Chapter 9 A Shining Star (Satellite)

A.N. – So, this chapter has a small change in it from the original plot. Nothing too major so let's begin.

Short Summary – After Odd found out how A gets from Earth to Lyoko, het tells the group, but they dismiss it. After Aelita finds out that Xana's latest attack is the deadliest one, she decides to force Xana to make a choice.

Continued from Last Chapter…

Odd's vision came back as he came out from the other side of the Lyoko door and found himself in the mountain sector. Odd was in shock and he examined himself. He was dressed the same way as if he insta-virtualized on Lyoko. The one thing that was missing was A. Odd walked around the sector and found himself on a distant mountain, a couple of ways from the main sector. He did find a path that probably connects to the main part. He didn't know if this was some joke or real.

"Jeremy, if you're there please answer me?" Odd asks as he walks on the path to the main sector. The fog in this sector was so dense that Odd could barely see in front of him. He suddenly heard the mechanical steps coming from in front of him. He suddenly stopped in his tracks. And then two bloks appeared out of the fog. "Jeremy, I'm not alone out here."

The two charged up and fired. Odd tried to dodge the lasers but had barely had any room to work with. Odd decided to run back to the mountain to see if he can dodge them. He was almost there when he got hit twice and got devirtualized. Odd then rematerialized in the scanners at the factory. He went up to the lab to find nobody there. What he experienced was real.

Odd returned to the school and found the group with disappointed looks on their faces, except for Yumi.

"Where were you? We had to cover for you" Jeremy asks.

"I was on Lyoko" Odd says.

"Not the time for jokes Odd. You got lucky this time, but we might not be lucky next time around" Ulrich tells him.

"If going to ditch, at least let us know" Jeremy adds.

"No, it's true. I tracked A through the forest, and she opened this weird door. I followed her through, and I ended up on Lyoko, but she disappeared" Odd explains.

"This is a really bad prank Odd. I know we all don't 100% trust A, but assuming she has something that allows her to travel between Lyoko and the real world" Ulrich replies.

"I don't know what it is, but I never had any intentions of skipping class. Maybe show up a little late, but that's about it."

"Save it Odd. We'll let it slide this time, but next time we are not covering for you" Jeremy explains.

The group doesn't believe him. Odd thought this was bound to happen and until he has solid concrete proof, he would be the only one to know the truth behind A.

A few days passes since the alien attack and this attack gave Aelita an interesting idea. Before she returned to Earth, she told Xana her plan.

"This week think space" Aelita tells him.

"Space? Huh? I got an idea," Xana replies. "But I need time to do it."

"What are you thinking?"

"Just a little cell phone disruption. Nothing too major…yet."

That last part made Aelita uneasy, but until Xana had what he wanted, she would have to remain in the dark. She activated her door and headed back to Earth to await this cell phone disruption.

The time was afternoon when Aelita arrived back at the academy and she heard a bunch of students talking about how their cell phones went off and the teacher confiscated them. "The attack's already in motion" Aelita says quietly.

The time had come for lunch and Aelita could keep thinking was what Xana was planning. For what purpose would Xana need cell phones for? More importunately, why have them all start ringing at the same time? Xana was planning something more and Aelita for the first time, was just as much in the dark as the warriors. Aelita then saw Ulrich and Odd walking out.

"Not hungry today? Or are planning a crime?" Aelita called out to them.

"What gives you that idea?" Ulrich asks, hoping she would let it slip by.

"Well the suspicious sneaking out and the one that sells it, Odd never passes up seconds."

"How do you know that?" Odd asks, knowing he never told her.

"Oh, people talk. I just eavesdrop."

Aelita always knew when there were seconds, Odd was first in line.

"Fine. Our cell phones went off and were going to get them back" Ulrich responds.

"There is a rule saying cell phones should be turned off. And if you don't do that, put it on vibrate."

"But all of them going off at the same time? That's not a coincidence."

"Maybe you're right, but if your looking for help in this one, I don't know what's going on." Aelita saw the looks in their face. "You show a look of distrust. I know somethings I do are untrustworthy and strange but this time you must figure out what's going on. I'll help, but not till I found out what's happening."

The two ran off to retrieve their cell phones. Aelita felt the phone in her pocket feel like it was burning. She picked it up and saw the sign of Xana. "What are you up too?"

Aelita headed up to the roof to see if she can see what Xana was up to. Maybe she could see Xana in motion to get a better idea of what was happening. She di find Jeremy up there, looking at something. "Jeremy, you find anything?" Aelita calls out to him.

"Yeah, the source of the cell phone surge. Seems like this antenna is producing high-frequency waves. It appears that this wave-length is trying to connect to a satellite, like the TV dish."

'So, that's Xana's play. He's trying to use the TV dish to access something…in space!' Aelita knew that this was trouble now. "Jeremy, Xana may be planning something big and it has something to do with space."

"What's in space that Xana could want?"

"Who knows? There are thousands of satellites, space stations, and space vehicles that Xana could use. Anything could be an advantage."

"Then we need a plan of attack fast."

Aelita ran in panic, knowing that if anyone dies, it will be on her shoulders. "How could I be so stupid? I should've known this was a bad idea. Yet I did nothing to stop it."

Aelita went to what would eventually be her room and accessed her laptop. She searched for satellites orbiting Earth. She hacked a secret military website and found the satellite Xana was trying to access. "Military satellite. Highly confidential. Used to strike space debris and missiles launched by the Soviet Union, armed with nuclear warheads, during the Cold War. Was issued after the Soviets created a successful Hydrogen bomb. Accurate laser. Enough power to completely vaporize anything it touches. Extremely accurate and lethal. Xana's targeting us."

As Aelita heads out to check with Jeremy to see if she is right, she sees Yumi and Sissi leading a protest to get their cell phones back. Aelita knows that Xana will target Yumi first, but she knows that if Xana fires the satellite he will have to avoid the factory to avoid destroying himself. But for all she knows, Xana still doesn't have what he needs. She heads over to the factory. As she arrives, she enters the lab.

"Oh, good you're here" Jeremy says, noticing her arrival.

"Have you figured out what Xana wants yet?" Aelita responds.

"Yeah, a military satellite."

"I think I know who he is targeting first."

"Yumi."

"Yeah, I'll go inform her."

Aelita took another direction. She opened her Lyoko door and went to go talk to Xana. She entered the mountain sector.

"Xana, show yourself!"

"I'm busy" Xana replies.

"With what? Killing somebody? You need to stop this!"

"This time though, I have no control. Once the satellite comes in range, there will be nothing to stop me from taking it. You can't stop time from moving."

"Laws of time and space, I know."

"Face it. This time you gave me this idea. Anyone that perishes will be on your shoulders."

Xana disappeared and Aelita clutched her fists in anger. "Fine. If you won't listen to reason, then I'll force you to reconsider."

Aelita exited and headed to the school.

Aelita arrived to see the students stopped at the gates by the principal. Aelita didn't want to get involved but she had to. "Yumi! Come with me! Xana is targeting you!" Yumi starts to run but the principal grabs her.

"Oh no Ms. Ishiyama, you're in serious trouble! You're not going anywhere!" Delmas tells her.

Aelita comes up from behind him and pulls a karate move on the back of his neck and knocks him out. "That should keep him busy. Let's go!"

With the principal out, Sissi's groups marches out of the school.

"You'll be dead if the principal wakes up!" Yumi tells her.

"The return will fix that! Right now, our priority is stopping Xana! I got a plan, but you have to trust me!"

"No! I'm not going to act as bait!" Yumi screams at her in the sewers.

"Yumi, it's the only way. The satellite will only target you and then fires. Once it fires, Xana will have to stop in order to save himself. It might not seem like it. But if Xana cares about one life more than anything, it's his." They climb out of the sewers and quickly dash into the factory before Xana has the chance to fire at them. "Now go. I got my own business to attend to."

Yumi walked to the entrance and Aelita entered her Lyoko door. "Xana, you got a problem."

"What have you done now?" Xana asks once he shows up.

"Look through the targeting system." Xana saw Yumi emerge in front of the factory. "Looks like you got a choice now."

Jeremy's Point of View

Jeremy saw Yumi emerge from the factory and just stand there. "Yumi! What are you doing?! She is crazy!"

Yumi's Point of View

Yumi saw the satellite fire and saw the bright light appear from the sky. She eyeballed it as it approached.

Aelita's Point of View

"The blast will destroy you" Aelita tells him.

"What are you trying to prove?" Xana asks her.

"Nothing. Just if Yumi falls, I'm taking you with her!"

"Fine. You're lucky I want the keys."

Yumi's Point of View

Yumi saw the laser beam out front stop inches from her. "She was right" Yumi said with a sigh of relief.

Aelita's Point of View

"Just know, you may have a trump card now, but in the future, things will change" Xana threatens her.

"That's even if you have a future" Aelita replies.

"Everyone has a future. Just how hard are you going to fight for it."

"I'm fighting right now."

Aelita exits before she explains herself to Xana as Jeremy launches the return in time.

Aelita was relaxing in the forest, giving Xana some time to calm down after this before she returns when Odd shows up.

"So, you got more secrets then you revealed to us" Odd casually asks her.

"Exactly what do you know? I'm not hiding anything" Aelita replies.

"Oh really? So, you don't have a little device that allows you to transport between Earth and Lyoko?"

"How did you find out?" Aelita asks with her eyes closed.

"I followed you through. Pretty handy. We could really use that to help in our fight against Xana."

"And if Xana caught you and used it for his own evil purposes? Your world would cease to exist."

"With everything that has happened, our world is already in trouble."

"Well, then there's more trouble. Trouble you don't even know. I'm not telling you what this is and you're not going to find out. Maybe I'll tell the group one day, but as it stands, not gonna happen."

Aelita walked away. She didn't know Odd followed her through, but she can't let the group know about her Lyoko band and door. It takes only one slip up for Xana to get his hands on it and the future changes…for the worst.
