Chapter 3

The long white limo pulled into the airfield at dusk. The business was closed for the day and workers had gone home. Dom, String and Caitlin stood in the mouth of the hangar with SG-1 as the day was winding down.

Jack spied the car. "Who is that?"

"Archangel." String told him.

The limo parked before the hangar. The door opened and a blond haired man with a mustache, dressed in a white suite wearing eyeglasses with one darkened lens emerged. From the other side of the limo emerged a tall woman, dressed all in white with dark curly hair and a light brown complexion. Michael Coldsmith-Briggs the Third and his companion, Marella had arrived.

Daniel found Marella very attractive as she reminded him of his late wife in appearance. He also knew she was CIA and to mind himself around her to not tip information.

"Hawke." Michael greeted. He noted the four new faces. He looked to String for an explanation.

"Michael." he replied.

"I see you have guest." he stated. He could not give String the next mission with strangers standing about.

String went with the cover. "Meet Jack, Sam, Daniel and T." he stated keeping it simple.

Dom went with the cover story. "Jack here is an old friend of mine from the war. Sam is Cait's cousin. Daniel is String's 3rd cousin twice removed. I just hired T to work here."

The cover sounded absolutely ridiculous to Archangel. He knew Dom was spinning a tale but did not know why. He decided to drill a bit for information. He looked to Jack. "You knew Dom during the war?"

He nodded. "Yup."

"Oh! What was your unit?" he wondered.

"He was in my unit." Dom huffed.

Archangel then looked at String unbelieving. "Cait's cousin and you have a 3rd cousin, twice removed?"

He shrugged but did not reply.

He looked upon Teal'c who merely stared at him with a poker face fit for a gambler.

Archangel stated. "I have a new assignment for you, String. Is there a place we can speak alone?"

Jack soured. "I want to hear the Airwolf assignment."

Archangel looked at Jack. "You know about Airwolf?"

String came up with a cover. "We're training Jack, Sam and T to fly her. Kind of a backup for me, Dom and Cait."

Marella stated, "If you are training a backup crew, you need to clear that with the FIRM, String. I need to run background checks on them."

String stated. "You don't need to run checks on them."

Archangel asked. "And your 3rd cousin. What does he do?"

"He's speaks twenty-eight languages and is an archeologist." he told him.

Marella looked at Daniel rather surprised. "Impressive. The FIRM could use such an interpreter."

Daniel looked to String wondering what excuse he would come up with.

"You can't have him. He's…" he paused for a moment and then smirked. "He's one of those Ancient Alien theorist. He's…writing a book on the Pyramids…" he looked to Daniel for assistance.

Daniel stated. "I believe the pyramids are landing pads for space ships. I've been humiliated and disowned by academia. I'm here researching the Native American drawings in the caves. I really don't have time to work as an interpreter."

Marella admitted. "I've always been fascinated by those drawings. I would love to see your book and research." Unbeknownst to Daniel, Marella found him fascinating.

"Um…" he looked at String for making Daniel seem a bit crazy seemed to have backfired.

String asked. "What's the mission, Michael?"

"There is a cult that has popped up on our radar. We would like you to investigate it." he told him.

He sighed. "A cult, Michael." He didn't want to go investigate some silly cult. He had a Star Gate to tend too.

"The leader goes by Ra." he told him. "His followers believe him to be an actual god from Ancient Egypt. The cult follows Ancient Egyptian deities and believe those deities to be real."

Jack miffed, "Not Ra again."

"Excuse me?" Archangel asked.

"Nothing." Jack quipped.

"Hmm…" Archangel pondered. "Perhaps, bringing in a backup crew is a good idea after all, String. I will also have you consult with a few experts in Egyptian mythology. Dr Paul Langford and his daughter Catherine. There is also a Air Force Colonel who will be assisting us. His name is George Hammond."

String asked, "What do we need the Air Force for?" He then glanced at SG-1 who all seemed rather surprised. He knew they must have recognized the name.

"Colonel Hammond will arrive tomorrow." he told him. "In 1928, Professor Langford made a discovery in an Egyptian dig. Colonel Hammond and Professor Langford will give you a full debriefing on that ring they found tomorrow." he stated.

"Oh boy." Jack sighed.

"Excuse me?" Archangel asked again.

"Nothing." Jack replied.

Next Day

Archangel and Marella sat in the back of the limo with their guests: Professor Paul Langford, Catherine Langford and a certain Colonel George Hammond. Colonel Hammond's red hair was cut short and receding a bit on top of his head. He wore blue dress and had his visor cap neatly tucked under his arm. He held a file in his hands. Professor Langford wore tan slacks and a blue jacket. His hair was gray and he sported a mustache. His daughter wore a blue skirt and matching jacket with a white blouse. Her hair slightly gray but her natural brown was still present.

Colonel Hammond spoke. "In 1969, I was a second lieutenant fresh out of the Academy. I was stationed at a warehouse that housed the ring you found, Professor. That ring activated and three men and one woman came through in full military gear with weapons. I found a note, in my hand writing, written to myself with instructions to help them escape. Here are the photos and files that the Air Force had on those four subjects." He handed the file to Marella for safe keeping. "You will find the Colonel's dog tag and name is currently reregistered to a young Captain in the Air Force."

Marella opened the file and gasped at the photos. "Colonel Jonathon O'Neill, U.S. Air Force. Dog tag number…" she tailed off. She looked at Archangel "We just saw him last night."

He looked at the photo. "This the Colonel that came through the ring in 1969?"

"That's him." George nodded. "Real pain in the rear too."

He found the next photo. "Captain Samantha Carter. Her hair is different. We saw her at the hangar last night as well." He looked at the next file. "Dr. Daniel Jackson. Contract for U.S. Air Force." He then looked at the last file. "Says his name is Teal'c Murray. Contractor for U.S. Air Force."

George stated. "All of them wore patches on the uniform. A U.S. flag patch. Rank insignia for the Colonel and the Captain. And a patch with the letters: S. G. and a number one. SG-1. I should add that a friend of mine, Colonel Jacob Carter has a daughter named Samantha. She's fourteen and she looks just like that Captain."

"Is it possible the ring activated again?" Marella asked.

George assured. "It has not. It's still in storage."

Paul was handed the file next as he went through, Catherine looked over the photos as well. "So, these four came through ring in 1969?"

"Correct." George told her.

Paul told him. "In 1945, I sent a man through it. He never came back. Now, I wonder if maybe he survived it."

"Who did you send, Dad?" she asked.

He confessed regrettably. "It was Earnest, honey."

"You mean he didn't die in an lab accident?" she asked.

He shook his head. "No…he didn't. He could still be alive."

"Why didn't you tell me?" she demanded to know.

"I thought it was for the best." he sighed. "But now, we have people coming through it. That means maybe, if Earnest is alive, we can retrieve him."

"I hope so." she stated beside herself feeling overwhelmed.

"We're here." Archangel stated as they pulled into the airfield. He found the crew of Airwolf waiting at the mouth of the hangar along with the four familiar faces. The car stopped and they emerged.

Jack grinned upon seeing Colonel Hammond. "George!" he cheered.

"Colonel." he replied. His looked at the faces. "Did you ever get back from 1969?"

Sam nodded. "Eventually we did, sir. We first overshot our return but Cassie in the future was able to send us back to 1997. You will meet Cassie later."

"The Gate is in storage and has not activated." He told the team. "Just how did you get here?"

"We found another a mini-gate." Jack told him.

"Mini-gate?" Hammond asked.

"It's about…" Jack raised his hand above his hand. "Yay tall."

"Excuse me, Colonel." he replied baffled.

Sam stated, "We found an auxiliary gate system and we were sent here though that. It was 2004 when we left, General."

Archangel asked. "General?"

Jack told him. "George is our boss and runs the program."

Hammond smiled, "I make General."

Daniel spoke up. "Professor Langford!"

The Professor looked at him and replied. "Yes."

He offered a hand. "I'm Dr. Daniel Jackson. I have studied your work. I just wanted to meet you in person and say thank you."

He shook his hand. "You're welcome."

He then looked to Catherine. She looked to be in her forties. "Thank you, Catherine. I know you have not met me yet. You will. You made a lot possible for me. I just wanted you to know that."

"I'm glad I could help." she stated. "I have a question. My father just informed me that Dr. Earnest Littlefield went through the ring in 1945 and never returned. Do you think he may be alive somewhere?"

Daniel gave a warm smile. "He's alive and we know the dialing address. We rescued in him our first year of operation." he then paused. "And we got another thirteen years…" he looked to Sam.

"We have time." she agreed. "We can dial the gate, rescue Earnest early and have over a decade before we lose that gate. We can have access to that library."

Hammond stated. "I can get the gate out of storage and set it up for a rescue mission."

"The gate in storage doesn't have a dial home device, sir. The computer systems here are a bit under powered." she replied.

Jack reminded her. "The mini gate has one."

Daniel agreed. "We need it for Teal'c anyways."

Hammond asked, "Where is this…mini gate?"

"In cave." Jack told him.

String stated. "We can bring the…mini gate…here. What about this Ra cult?"

Marella stated, "I have all the files for the cult." She looked at Jack and his team. "Colonel Hammond said you were all wearing uniforms and had a patch that was unusual. S.G. One."

Jack nodded. "Yeah."

"What does that mean?" she asked.

He stated. "There are twenty two teams. We're team one. Star Gate One. S.G. One."

"Did you come with any gear, Colonel?" she asked.

He nodded. "Dom has it all locked up in a foot locker."

Dom nodded, "They were sight walking down the highway."

"Like the sight we were when you squeezed us all into your jeep." Daniel miffed. "I had to sit on the floor."

Archangel stated. "We need to secure this…mini gate…and start covert operations. You and your team, Colonel will be working for the FIRM. Colonel Hammond will be our military liaison."

Sam warned. "We cannot change history. We have to keep the timeline."

Jack stated. "You just said we could get Earnest Littlefield early, Carter."

"I think we can get away with that. But we can't start the program early. Myself and Daniel are both teenagers in 1984." she told him.

"I'm a Captain." Jack recalled.

Teal'c stated. "I am off world."

Archangel asked, "Excuse me?"

"T is Jaffa." Jack told him.

Sam stated. "Teal'c is from another planet. You all just met your first alien. And, he needs a special medication that we make for him to survive or he will die in two weeks."

Marella stated. "Our labs are state of the art. Do you have a sample of this medication?"

Teal'c informed. "I do."

"I will take a sample to the lab and see if we can make more." she offered.

"Very well." he agreed. He really did not wish to find a symbiont if he could avoid it.
