That same night, Drew and Charlotte called Angelica to the dinner table sometime after 5:30.
"Angelica!" Charlotte yelled.
Angelica ran downstairs into the kitchen.
"What, Mommy?"
"We have some news for you," Charlotte began.
"What kind of news is it? Good or bad?" Angelica asked.
"Bad," Drew answered.
"You can give me bad news. It's not going to ruin my day."
"Well, Angelica, we got to visit with Aunt Dee Dee and Uncle Stu not too long ago," Charlotte replied.
"Why did you see them for?" Angelica asked.
"We felt like seeing them. Nothing wrong with that," Drew told her.
"Spill it out, Mommy and Daddy."
"Your cousin Tommy is out of school for a while."
"Why?"
"Because he had some accident the other day or two," Charlotte told her.
"What kind of accident was it?"
"Broken leg," Drew answered.
"A broken leg? Since when did he let that happen?"
"The other day or two," Charlotte repeated.
"Do you know how it happened?"
"Stu says Chuckie and Chaz found him in a neighborhood that they didn't know or familiar with. Chuckie and Chaz were nice enough to help Tommy get home."
"Is that the whole story?"
"Have Chuckie tell you. Tommy can't do anything for the meantime," Charlotte replied.
"That's a good thing. Deserves him right."
"ANGELICA! Go back to your room! That's not very nice to say about Tommy."
"Apologize to your mother, Angelica."
"Why would I be sorry for saying something like that about Tommy?"
"He's your cousin, that's why, unless you want to apologize to him yourself instead of us."
"Daddy, I can't apologize to Tommy. He's not here to hear me say that."
"Angelica, you have to apologize. I'm sure Tommy would accept your apology after what you just told us."
"I don't think so. I'll go to my room again after dinner tonight."
"That's fine."
She didn't have anything else to think of what to say, so Angelica headed back upstairs.
"Angelica, we're eating in a few minutes."
"What is it?"
"Fish."
"Okay with me."
Even Angelica didn't like fish, but bothered not to say anything to complain about it. Drew liked it, but she guessed it was his idea to pick out the meal.
On her way upstairs, Angelica saw there wasn't any reason to apologize to Tommy since he wasn't here for the three of them to have this conversation. Angelica knew for sure that the others already knew, but didn't care either way who would share with her about Tommy.
It would be different to see her cousin on the couch and can't do much of anything for a while, even though she's seen it before, but nothing like a broken leg.
"We can go see Tommy on Saturday," Angelica heard Drew say.
"That sounds like a good idea. Then Angelica can apologize, even though Tommy wasn't here to listen to this conversation," Charlotte agreed.
"I'll go call Stu later and see what time would be perfect to stop by. I will mention it to Stu that we will have Angelica apologize to Tommy what she told us."
"I'm sure that's a great idea and he can probably agree to it, Drew."
Angelica heard what Drew and Charlotte were just talking about, but she didn't bother rejoining them to argue with. No way.
Angelica saw there was no reason to apologize to her cousin. Tommy wouldn't be surprised to hear her to what she said just now. If he lived with her, it would have been different. It didn't matter to her either way. Tomorrow he will get to hear about tonight's conversation. Angelica knew Drew and Charlotte will have her do that, whether Tommy was alone or with somebody.
Stu and Drew were brothers, so this was how Angelica was related to Tommy. She didn't care what Dil thought or said about it, but she'll find out sooner or later. Since Dil lives with Tommy, he can see him whenever he wants, but will have to help Tommy while he's trying to get better from the accident she just heard about.
Angelica heard the phone ring, and Charlotte called her to the phone.
"Yes, Mommy?"
"You have a phone call."
"Thank you."
So Angelica went downstairs and took the call from her mother. It was Phil.
"Hi, Angelica."
"Why are you calling me, Phil? I didn't expect any phone calls from anyone, and that includes you," she told Phil.
"I know, but I just called to see if you already heard about Tommy and his broken leg."
"Yes. Mommy and Daddy were just telling me that. Tommy deserves it."
"Why would he deserve a broken leg in a neighborhood he didn't know?"
"I heard Chuckie and his dad took him home."
"They did. Good thing Tommy's doing okay. He's just bored at home."
"Are we done, Phil? I don't have anything else to say to you."
"I guess so. I guessed you would say that anyway."
"And you got it right, Phil. Are you and the others going to be with Tommy tomorrow?"
"It's the weekend, so Chuckie said all of us could go see Tommy, but there's no time limit."
"I guess I'll have to go along with you and see for myself."
"Who told your parents?"
"Uncle Stu and Aunt Dee Dee," Angelica said.
She didn't bother telling Phil what the conversation was about with Drew and Charlotte, and he didn't need to know.
She wasn't too crazy about Phil and his twin sister, Lil very much, but they try to be friendly. Angelica knows it would never work now, or in the future.
Now neither of them had anything else to say, but Angelica had a question.
"I have a question for you," Angelica said.
"What's that?"
"Do you know what time you're getting together with Tommy tomorrow?"
"No. We'll find out tomorrow. Maybe you'll be there before we do."
"You think so?"
"Yes, Angelica, I do. We're not your dumb babies anymore," Phil reminded her.
"I don't need a reminder. I will see you sometime tomorrow at Tommy's."
"See you tomorrow, Angelica."
When Phil hung up, Angelica thought that was a weird conversation that they both had.
Why did he have to call her for? No need to ask Phil that dumb question.
Let's see what happens tomorrow at Tommy's house.
