I'm so excited to be participating in this year's Robstar Week hosted by robxstar! Look out for other related fics this week on their Tumblr.
Day 1: Friends to Lovers
Timeline: Starts During 5.10: Go!, continues on from there for several years
True love can spring up between two completely unexpected individuals. It's something the god Eros knew well, having personally experienced it long ago with his beloved Psyche. Matchmaking was mostly a job for him before his wife's trials, but afterward he became more personally invested in his duty.
Eros continued his matchmaking throughout the millennia, which brought him to Jump City one night in 2003, where he witnessed a confrontation between two teenagers.
The boy, a sidekick recently escaped from his mentor to make his own mark on the world in the sphere of crime-fighting.
The girl, a Tamaranean princess escaped from captivity, grown accustomed to violence after such harsh living.
Together, their compatibility and chemistry was off-the-charts. This would be a pairing of epic proportions.
If Eros was a more foolhardy deity, he'd have fired an arrow right there and then, but he would wait. Many people think he just fires arrows and makes people fall helplessly in love with each other, and while the arrows are certainly capable of that, he doesn't use them that way. Instead, he waited for his intended targets to form a connection before he'd cement their love.
"Let's see how this pans out," he said.
And it was indeed an eventful night. More extraordinary individuals arrived at the scene, and the boy freed the girl from her cuffs which prompted a Tamaranean language transfer. (Though Eros let himself imagine it was a kiss. It's not like the boy knew what it truly was.)
Together the newly-forged superhero team defeated the invading Gordanians, and once the threat was over the boy and girl were ready to forge that bond.
"I still don't know your name."
"In your language, it would be 'Star Fire.'"
"Welcome to Earth, Starfire."
"I thank you all for your bravery and help, and I wish to ask permission to remain here, where the people are most strange… but also most kind."
The two of them proceeded to make eye contact and deeply blushed at the same time.
Yes! This was it! Eros immediately loaded two heart-tipped arrows and expertly launched one at each of them. The connection was forged — now all they had to do was take that next step.
"They'll be dating in no time!" the god proudly declared.
Yeah, that's what he thought. But whether it be cultural differences between species, Robin's dedication to the mission above all else, or simply outside meddling, it seemed he and Starfire just couldn't make it official.
Sometimes they got close, like at prom.
Other times…
"She's not my girlfriend!"
"If I am not your girlfriend, then what am I!?"
Yeah…
Such is the state of superhero romance. It ultimately took that fateful excursion to Tokyo for the two of them to make their relationship official, but once they did it worked like a well-oiled machine.
Eros was so excited when they finally got together that he didn't notice Larry the extradimensional imp stealing his arrows.
(Though the wacky adventure that caused did give the god the opportunity to meet the fated couple, so it wasn't all bad.)
There were a fair share of outside forces who tried to keep Robin and Starfire apart, whether that be Kitten's latest scheme to forcibly win Robin's heart, xenophobic Tamaraneans who didn't approve of their princess dating someone from Earth, etc., but they overcame it all.
And years down the line, little Mar'i and littler Jake became living proof that everything worked out properly in the end.
I wonder how many other writers will write stuff for this week...
