The Misfit Trio narrowed their eyes suspiciously at the Chief of the Dragon Hunters, and Juno's ruthless biological father, as they all sat at a campfire. Viggo Grimborn began roasting a few cods over the fire. This wasn't how they imagined the day turning out.
The Trio had received a Terror Mail earlier that day from Hiccup's father saying that he needed them and them alone to come to a specific location a little off the untraveled path. They obeyed, following the directions, but the Terror Mail turned out to be from Viggo instead, who they had suspected was the true sender right from the start.
They fought back naturally, but despite being brutally scarred, burned and blind in one eye, Viggo had managed to placate their dragons and get the Trio beaten. However, he had freed their dragons afterwards and said that he only wanted to talk to them, saying that Johann and Krogan left him for dead, deciding that he was no longer useful to them. Against their better judgement, the Misfit Trio were now sitting with their dragons as they began to listen.
"I won't spend the rest of my life waiting for Johann or Krogan to kill me." The Dragon Hunter Chief said. "I must strike first."
Hiccup dryly glared at him. "Hey, tell you what- we'll defeat Johann and you can watch from your cell on Outcast Island." He sarcastically made an offer. "Does that sound good?"
"I'll go with it." Ragnar answered in the same dry tone.
"And you will rot in that cell until that jail falls down on you." Juno growled lowly, sending chills down her best friend and her boyfriend's spines. But in all honesty, they weren't surprised.
After all, she was clearly shaken up when she learned the truth about the connection between her and Viggo, but she had gotten over it and developed a serious grudge against him. He and his ruthless ways were the reason why her mother left him when Juno was only just an infant and came to Berk to start a new life. Some good came out of it though, with being welcomed on Berk and eventually into her stepfather's family, but her mother never truly recovered from the horrors she had seen with the Dragon Hunters.
Viggo however, only laughed. "Oh, you three have many admirable qualities, but ruthlessness is not one of them." He said. "You're too good, too pure, too innocent, which will get you or someone you love killed."
He then sprinkled some salt on the three fishes. "Without that ruthlessness, you will fail against Johann."
He offered the Trio the fishes, but they all just narrowed their eyes at him. With an indifferent look, he tossed the fishes to Toothless, Fossil and Coccinelle. The three dragons sniffed the cods, and then gulped them down as Viggo continued.
"The truth is, I can't exact my revenge without you three and your rare and powerful dragons." He said, getting another fish for himself. "And once Johann and Krogan are defeated, I will disappear. You have my word."
"And what good is your word, Viggo?" Hiccup asked.
"The last time you said that, you nearly got us and the other Riders killed trying to help you defeat your lunatic of a brother after he staged that coup against you with the Shellfire." Ragnar added.
"And then afterwards, when Ryker met his end, you held both Astrid and Ragnar at axe point, trying to make that bargain with me and Hiccup." Juno piped in, her arms folded tight against her chest.
"After everything you've done, all the dragons and people you've hurt, you expect us to believe you?" Hiccup asked. "We will never help you."
"Even if it means acquiring Johann's Dragon Eye and all his lenses?" Viggo asked.
The Trio's brows all slightly quirked up in interest, then shared a suspicious look between each other. After a few seconds, they all came to the same conclusion. "We don't trust you." Hiccup said, looking back at their foe.
Viggo looked down. "That's a shame." He said.
He then sat down to start eating some of his cooked cod. "You three, do you know what red oleander is?" He suddenly asked.
"Of course." Hiccup said, trying to sound indifferent.
But Ragnar and Juno shared a questionable look. How is red oleander different than blue oleander, which was supposed to be deadly poisonous to all reptiles, including dragons?
Viggo lightly chuckled. "Well, you don't, actually." He said, making them slightly apprehensive by his tone. He has something up his sleeve.
"If you three did, especially you, young healer-in-training," he pointed with his fish at a glaring Ragnar, "you would know that if the flower is ingested by a dragon, it will cause a slow, agonizing death."
The Misfit Trio just stared at him, feeling more and more on edge as he continued to talk. "Dragons won't go near it, due to its pungent odor, but if it is disguised with another strong smell- something like, say, fish..."
The three suddenly had their eyes widened in shock when they turned to see their dragons licking their mouths after eating their fishes, which was given to them by Viggo. Realization hit them like a lightning bolt, and searing anger coursed through them. Juno was the first to reach Viggo, her Gronckle Iron bow turning into daggers and pointing one of them at his chest as his hands went up in surrender.
"Give us the antidote!" She yelled. "Now!"
"I don't have it." Viggo said. "Only Johann does."
That only made Juno angrier as she growled out loud, her brown eyes bursting into flames. Hiccup and Ragnar only narrowed their eyes angrily as they stepped back to let father and daughter talk.
"Why should we believe anything you say?!" Juno shouted. "We may be related by blood, but you and I couldn't be anymore different!"
"Are you sure about that?" Viggo asked her.
Juno narrowed her eyes fiercely at him before she swung her dagger at him. Viggo dodged her attempt however, and took out his own fire sword that he copied from Hiccup. They then began to fight as they also started to sing.
Viggo: Listen, little girl,
You're talking to a chief,
And I don't wanna hear the drama.
Kindness ain't my brand.
Cosette: Oh, I guess that's why we ran.
Viggo: Try being in love with your mama.
The young woman swung her dagger at him again, and it was blocked against the fiery blade belonging to her enemy. Hiccup and Ragnar were watching the fight with nervous eyes. They really hoped that she knows what she's doing, fighting him alone. They wanted to jump in, but they both got the feeling that this was more of a father-daughter fight, and it could get ugly.
Juno: You stink at being a dad.
Viggo: Poor Hilda, are you sad?
She narrowed her eyes again with hate at the name he called her. It was the name that he wanted to give her when she was born. However, since he and her mother were disagreeing on everything by then, including their own daughter's name, she was not even four days old when she and her mother left him and his cruel ways of hunting dragons.
Juno: Not as sad as you
Without your hunters.
If you didn't come to fight,
Then for once, do something right.
Viggo: I hunt dragons,
Were you expecting flowers?
Juno then dodged Viggo's blade that came near her head by rolling right and quickly getting back on her feet. She then parried both of her daggers at him, but he blocked every attempt.
Juno: You only need us
'Cause you came here for something.
Viggo: I've given you everything,
Both: By giving you/me nothing!
Coccinelle wanted to protect her Rider, but Hiccup and Ragnar kept her back, saying soothing words. "It's okay, girl." Hiccup said softly, patting her head as the fight continued.
"This is probably something that we shouldn't interfere." Ragnar added. "Plus, this is something that she needs to do alone."
Viggo: I did what I had to do. (Ooh-ooh-ooh.)
Juno: No, you only did what's best for you.
Viggo: Well, you could learn a thing or two. (Ooh-ooh-ooh.)
When push comes to shove,
You do what you gotta do, yeah.
Now Juno was starting to get angry because of all the memories that came into her head concerning her rough childhood. Her mother never told her that she was born of a different father instead of the father she grew up with, and even if he was cruel and heartless, she wished that he could've been there for her and her friends when they were being bullied by the other kids their age. She wouldn't have been an orphan. However, she pushed aside those wishful thoughts when she remembered that even if so, she would've become an even worse monster than Viggo if she was raised by him.
Juno: You were never there.
Guess you don't even care.
You never wrote to see
If I wanted you.
Viggo: Ha ha ha, are you kidding? Is this a joke?
You need to let it go.
You're stronger
With those daddy issues.
Juno: Oh! Thank you!
The Chief of the Dragon Hunters swung his blade again, but Juno dodged it as she jumped back with a barrel roll and then got back on her feet again, a smug little smirk on her face.
Viggo: Show me some respect.
I never wanted to neglect.
But my attention would've made you softer.
Juno: Ooh-hoo! Should I be proud?
Don't turn this thing around!
Viggo: I guess you are your father's daughter.
She narrowed her eyes at him and then attacked again. But he blocked her attempt to sink her daggers into his chest and pushed her away.
Juno: Don't think I need you,
You just came here for something.
Viggo: I'm given you everything,
Both: By giving you/me nothing!
She then pointed one of her daggers at him as they started to circle around each other.
Juno: I did what I had to do. (Ooh-ooh-ooh.)
I made it on my own, no thanks to you.
Viggo: Well, you could learn a thing or two. (Ooh-ooh-ooh.)
When push comes to shove,
You do what you gotta do.
How 'bout I go with you
And we'll spend some time?
She rolled her eyes as she readied herself to strike again.
Juno: How 'bout you go to jail
'Cause you're out of your mind!
Viggo: Let's make new memories,
You can show me your town.
Juno: No, you can keep your memories now.
He then readied himself with his fire sword.
Viggo: Get over it.
She narrowed her eyes at him.
Juno: I am over it!
Both: I'm over you being over it!
Viggo: Let's dance.
Both father and daughter swung again and again, either blocking or dodging the other's attempt. It might back and forth for a little while before they came to a stand-off.
Both: I did what I had to do. (Ooh-ooh-ooh.)
No, you only did what's best for you.
Well, you could learn a thing or two. (Ooh-ooh-ooh.)
They then came to a lock-hold on each other's blades, one of them slightly overpowering the other before they pushed themselves to try and overtake their opponent.
When push comes to shove, you do
When push comes to shove, you do
When push comes to shove,
You do what you gotta do!
Finally, Juno managed to push Viggo down and throw his fire sword away, extinguishing the flame. She was about to finish him off before her friends shouted at her.
"Juno, stop!" Ragnar said, making her face him from behind her. "You are going down on the path I almost went on when I learned of what Alvin did to my father."
Her eyes widened when she remembered that incident. Ragnar was so angry that he tried to kill Alvin himself. Hiccup had to stop him before he lost himself in anger and hate.
"And we're telling you the same thing that I told Ragnar four years ago." Hiccup added. "This is not who you are. If you do it, then you're no better than he is."
Juno looked over at Viggo, who once again had his arms up in surrender. She then looked at her reflection in her dagger's blade, her friends' words echoing through her head.
"You and your friends help me, and I will get you the antidote." Viggo said, getting her attention again. "Otherwise, in three days' time, your dragons will die."
The Misfit Trio all had their eyes widened in shock when the reality of the situation they found themselves in hit them hard. Juno put her daggers away as she went over to Coccinelle and hugged her head. Ragnar and Hiccup did the same with Fossil and Toothless. The three dragons crooned gently at them, sensing their distress.
The three of them looked between each other, sharing worried looks, and then back over at their dragons. Even if Viggo was bluffing and was going to lead them into a trap, there was no way that they could risk it if he was telling the truth. They all shut their eyes tightly when they sensed Viggo standing behind them, knowing that they have no other choice.
Hiccup opened his eyes, as did his friends, but didn't face their enemy. "What's the plan?"
A/N: Geez, I haven't updated this collection in forever! I've been so busy with other stories, and with college up and running again, it's gotten a little crazy.
Well, there is a bit of somewhat good news. I have chosen the last few songs that will finish off "Dragon Music Tales". However, I won't be taking any more requests. But, I'll have a poll on my profile every time that I upload a new chapter on this one, starting with this one, and you guys get to vote on what song you guys would want next. But I'll have the final one-shot as a surprise. If you want, you guys can try to guess what it might be.
The song I used is "Do What You Gotta Do" from "Descendants 3". I really liked this song when I first heard. It kind of adds a little humor to an estranged parent-child relationship, not that that is really a good thing. But still, it's a really catchy song.
Until next time, y'all! Please leave a review about what you think, and remember to stay healthy.
Got to fly! ;)
