A/N Gordon as a new build. I posted this chapter imcomplete at first, so if you read it then, read it again, to see the end, if you want.

The workmen of Doncaster were building a prototype of Gresley's new engine design. They finished building the big express engine and named him Gordon. The new built Gordon blinked his eyes, twitched his nose, opened his mouth and breathed for the first time. Gordon's face showed him to focused on the world around him, someone detail oriented, guided by logic and reason and proud.

Gordon's eyes gestured toward his tender, his proud smile fading. He felt thirsty and like he needed something.

A workman said, "We shall give you a drink and get you some coal. It's time for you to be steamed and tested."

Gordon smiled briefly, to show his approval. They had a fellow engine shunt Gordon to the water column and then to get coal.

Gordon was tested, an experimental engine, due to his design faults. He had a crew for his test runs. The defects were cured and Gordon's siblings, the A1 Pacific class were built.

One time after a test run, Gordon felt sad about being unable to supportive and helpful to his siblings and the railway. The stress got to him and he began to cry, eyes wet with tears. "Am I leaking out my eyes?" he asked.

Gordon's driver said, "It's called tears. They happen when you're emotional."

Gordon told his crew, "Dry my eyes or leave.". And Gordon's fireman left, but his driver stayed.

Gordon's driver pulled out a cloth from his pocket to dry his engine's tears, as he said, "There, there, Gordon. Just cry. You can rely on me to wipe your tears away." He rubbed his engine's cheeks and wiped his teary eyes.

Gordon's eyes filled with fresh tears as he cried more. He had reached the point where he could no longer hold back his tears, so he let his driver comfort him.

He said, as he continued to wipe the tears away, "I can handle your emotion, so I'm here to dry your eyes and wipe your face.". He wiped all his engine's tears away as best he could, pressing the cloth to his eyes.

Gordon cried out the last of his emotions. His driver dried his engine's last tears away, wiping his cheeks and eyes until they were dry. Gordon felt better after letting it all out after bottling up his feelings his whole life before. His crew gave him a drink and went on with the test run.

And so it was.

A/N Next chapter will be Gordon's travel to Sodor.
