Hello there, friends! Welcome to the next chapter of Avatar: Immortal Dragon.
Sorry for the long wait, I got a busy with others stories.
It's a bit on the shorter side but I hope you enjoy it.
Now let's quickly get to the reviews.
TheRagFromTheCrag: Please, we all know Lucifer from Lucifer and Genji would be best buddies. Can't argue with that Top 3. Well, Genji's liver keep regenerating, so it can take a lot of punishment. Happy you where surprised by those chapters. Yeah, normally I pay a lot of attention to details like Timelines and such, but I thought it would be fun for Genji.
WearyLegands: Happy you think so.
Now story time.
During the morning, Team Avatar and Suyin's family are sitting at the table for breakfast. Genji was smiling content when he was fed pancakes by Asami, acting every bit like the couple in love that they are.
"Hey, has anyone seen Chief Beifong?" Mako said looking around the room, "Or Korra for that matter?"
"I think she's still sulking in her room." Ichiro said before he drank from his mug.
"Why would Korra be doing that?" Genji said as he poured the content of his pocket flask in his drink, "Did you and her have your first fight!?"
"What? No! I was talking about mom." Ichiro said annoyed, "Korra was just taking a bit longer after having a weird dream."
He then explained to Genji what happened the other night with Lin and Opal as Korra got into the room.
"Morning everyone." Korra said with a wave.
"Good morning, beautiful." Ichiro said as he stood up so the two gave each other a quick morning kiss on the lips.
"They are so cute." Genji said happily with the biggest smile, "Easily the second best couple at this table. Me and Asami being number one, of course."
"Who else but Genami." Asami said, placing a kiss on his cheek.
"...It's more than a bit odd." Suyin said, "Having the girlfriend of my dad being old enough to be my own daughter."
"You'll get used to it." Genji said with a laugh, Asami's kiss mark clearly visible on his cheek, "So what was this dream about, Korra? Was I involved?"
"No... I mean... Sort of?" Korra said as she sat down, "I was on this weird island with other people, and there where those hand contraptions that shot metal and we had to fight to the death while a storm was closing us in. There was a guy who reminded me of you, but he had yellow eyes, long white hair and beard and said something like 'I hate portals'."
"I had a weird dream too." Genji said, "Must be something in the water.", taking a swing from his drink as Wei and Wing run into the room.
"All set for your power disc game, guys?" Suyin said.
While Wei takes a few pieces of fruit from the basket, "Yeah, all set to kick Wei's butt." he said.
"I wanna power disc your face." Wing said before turning to Korra, "You should go play with us."
"I don't think I'd be much competition, since I can't metalbend." Korra said with a laugh.
"Really." Suyin said surprised, "Lin never offered to train you?"
"I guessed I never thought to bring it up because I was learning to airbend, then there was the pro-bending, then I got tied up fighting Equalists, then I started dating her son, got Shashou training." Korra said, "It was a busy few months."
"Well, it's probably for the best. I'm sure Lin would be a horrible teacher." Suyin said, "As the Avatar, you should have mastery over all the elements. I'd be happy to show you the basics."
It was around the afternoon when Genji was training on an obstacle course Suyin had her husband build a couple of years ago. With a blind fold covering his eyes, he waved through the obstacles as he practiced his sword stance.
When he came at the end, he hopped off with a forward flip, landing on his feet. Butting Yamato back in erh sheet, he spoke up, "I know your there, Opal."
"How did you know?" Opal said.
"Shashou senses." he said as he removed his blindfold, "So what can I do for my favorite granddaughter?"
"I'm your only granddaughter." Opal said with a giggle.
"Exactly." he said with a smile, "Is something wrong?"
"I just... I want to ask you something." Opal said a bit nervous, "It might be a bit silly."
"Opal, anything in my power is yours for the asking." he said before he added in a sing-song tone, "You just name it."
"Alright, can you teach me how to fight like a Shashou?" Opal said, "I have heard so many stories and it's a part of my family history..."
"You where serious about that?" Genji said surprised, "Yes, of course! We will start with footwork, this course is perfect for it. A bit more metal than on the one I was trained on."
"Yours had more wood?" she asked.
"Yes, was still a bitch though." Genji said shaking his head, "I had to walk up the hill everyday to get there, and then back up to get back to the temple."
"What?" Opal said confused.
"...Physics weren't inveted yet." Genji said quickly before he began to show her some stances.
"Dragon style is one of power. The desire, will, and drive to achieve victory." Genji explained as he preformed aggressive sword stances, "Tigerdillo is the style of defense. Of persistence and endurance, waiting and listening for the right moment to strike."
His stance took on a heavy stance, his blade angled downwards.
"The Phoenix is the style of freedom. Detached from worldly concerns. Of flexibility, agility and spirituality." he said, "Lion Tortoise style is the of change. Of versatility to turn your blocks and counters into attacks."
"I see, I see." Opal said with a nod as she imitated his stances, "Why are you telling me these things?"
"It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If you take it from only one place, it becomes rigid and stale." Genji said, "Understanding others, the other styles, and it will help you become a well rounded fighter."
"All this talk is sounding like Avatar stuff." Opal said.
"It is the combination of the four elements in one person that makes the Avatar so powerful." Genji pointed out, "But it can make you more powerful, too." he gestured for her to start.
Opal decisively runs into the Shashou tool, rushing to the swinging log. She ran a few feet forward before she collided against one of the swinging logs. Being thrown off balance, she slammed hard against the ground.
"Oh, dear. Oh gorgeous." Genji said in a panic as he quickly ran over to her, "You need to listen. Don't think, act."
Opal scrambles back on her feet, an determined look across her face. She runs back in, narrowly avoiding the first two logs, but colliding into the third one.
"Better!" Genji shouted, "Again."
A few hours later, Opal was sitting on a set of stairs as she wasn't the only Beifong who had joined the Shashou training, Wei and Wing had stopped their power disc game to join in as well. She had a little laugh when her brothers attempted to course at the same time, only to have been knocked out by the first log.
She did felt a sense of pride when she first cleared the training course, and there was something extremely wholesome on how Genji reacted to this fact.
"Hey, lady!" Bolin said, having suddenly appeared, "You really blowing me away with your Shashou movement."
"Why are you acting weird?" Opal said.
"Why are you acting weird?" Bolin repeated.
"I don't like how you're talking to me." Opal said as she stood up, "I'm going to get my grandad."
"Wait, no! Anyone but him!" Bolin said quickly, "Look, I'm sorry. I just get really self-conscious when I know when a girl likes me, and I-I end up looking stupid."
"...Who said I liked you?" Opal said, "Was it Huan?"
"Oh no." Bolin said, a bit embarrased, "But I though... Mako said."
"Just kidding." she said with a giggle.
"There." Bolin said, "That irreverent and trollish behavior, just like Genji."
"You make it sound taking after my favorite granddad is a bad thing." Opal said with a smile, realizing how it came over to him as the boy looks crestfallen, "But, do me a favor and stop trying... Look, don't stop trying. Just stop trying so much. Just be yourself."
"Be myself." Bolin muttered, "Yeah, I guess I can give that a shot."
Bolin and Opal look at each other romantically. Wei and Wing looking on as Genji had a smile on his face that looked rather mixed.
"Are you going to congratulate him, or are you going to murder him?" Wei said, glancing at his granddad, "Because it looks like you might do both."
"Shut up, Wei." Genji said sternly, "And maybe I will."
"Oh, that can be our running gag with grandpa!" Wing said, "Him telling us to shut up."
"Shut up, Wing!" Genji said sternly, "...But yeah, that can be our thing." taking the flask from his pocket as he took a wing.
"Can I have a taste." Wei said.
"No." Genji said, "Alcohol is poison."
"If it's poison, then why do you drink it?" Wing said.
"Because there are things inside of me that I need to kill." Genji said, "How about we get some ice cream?"
Later that day at Suyin's garden, where she stored her collection of rare meteorites on low pedestals.
"These meteorites are perfect for beginning metalbenders." Suyin said as she indicated a particular rock, "The metals have a unique property, making them easier to bend."
Suyin breaks off a piece of the meteorite, which she slowly bends down to her hand, she bends it into a star shape, followed by a diamond.
"Try to focus on the fine pieces of earth within the metal."
"That's amazing!" Korra said before she was given the meteorite. She concentrates for a while, but is not able to do anything with the meteorite.
It was Asami's turn, who takes Suyin's advice, and successfully changes the shape of the meteorite.
"I can't believe it!" Asami said excited, "I'm metalbending!"
"Good job, Asami." Korra said patting her on the shoulder, "You picked that up really, really quick!"
"Congratulations." Suyin said, placing a hand on her shoulder, "You're the first metalbending Avatar."
The ground cracks beneath them and a meteorite falls and breaks, coming down the stars was an angry, panting Lin.
"I know that look." Asami said, "That's how Genji looks when he's angry."
"...When have we ever seen Genji angry?" Korra said confused, "Most of the time he's drunk or high off his ass."
"Su, it's time we talk." Lin said.
"After thirty years, you're finally ready to talk?" Suyin said.
"When we were in Mom's office that day, you could've taken responsibility for what you did." Lin said, "But instead, you stayed quiet and let Mom throw her whole career away."
"Mom didn't throw her career away." Suyin pointed out, "She retired the next year. She was a hero."
"You think she wanted to retire?" Lin growled, "She was so guilt-ridden about what she did to protect you that she didn't feel worthy of her badge."
"Look, I admit that I was not a perfect kid and I've made some mistakes in the past but... Mom and I already talked about this years ago and worked things out." Suyin said, "If you had gotten together with us like we'd asked, you would know that I'm a different person now. I've been a different person for a long time."
"You think that just because you live in a big, fancy house, and have a chef who cooks you fancy food, that you're a different person?" Lin said, "Maybe you could fool everyone else, but you can't fool me. I see right through you. Your just like dad."
"So what if I take after dad?" Suyin said annoyed, "You know what, Lin? You're the one who hasn't changed. You're still a bitter loner who only cares about herself. No wonder Tenzin ended things with you years ago."
Lin bends a rock toward Suyin, which she deflects using her wrist. The two sisters take their fighting stance.
Suyin trips Lin with a fissure, before knocking her off with a meteorite. Lin gets back up and earthbends a staircase, while Suyin metalbends a metal panel. Suyin bends the metal panel toward Lin, which she evades by using a backflip. Lin earthbends many fragments of small rocks to Suyin, who evades the attacks by weaving through.
"S-Should we stop them?" Korra said.
"I think so." Asami said unsure.
"Eh, let them get it out of their system." a sunglasses wearing Genji said, suddenly standing next to Asami, holding a bowl with ice cream and a spoon.
The fight carries on with Lin earthbending toward Suyin, which she dodges with a cartwheel. Baatar, Huan, and the twins run to a pavilion.
"Go Mom!" Wei said as he shoulders Wing aside.
The two of them continue to fight. Lin metalbends Huan's Harmonic Convergence sculpture, which Suyin deflects and smashes it into a metal wall.
"My sculpture!" Huan said alarmed as he dashes over to survey the damage, "Actually, it looks... kinda better now."
Suyin metalbends three metal panels toward Lin, which she deflects. Lin begins to earthbend rocks from beneath Suyin and bends a large boulder toward her. Suyin curls a part of the metal wall to shield herself before rolling it out again, knocking Lin into the pavilion nearby, where she lands roughly on the stairs, grunting.
"You've got it out of your system?" Suyin said.
"Not quite yet!" Lin said angrily as she earthbends a part of the staircase leading to the pavilion, while Suyin earthbends a boulder from the ground.
"That's my girls!" Genji cheered.
The two of them begins to charge at each other, but Opal interfered by airbending both objects to the side.
"What are you two doing?! You're sisters!" Opal said angrily, "Why would you want to hurt each other?"
"Don't blame them, Little Drake." Genji said gesturing with his spoon, "It's the Shashou blood in them. I used to fight all the time with Hanzo, Akali and Kenpachi over the silliest of things."
"Oh, that would explain a lot about me and Wei." Wing said.
Both Suyin and Lin pants in exhaustion, and suddenly, Lin faints and falls to the ground, but Genji drops his ice cream and rushes over to save her head from knocking the ground.
"D-Dad?" Lin said, "You caught me?"
"You doubted that?" Genji said, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine now." Lin said as she closes her eyes, leaning her head against his chest, "I'm glad you saved me."
"Of course." he said as Lin falls asleep, "I'll always will."
The following day, Korra, Ichiro, Mako and Bolin are standing outside of Lin's quarters at Suyin's estate.
"Uhh, whose going to knock?" Korra said, as she pushes Bolin closer to the door.
"No, no, no, no, no, no! Not me!" Bolin protested, wildly waving his hands, "You're the Avatar, why can't you do it?"
"Uhh, I can't." Korra said, trying to think of an excuse, "She's my boyfriends mom. It would just be..."
"Why can't Ichiro do it?" Bolin pointed out.
"Waking my mother up from her sleep? Are you crazy!?" Ichiro said, "I would rather go poke a alligator lion in its sleep."
"Ichiro, she's been asleep for sixteen hours!" Mako pointed out, "So alligators lions, or your mother!?"
"What's the difference?" Ichiro said with a roll of his eyes, "They're both cold-blooded, prehistoric monsters!"
"Excuse me?"
The group turns around slowly to see Lin, in Metal Clan attire, standing in the door opening with her arms crossed.
"I mean the pain of disappointing you would..." Ichiro said, "Bite... aligator... ish... ly."
"Uh huh." Lin said, obviously not believing him.
Chapter 31. A bit of a breather chapter.
