"Woo! Oh, yeah! This is the life!"

Sixteen year old Peg was riding the waves near Spoonerville Beach on her large white surfboard. The waves were high as mountains and that was how she always liked to ride them. Surfing was her way of relaxing after a very stressful day, whether it was studying at or cheerleading at school or helping her family at home or doing her afterschool job, which was being a waitress at a café in Spoonerville, and she felt like she needed to surf these waves on today more than she ever did in her whole life. Not to mention that today couldn't be any better for it as the sea was cool and the beach and the air was nice and warm. It was a 1970s spring afternoon, yet it felt like summer had arrived.

Everyone on the beach, who were mostly teenagers which included students from Spoonerville High School, watched Peg brave the waves and told her how awesome she was once she finished surfing. She was glad that she was popular also because of her skills and her wits and not just that she was looking very sexy with her gorgeous tan and in her polka dot bikini. "Thank you," she kept saying to everyone as she passed.

Peg went to her red beach blanket, slammed her surfboard into the sand next to it and then rested on it from all the excitement she experienced. Then she heard a laugh and it was a laugh that she always liked to hear. She smiled as she saw her very best friend Goofy, wearing green swim shorts and wearing brown sandals, approaching her with two ice creams.

"Gwarsh!" Goofy cried. "You were amazin' out there, Peg. As usual."

"Aw, thank you, Goofy," Peg said.

Then Goofy slipped on the sand and fell. A group of teenagers walked by and laughed at him. Then they stopped laughing and started cowering when Peg rose from her beach blanket.

"What's so funny?" Peg asked angrily.

"Nothing, Peg," said both teens.

"That's right," Peg said. "Now, beat it!"

And with that, the teens scrammed. Peg knew them because they went to the same high school she did. She was the most popular girl in school – due to her looks, her excellent grades and her talents that she showed off like cheerleading, even earning the rank of being the head cheerleader, among others. No one dared messed with her. And she was never shy to use that power she had to help and protect Goofy from bullies like those two.

"Are you okay, Goofy?" Peg asked, as she helped him up.

"Thanks, Peg," Goofy said. Then he looked at the ice cream. The scoops and the cones were on the sand. "I hope you like your ice cream… sandy."

"Uh, no thanks, Goofy," Peg said. "But thank you for being so generous, anyway."

"No problem."

Then she invited Goofy to sit on her blanket next to her. "Great day for the beach, eh, Goofy?"

"Yep. Couldn't be better."

Then they looked at each other and smiled. Then they leaned in together and their lips were about to touch when –

"Goofy!"

Peg and Goofy turned to see two adults approaching them.

"Ma! Pa!" Goofy cried.

"Hi, son," the male adult said.

"Hi, Mr and Mrs Goof," Peg greeted.

"Hi, Peg," the female adult said.

"Come to join in the fun that's goin' on the beach?" Goofy asked.

"I'm sorry, son," Mr. Goof said, "but no. We have to go."

Goofy was confused. "Go? Go where?" Then he had a thought. "Where are we goin' on vacation?"

"We're not going on vacation, son," Mrs Goof said. "We're moving."

"What?" Goofy was shocked.

Peg was just as shocked to see hear that as well.

"Your dad has finally got the job he worked very hard to get," Goofy's mom said. "He has to start tomorrow, so we must go to the new house now. You have five minutes to say goodbye to Peg and your other friends, then we must go." Then she turned to Peg. "Bye, Peg."

"Good luck in the future, Peg," Mr. Goof said.

"Bye, Mr. Goof. Bye, Mrs. Goof." Then Peg sadly approached Goofy.

"I'm so sorry about this, Peg," Goofy said sadly.

Then Peg hugged him. "It's not your fault, Goofy. I just hope that, wherever it is you're going, you have a good time over there. I shall miss you and I'll never forget about you."

"And I shall forget you and I'll never miss about you," Goofy said. "Oh, sorry, Peg. I meant –"

Peg just chuckled. "It's okay, Goofy. I know what you meant."

"Well, I suppose once I get to that new place, we could be pen pals," Goofy said.

"I'd like that a lot," Peg said.

Then a car horn beeped. They turned to see Goofy's parents in their green car.

"Well, I have to go now," Goofy said. "Bye, Peg. And good luck in your future."

"Thanks, Goofy," Peg said. "And good luck in your future."

Then she quickly gave Goofy a quick kiss on his cheek which made him do his Goofy laugh as he headed to his parents' car and got in. He and Peg waved to each other until he and his parents drove out of sight.

Peg had been crying for a while because she lost her very best friend since day care. Unlike her, Goofy wasn't popular or attractive or known for his intelligence and he was always clumsy and spoke funny. What Peg saw in Goofy was that he made her laugh, he always looked on the positive and he supported her in everything she did. True support. Many of the other high school students said they supported her, but Goofy was real concrete proof of support. And because he was a very nice, well-meaning guy and he always tries his hardest at everything, Peg decided to use her power she had in every school they went to to look after him and protect him and she never regret using it for that.

"Hey, what's up, Peg?"

Peg turned to see one of her other friends standing above her. It was Pete, who was wearing his pink Speedos. He was the opposite of Goofy. He was very popular and tough and not as well-meaning as Goofy and he was the running quarterback on the Spoonerville High School football team. Peg told Pete about how Goofy had to leave Spoonerville and how much she was missing him.

"Well, good riddance to the Goof," Pete muttered his breath.

"What was that, Pete?" Peg demanded.

"Oh, nothing," Pete said defensively. "I was just thinking if a nice ice cream and a cool drink will make you feel better. My treat."

Peg wasn't really in the mood for ice cream or a cool drink, but, since there was no one else to support her properly and she decided that she needed to do something else besides keep on brooding over Goofy moving away, she accepted the offer.

As Peg followed Pete, the blue sky suddenly above the beach immediately turned red. Then all the sand on the beach vanished and became a rocky area. Then Peg saw that she was all alone. There was no Pete and there wasn't anyone with her at all. Then there was a hole cracking in the rocky area and it grew and continued to grow. Peg tried to run away from it, but she slipped and fell into the massive hole and descended into complete darkness and then…

Peg woke up and gasped. As she took some time to calm herself down, she saw that she was no longer on Spoonerville Beach in the 1970s, but in her cabin on a McDuck Cruise in the early 2000s.

"That's the seventeenth time I've had that nightmare," she mumbled angrily as she got out of bed. "I don't know why it keeps coming back to me, but if it's to remind me what a failure I've been and how my life isn't getting any better, it's not helping at all. I know I made wrong choices. What I need to know now is what the right direction is and how to take it the right way."
