This is Part II of the Labor Day Special. Last time, a little world building happened at Octavius Industries. Specifically, we learned of Doctor Octavius' past as Oscorp, at least part of it anyways. But while there, the new prosthetic was unveiled, and it's more advanced than anything on the market and working perfectly. For once a seemingly happy ending to a chapter here. But that's not going to last long, I'm sure. So, what's next? Read on to discover...
(Our scene opens up at Octavius Industries, where the quartet has just finished closing up for the night.)
Octavius: Tonight was a huge step in the right direction. So we're all going to need to be well rested for tomorrow.
Spyro: It's good to see you in such high spirits again, Doctor Octavius.
Octavius: Please, call me Otto. Well, I'll see you all bright and early tomorrow.
Cynder: Wait, Otto, before you go, I saw some 3D printers in the back of the shop. What were you working on there?
Octavius: A few prototypes, AIM wanted to see what I could do. And that's not all! I actually put a bid in for us to work on the Raft.
Spyro: The super prison? The one Kingpin got sent to?
Octavius: Yeah, they're modernizing their security system. Figured we had as good a shot as anyone. Tough nut to crack, but ultimately worth it.
Cynder: Seems like a risky proposition, given our track record with the mayor.
Octavius: It never hurt to be hopeful, especially with everything going on recently. Well, see you all in the morning.
Spyro: See you then, Doc.
(And just like that, Doctor Octavius leaves, leaving Spyro and Cynder way more worried than before.)
Cynder: Did he just say AIM is in on this?
Spider-Man: Yeah, Those guys are pretty predatory when it comes to funding. Especially with scientific breakthroughs
Spyro: Not just that, they're incredibly dangerous. Tony's told us about them numerous times. Not a good group to get involved with.
Spider-Man: Tony? Wait, you mean Tony Stark?
Cynder: Yeah, we've worked with Iron Man before. He's honestly nice, when he's not drunk that is.
Spider-Man: That's pretty cool.
Spyro: And beyond the point here.
Spider-Man: True. There's a lot more to be worried about.
Cynder: Yeah. Something is definitely off with Doctor Octavius. Sending prototypes to AIM, making schematics of the Raft, general dodginess about why he left Oscorp? I'm not liking the look of this at all.
Spider-Man: I'd be lying if I said I was all sunshine and unicorns. (Checks his phone) Looks like MJ called while we were working. Let's see what's up. (Redials MJ) Hey MJ, sorry we missed your call.
MJ: No worries.
Spider-Man: So... are we still on for dinner?
MJ: (Caught off guard) Dinner? Yeah, sure. I was calling you about something else, but yeah, let's talk about all of it over dinner. I'll pick up a few items and let you know when we're all back.
Spider-Man: Ember and Flame are still with you?
MJ: Yeah, we've got a lot to talk about. So, see you in a few minutes! (Hangs up)
Spider-Man: Alright then, dinner at MJ's. Low stakes, hard to screw it up. Guess we've got some time to freelance.
Spyro: Good idea. Let us know when MJ calls and we'll all rendezvous at her apartment.
Cynder: See you all in a few minutes then.
(And with that, the trio takes off to do what they do best. And a few minutes later, the trio is reunited with MJ, Ember, and Flame at MJ's apartment, with Spider-Man busy in the kitchen working on something that smells amazing.)
Spyro: So, you seemed anxious to talk to us.
MJ: Yeah, long story short, remember that address you gave us?
Ember: Well, we went there.
Cynder: (Does a spit take) Are you three crazy?!
Flame: Yeah, yeah, we know, but listen.
(At that point, Flame picks up what looks like a coin from the back of the couch and hands it to Spider-Man)
MJ: It's one heck of a story.
(But before we can get into the story, our tale ends for today)
This concludes Part II of the Labor Day Special. For Part III, head on over to The Injustice Wars. I know, this chapter was kind of short and didn't really have much to go with. I was intending to go further, but it's kind of late as I'm writing this about a month early and rewatching the cutscenes revealed more on... certain events later in the game that I won't spoil here to avoid revelaing story threads, and specifically how early they were shown, and I had to work with it. And of course, I had to reference Iron Man's dubious history with AIM, as well as show that our two dragons interact with more Marvel heroes than just Spidey. So, what were MJ and company up to? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
