On My Way

Summary: A young Misfit Trio escape Hiccup's house after they were unfairly grounded to explore the forest and have some fun before Stoick notices they've been gone.

Pre-HTTYD.

Juno slammed the bedroom door behind her close with a loud bang. This had to be the worst day ever. Snotlout and the twins got them in trouble. Again! And Fishlegs and Astrid didn't do anything to help her and her friends. Okay, maybe Fishlegs had tried to speak up for them, but then he chickened out at the last minute, but Hofferson just chose to walk away, like she didn't care.

Oh, wait, that's right. She doesn't. Well, this wasn't the first time a situation like this happened. But it certainly won't be the last time.

She turned over to Hiccup and Ragnar, who were sitting on the bed. Hiccup was looking dejectedly down at the floor, but Ragnar was fuming like her, his arms crossed tight against his chest.

"I hate those three muttonheads!" He growled.

"You and me both, Rag." Juno agreed as she plopped down on the other side of Hiccup.

Suddenly, an idea popped into Ragnar's head. "You guys want to head out into the woods?" He asked.

Hiccup looked up at him. "Didn't Dad say that we are grounded, and that we can't leave the house at all today?"

Juno smirked at the idea. "I'm down for it. It will be just for a couple of hours. We'll get back before anyone notices we're gone. Not that anyone cares."

Hiccup smiled. "Works for me."

"Let's do it." Ragnar grinned mischievously.

Within minutes, the Trio were out in the woods, running through the tall and shady trees, quietly giggling. This was what freedom was to them. Just running around doing whatever they want, no limitations, and no Vikings bringing their spirits down. Out of the sheer pleasure of this wonderful feeling of being able to do anything and no one can say otherwise, Hiccup started to sing.

Hiccup: Tell everybody I'm on my way.
New friends and new places to see.
With blue skies ahead, yes, I'm on my way,
And there's nowhere else that I'd rather be.

Ragnar and Juno then joined him, matching smiles on their faces.

The Misfit Trio: Tell everybody I'm on my way,
And I'm loving every step I take.
With the sun beating down, yes, I'm on my way,
And I can't keep this smile off my face.

Ragnar then started to climb up a tree, and Juno followed him as they swung from branch to branch.

Ragnar: 'Cause there's nothing like seeing each other again,
No matter what the distance between.

They then landed back on the ground where Hiccup was waiting for them.

Juno: And the stories that we tell will make you smile.
Oh, it really lifts my heart.

The Misfit Trio then began running in a nearby clearing, sending white tufts of dandelion seeds flying before laying down on their backs, looking up at the late afternoon sky.

All: So tell 'em all I'm on my way.
New friends and new places to see.
And to sleep under the stars, who could ask for more?
With the moon keeping watch over me.

Juno then got up and ran out of the clearing, sending dandelion tufts floating into the air. She jumped off a big rock and spun around with the boys following her lead.

Juno: Not the snow, not the rain can change my mind.
The sun will come out, wait and see.

Finally, the Trio reached their special cliff. Hiccup ran over to the edge and felt the wind gently blowing in his face, making his hair fly everywhere. Ragnar and Juno joined him in the feeling.

Hiccup: And the feeling of the wind in your face can lift your heart.
Oh, there's nowhere I would rather be.
'Cause I'm on my way now- well and truly.
I'm on my way now.

Juno then saw the sun beginning to set over the horizon. Stoick would be back at the house soon.

"Guys. We better get back." She pointed over to the position of the sun.

"Oh, gosh!" Ragnar realized.

Hiccup smiled, not worrying about getting caught anymore. "Race you both there!" He then started running.

"Hey, no head starts!" Ragnar called after him as he and Juno took off after him.

All: Tell everybody I'm on my way,
And I just can't wait to be there.
With blue skies ahead, yes, I'm on my way,
And nothing but good times to share.

So tell everybody I'm on my way,
And I just can't wait to be home
With the sun beating down, yes, I'm on my way,
And nothing but good times to show.

I'm on my way!

Hiccup: Yes, I'm on my way!

The Trio reached the house and went into Hiccup's bedroom and collapsed on the bed, laughing happily. This little act of rebellion was what they needed to feel better.

If someone asked Stoick what had happened when he returned home, he would just say that those three were sleeping on the bed with smiles on their faces. Maybe they had found something to do that cheered them up before they fell asleep.

A/N: Sorry for not updating this in so long. I had other stories being worked on, and I was fresh out of song ideas. I had some suggestions, but I am waiting until I had some breathing room for them.

I think this is one of my better one-shots despite how short it is, and I absolutely love this song! It's one from one of my favorite Disney movies growing up. It's "On My Way", from "Brother Bear". I sadly don't own it, though. I have another song from the movie that I'm trying to get together, but it won't be posted for a long while.
