Chapter 6: Monster Mashionals
The Fenton parents were worried about their son. They knew Danny was dating a monster and, unlike him, didn't trust her. "Maddie, do you think we should've told Danny about Sam's feelings for him?" Jack asked.
"No, Jack." Maddie quickly answered.
"You're right." Jack agreed. "She creeps me out more than monsters do."
"That's not what I mean, Jack." Maddie said. "He must realize by himself or wait until a girl confesses to him."
"If he does so he'll stay single forever." Jack argued. "Sure, he might eventually meet a girl who will confess instead of resisting the Fenton charm but we must get rid of the monster first."
"But the monsters are being more careful after the Guys in White's failed attack at their world." Maddie replied.
"They must be afraid I'll go Power Ranger on them." Jack theorized and started to sing. "Go go, Jack Fenton!" He then made guitar noises. "Go go, Jack Fenton! Mighty Morphin' Jack Fenton!"
Meanwhile, Danny and Tucker were visiting Sam. "Danny, stop sulking." Sam told him.
"Yeah, you look even more depressed than Sam and you're not even a goth." Tucker added, prompting Sam to glare at him.
"Sorry, it's that Clawdeen and I haven't been on a date for so long." Danny commented and then heard his cell phone. "What a coincidence." He commented and answered the call. "Clawdeen?"
"Danny, our fear squad is going to the Monster Mashionals again." Clawdeen said. "I'm inviting you to watch and you may bring your sister and your friends with you."
"I'm in!" Danny exclaimed.
"I'll send the details later." Clawdeen replied. "Please send me their replies ASAP."
After the conversation ended, Danny told Tucker and Sam. "Monsters or not, I'll gladly watch cheerleaders in action!" Tucker happily said.
"I'm not watching monsters further degrade themselves by lowering themselves by cheerleading." Sam frowned.
"Sam, please, give them a chance." Danny pleaded.
"Alright but don't expect me to like it." Sam replied.
Danny later returned at Fentonworks and told Jazz the good news. "I'm happy for you, little brother, but what're we telling our parents?" Jazz asked.
"I'll say Clawdeen invited me to a cheerleading event, Jazz." Danny answered.
"Remember, Danny." Jazz said. "They know you're dating a monster but think you don't."
"I came back unharmed from our latest date, Jazz." Danny commented. "That must count for something."
"I don't think you'll convince them but okay, little brother." Jazz replied.
Danny and Jazz went to the living room so the former could ask for their parents' permission to attend the cheerleading event. Jack's reaction was something even Maddie didn't expect. "Alright but I'm going with you to meet that Claudine girl." He said.
"What?" Danny asked in shock.
"It's about time your mother and/or I get to know your girlfriend." Jack insisted.
"Dad, is it really necessary?" Danny asked in desperation.
"What?" Jack asked with a malicious smile. "Afraid I'll find out she's a monster?"
"Monsters?" Danny asked in fake shock. "I know ghosts are real but do you really believe other monsters exist?"
Something in Danny's tone didn't go unnoticed by his mother. "Danny, you do know she's a monster, don't you?"
'She can figure that but cannot figure out I'm a half-ghost?' Danny thought. "Yeah, Mom, she's a monster but she's not evil." He said.
"Son, I know being around ghosts and Sam makes one used to scary things but, a monster?" Jack asked.
"They're not that bad, Dad." Danny argued. "And they didn't try to harm me."
"And what about the Medusa-like monster that turned Dash Baxter into a statue?" Jack asked.
"Deuce cannot control his powers without his sunglasses, which Dash took from him." Danny explained.
"Like the comic book mutant?" Jack asked.
"Exactly." Danny replied.
Meanwhile, Clawdeen and her ghoulfriends were discussing the wisdom of inviting Danny to watch the Monster Mashionals. "Seriously?" Cleo asked. "Inviting him to a monster event after what happened last time?"
"It wasn't his fault, Cleo." Clawdeen defended her boyfriend.
"Moan." Ghoulia said.
"Yes, Ghoulia, I know the Monster Mashionals have extra security but I'm still worried." Lagoona Blue stated.
"Danny Phantom attending the Monster Mashionals is definitely something I must add to my blog." Spectra Vondergeist said.
"I trust him." Frankie said.
"Alright but don't say I didn't warn you." Cleo said and huffed.
"Please, let's focus on fearleading practice." Draculaura asked.
Back at Fentonworks, Maddie still was worried about Danny going to a place full of monsters. "I'm going as well." She declared.
"Mads, if the both of us go to that monster meeting, who will protect Amity Park from ghosts who'll take advantage of this?" Jack asked.
"Great question, Dad!" Jazz quickly said. "One of you should stay!"
"Or we could rely on the Guys in White and the Red Huntress." Maddie suggested.
"Mom, I was thinking about having some mother-daughter moment with you while Danny and Dad are away." Jazz said with a pleading expression. "Think of all the ghosts we can hunt together."
"If you catch Danny Phantom, save some ectoplasm for me to analyze!" Jack eagerly asked.
"You can count on us, Jack." Maddie replied while Jazz gave Danny a you-owe-me face.
"Thank you, Mads." Jack said and then turned his attention to Danny. "Son, what're you telling your friends?" He asked his son.
"Tucker and Sam already know I'm dating a monster, Dad." Danny answered. "Clawdeen even invited them as well."
"Son, I might be relatively okay with you going to a cheerleading event for monsters, assuming that's what they're going to do, but do their parents know about the monsters?" Jack sternly asked.
"The monsters call their version 'fearleading' but yes, that's what they're doing, Dad." Danny replied. "And I don't think The Mansons and the Foleys know."
"Then tell your friends not to go without telling the truth to their parents otherwise I will tell them." Jack ordered.
Later on, Danny met his friends to discuss the details. "Don't worry about me, Danny." Sam said. "My parents won't let me go with you because they're afraid I'd try something to steal you from your girlfriend."
"Don't they know we're just friends?" Danny asked and was under the impression Sam muttered "clueless" in response.
"What about you, Tucker?" Sam asked.
"When I told my parents I was going to a cheerleader championship, they became afraid I'd make a spectacle." Tucker answered.
"No surprises there." Sam commented and Danny nodded.
"That means you're going alone, Danny." Tucker commented.
"Worse." Danny replied. "I'm going with my Dad. He knows I'm dating a monster and insisted on going with me for my protection."
"Well, the Monster Mashionals reunites monsters from the whole country so, even if it's for cheerleading, I can't blame him." Sam replied.
"And it's a good thing the two of you aren't going anyway since Dad said he'd warn your parents if you went without them knowing the truth." Danny stated.
"Again, I cannot blame him." Sam commented. "What'll you do if he decides to forbid you from dating monsters?"
"Still having hopes, Sam?" Tucker teasingly asked and Sam elbowed him for that.
"I don't know, Sam." Danny answered.
Time passed, and Danny and Jack went to the cemetery where Clawdeen instructed them to wait for her. "Glad to see you, Danny." Clawdeen Wolf said and then looked at Jack. "You must be Danny's Dad. Nice to meet you, Mr. Fenton. I'm Clawdeen Wolf."
"Time will tell if the feeling is mutual." Jack replied in mistrust.
"Sorry about that, Clawdeen." Danny said.
"It's okay, Danny." Clawdeen replied. "The Monster World also has its share of overprotective parents."
"And I have ways to make monsters regret harming my boy." Jack replied while showing a Fenton Bazooka. "You're not a ghost but I still can make a portal to send you to the Ghost Zone."
Clawdeen gulped. "Okay, now I'm scared." She confessed. "Where in the Ghost Zone can this bazooka send me to?"
"I don't know, I haven't thought about that, and I don't care for as long as it means less monsters spreading evil among humans." Jack answered.
"Dad." Danny pleaded.
"Danny, I don't mind having your father escorting you but at least make him stop with the hate speeches." Clawdeen asked.
"Wolf girl, don't make me sound like a racist." Jack demanded.
"If the shoe fits..." Clawdeen replied. She then took them to the place where the Monster Mashionals were being held. Practically all of Clawdeen's friends introduced themselves but Jack didn't understand Ghoulia. "What did she say?" Jack asked.
"She was just greeting you." Cleo explained. "Being a corpse tends to damage vocal chords so few zombies are capable of talking like non-zombies do."
"Okay, thanks." Jack uneasily said.
"Beware." A familiar voice said. "I mean it. It's not easy to carry all these boxes."
"Hey!" Jack protested. "Aren't you the creep who likes to mess with other people's boxes back in Amity Park?" Jack asked.
"What're you doing here?" Danny asked while readying himself to shoot a ghostly beam at his foe.
"Temporary work." The Box Ghost answered.
"Temporary?" Danny asked in surprise.
"Every year they hire extra help for the Monster Mashionals." The Box Ghost explained. "By the way, does anybody know where these boxes are supposed to be taken to?"
Ghoulia then picked up her iCoffin and typed some buttons. "Moan, moan, moan, moan, moan moan moan." She said.
"Thank you, young lady." The Box Ghost replied and carried the boxes away.
"Did he understand Ghoulia?" Danny asked in amazement.
"Every monster understands zombies, Danny." Spectra replied. "Maybe not the ghosts of normies who aren't dead long enough to learn but other than that it's weird for a monster to be unable to understand zombies." She added.
"Moan." They suddenly heard another zombie say.
Clawdeen then decided to make introductions. Fortunately, Danny already accepted that he had to let the monster world know he's Danny Phantom to have a chance to keep the truth hidden from his parents. "These are my boyfriend Danny Fenton, his father Jack Fenton, and Danny's friend Tucker Foley. Danny, this is Ghoulia's boyfriend Sloman Mortavitch. Slo Mo for short."
"Nice to meet you, Slo Mo." Danny replied and offered his hand for a handshake.
"Moan." Slo Mo replied.
"He said 'Nice to meet you, too, Danny'." Clawdeen said.
"Is 'Danny' part of what you translated from Slo Mo's speech or were you addressing Danny by name?" Jack asked.
"The first one." Clawdeen answered.
"Danny, would you perhaps be acquainted to a ghost who works as a lunch lady and throws a tantrum whenever someone asks for a vegetarian option?" Draculaura asked, making Danny worried.
