Chapter 60 The Reason Why (The Lake)
A.N. – So, during the duel will be when Yumi confronts A with William will be the major change. Some secrets will be revealed.
Short Summary – Yumi and William are stuck at the academy while the others get thrown into a game of life or death when Xana surrounds them on the island their trapped on. While the guys plan to bring Aelita to Lyoko, Yumi and William struggle with their worst enemy…A.

Aelita's Point of View
The ninth grade science class was preparing for a two-day trip of a live science experiment. While everyone is happy to be away from the academy, Jeremy believes that Xana will take advantage of the situation, especially with A as his weapon.
"What if Xana attacks while we're away?" Jeremy asks Aelita in concern.
"After a week of working day and night on the program, I think we deserve this weekend, don't you?" Aelita smiles softly. "It'll be the first time we go camping together too!"
"What program Einstein?" Odd asks.
"Aelita thought we should shore up the protection shields on the skid. We haven't tested it yet, though" Jeremy explains.
Odd wasn't paying attention and bumps into Jim. Odd was planning something with his big bag. Odd was able to convince Jim to let him bring the bag onboard. The bus started and Ulrich saw that Kiwi was in it.
"Really Odd?" Ulrich asks.
"I can't let him stay cooped up while we're outside" Odd responds.
"Yeah, but you're lucky the whole school is hiding it from the staff. But with Jim and Ms. Hertz here, you're sure to get busted!" Ulrich whispers.
"Will you relax. I got ideas."
"Your ideas haven't worked in the past, so why should I trust you now?"
"If there was ever a time to start, now would be the time."
"I'll call Yumi. See how her and handsome are holding up." Ulrich talks to Yumi and when he hangs up, Kiwi barks getting Jim's attention. He confronts him and Kiwi jumps into his arms after Odd tried to hide him. "Like I said, busted." Ulrich crosses his arms and smiles.
The four arrive at the lake with an island in the middle. This was to be their home for two days. As the four use a boat to travel, Jeremy can't get a signal to the supercomputer.
"We'll be fine. We have the home front keeping an eye on things" Aelita reassures him.
"It's not Xana I'm concerned about, it's you Aelita, well the future you A" Jeremy responds.
"Yumi and William can handle her."
"I'm not so sure. She can beat three of us without breaking a sweat. Defeating Yumi and William will be like a cakewalk for her" Ulrich explains, remembering the night Xana escaped and A revealed the truth.
"If that's the case, we have to trust in their ability to win." Aelita then phones Yumi to tell her to check on Xana frequently. She eventually loses the connection. "I lost connection, but I think she got the message.
Yumi's Point of View
Yumi pulls William aside. "Hey, I got to check on Lyoko. Think you can cover for me?" Yumi asks.
"Why can't I come with you?" William asks. "If Xana is attacking and if that happens, you know-"
"A will show up. I'm well aware of that. Fine, come along."
The two head to the factory. They arrive and Yumi runs all calculations. At first glance everything seems fine. "Well, all seems calm. No activated towers, no A attacks, no attack on the skid or core. We should be able to get back and do our test."
"Not yet, look" William points to the screen as a tower activates in the ice sector.
"Oh wonderful" Yumi tries to phone Aelita but can't reach her.
"That's not all look."
Another window pops up showing the skid under attack. Yumi looks back to the ice sector and sees three blimps. One of them was A.
A's Point of View
A was in front of two krabs as she eyed the tower. "Let's go. We have to buy time." A and the krabs advance towards the tower.
Yumi's Point of View
"The skid is under attack, A is protecting the tower, and Jeremy is out of commission. Why do all these problems have to happen now?" Suddenly Jeremy's phone pops up. "Jeremy finally. We got big problems here."
"Us here too. We're playing survivor with an aquatic monster Xana has created and he's stopped us from getting to the shore. What about you?"
"A has just showed up to protect the tower and the skid is in the process of losing most of its life points and shield."
"You'll have to handle A yourself, but let's try to focus on saving the skid. We're testing the program."
"We're testing the program!? I'm not Aelita or you! If I screw up, there could be big problems!"
"Listen calm down. Take out a pen and paper and write down exactly what I say word by word. Then enter it into the supercomputer."
Yumi writes down Jeremy's program. When he was finished, she entered it but messed up a code. "Jeremy, what are these commands?" There's a pause on Jeremy's side.
"Listen, plan B. Head to Lyoko, take care of A and any resistance. Aelita is going to make a dash for the factory, and she'll run the program. Good luck."
"Same for you." Yumi then enter a self-delayed virtualization, dictated by Jeremy. "Let's go William."
Yumi and William step into two scanners as the program launches. The two of them land in the sector, side by side. They see the tower and approach it. "Two krabs, no A?" William says, knowing they saw A on the holomap.
"Could be a trap. Stay sharp. She's crafty" Yumi warns.
"First, let's take out our friends from the sea."
The two each attack a krab and they fire. Yumi dodges and blocks shots while William dashes at his. Yumi then flips and lands on top of her krab. She throws her fan and hits the target. She jumps off before it explodes. William goes under his. The krab uses its second attack and blast William. Yumi comes in to help and she slices the two front legs off. William stabs the ye and explodes, sending both her and William into the tower.
A's Point of View
A hears the tower entry sound and sees two familiar bodies enter. Luckily for her, they were facing away from her. They stood up and we're about to leave. "Hello Yumi and William." They hear her and are about to turn around but A kicks them both out of the tower. The two land on the platform just outside and A emerges from the tower.
"You're not winning this time A" Yumi says as she draws both of her fans.
"Get real. You two might be strong, but you'll never be on my level." A decides to not draw her weapon to prove her point.
Yumi throws her fans which A dodges. William tries to hit her now distracted. She quickly grabs the blade and stops William's attack. She kicks him in the stomach, disorienting him and then kicks him away from her. Yumi quickly looks over at him. A uses this to fire a quick orb at her. William quickly jumps in the way to save her. A just grins angrily.
"Why'd you do that?" Yumi asks.
"Wouldn't you do the same?" William asks, still having some life points left. He slowly stands up. A now draws her sword. "What happened to not using weapons?"
"Apparently you two need to be taken care of quickly. Such a shame. I wanted to prolong your suffering for as long as possible as your precious ship gets destroyed" A responds.
William and Yumi then surround her. "Why did you do what you did?" Yumi asks.
"Which one? Gain your trust and betray you? Delay you destroying Xana by helping him take Aelita's memories? Giving Xana the keys? Or destroying your precious virtual world?"
"You did all those things?"
"Every single one. Whether it benefited you or Xana was of no concern of mine. It only mattered that it benefited me."
"And now Xana knowing this will continue to trust you?"
"He knew, way before you did. He actually gave me his okay with this."
"You were working with Xana from the start, weren't you?"
"When I first arrived, not really. His attack had to fail for him to see things my way. But yeah, I was working with him. Planning his attacks, leaking your future missions. Did you think everything that happened up until his escape was all coincidence? I knew what was gonna happen. I just made it happen this time."
"So, are we screwed now? You probably leaked the future with him."
"Maybe. Maybe not. That's for me to know and you to figure out."
Aelita's Point of View
Aelita pedals hard as she arrives back in the city. She finally arrives at the factory, riding across the bridge. She grips the rope once she reaches it, soaring across the edge. The bike falls onto the main floor. She then arrives in the computer lab, running up to the chair. "Is the skid beyond hope? No, not yet." She gets to work. "Okay, it's launched," Aelita looks up at the screen, four towers appearing on it. From each sector, a way tower is activated. The Scyphozoa continues taking energy until the shielding knocks it back. The Scyphozoa is finally destroyed, and the skid is saved. "Well," Aelita leans back, arms behind her head. "We should feel proud of ourselves." She smiles happily. "Our program is operational!"
A's Point of View
A fell silent as she heard Xana. "Plan B time. Eliminate them!" Xana ordered her.
She smiled evilly. She charged William. She picked him up and impaled him through the stomach in front of Yumi. Yumi only watched in horror. "One down, one to go." She then started approaching Yumi. Yumi backed up as A continued to approach her. She threw both of her fans. A managed to block them both. Yumi reached the edge. "You got two choices. Surrender or fall." She heard the sound of her energy orb and saw Aelita fire an orb at her. A lost her balance and was near the edge.
"How about three? None of the above!" Yumi kicked her over the edge, and she went falling into the digital sea.
Aelita's Point of View
"That was for William" Yumi said with a sad expression on her face.
"You okay Yumi?" Aelita asked.
"What she told us, she was always the enemy."
"Maybe, but we still have the chance to save her and turn her back to our friend" Aelita responded with optimism for her future self.
Aelita then ran towards the tower and deactivated it to stop Xana's current attack on Earth. "William, launch the return in time."
"Right. Return to the past now!" Aelita's vision was engulfed in white as time was reset.
Yumi's Point of View
Yumi was out taking care of Kiwi, under request of Odd, with William. The two of them were in disbelief over their last mission with A.
"Do you believe everything a said?" William asks.
"I've been with this group from the midpoint of Xana's first attack. But I didn't know about A until Xana's second attack. She saved me and Ulrich from Xana's rampage" Yumi replies.
"You know her better, right?"
"No, Aelita knows her better. She is her, and Aelita will be her. If anyone can find out the answer, it's her."
"I would like to believe you, but with A determined to bring her to Xana, them having a one-on-one chat is impossible."
"We'll just have to wait till she comes back home. Once Xana is gone, she'll have no choice but to answer to all her crimes."
A.N. – This ends this eye opening chapter for the warriors. For now, Yumi and William know what A told them, but assume by the next chapter that everyone else knows. Next time, A gets her first victory over the warriors as the Lyoko Warriors return to the replica to destroy it. PM me with story ideas! Review with questions or comments! I will respond!
