yuka when she awoke the next day. The softness of the sheets felt familiar, their scent, comforting. She stirred gently from her slumber, her eyes groggily adjusting themselves to the ambient light. It was hard to say what time of day it was since there weren't any windows for the light to shine through. She flipped herself onto her back and looked around to see where she was. To her utter shock, she remembered where she had spent the night prior. She could feel the warmth rise up to her face as she looked around for Overhaul. She found him standing with his back to her a few paces from the bed. He had just finished dressing himself and was adjusting his gloves. Once he heard her stir from her sleep, he froze, turning his head slightly to the side so he could see her over his shoulder, out of the corner of his eye.
"Is everything alright?" she asked in a tired voice, still shaking the last remnants of sleep from her system.
She heard him sigh as he stepped forward to retrieve his mask. He carefully placed it over his face, securing the straps behind his ears to keep it in place. Yuka rose to a sitting position in the bed, rubbing her eyes as she swung her legs over the side.
"I find myself in the uncomfortable position of having to ask something of you…" he answered cryptically.
Now he had her interest piqued. She immediately stood up from the bed and walked over to where her clothes had been gingerly folded into a neat pile on top of one of the dressers.
"What do you need?" she asked, figuring it would be best not to ask questions about what had transpired the night before.
He turned to face her as she started to get dressed. He then grabbed her old sword from the dresser in front of him and slowly brought it over to her.
"The men that attacked us last night," he spoke. "I want you to find them."
He held out the sword to her, letting her know what needed to be done. She froze for a moment, looking down at the blade she had once carried when she was young. She then looked up at him with a calm expression, then grabbed the scabbard from his hand as she turned to face him.
"Consider it done," she answered plainly as she threw the strap over her shoulder.
He let out a slightly amused laugh, which made her brow furrow in confusion.
"What's so funny?" she asked.
"Nothing," he answered her in an equally amused tone. "This all just feels sort of familiar."
She lowered her eyes bashfully, looking down at the floor. It was uncanny just how familiar this all felt to her. It was as if they had fallen back to how things were before but Yuka knew better. She knew things were different and she wasn't foolish enough to pretend like everything hadn't just suddenly become that much more complicated between the two of them.
"Kai…" she said as her eyes shot up towards him.
She could see him wince behind his mask. It was clear he didn't want to get into things. Then again, neither did she. They both stood awkwardly in front of each other, averting their gaze, not knowing what to say to one another. After a long and tense pause, it was Yuka who finally spoke once again.
"I'll take care of this," she assured him before pushing past him.
He didn't say a word and merely stepped away when she went for the door. She had grabbed her mask along the way and strapped it to her face before exiting the room.
To say that Yuka had wanted to go after the men who had almost killed her was a complete understatement. Tracking people down at Kai's behest was something she did regularly in the past. It's where she got her name from. The Angel of Death… Shinigami. Whenever her boyfriend needed someone taken care of permanently, she was the one he sent after them. She had been trained for this her entire life. Killing was something that came easily to her, especially when the person she was tracking had done something to piss her off. And boy, was she pissed right now…
She quickly swung by her room to gather up a few things. She grabbed her father's sword on the way out and fastened both of the swords to her back. She then started walking through the compound looking for Madarame. With his help, she stood a better chance at tracking down the men who had orchestrated last night's attack. Luckily for her, she didn't have to search for him long as she spotted him emerging from around a corner escorting a pair of familiar faces.
"Madarame," she called out to him. "I need your help with something."
She immediately froze when she noticed Toga and Twice walking a few paces behind him. They shot her a look of disapproval as they turned to face her.
"What can I do for you?" Mamoru asked calmly. He then watched as Toga took a few steps towards Yuka.
"Well well… Look who it is…" Himiko sneered.
"It's you!/Who are you again?" Twice interjected.
Yuka had been relieved to see them at first, but seeing as they didn't seem to share in her sentiment, she remained calm and quiet.
"Looks like you've been busy…" Toga continued to speak contemptuously. "Bet you and that boyfriend of yours have been real' busy with each other."
Her voice dripped with venom as Yuka narrowed her eyes at her.
"If you have something to say to me, Toga, just come out and say it," she said to her in a cutting tone.
Himiko squinted her eyes at her even more.
"I knew you would go back to them," she replied. "From the moment we first arrived, I knew you would go back to him. And now look at you." She motioned to the mask that she wore. "Shigaraki wanted us to stick together, but you've already become one of them…"
Her expression turned to one of sadness. Twice stepped in to comfort Himiko as he shot Yuka an angry glare.
"Yeah! What's the big idea?!" he asked. "I thought you cared about us, Mia! But here you are, dressed in that ridiculous costume doing that psychopath's bidding while we're left to rot!"
"Did Magne's death mean anything to you?" Himiko's voice came out in a low murmur at first. Then, her eyes shot up, revealing her teary expression as she grabbed her by the jacket, pulling her towards her. "ANSWER ME!"
Madarame instinctively reached for his weapon and trained it at Toga's head. Twice looked just about ready to retaliate when Yuka motioned for Mamoru to stop, grabbing Himiko's wrist as she lowered her eyes to look at her. She stared into her tearful eyes for a moment, and when Toga's rage faded as quickly as it had come on, she loosened her grip on her gently.
"I thought…" Himiko continued, her voice shaking. "I thought you were our friend, Mia…"
She felt her hands loosen around her collar as she lowered her head in sadness. Yuka went to place a comforting hand on her shoulder, but Twice quickly pulled her towards him in a protective manner.
"You guys…" Yuka said in a regretful tone. "It's not like that."
"Go back to your psychotic boyfriend," Twice spat.
"When the time comes," Toga continued in a low voice. "I hope you'll be there to see him bleed…"
And with that, the two of them shoved their way past her and started to make their way back to their quarters.
"Let's go…" Himiko ordered Madarame, completely ignoring the fact that he was still pointing his gun at her.
Twice gave Yuka another dirty look before turning away. Madarame shot a look towards her and she motioned for him to continue on their way. She knew that, once he had dealt with the two villains, he would come and find her.
Sure enough, once he had brought Toga and Twice back to their room, he quickly made his way back to Yuka, who was leaning against a wall looking demoralized.
"Miss Yuka," he called out to her. "I'm sorry for how things went with your comrades…"
She leaned away from the wall casually and started making her way down the corridor.
"Don't be," she said flatly.
Madarame seemed confused by her reaction at first but figured it would be best not to push her further on the subject.
"You said you needed my help with something," he reminded her just as he caught up to her.
She gave him an affirmative nod. "I need you to help me track down the men that attacked us last night."
"Yes, I heard about that…" he answered grimly. "I also heard that you had been injured during the explosion…"
She shot him a sideways glance.
"There's no need to worry about that…" she assured him in a severe tone.
"Very well…" he replied, unnerved by her cold gaze. "In any case, what do you need me to do?"
"We're going back to the scene of the crime," she explained. "I need you to use your quirk in order to find out where they're hiding…"
Madarame seemed unsure at first, but seeing just how serious Yuka was about finding them, he steeled his resolve and nodded.
"It would be my pleasure," he replied affirmatively.
While they were making their way down to the scene of the explosion, it was hard not to think about her exchange with Toga and Twice. She hadn't seen or heard from them since they had first arrived at the compound. She wanted to think that she hadn't been concerned for their well-being since they had joined up with the Shie Hassaikai, but deep down, she knew that was a lie. Try as she might, she couldn't get Himiko's hurt expression out of her mind. She had never seen her so upset before, not even when Magne had died. Yuka felt a sharp pang in her chest every time her tearful eyes popped into her mind. And Twice… She had gone to bat for him countless times in the past. It hurt to see him stare at her with so much resentment in his eyes. But how could he not? In such a short span of time, he had seen one of his closest friends seemingly turn her back on him and join up with the man who was responsible for the death of another close friend, but what choice did she have? As soon as it was revealed she was still alive, she knew full well that Kai wouldn't have stopped until she was back in Shie Hassaikai custody. Distancing herself from them was the only way she could ensure their safety and the only way she could ensure that she wouldn't get hurt. She had broken her own promise when she had let herself get close to the other members of the League of Villains and needed to keep them at arm's length now for their sake and hers. It was the only way none of them would get hurt because of her.
"We're here."
Mamoru's voice snapped her out of her thoughts as their vehicle approached the site of the explosion. Police and investigators were already crawling all over the crime scene and had blocked off the site with tape and barriers. Yuka parked the van she had borrowed from the hangar further down the road where she had seen the rigged vehicle come from the night before. Madarame eyed the crowded crime scene worryingly, then turned his attention over to Yuka as she stepped out of the van.
"How are we going to investigate the blast site with all of this police around?" he asked, joining her outside the vehicle.
Yuka started to walk over to where she had seen the men tumble out of the vehicle.
"When the truck veered into this street, a bunch of men came tumbling out the side doors," she explained to him as she stepped over a bunch of shrubbery. "I'm hoping someone left something behind…"
Madarame nodded and started searching the area for any signs of whoever had orchestrated last night's bombing. They needed to make it quick since the police were bound to make their way over to where they were, especially if they took notice of them near the scene of the crime. Luckily for them, they didn't need to search for very long as they stumbled across what seemed to be a muddy footprint.
"Here," Yuka pointed out the footprint to Madarame. "See if you can glean anything from this."
Mamoru gave her a nod before crouching down next to the muddy footprint. He then carefully took off his gloves and started outlining the impression left in the earth with his fingers. Yuka watched as his face strained with effort when he activated his quirk. It was only a short moment before his eyes snapped open as he suddenly reeled from the aftershock.
"Are you alright?" Yuka asked in a concerned tone, kneeling down next to him to check on him.
He gave her a few affirmative nods before slipping his gloves back on.
"I'm fine," he reassured her, though still slightly out of breath. "I think I have an idea who we're dealing with."
Once his gloves were back on, she helped him onto his feet and ensured that he was stable enough to walk before letting go of him.
"The incident might not have been as unrelated as we initially thought," he continued. "The gang that orchestrated the bombing… I recognize the insignias they wore on their outfits. They used to tag the walls in the underground network leading to the compound back when Overhaul first moved into the complex. From what I was told, he and the other Eight Bullets had to forcefully remove them from the tunnels in order to build the stronghold."
It made sense that Kai would want to move the Shie Hassaikai from where they had been previously based. The organization had suffered heavy losses at the time, made even heavier by the fact that their young leader had just lost the woman he was sworn to marry at the time. This brought back a slew of bad memories into mind, but Yuka did her best to push them aside and stay focused on the task at hand.
"Did you see where they came from?" she asked Madarame. "Or where they went?"
"I saw them running away from the explosion," he recalled, staring distantly into the air in front of him. "I saw them heading for the north side of town. Then… there was a large building. A warehouse perhaps? There was heavy equipment inside and…" He paused. "I recognized the old video store not too far from the building they ran into! I remember it was located near an old power plant. I'm fairly certain that's where they've been hiding all this time. They must have heard about our dealings with one of their rivals and figured they could take out two birds with one stone."
Yuka's eyes grew dark. "They'll soon learn what the price of failure is…"
She ordered him to take her to where he suspected the gangsters were holed up. Once they were at the old abandoned power plant, Yuka stepped out of the vehicle once more and circled around to retrieve her swords from the back compartment. Mamoru went to follow her as he gave his pistol a once over, checking to see if it was loaded.
"Stay in the van," Yuka ordered him in an authoritative tone. "I'll deal with this myself."
Her demeanor had grown even darker and more menacing than before. She removed her jacket and proceeded to strap both of her katanas to her back. She then made sure her mask was properly secured to her face before turning towards the building.
"Are you quite sure?" Madarame asked, though he suspected he already knew what her answer would be.
Yuka nodded in response, then started making her way towards the side of the building with the fire escape.
"I'll be back soon," she stated plainly. "Whatever you do, do not follow me inside…"
And on that grim note, she started scaling the fire escape in order to reach the rooftop. Using her quirk, she made herself lighter by filling her lungs up with helium. It wasn't something she could sustain for long periods of time and it only made her slightly less heavy, but it helped her scale the fire escape a lot quicker. Once she was on the rooftop, she quickly found what she had set out to find and made her way over to it. It was the air exchange unit that circulated the air inside the complex. Taking a deep breath, she used her quirk once again to create a thick fog that would hide her presence once she was inside. The smoke would also make it a lot harder for whoever was inside to breathe without protection. Once she had filled the device with enough gas, she made her way over to the door leading into the building. Using the butt of her sword, she smashed the lock and kicked the door open, forcing her way inside.
Smoke started filtering out of the building as soon as the door swung open. Yuka made her way down the stairwell, keeping her eyes and ears peeled for any signs of danger. After traveling a few floors down, she started to hear coughing in the distance. She then paused for a few seconds and started to breathe more smoke into the air, closing her eyes as she attuned herself to the movements of the gas billowing from her mask. During her many days of solitary confinement, Yuka had taken the opportunity to develop a new technique that allowed her to attune herself to the movements of the gasses she produced in order to detect any sort of movement inside her clouds of miasma. So far, she had only been successful in reading movements within a small radius around her, but now she was attempting to read within a larger area in order to locate her targets inside the building.
It only took her a few minutes to locate her first set of targets. She could hear a couple of thugs coughing a few rooms ahead when a handful of them started spilling out into the hallway. What greeted them outside was something they had not anticipated. Almost immediately, they were cut down before they could do anything to defend themselves. One of their colleagues saw a shadow moving through the smoke as Yuka entered the room, blade in each hand. The thugs started pulling out their weapons as she breathed another thick layer of smoke into the room. She couldn't see the thugs anymore but she could feel their presence through the smoke and knew exactly where to strike. One by one, they fell to her blades with almost no effort on her part. Blood splattered the floor and ceiling whenever her blades met flesh through the dense cloud. The smoke cleared a bit once she had successfully taken out all of her opponents and she looked around to see the carnage she had wrought. This only served to fuel her rage even more as she continued on her way, deeper into the warehouse.
As she made her way towards the central part of the building, she heard someone pull on the fire alarm, activating the sprinklers and dissipating her smokescreen. No matter, the smoke was mainly to make things easier for herself. Now, things were going to get interesting. A few thugs started running towards her location, weapons in hand, but Yuka hid herself in the shadows, anticipating their arrival. Once they had fallen into her trap, she sprung out of her hiding place and managed to cut down two of the thugs that had just arrived. The others started to unload their weapons onto her, but Yuka was cunning. She used the ones she had just killed as meat shields and threw their corpses at their comrades, confusing them just long enough for her to close the distance and strike them down. Her blades cut through them like butter, splattering blood everywhere and mixing with the water that was accumulating thanks to the sprinklers. Yuka tried not to get too distracted by her clothes clinging uncomfortably to her body as she pressed forward. Once she had reached the central chamber, she could hear a bunch of panicked voices trying to make sense of the situation.
"What the hell is going on?!" One man shouted. "Where are the others?"
"They're gone, man!" One of his colleagues yelled. "They were taken out before we could activate the sprinklers!"
"Seriously?! How can a single woman take out a bunch of our guys?!"
"She ain't just some girl…" a more mature voice spoke. "She's one of them Shie Hassaikai members…"
Yuka watched from the side as the gangsters strategized in the middle of the room where they had fortified their position. Getting to them would be tough for her but she wasn't discouraged. She had faced deadlier foes before and, for now, she had the element of surprise on her side.
"Since when do the Yakuza have women working for them?" One of the men asked.
"The Shie Hassaikai ain't exactly Yakuza," the mature voice spoke again. "They specialize in acquiring individuals with unique and powerful quirks. From what we saw, she's got quite the impressive quirk…"
He then heard a voice suddenly speak right next to them.
"I'm flattered… but I'm afraid that won't save you."
Yuka had seemingly come out of nowhere and was suddenly standing right next to their position. In their panic, a few of them started shooting at her while she quickly grabbed one of their comrades and used him to soak up the bullets. She then used the same tactic as before and shoved their dead comrades towards them before taking out a few more with her blades. She had an almost cat-like way of moving through their ranks, using both her swords and her martial arts to take down her enemies with ease. She used quick, concentrated bursts of toxic gas to incapacitate and disorient her opponents before striking with her twin katanas. Soon enough, only the leader remained, but he was nowhere to be found. Luckily for her, she had slashed his leg during the altercation and noticed a trail of blood leading out of the main room.
She quickly found him crawling on his stomach towards the exit, and as she approached, the man clearly heard her coming up behind him. He started to whimper and sob as he tried to make it to the front door. Unfortunately for him, Yuka would not give him the chance to escape as she stabbed one of her swords through his leg, pinning him to the floor as he shrieked in pain. She then flipped him over onto his back and did the same with the other leg before climbing on top of him, removing her mask. She wanted him to see who exactly had brought down his organization before delivering the final blow.
"P-Please!" he begged, his pathetic voice coming out in sobs.
She slammed her hand against his mouth, gripping his head as she pulled his face up to meet hers.
"Shut your mouth, you pathetic wretch!" she barked, her tone razor-sharp. "You dare ask for mercy when it was your own stupidity that brought this upon yourself?!"
Smoke started to filter through her nostrils, making the air around them harder to breathe.
"How such a lowly life form managed to strike a blow against the Shie Hassaikai is beyond my comprehension…" she continued to speak. "But I'm here to ensure that such an insult does not go unpunished."
The darkness in her eyes quickly grew to an eerie red glow as a low, sarcastic chuckle erupted from her throat.
"I should be thanking you, really…" she said to him, his face still quivering in her grasp. "Were it not for you and your associates, I may never have had the chance to hunt you down myself and rid the world of your disgusting filth." Her words were punctuated by an even more intense glow. "Now… die."
With one hand, she pried his mouth open and breathed directly into his open mouth, filling his lungs with as much toxic gas as she could. As the gas painfully burned away at his flesh and poisoned his body, he slowly and painfully choked to death in her grasp. Once he had ceased moving, she let his body drop to the floor and stood up from where he now lay. Her eyes then returned to their natural dark color as she made her way toward the front door, breathing steadily as she proceeded to saturate her lungs with clean oxygen.
She was just about to step out of the building when she was suddenly assaulted by a violent fit of coughing. With all the adrenaline that had been coursing through her, she had failed to realize just how taxed her lungs were from the extensive use of her quirk. The fact that she had also been exposed to her own toxic gas when she had executed the gang leader only made matters worse as she proceeded to cough up a small pool of blood into her gloved hand. The coughing wracked her chest so violently that she fell against the door, pushing it open as she tumbled out of the building. The air outside provided only minor relief as she struggled to get the coughing under control. She continued to cough up blood for a moment until she finally pulled out a capsule from her pocket and pressed her mask to her face. She then administered the medication through the vent in her mask and breathed long, steady breaths in order to take in as much healing gas as she could. Once she had successfully calmed down, she immediately took off towards where she had left Mamoru and the van and quickly slid inside the passenger seat after throwing her swords in the back of the vehicle, behind her.
Mamoru gave her a startled look. "What happened to you?!" he shouted.
Yuka was trying really hard not to start coughing again as her lungs were still burning from having used her quirk so much.
"Just drive…" she ordered him quietly, her voice coming out in a raspy tone.
Madarame gave her a concerned look as he reluctantly turned the key in the ignition and started up the van.
There was an unpleasant knot in the pit of Yuka's stomach that she couldn't shake during the whole ride back to the compound. It felt like a shadow was looming over her. She kept looking down at her bloodied hands, both stained with the blood of her enemies and her own. It dawned on her just how easily she had slipped back into her old life. A life of pain, of killing… of death. Death that she delivered in Overhaul's name. She could scarcely believe just how eager she had been to enact vengeance on the people who attacked them the night before, just how willing she had been to enact Overhaul's will. She kept thinking it was her desire for vengeance that had pushed her to hunt down these men, but the truth was that she had done it all for him… and it scared her. Things between them had progressed so unbelievably fast that she could barely make sense of it all. From the start, she had so desperately wanted things to go back to how they were before she left, but now that she had been thrust into her old role, she couldn't help but be overwhelmed with uncertainty.
She tried to keep calm as they approached the hangar, both to keep Madarame from asking questions and also to avoid another fit of coughs. Once they were settled into the garage, Yuka immediately left the vehicle and started marching towards the door leading into the compound. She wanted to get things over with and deliver her report to Overhaul. The feeling in the pit of her stomach kept gnawing at her and the only thing she wanted now was to retire to a hot, steamy shower and wash herself of the day's events.
"Miss Yuka!" Madarame called out to her.
She instinctively froze, despite wanting to get away from him as soon as possible in order to avoid him needlessly questioning her. He walked up to her calmly as she froze near the doorway and quietly handed over her swords and her jacket.
"You forgot this," he said to her in a serene voice.
She looked at him for a moment, unsure of whether or not she should say anything. She awkwardly reached for her belongings and remained silent for a few moments. She then looked up at him, straightening her posture before giving him a deep bow.
"Thank you, Madarame," she said to him in a respectful tone. "I appreciate you helping me on this matter."
He gave her a polite bow in response. "I'm glad I was able to help."
Yuka gave him one last nod before turning away and started marching towards Overhaul's office. The guards patrolling the hallways all stared in shock as she passed by, completely soaked from head to toe as her once-white shirt was completely stained with blood. Her hair was also a mess, clinging uncomfortably to the sides of her head, but Yuka didn't care about all that. She was determined to give her report now and nothing was going to stop her.
"Is Overhaul in there?" she asked the guards patrolling near the office.
"He's in a meeting right now," one of the guards answered.
"Take me to him." This wasn't a request…
The two men looked at each other for a moment, then quickly made their way toward the conference room where Overhaul was conducting his meeting. As soon as they opened the door, Yuka slipped inside without being invited in. All Eight Bullets had been called for the meeting and they all stared in horror at the state she was in. They were even more horrified when they saw her approaching their leader directly, having not even glanced over at them while she marched over to where he was sitting. Overhaul, on the other hand, merely watched as she made her way around the table, knelt next to where he was sitting, and bowed her head before speaking.
"It's done," she proclaimed solemnly, her breaths a little shaky from having power-walked all over the compound.
There was silence for a moment as everyone stared at each other, not knowing how to react. They were all waiting to see Overhaul's reaction. She had dared to interrupt their meeting and had presented herself in such a disgusting state. Surely he would punish her for such blatant defiance! Yuka hadn't been worried about his reaction coming into the conference room, but now that silence hung in the air for what seemed like an eternity, she started to grow anxious. Had she gone too far? Was he going to kill her in front of his men? She tried to keep calm as tensions continued mounting in the room. Then, he finally spoke.
"Leave."
She felt her heart sick into her chest at his words, but just as she was about to get up from her kneeling position, she heard the sound of chairs sliding against the floor behind her. The Eight Bullets of the Hassaikai then made their way towards the exit and Yuka couldn't decide if she was relieved or even more concerned now that they were all gone.
She was startled when she felt a hand tuck its way underneath her chin, lifting her face. She reluctantly looked up to see Overhaul standing over her, an indecipherable expression hidden away behind his mask. His yellow eyes softened after a moment as he ran his thumb delicately along the edge of her mask.
"Come now. Let's get you cleaned up."
His voice was a lot more gentle this time, and whatever apprehension Yuka had felt previously was completely washed away. She gave him a weak nod as she rose to her feet. She could see that he was uncomfortable standing close to her while she was covered in filth, so she carefully stepped away from him. She then followed him to his personal quarters, where she had spent the previous night recovering from her injury. It was only now that she felt guilty for not cleaning herself before meeting with Overhaul and she hesitated near the door for a moment, debating whether or not she should really be stepping foot inside his living quarters while she was covered in blood.
"I really shouldn't-"
She barely had time to finish her sentence before Kai reached out and grabbed her jacket and her swords from her. He then placed them in a bin near the entrance, then turned his head to look at her over his shoulder.
"Come inside."
He wasn't making a request…
She obeyed him and quickly stepped into the room. He then closed the door behind her, before motioning towards the bin where he had placed her jacket and her swords. She instantly understood what he was inferring and started to carefully remove her soiled clothes. She then placed everything inside the bin but could see that she was still very filthy with blood and dirt from the warehouse.
"Y-You don't need to force yourself," she said anxiously. "I-I can clean up on my own."
His eyes stared at her blankly over the edge of his mask. He then stuck his hand out expectantly, looking down at the mask she was still wearing. Despite being stripped of her clothes, Yuka had instinctively kept her mask on. She could still feel the stinging in her lungs from the overuse of her quirk and was worried she would start coughing again if she removed her mask. But seeing as Overhaul was waiting for her to remove it, she had no choice. Carefully, she removed the straps from her head and placed it in his hand. Immediately, she could feel her throat start to itch uncontrollably as the urge to cough suddenly assaulted her. She tried her best to keep the coughs at bay but it was no use. After a few strained seconds of pure agony, she let a few muffled coughs slip out before losing control of herself completely.
Kai's previously blank expression turned to one of concern once he realized what was going on. She turned away from him as she desperately tried to keep herself from coughing but it was no use. She felt ashamed that Kai would see her in such a state, especially since she knew how much he hated germs. She pressed her hands to her mouth, trying to calm herself down, but her mounting anxiety made things infinitely worse. She had never felt so vulnerable in her entire life and was now starting to hyperventilate out of sheer panic and shame for what was currently unfolding.
"I-I'm-" she coughed painfully. "I-I'm… s…orry!"
She must have looked so pathetic, huddled up in a corner, naked and coughing like an absolute maniac. She couldn't stop the tears that were running down her face, both from the excessive coughing and from the unbearable shame that she felt. She looked down to see blood staining her hands once again, except this time, she didn't have any gloves to protect herself from the filth. Disgusting, that's what she was. She was about to fall to her knees when suddenly, she felt Overhaul's arms wrap around her, catching her. He then set her down gently on the ground, grabbing her wrists as he looked down and realized she was coughing up blood.
"What happened?!" he asked urgently, cupping her head with both his hands to examine her.
Yuka choked out a sob in between her coughs. "M-my… q… uirk…"
Seeing his face contort in disgust every time she coughed in his face made her want to hide her face in her hands but Kai was gripping her tightly. He hissed angrily as he pulled off one of his gloves and pressed his hand against her chest. He then closed his eyes as he got to work healing her with his quirk. Immediately, she felt an immense pain overtake her lungs as the air was completely knocked out of her. She choked on nothing for a moment, then breathed in a long, harsh exhale as the burning suddenly stopped and she was able to breathe again. She leaned her head back, taking in huge gulps of air before relief slowly turned to shame and tears started to stream down her face once more. She then leaned forward to hide her face in Kai's shoulder while she sobbed uncontrollably. Kai let out a relieved sigh as he took her into his arms, despite the state of filth she was currently in.
"You shouldn't be touching me…" she sobbed.
"You shouldn't be worrying about that," he answered calmly. "Come. Let's wipe this grime off of you…"
She let herself be picked up from the floor as Kai ushered her into the bathroom. He then turned on the shower and grabbed some towels while the water grew hot. He then settled Yuka on the bench that stretched across the back wall of the shower stall and stepped back out to disrobe himself. Once he had gotten rid of his clothes, he came back into the stall and held both his hands out to her, inviting her to stand up. She complied weakly and grabbed hold of his hands, letting him drag her over to the stream of water, where he then proceeded to start washing her body.
His hands worked diligently to clean off all of the blood and grime she had accumulated from the mission he had given her. A part of him felt disgusted at the idea that she had trailed in so much filth from the outside world, but a much larger part of him couldn't help but feel satisfied by how diligent she had been in carrying out his assignment. He hadn't expected her to so readily bend to his will and yet she had taken to it even more so than before, with barely any effort on his part. They had merely spent a single night together and she was already eating directly from his hands. This made him swell with pride as he pondered just how far she would be willing to go for him.
As apathy quickly settled following her anxious meltdown, she found herself leaning back against the wall as she let Overhaul clean her. She stared blankly at the ceiling as his hands glided over her damp skin, diligently at first, but growing more and more hungry as the grime was slowly washed away from her body. She felt a slight tingle surge through her body as he pressed his lips to her neck, delicately kissing her while pulling himself closer to her. Even though she could feel him growing more ravenous by the moment, she still couldn't bring herself to reciprocate his affections. The numbness she felt had completely overpowered her and she could only stand there and watch as his appetite for her grew more and more.
An overwhelming sense of shame still plagued her even though her body had been cleansed of the outside world's filth. She felt disgusted with herself and couldn't help but feel conflicted by the choices she had made. It felt as if some part of her was trying to tell her something but she was too scared to face it. She didn't want to believe that what she was feeling was regret settling in. How could she? After wanting things to go back the way they were all this time, it just couldn't be it. What she was feeling now had to be something else, but she just couldn't bring herself to figure out what. The only thing she wanted now was to drown out the negative feelings that plagued her mind and wipe it clean of all uncertainty, and luckily for her, Kai was all too eager to oblige her on that front.
He could sense her unease, the feeling that she was fighting a battle with herself. But he couldn't have her slip away from him so easily, not after going to such extensive lengths to bring her back and claim her all for himself. She had slipped through the cracks once before and he wasn't about to let it happen again. Greedily, he palmed both of her breasts as he continued to nip at her tender neck. The sensation snapped her back to reality as she groaned lazily. But that wasn't good enough for him. He wanted to hear her moan and cry out his name, so he pressed his hands harder into her breasts, massaging them before giving her nipples a slight pinch. This got her to moan all right. As the fog slowly lifted from her troubled mind, she looked down to see him trailing kisses down her collarbone and onto her chest. His hot breath lingered over one of her nipples before capturing it in his mouth, swirling his tongue over the pert mound. Yuka leaned back as pleasure surged through her body, her eyes falling shut to better savor the moment. Threading her fingers through his dark locks, she rewarded his efforts by massaging his scalp, encouraging him to continue. To her surprise, she felt him pull away from her breasts, but before she had time to protest, she felt his lips trailing their way down her abdomen, towards her sweet spot in between her thighs.
It was no secret Kai's preferred way of having sex was in the shower. Any messes he made were instantly cleaned. Dirty water would run down the drain and his sins along with it. He could be as disgusting as he wanted and have her scrub him afterward, making him just as clean as he was before his vile desires got the better of him. This made him a lot bolder, but never so bold as to go down on her. In fact, Yuka couldn't recall a time when he had ever pleasured her with his mouth, so seeing him kneeling in front of her was something completely new to the two of them. She could feel herself blushing as he spread her legs apart, and just as she was about to stop him to make sure he was alright doing this, she felt his mouth close over her swollen clitoris, making her gasp out in surprised pleasure.
He had thought about pleasuring her with his mouth for a long while now, and his initial reaction had been total and utter disgust, but it didn't stop him from eyeing her and imagining what she would sound like if he were to indulge himself. The sound that escaped her lips when his mouth reached her nether regions made his initial apprehension seem completely misplaced. She had been such a good soldier for him, it was only natural he should reward her for it. Slowly, almost painstakingly so, he drew circles around her clit using his tongue, lapping up her juices as he continued to listen to her cries and moans coming from above him. Every sound that came from her parted lips only served to stoke the fire raging inside his stomach as he continued stroking her with his tongue. The sensation of her rubbing against his tongue was strange at first, but her moans were so sweet they distracted him from the discomfort. He wanted to hear what she would sound like if she came to his tongue rubbing against her folds, so he pressed on and pressed harder against her clit, closing his mouth over it before sucking on it gently. This sent electricity rushing through her body as she bucked her hips forward, pressing into him as her fingers curled tightly around his hair. Seeing as this seemed to spur her on even more, he gave her swollen bud another suck before flicking it with the tip of his tongue.
"Ahh fff…. fuuuck…!" Yuka moaned, grinding her hips against his face to create more friction.
Kai adjusted himself to her thrusts, timing himself each time she drove her hips into his open mouth. Seeing her unravel more and more as his mouth brought her closer and closer to the finish drove him wild with lust. Whatever disgust he felt before had now been completely replaced with lust. He could feel it in the way she drove her hips harder into him, how her thrusts were becoming more and more erratic, how her moans came out in a raspy, erratic mess: she was so close to coming undone. He could feel it in the way her insides were starting to twitch wildly each time he ran his tongue over her clit, each flick sending lightning through her veins. He didn't care about the mess she was making of him. He just wanted to see her cum, wanted to feel what it was like to have her cum all over his face. It was almost too much for him to bear. His cock had grown rock hard just from looking at her fucked-out expression from where he stood.
"Cum for me…" he growled into her twitching cunt. "Cum for me, Angel…"
Her eyes shot open when she heard him use her old pet name, the shock completely sending her over the edge as her body came plummeting down from its insane high. Wave after wave of ecstasy surged through her as her voice came out in a loud, drawn-out moan. Kai savored as he felt her twitching against his mouth, his tongue lapping up all of the juices that came pouring out of her. A part of him knew he should be utterly disgusted by this but he couldn't help it. Seeing her so blissfully satisfied by him drove him absolutely wild with desire.
Yuka's mind went blank once again, drowning herself in the afterglow of her climax. She didn't want to feel anything else, only the pleasure Kai was all too eager to give. He revelled in the feeling of being in control, especially now that he had made her into the perfect outlet for maintaining that sense of control. She had become so obedient, a perfect footsoldier that would do anything for him. When his eyes asked for her compliance, she didn't hesitate to agree as he lifted her legs from the tiled floor and pushed her against the wall behind her. She heard him click his tongue, his eyes narrowing as they met hers. His gold irises bore into her intensely, making her body shake and ache for him even more. She felt a flush of heat creeping up her cheeks as she struggled to maintain his gaze. Her eyes shot wide open when she felt him grow closer to her, the tip of his erect manhood pressing against her sensitive cunt. She tried to look away as the color on her cheeks grew even more, but Kai quickly pulled her back towards him, having moved his hand from her thigh to her lower jaw. He snapped her face back into place, forcing her to look at him while he entered her slowly. A soft gasp escaped her lips as he pushed into her, his own eyes fluttering for a moment. He continued to push his hips forward until he was buried in her completely, his hand leaving her jawline to grasp her thigh once again. Yuka head lolled backwards while Kai's face fell forward, nesting itself in her neck. They both took a few breaths as they savoured each other's bodies, hot water trickling down from the showerhead above. Yuka was only just getting use to the sense of tranquility when she suddenly felt Kai's hips snap backwards, then roughly thrust forward. This knocked the air out of her lungs for a few short seconds as her brain processed what was going on. Kai continued to bury his head in the crook of her neck, nipping at the sensitive skin there and trailing kisses down her collarbone. Yuka's eyes rolled upward, his cock delving ever deeper each time he thrusted into her.
"Yukaa~"
Her name came pouring out of his lips in a low growl, barely hiding the desperation in his voice. He needed more of her. His hands drove her legs back towards the wall, folding her further back into a sort of mating press. She felt his fingers digging into the soft skin of her thighs as if his life depended on it, leaving her with bruises that would undoubtedly appear the morning after. Her eyes shot wide when she felt him reach into her once more, the tip of his cock kissing her cervix as her body jerked in response.
"Nnngh— oh god…" she gasped, her arms wrapping around his shoulders for support.
His eyes trailed up from her chest, sinking into her half-lided orbs.
"Say my name…" he breathed.
Her eyelids fluttered open as she feverishly met his gaze.
"Kai~"
Terror flashed across her eyes for a moment as his hand suddenly gripped her jaw, pulling her closer to him.
"Say. my. name…" he repeated, slower this time, his eyes growing darker with each word.
It's at that point she understood what he meant.
"Overhaul…"
His features softened at the same time as his grip. He seemed satisfied. His hand travelled back to her thigh as he started to plow into her once more.
"Again." he commanded.
"Overhaul~" she whined, her head falling back against the wall.
She felt his teeth sink into her skin as he growled into her shoulder.
"Louder!" His hips slammed back deeply, making her body jerk again as she moaned.
"Ohh Overhaul!"
She could feel her body on the brink of collapsing, her poor battered pussy squeezing him more tightly. Another deep growl erupted from his chest as he continued to pound her into the wall.
"Fuck—so... t-tight. So fucking tight." he moaned, feeling himself growing closer to the edge as well.
He lifted his head from her neck once again, his eyes clouded over with lust. He felt the sting of her nails raking his back as she struggled to hold on. Seeing her so needy, so dick-drunk from his cock, was almost too much to bear.
"A-Angel…!" he choked, barely holding on himself. "I—fuck! I-I need you… A-Angel!"
His hands gripped her even tighter as he drove his hips harder and faster. His breaths became hoarse and erratic as he felt himself growing closer and closer to ecstacy.
"Cum with me, Angel…" he managed to growl. "Cum with me!"
His incessant thrusts eventually worked both of them to the finish. A loud scream came ripping out of Yuka's throat as she reached her climax, her walls spasming out of control around Kai's dick as she milked him for all he was worth. This sent him spiralling out of control, pushing him over the edge as he came crashing down, shooting his hot load deep within her. Their bodies continued to shake for a few long minutes as they basked in each other's orgasms. Their eyes fluttered open and met with each other, followed soon after by their lips crashing into each other. Kai released his hands from her thighs, allowing her to wrap them around his waist while they shared in a fiery kiss. Eventually, Yuka lowered herself to the ground, her legs so wobbly from being pressed into the wall that she almost fell over. Luckily, she was caught just in time by Kai swooping his arms under her and lifting her up bridle style in his arms.
"You don't have to carry me…" Yuka protested tiredly, barely able to lift her head from his shoulder.
"Please, you can barely walk…" Kai responded in an exasperated tone.
Yuka wanted to protest more but her body wouldn't cooperate. She was completely spent. After shutting off the shower with his shoulder, Kai carried her out of the stall into the bathroom where he sat her on the edge of the counter. He left her side for a short moment, leaving her quivering from the cold before coming back with a warm towel. She lifted her eyes to see him wrapping the warm cloth around her shoulders, noticing he had gotten one for himself before hand. He had wrapped it around his waist. He then proceeded to dry her off as best as he could, squeezing the water from her long black hair with the towel before lifting her up in his arms once more.
"Thank you…" Yuka murmured, setting her head down against his shoulder.
He didn't respond, instead placing her down on the bed in the room next door and wrapping her in the silk bedsheets. She looked up to see him looking down at the glow of his phone placed atop the bedside table. She glanced over to see who had sent him a message, but he quickly lifted his phone from the endtable to look at his text messages, sighing exasperatingly once he had finished reading.
"What's wrong?" Yuka inquired softly, her brow furrowing in a concerned expression as she sat up in the bed.
"It's… Eri." He hesitated to speak. "I have to go to her."
Yuka's brow arched in surprise. With everything that had happened in the last few days, she had almost completely forgotten about her. Her eyes drifted down towards the bed as her expression was replaced with one of disappointment. Kai pretended not to notice and quickly started to dress himself, slipping a fresh pair of gloves on once he was done.
"Is she really your daughter?" she suddenly blurted out.
He froze in the middle of putting his mask on. She looked up at him with a serious look in her eyes. He ignored her for a moment, securing the straps of his mask behind his ears before finally letting out a long-winded sigh.
"I wanted to tell you…" he replied somberly.
Tension hung in the air like a thick fog. Yuka could scarcely believe what she was hearing. Kai had never given her the impression that he ever wanted to have kids. It was something they had in common. Both of them had agree that their lifestyle wasn't suited for family life, despite them having both grown up in the Shie Hassaikai. To say she was surprised by this sudden revelation was a complete understatement. She felt gutted, betrayed. It wasn't something she had ever anticipated from him.
"Is her mother still in the picture?"
Kai shook his head. "She's gone," he answered simply.
The fact that he still hadn't glanced her way since she posed the question made her stomach churn uneasily. She narrowed her eyes at him for a moment, but couldn't stand to look at him just now. She squeezed her eyes shut as she looked away, trying to hide her pained expression from him.
"You should have told me…" she stated plainly, her voice growing darker.
Clutching the sheets against her chest, her hands clenched into fists, fueled by anger she felt towards him, but also towards herself. She hated how she felt at the moment, knowing full well it wasn't her place to judge him for something he had done while she had fled from him. She could have had this life with him, but instead, she had thrown it all away and left Kai to find comfort in the arms of another while she was gone…
She felt the mattress shift as he settled on the edge of the bed beside her. Her eyes met him for a moment, before turning away. She didn't want him to see her in the state she was in currently. He, unfortunately, had other plans and forced her to meet his gaze by placing a hand on her cheek.
"I know. I'm sorry," he said to her in a sincere tone.
Though his expression was hard to read while it was partially obscured by his mask, it reminded her of the one he had when he was talking to the two young heroes in the alleyway.
"We can talk about it once I'm done with her," he added. "For now, try and get some rest."
He traced his thumb gently along her cheekbone, his gaze softening as he pleaded with her. Yuka was almost amazed by how sweet he was with her, so much so that it softened her own resolve against him, though not completely. She nodded in response, leaning into his touch for a short moment before his hand slipped away from her. As he moved toward the door, his expression shifted, losing its warmth as he reached for the handle.
"You did well today," he declared suddenly, his hand hovering over the doorknob. "I'm grateful."
He then slipped out of the room without as much as a glance in her direction, leaving her with conflicting emotions. While part of her felt flattered by the recognition, another part of her felt uneasy. Something felt off, though she couldn't quite pinpoint what it was. Perhaps it was simply exhaustion clouding her thoughts. A bit of sleep wouldn't hurt, she thought to herself. Despite the lingering questions that plagued her mind, she felt herself drawn into a deep, fathomless sleep. The familiar scent of Kai's bedsheets cradled her, lulling her into a sense of comfort as her breath steadied and her eyes softly fell shut.
