Chapter 50 Victory and Defeat (Temporary Insanity & Sabotage)
A.N. – Nothing much to say rather than William is now part of the group, and the main reason will be revealed in the season 3 finale. I've hinted at it before.
Short Summary – After Xana attacks the group indirectly, Jeremy rushes to find an answer while Xana takes the opportunity to destroy the core.
Short Summary – After Xana's latest scheme makes the supercomputer malfunction, the group races to fix it before Lyoko disappears forever.

The group is in sector five collecting data on trying to locate Franz Hopper. Even if they were to localize him, A would make sure they wouldn't rematerialize him. It was vital to her mission that he remains on Lyoko. Odd and Yumi are on their respective vehicles, but Yumi's is destroyed and Odd catches her. William and Ulrich on the celestial dome platform protecting Aelita and themselves. A was flying around the celestial dome, helping with the mantas.
"Aelita, I'm trying to collect more data on Franz Hopper, but I can't access the subsystems," Jeremy informs her. "Be careful, more mantas coming your way."
"I see them. They're coming from the edge of the sector" A points to them.
One of them fires and A tries firing at it and she misses. The laser fires towards Aelita and Ulrich takes the shot. Yumi is also devirtualized from another laser.
"Jeremy is this mission almost over. At this rate, the monsters will kill us before we finish" William says deflecting more lasers.
"No, I don't have the appropriate data needed for finding Franz Hopper. The only advice I have is hold on" Jeremy tells them.
"Easy for you to say" Ulrich retorts back.
"I'm almost ready to access the subsystems" Aelita says as she continues to hack her way in.
"Speaking of getting killed, how many life points do we have left?" Odd asks.
"Not many for all of you. Better be careful" Jeremy warns them.
"Ulrich, go and help Odd and A with the mantas. I'll be fine here" William tells him as Odd pulls up.
"Buckle up Shirley" Odd says as Ulrich hops on.
"Nice of you to join the front lines" A says.
"Yeah, now as long as Ethel and Yvette can stay still, we can finish them."
"Really Odd? Stop with your dumb names" Ulrich says.
The last two mantas at this time joined together and fired at the two boys but didn't devirtualize them. They separate and the both destroy one. They head back to the platform with A.
"Huh, what's that?" Aelita asks.
"Beats me, they shot at us, and this is what happened" Ulrich responds.
"A?"
"Obviously Xana, only question is what?" A responds as the two suddenly devirtualize.
"Maybe a super powerful devirtualization weapon?" William asks.
"No, if Xana wanted that, those mantas would have blown them away. There is something else behind this."
As soon as the boys reappear, Jeremy rematerializes the other three. "Jeremy any idea what happened out there?" Aelita asks.
"None at this moment. All seems normal in their virtual structures and quantum scans. I'll have to analyze it more closely to see exactly what Xana did to them" Jeremy explains.
"In simple English please?" Yumi asks.
"He has to carry out a full scan of everything behind the boys to make sure Xana didn't corrupt their virtual avatars or their physical bodies in anyway" A explains.
"Well, maybe later, because we got rehearsal in five minutes!" Odd says.
"Rehearsal? Oh no, I completely forgot about it!" Jeremy says.
"Best part about being an adult, no school schedules" A says with a smile.
"Better get going then" William says.
As the group headed in, A watched from the outside. She wanted to make sure nothing happened to Odd and Ulrich during this time. This could help eliminate what Xana did to them. Everything was going up until Odd called something really out of ordinary.
"They find their way at once. Oh, small wonders that, forges within my heart, how small your ear… And from their fair heights descending, words fall fast, but mine must mount madam. They need more laser arrows!"
Everyone looks at him confused and A has a shocked expression on her face. "Anything abnormal about that?" William asks.
"Yes, I remember this. We gotta put an end to this right now" A says as they rush in.
"Dunbar and mysterious girl, what are you doing here?" Jim asks.
"We came to take Odd and Ulrich back to their rooms. They've been overworked this whole week. It's gotten to their heads" William tries to think of an excuse that would allow them to get Odd and Ulrich out of there.
"William, A, get away from the blok!" Ulrich demands.
"A blok? You're the blockhead here Stern!" Jim says.
"We need to take them now! I'm an adult here and I have the same authority as you do" A says.
"Well listen miss A, these student are in our care, not yours. Unless you're their legal guardians, you have even less authority than me!" Ulrich and Odd charge Jim, thinking they're gonna save A and William, but Jim catches them. "Someone call an ambulance! Stern and Della Robbia have completely lost it!"
As Ulrich and Odd are loaded into the ambulance, A tells them about this attack. "Somehow Xana altered their visions. They think they're on Lyoko, but in reality they are not. And since not everyone has a Lyoko avatar, they see them as monsters" A explains.
"So, that explains the paranoia" Aelita explains.
"Yeah, but how do we keep them from telling everyone about Lyoko and Xana?" William asks.
"For now nothing. Everyone thinks its fake and we can still use it to our advantage," Jeremy says. "I'll see if I can cure them. For now, follow them to the hospital."
"I'm coming with you. It will go faster" A says.
Jeremy and A found what Xana did. "Yeah, Xana did infect their virtual avatars and their physical bodies. If we didn't have that rehearsal, we could have fixed this earlier" Jeremy explains.
"Is there a cure?" A asks.
"Yes, we got to get them into a way tower on Lyoko. I can then launch a program to delete whatever Xana infected them with to set them straight."
"I'll call Yumi."
Aelita's Point of View
"Looks like we have to spring Odd and Ulrich to stop whatever is going on" Yumi says after hanging up.
"Problem is how to spring them without alerting anybody? It's just as hard as trying to spring a criminal from prison" William says.
"First step is finding out where they are" Aelita says.
"Then let's try to get in," Yumi says as they walk up to the receptionist desk. "Hello, we are here to see Odd Della Robbia and Ulrich Stern."
"I'm sorry but both are under observation. No visitors allowed!" The receptionist goes back to reading.
"Now what?" William asks.
"We listen" Yumi says as some doctors talk nearby.
"They glance over their shoulders to see a doctor that was tending to their friends earlier. "The two young men in room 237 are fighting imaginary enemies they call blocks, megatanks, and Xana."
The other doctor laughs at how absurd it sounds. "Where do they get such crazy names from? What do you think, professor Hornet?"
"Typical of today's youth" the doctor says.
"Room 237. Let's go!" Yumi says as the three take off. The three approach the room and see a guard standing outside. "Leave him to me." Yumi approaches and does a little act that he buys. Aelita and William approach the door.
"Remember, pretend we're on Lyoko" Aelita reminds him. William nods in response.
"Aelita, watch out for the krabs!" Odd tells her.
Aelita 'prepares' two energy fields to get rid of the two fake monsters. The two then go to free Odd and Ulrich. "Xana is behind this. I know where the activated tower is. Follow me." As they leave they bump into Yumi. With the group united, they all go to depart. As they make their way to the exit, the female doctor notices and they all take off. As they are running Yumi's phone rings.
"Yes Jeremy?" She pauses. "We're on our way. Xana is attacking the core of Lyoko."
Just as Yumi finishes, a police car shows up which Ulrich envisions as a megatank. "Go ahead, I'll take care of the megatank" Ulrich says.
"The megatank can wait, Lyoko can't! Now let's go!" William pulls him.
All of them reach the lab and only Jeremy sit sin the chair. A was already virtualized. Jeremy was able to trick Ulrich and Odd to getting into the scanners. After they were virtualized the others were.
A's Point of View
"About time you showed up. I was getting a little lonely here" A says.
"You can say that again. Not a kid in sight" Odd remarks.
"Okay, Aelita you deal with Odd and Ulrich. A, Yumi, and William, head off to the edge of the sector. We got no time to lose" Jeremy instructs them.
"Jeremy, we're here at the edge of the sector," Yumi says. "Can you send us a taxi?"
"You bet! A big white stretch limo is on the way" Jeremy says. He presses enter, the transporter arriving in front of A, Yumi and William. It spins around and engulfs them inside, heading toward Sector 5.
The transporter drops off the three in the arena. The door opens and the three rush off. Just as the countdown was approaching zero, Yumi hits the key and the door to the celestial dome opens. As they enter the dome area, Yumi and William get onto the Overwing, and A activates her wings. They reach the entrance and fly straight in. When they get to the platform A hits the key that allows the stairs to appear.
The three start their ascent up to the core. Two manta head down to stop them. Yumi stops as she blocks shots. "I'll head for the top one. You get these two with Yumi" A tells William.
Activates her wings and flies for the top. She gets in front of the manta. It prepares a shot. "Energy field!" A fires an orb before it fires. She looks down to see how the others are faring.
William ascends a few levels and jumps off, landing on a manta. He stabs the symbol and jumps off onto a lower platform. He backs up and jumps off lands on Yumi's manta stabbing it as well. He jumps off and lands next to Yumi. "Thanks for the assist" Yumi says.
A creeper emerges in front of A without her noticing. "A, watch out!" Jeremy warns but is too late as she is hit and starts falling. Yumi throws her fans, devirtualizing her quickly. She reappears in the scanners.
"Thanks Yumi" A says as she gets on her knees.
Aelita's Point of View
The other three arrive in time to see the creeper destroy the last protective shield. "Be careful! All the protective shields are gone! If the core takes one hit, just one, it's all over for you and Lyoko!"
William jumps to get a better vantage of the creeper. He prepares his sword and fires a sword slash at the creeper destroying it before it can fire at the core. "That's what you get for sneaking up on my friend."
A's Point of View
Jeremy brings everyone back in and Odd tries to pull a joke that they almost fall for. Jeremy then launches a return trip in time. A was in the woods and William approached her. "Don't you have a play to attend too?" A asks.
"Theater ain't my thing. So, what's the deal?" William asks.
"With what?"
"Recruiting me early. Did you do it to convince me, or you knew I would become a warrior eventually?"
"Can't we say both. Yes I knew you would become a warrior so showing early really had no effect becomes it yielded the same results."
"So, that's how time travel works. You can break timelines as long as it yields the same results?"
"Not always. I tried to do that, but it lead to more apocalyptic results then happy sunshiny future."
Sabotage
A was back in her virtual abode after another Xana attack. With William, managing them has become less of a hassle, but Xana was determined to destroy the remaining sectors and destroy the sphere or Lyoko by any means necessary. As she was about to sit down in her home she immediately phased through it. Everything in her habitat started to phase in and out before it all stabilized. During the attack, aal of them were affected by bugs during combat. Since Xana showed no signs of anything happening on Earth, they all thought that the bugs were Xana's doing. So A was now wondering if something else was going on with Lyoko.
A comes back in the lab which grabs Jeremy's attention. "What are you doing back here?" Jeremy asks.
"My virtual home is bugging out. I don't think Xana's attack was the bugs" A says.
"Let's go check on the supercalculator."
The two descend to the bottom level of the factory and supercalculator rises out of the ground. Jeremy presses a button and inspects the panel. A pushes one and finds it damaged. "We got problems."
"What is it?"
"Someone was here and whoever it was damaged the panels. And it looks like whoever damaged them made sure to damage specific ones hat impaired our combat. But since the damage was not fixed, now the supercomputer is getting more unstable."
"We've been sabotaged."
"By Xana."
"Sabotage?" Aelita asks.
"Yes by Michael Riley, possessed by Xana. According to A, he attacked specific panels that caused problems during combat but now the damage is so extensive that now the supercomputer is failing" Jeremy responds.
"In basic terms, your combat ain't gonna work until the supercomputer and if the problem isn't addressed the supercomputer and Lyoko will disappear, giving Xana what he wants" A simplifies.
"How long till Lyoko vanishes?" Ulrich asks.
"Rough estimate, 3 hours" Jeremy responds.
"Are you sure the whole thing will be destroyed?" Aelita asks.
"Yes, A even started experiencing abnormalities in her home, so if that's starting to disappear, I'm sure Lyoko ain't far behind."
Suddenly Jim comes into the cafeteria calling Jeremy's name. "Uh Jeremy, Lyoko may have to wait because Jim wants to do your room inspection" A tells him.
"Oh no…I forgot about the inspection."
"Did you clean your room at least?" Ulrich asks.
"You mean since last week, than no."
"I looked for you everywhere last night and your room is the only one I haven't inspected yet. So come on now, on your feet!" Jim says.
A, Ulrich, Odd, and Aelita were out in the hallway. Aelita was holding a box that Jeremy gave her. "Was Jeremy always that much of a slob?" Odd asks.
"He is a lot cleaner in the future" A responds.
"But what do we do about the supercomputer? Jim ain't gonna get off his case till his rooms clean" Ulrich says.
"Yeah, and in 3 hours the supercomputer will fail" Odd adds.
"Maybe A and I can fix it. I'm sure that's what Jeremy meant when he gave me this box. I'm sure this has the circuits we need to fix the supercomputer. Make up some excuse for me" Aelita says as her and A head off.
A and Aelita arrive in the supercalculator room and start to repair the supercomputer. After repairing most of the damaged panels, Aelita gets a phone call. "Yes Jeremy, me and A did what we could in the meantime, but I don't know if it will hold up. The others? No, nothing yet. Okay, then hurry up." She hangs up. "Xana is attacking."
"He is determined to make sure we don't fix the supercomputer" A says.
A and Aelita go up to lab and Aelita activates the superscan. "25 degrees North Northeast ice sector."
"So, now we know where the tower is."
The elevator opens to reveal just Ulrich. "Where are the others?"
"All tied up. Xana's using nature to attack us" Ulrich responds.
"Prevent us from fixing it. Smart" A responds
"You changing sides A?"
"No, but I never expected Xana to be smart enough to do this."
"I'll see where Yumi and William are." Ulrich dials her number. He suddenly screams their names as they're in trouble. "We got no time to lose."
"You two get to the scanners. I'll see if I can manage to fix the rest of the supercomputer while you guys try to deactivate the tower," A says. Ulrich and Aelita descend down and A virtualizes them into the ice sector. As A works on the supercomputer the elevator reveals Jeremy and Odd. "Perfect timing. The supercomputer's almost finished."
"Ok, Odd, head on down. You're going in," Jeremy says. Once he virtualizes Odd, he tries to reboot the supercomputer, but can't because of the loss of power. "Guys, bad news, I can't reboot the system. However if you deactivate the tower, maybe it's power surge will allow me to reboot it."
"That's nice Jeremy, but over here we can't deactivate the tower until you reboot the system" Aelita tells him.
"Aelita can still enter towers though right?" A asks. "Give me the headset. Aelita, listen to me. You have to destroy the ice sector."
"What!? I thought our goal was to stop Xana from doing so, not assist him!"
"You gotta trust me on this. It will not only expel the power needed to reboot the system, but also deactivate the tower." Aelita is silent. "It's one sector versus all of Lyoko and the world. Make the small sacrifice."
"Fine. I'll do it."
"One more thing, once the reboot happens we won't be able to rematerialize you. You'll to do so on your own."
The two waited for the signal of the ice sector disappearing. Jeremy waits until the power is at max. "Here we go. Reboot system." He hits enter as everything becomes unbugged. All three reappear in the scanner room as well.
"The repairs are only temporary, but at least they keep our fight against Xana alive" Jeremy asks.
"Did the supercomputer ever get fully fixed in the future?" Odd asks.
"Yeah, I'm not gonna say when though" A responds.
"So, now we only have one sector left, the mountain sector" Yumi says.
"And my home. If the mountain sector goes, so does my home."
"And we still have no way to virtualize into sector 5, the internet or a way to stop Xana" Jeremy says. "I'll just double my efforts to find the virtualization code for sector five. If we get that we can have a faster way of stopping Xana from destroying the core."
"I'm gonna retreat. These past two days have been a little too stressful." A opens her Lyoko door. "Till our next mission." She walks through and the door vanishes.
A.N. – I though this chapter would be much shorter but apparently Temporary Insanity turned out to be longer than expected. Next one will be its own separate entity, and then a combo chapter, and then the finale. Only three chapters left in season 3. PM me with story ideas! Review with questions or comments!
