Chapter 40 Memories of the Past (Déjà Vu)
A.N. – So, this will be centered around Aelita more than A, but just like most of this season, there will be a lot of switching between views.
Short Summary – Aelita is haunted by visions that she can't explain. After trying to find some answers, Xana uses it to gain an advantage and A must decide to save Aelita or give Xana the keys.

Aelita's Point of View
Aelita was in the Hermitage. She didn't know for what reason she was there. As she walked downstairs to the front door she saw three men in black blocking her way out. The one in front started to approach her.
Aelita shot up in bed screaming from another nightmare. It was the middle of the night, and she wasn't herself. First it was her Mister Puck and now these men in black. She didn't now if this was visions of the future or something else.
Aelita is in the bathroom, washing water over her face, trying to get rid of these nightmares or at least calm herself down. Sissi walks in.
"Was that you screaming?" She asks in annoyance.
"It's uh" Aelita starts crying immediately. Jim arrives to check on the commotion.
"Sissi, what's this all about?"
"It's Aelita Stones, Jim. She's not feeling well" she explains.
"What about you? You're not sleeping."
"Me? Uh, well…uh, she woke me up."
Jim escorts her and she goes past Jeremy's door. "Aelita? What's going on?" He asks.
"It's uh…nothing," Aelita tells him, not to worry him. Others peek out and Jim tells them to go back to sleep. Once Aelita was back in her room, she had trouble falling back asleep. "There is only one person who I can trust to help me. My sister…A."
A's Point of View
Jeremy contacted A last night after Aelita's incident. She headed to the courtyard to get the rundown on what was happening to herself. Even though she lived this life before, it was twenty years ago for her and something she didn't want to remember.
"Now that we're all here, what did you see Aelita?" Jeremy asks.
"It was daytime. There was these men in black, coming after me. It was horrible" Aelita explains.
"Nightmares. Worst type of dream someone can have" A says.
"But they felt too real. Like I actually lived that life, or I was part of the dream."
"It happens, same with the nightmares. I had one where I was on a date with Sissi" Odd says.
"Your nightmare became a reality for me" Ulrich adds, having to date Sissi several times to avoid getting in further trouble with Jim or the principal.
"Are you going to be okay?" A asks Aelita.
"Yeah, it was just a nightmare," Aelita responds. The bell rings for class and before Aelita heads off with the others, she pulls A aside. "I can't trust the others, but I trust you."
"Really? Because it doesn't seem that way."
"That's for different reasons. I know Yumi and Ulrich trust you and I'm starting to lean that way too. Listen, these visions, did they happen to you?"
A knew she was referencing the part where Franz created her from her DNA so she thought that this could be the reason. "They did, but it was before I met the man."
"What were they about?"
Aelita was persistent and A didn't want to say anything that gave her anymore suspicions. "Normal things. Listen, nightmares are common. Don't worry about them."
"Can you help me?"
"With what?"
"If these visions get worse or if they don't stop, help me find answers! I don't want to suffer any more than I already have!" Aelita was almost in tears.
A walked up to her. "Calm down, shhhh." A was hugging her. "It will be all right. Just go to class. Try to forget about this okay? You will be all right. You have us."
Aelita's Point of View
Today's gym class was at the pool. Before any swimming took place, Jim gave a lecture. As he was talking, Aelita wasn't focused at all. She felt like her head was pounding. She tried to forget, like A said, but it seemed the visions didn't want to stay away. She now finds herself where her nightmare ended last night. Aelita runs down in the basement as a man in black runs after her. As she reaches the bottom, she runs towards the exit with another man in black chasing her. She gets up and almost feels like she is living in the vision, but it all goes black as she falls in the pool.
Aelita wakes up in her room after recovering from the near drowning experience. She was explaining the vision. "This time it was much more detailed. There was still the men in black, but it was at the Hermitage."
"That house again…" A says.
"That house ties up everything we know about Lyoko and Xana in a loop. Franz owns it, created Lyoko and Xana, and had a secret passage to the factory at his house" Yumi says.
"Or it could be Xana. He wants Aelita for something, so he could be trying to wear her down" Jeremy explains.
"Well, he going about doing it the wrong way. If she dies, he doesn't get what he wants" A explains.
"If Aelita dies, Xana wins, no matter what" Ulrich adds.
A knew Xana wasn't behind this. But to this day, she still didn't know why she received visions of her past. Was it Xana or was it her father?
The others leave and Aelita pulls on A's shirt. "I need you to help me" Aelita tells her.
"Aelita, you need to rest. This is not the time" A urges her.
"I need to go tot the Hermitage. I feel that the answers I need are there."
A didn't want to do this, but if this helps her regain her trust in her, she decided to help her. "Okay, but you must stay close to me."
"Okay."
A's Point of View
Aelita and A were walking the path to the Hermitage in the forest. A didn't know what Aelita was looking for. She didn't find anything in the past and she was sure her current self wouldn't find anything now. "Aelita, you need to accept that if you find nothing, these nightmares are just normal" A reminds her.
"But having them during the day and almost like I was living in them. Something is going very wrong here. And if Franz created Lyoko and me, his house must hold the answers as to what I'm seeing" Aelita said with determination in her voice.
Aelita and A stared at the house. A looked over at Aelita and she looked like she was in a trance. "Aelita?"
"Huh? Sorry, I was spacing out."
"Go on. This is your mission. I'm just here for support."
A followed behind Aelita as she walked into the house. Every room that they went through, Aelita seemed to be stunned. Aelita was completely out of it when they entered the living room. At this time A was also having a flashback of her father playing the piano. Most of the time when her father wasn't doing anything for Kadic, he was on the piano.
"Aelita, are you alright?"
"Yeah, I just saw a man who looked like a scientist."
"White coat? Beard? Looked like he was in his mid-fifties?"
"Yeah."
"Then that's the same guy who recruited me so he must be Franz Hopper."
Aelita then headed back out and up the stairs. As they enter the bedroom, Aelita was in another trance. Aelita's phone rings, which brings her back to reality. "Jeremy?" There's a pause. "I'm at the Hermitage and A is with me too." There is another pause. "The visions are haunting me Jeremy. I need answers and they might be here. I had to come back." There is another pause. "I'm a big girl. I can get to the factory by myself. And I also got A for protection. Nothing can defeat her." She hangs up. "Xana's attacking. We've got to-" She looks out the wind wo and jumps back in fear.
"Aelita!? What's wrong?"
"The men in black. They're here."
A looks out in the garden and sees nobody, not even a car. "There's nobody here Aelita." A looks to Aelita who is leaving. She follows and suddenly Aelita starts yelling and runs off. "Aelita!" She runs after her. She finds her opening the door to the sewers. "What's wrong with you?"
"I saw them again."
"You need to calm down. This is getting serious. You keep thinking and dwelling on this, you're gonna see them everywhere you go. But right now, we need to stop Xana." A dials Jeremy. "Jeremy, it's A. Where is the activated tower? Me and Aelita are taking the express way to Lyoko."
"I'm guessing through your Lyoko door. Wasn't there a bug that allowed it to be used on Aelita once?" Jeremy responds.
"I kind of fixed it and added a recharge system to it. It takes a few days before I can use it on Aelita again."
"Okay. The activated tower is in the desert sector."
A hangs up and opens her door. "Princess first" A motions towards her. Aelita enters and A follows her.
A and Aelita are heading towards the activated tower, and they already see the others fighting the monsters. Aelita then starts walking and the transporter to sector five arrives.
"The transporter? But I didn't call it up" Jeremy says in confusion.
"Sorry Jeremy. But I need some answers," Aelita responds as she stands. A runs before the transporter swallows her up and A is also transported with her. The transporter opens and A is on top of Aelita. "What are you doing?"
"Me? You're the one willing to risk your memory just find answers that aren't here."
"I told you I trust you. And since we're here now, you're just gonna have to join me."
The wall opens and two run through. A knew Xana wasn't going to pass up an opportunity like this. All she hoped was he didn't think this was the helping him acquire the keys she mentioned. As they entered the Core Zone, the Scyphozoa immediately appeared. It grabbed Aelita and started to drain her memory. Xana briefly appeared.
"I didn't think you could pull through Aelita. You brough me a great prize" Xana told her.
"This doesn't count. Aelita is plagued by visions of her past" A responded.
"So? When I scanned your mind, your plagued by a vision of death in the future you're trying to prevent. You and her are not so different. Visons plague you and you'll risk everything to make them stop, even if the end result is horrible."
"That's why I'm here! I can learn to live with them. But I'm not risking losing my future just so I can save one soul. Aelita doesn't deserve to suffer!"
"That is not your choice. Her past from 1994 is something you cannot change. And while I still have her memories, this will continue."
"It is you!"
"Bingo! But now I will have the keys. Farewell." Xana disappeared as the others appeared.
"Not this time" A said with some malice as she shot the Scyphozoa releasing Aelita. It tries to go again, but Ulrich appears and slices the tentacles off. A then sees Yumi hit the key, deactivating the countdown.
They all head for the elevator and when they reach the celestial dome, Aelita interacts with he interface. Xana reappears and only A can hear him. "Poor choice."
"There is another time. I still need their trust."
"Their trust is meaningless! You had the perfect opportunity to let me win and you blew it!"
"I have other plans for her."
"You are making it incredibly difficult to keep trusting you."
"The keep holding on, because even though we are close, we still a way's away."
"I'm getting what I want!" Two Scyphozoa's appear and one of them holds A to stop her from interfering.
"The Scyphozoa has A and Aelita!" Jeremy says.
Yumi throws her fans saving A. Ulrich jumps off.
"You didn't learn after the first time" Ulrich says before slicing the tentacles and releasing Aelita.
"It's time you deactivated the tower" Yumi tells her as they all board their vehicles. A activates her wings and they all fly through the tunnel. They appear back in the desert sector and Aelita deactivates the tower.
The next day, Aelita explains her visions are gone.
"You see? It was just a trap, set by Xana" Jeremy says. Unfortunately, Jeremy was right.
"I guess. But I'd still like to know where those memories came from?" Aelita wonders.
"Maybe Xana made the whole thing up. Something to mess with her mind, traumatize her" Ulrich suggests.
"I still don't get it. When I had the visions at the Hermitage, it felt like I was reliving them."
"That however can't be" Jeremy says.
Before classes begin, Aelita pulls A aside. "I want to thank you for helping me with all the craziness that I put us through."
"No problem. Just answer one thing, do you trust me? Fully?"
"Yes. With everything that you did for me, if you had any malicious intent, you would've done what you did."
"Just try to talk to Jeremy as well. I still think he doesn't trust me."
"I know. He believes you're allied with Xana because you accessed a program that had Xana's signature on them. Only Xana can access them."
"Well, maybe I know more than you think. Maybe I can access stuff that Xana can as well."
"I will try to talk to him. Just give him time and maybe he'll trust you again."
A knew Xana still had the upper hand with her memories and now she knows that now he manipulate her memories at will. This was becoming dire, but A was making progress in regaining their trust.
