Chapter 39 The Winter War (Cold War)
A.N. – Nothing new. Let's go!
Short Summary – After a string or false alerts, the group doesn't know what's real or not. When the group separates, Xana launches a life or death attack where the only solution is for Aelita to deactivate the tower…alone.
Disclaimer – I do not own Code Lyoko or the story idea. I am just a fan of the show, and the idea was submitted by James Marshall.
It is morning and A, Aelita, Jeremy, Odd, and Ulrich are all in Jeremy's room. Jeremy is explaining last nights weird occurrences. "First the superscan goes off, and then it tells me a weird phrase, and then all quiet. It just doesn't make sense."
"Are you sure about the alarm last night?" Aelita asks.
"Not 100 percent, but there was an alert of some kind."
"Well it wasn't Xana. I heard no pulsations last night" A said, even though knowing someone else's life was about to be put in danger. She just glanced at Odd, Jeremy, and Aelita, not knowing who Xana was gonna target next.
"Hey, Odd, could you make a little less noise. We got a situation over here" Jeremy comments, wanting to solve this before Xana can pull a fast one on them.
"Well, I got one of my own. If I can't find my short film, my chance of going big are over" Odd says, searching frantically.
"If its something of yours, why would it be in Jeremy's room?" A asks.
"That's just the way Odd is, he gives something to everybody" Ulrich comments.
"Yeah, but if I have nothing to give to T.V., my chances of impressing him and the world are not gonna happen. This is an opportunity of a lifetime."
"Thomas Vincent? Really? You'd be better off talking to an actual movie producer" A comments.
"How do you know?" Ulrich asks.
"Just trust me. You'll see." She remembered how Odd got shot down immediately by T.V. when he tried to give him his film.
"T.V. is gonna be here in five minutes" Yumi says, opening the door.
"Oh, my career is over" Odd starts to fake cry.
A looks over and sees Odd's film. She wanted to save him from what was coming, but she couldn't mess with this timeline too much. She grabs the disk and puts her hand on Odd's shoulder. "Uh Odd?" She flashes the disk as Odd looks over. "Even though I think it's a bad idea, I'll let you crash and burn on your own."
"I'll make you eat your words then A. And thank you."
"Your welcome. And I won't have a problem admitting I'm wrong." They all walk out. "I have a feeling that I'm gonna end doing a lot of admitting my wrongs in the future."
Aelita's Point of View
Aelita and the rest of the crew were in Ms. Hertz's science class, when T.V and his camerawoman came in. It seems like T.V. wanted to do a story on kids who were failing and trying to blame the school for it. For what reason, is unknown.
"Do our schools still provide a future for all youth faced with teacher's last attitudes? We have reason to doubt. To see how bad it's become, all you have to do is pick out a student at random and ask him his grade point average" he gesture towards Jeremy. "You, for instance."
"99.87 out of 100" Jeremy responds.
"Cut, that's too high. Anyone here with a below 60 average?" Odd raises his hand. T.V walks up to him. "Okay so. You're flunking out of school, right?"
"Me? Not exactly. On the other hand, I have this great DVD to show you" Odd grins, holding up his film.
"Oh, this cannot be happening. What's with this bunch of-"
The bell rings and all the student depart. "I'm so disgusted! T.V. didn't even wanna see my masterpiece" Odd commented.
"I guess A was right. You should have just given up and talk to a real movie producer" Ulrich replies.
Suddenly, Jeremy's laptop goes off. "Uh no, an activated tower!"
"I'll call Yumi" Ulrich says.
"What about A?" Aelita asks.
"Tower is in the mountain sector. We'll contact her when we get to the factory, and she'll connect with you there."
A's Point of View
A was at the point where the warriors were arriving. "I heard the pulsations early and was on the move immediately. I'm surprised you all made it here."
"Expecting something?" Ulrich asks.
"I though at least one of you would stay behind to combat Xana's plan."
"Strangely enough, all is calm. Maybe we caught on to Xana early enough where we can derail his plan before it even goes into motion" Jeremy replies.
The five take off in the direction of the tower. Suddenly, they hear buzzing and a horde of hornets come to ambush them. "We got an insect infestation here" A says.
They all separate to take out a part of the hornets. Suddenly, mid-fight, the hornets seems to give up. "Hey! Bunch of chickens!" Odd comments.
"Weird. I guess Xana's not up to snuff today" Yumi comments.
"Your answer is right there. Look," A says as the tower deactivates itself.
"Well, what do you know?" Ulrich says.
"Xana can't even give us the satisfaction of defeating him. Very disappointing" Odd adds. A knew Xana had something else planned.
"What does that mean Jeremy?" Aelita asks.
"I wish I knew" Jeremy asks in question.
The others arrive just in time to see another tower activate and deactivate at the same time. "Another tower just activated and deactivated in the ice sector" Jeremy says.
"Do you think it's a bug in the supercomputer?" Aelita asks.
"Then this is dangerous. It gives Xana an opportunity of a lifetime where he can attack us without us knowing" A adds.
"All of you go to lunch. I'll stay here and try to figure this out" Jeremy says.
"I'll stay here too. With the both of us, it will get done faster" Aelita adds.
"I'll head back to Lyoko. If Xana attack, I'll inform you" A tells them as she retreats. A then heads to sector five to see what is going on. As she arrives, she sees Xana in a constant thought. "Is this what is causing the problem? You thinking."
"To be honest, I don't know why this is happening. It's like some unknown force is deactivating the towers as fast as I can activate them. Thus causes this problem." A gives a concerned look. "You better hope your father is not involved in this."
"You leave him out of this!"
"He is my prisoner, and he is in no state to be making demands, just as you are. For him, I am his judge, jury, and executioner and is he interferes, then he'll just sign his death warrant faster."
"Can you solve this issue?"
"The next attack will have a strengthen security system to where only the Code Lyoko can stop it. Expect it soon."
A then returns to the mountain sector to await Xana's new plan. A few minutes, A hears the pulsations heading towards the ice sector. "It's starting…"
Aelita's Point of View
Aelita notices a tower activate in the ice sector. "It's starting up again. Should I call the others?"
"Hang on, it might deactivate by itself again" Jeremy says.
A few minutes pass and the tower is still activated. "Jeremy, the tower is still activated."
A's communication window pops up. "Jeremy, there are pulsations pointing to an activated tower in the ice sector. This one seems real" A informs him.
Jeremy suddenly gets a call from Yumi. "Jeremy we're stuck at the school because of the blizzard."
"What a nightmare! Xana is back to his old self" Jeremy realizes.
"Jeremy, A needs to get to the school. She can use her Lyoko band to send the others. If the conditions stay like they are, they'll never make it or die trying" Aelita tells him.
"A, you have to reach the others."
"Great idea, but how?" A asks, knowing it's easier said than done.
"I don't know, but you got to get to the academy. Send them to Lyoko from there. And don't expect a warm welcome."
"I'm on my way."
A's Point of View
A walks through the portal and appears in the middle of a blizzard. "This reminds me of the ice sector replica a little bit, only wasn't this cold." She transforms into her Lyoko avatar outfit, which warms her up a bit. She takes flight as the snow stops. "I don't how long I've got. Got to move fast."
A reached the academy when she saw the others trying to escape. They went to a crashed car only to see T.V., Sissi, and Herb in the car. "It wasn't me. It was the power steering" T.V. tries to explain.
"Yeah, right. Why not make yourself useful and get Sissi and Herb back to the boiler room fast!" Yumi demands him.
The tree starts to fall. A uses her creativity to create a rock that stops the tree from crushing her. "Where did this come from?" Odd asks.
"You can thank me later" A says as she lands. "But it's time to escape the cold."
Aelita's Point of View
"We have no choice Jeremy!" Aelita argues with him about going to Lyoko alone.
"Can't you see that's what Xana wants. To get you on Lyoko alone to steal your memory" Jeremy tells her.
"And letting the others freeze to death is a better alternative. We don't even know if a can make it to them. And the longer we wait, the more the situation turns tragic."
"Okay. Head on down to the scanners. I'll virtualize you."
A's Point of View
A and the others reach the place where the others are held up. Everyone looks at A and the costume she is wearing. They just casually walk away, trying to avoid any questions. "I'm going to send you to Lyoko."
"And me as well" William says walking up.
"No, you're not!" Yumi retorts back.
"Why not? I'm already immune to your little time reverse trick. I think it's time I see the front lines."
"The front lines aren't a place where you want to be, especially now" A tells him.
"Yeah, we just don't fight, we protect too" Odd adds.
"Protect? Protect who?" William questions them.
"Aelita, it's her that Xana wants. Oh no…you don't think…Jeremy would send her…right?" Ulrich realizes.
"Who's going in?" A asks.
"I am" Odd volunteers.
"I don't know what you're going to walk into, but as soon as you pass through, you'll end up in the ice sector. From there, you're on your own."
"Okay." A opens the Lyoko door in front of Odd and he passes through as A closes it.
"Now what?" Yumi asks.
"We wait" A says.
"Thanks for earlier. I rather be somewhat warm in here then freezing to death out there."
"You trust me?"
"Definitely. You saved my life and that's something that almost no one can repay."
Aelita's Point of View
Aelita is running away from the Scyphozoa who is gaining on her. It eventually catches her and Aelita's vison fades to black as Xana starts to take her memory. Aelita wakes up to see Odd at her side. "Would you mind if I dropped you off at the next activated tower?"
"I wouldn't say no" Aelita responds as she gets on his Overboard with him.
The mantas appear behind him and fire. "A told me she didn't know what I was walking into. But mantas, this is new."
"Xana's power has grown. We just have to adapt to this is the way things may be."
The mantas then lay out a flying mine field. "Oh great, an active minefield!" Odd eventually gets a manta to hit a mine causing a chain reaction effect that allows him and Aelita to get to the tower. Aelita enters the tower and enters the code ending the storm. As the screens fall, a jump in time is also activated.
A's Point of View
A is in her home, knowing that two of the warriors trust her completely. She knows that this attack was primarily aimed at all of them, but unfortunately, only Yumi was saved. "Two down, but I got to act fast with this. I can't let Xana get too excited about this. It may eventually move into a situation where I can't save them. And I need all five before I do what I have to try to fix the future."
A.N. – I really wish I could just skip all these chapters and do The Key right now, but that's not the case. It probably be the same with Final Round and Down to Earth as well as they will be pivotal moments in this story. Next time, the focus shifts towards saving Aelita. How?
