Owen and Teddy walked through the UCLA campus with Leo.

"Mom, Dad," Leo said, "I want to find my birth family. Annie did, Cat knows her birth mom. I know you said my birth mother died but she had to have family."

"The problem is she used a fake name," Owen said, "it took 2 and a half years for us to legally adopt you because they had to look for her family for two years. The name she gave at the hospital was a fake name."

"I was doing some research in the data bases," Leo said, "there's a missing person's report for a Brittney Dickinson and Leon Dickinson from about 6 months before you would have found me. They're from Tacoma."

"What are you thinking," Teddy asked.

"Theres an up to date contact number in the missing kids public data base, Brittney was 15 when she disappeared," Leo said.

"You want to call it," Owen asked.

"I'm thinking about it," Leo said, "Faroke has a few memories and pictures, Annie knows all of her parents, Cat knows her birth mom. Allison kept Everly. I want to know."

"Do you have the profile," Owen asked.

Leo pulled it up on his phone.

Teddy and Owen looked closely at the original photos the picture showed Leo at about 18 months.

"That's Leo," Teddy said, "that's you. It looks like you when you came to the hospital, a little chubbier but it's the same hair and eyes. And the heart condition it mentions, I corrected that when you first came to Grey Sloan. I think we email."

"Email," Leo asked.

"In writing it's less emotional," Teddy replied, "Annie and I started communicating through email."

"We have your birthday wrong which we knew but our estimate is only a week off," Teddy said, "we knew you were about 24 or 25 months when you came in."

"How do we do this," Leo asked, "can you help me?"

"We will," Teddy said, "they'll want to know you're alive and you're safe. That you're loved."

"Can we do it before dinner," Leo asked.

"We can," Owen agreed, "head back to your dorm?"

"Sure," Leo agreed.

"You're a junior," Teddy said, "what's the plan after college?"

"I've started studying for the MCAT," Leo said, "army trauma surgeon like you two."

"Do you want help," Teddy asked, "I helped Annie prep."

"25 years ago," Leo retorted.

"Yes," Teddy agreed, "but still. We'll help."

"I joined a study group," Leo said, "my GPA is my biggest worry."

"If it takes a couple tries it's okay," Owen said, "it was my second round before I got in. I stayed for an extra year in college retook my classes I needed to get my marks up in."

"You didn't go through in 3 years," Leo said.

"That's your mom and sister," Owen said.

"I took 4," Teddy said, "Annie did three which I tried to talk her out of."

"Allison," Leo asked.

"Will do it in her own time," Teddy said, "we will help you if you want it."

"I do," Leo said, "and I need to answer the question about my birth family. I want to know. I just want the information."

"Let's email," Owen said, "it might need a DNA test. Leo you've been with us for 18 years."

"That poor mom," Teddy said, "18 years of wondering now to find out that her daughter is gone. I missed Annie for 19 years but I knew she was safe and thriving."

"Let's do this together," Owen said as they walked into Leo's room and opened his laptop.

Dear Mr and Mrs Dickinson,

My name is Leo Altman-Hunt, I'm a Junior at UCLA and recently one of my classes has been looking at missing children's cases. I believe I may be your grandson. I found the profile for Brittney and Leon Dickinson in the collage data base system. I was adopted when I was two after being brought to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle. My mother gave her name as Betty Nelson before she died from an opioid overdose. Two of the surgeons at the hospital began to foster me as soon as I was found and when no family could be located. The profile mentions that Leon had a heart condition which my mother corrected in surgery before they took me in. They fostered me for two years before the state allowed them to adopt me. My parents said there was a country wide search for my birth family before the adoption was allowed to proceed.

I'm pre med at UCLA and plan on following my parents into the military as a trauma surgeon. I have two sisters, one older and one younger. I'm closer to my younger sister but my older sister is cool, she's actually the first family member I met, she was my surgical resident when I was brought to Grey Sloan.

I'm sitting with my parents now and they would like to write to you as well. My parents were my birth mother's surgeons when she came in and still remember that day.

We understand that this is a shock for you and we may not be related but wanted to reach out and let you know that I am safe, healthy, loved and very much alive. The profile says that I disappeared from Tacoma. We are going to contact the national center for missing children and submit a DNA sample and hopefully it matches anything on file for Brittney and Leon.

My parents and I would like to meet you and talk to you.

Sincerely,

Leo Atlman-Hunt, Teddy Altman and Owen Hunt

"Now what," Leo asked.

"We wait," Owen said, "you CC'd us?"

"I did," Leo said, "mom what about Annie's birth dad?"

"His name is Steven," Teddy replied, "we broke up when I was pregnant with her. He's never seen her, he wasn't there when she was born."

"You said he was a jerk," Leo said.

"He is," Teddy said, "but he's reached out in the last couple weeks and apologised. I want nothing to do with him. I made my peace with it a long time ago but he wants to meet Annie. She's refusing and I won't push her. She said she doesn't need to or want to."

"What if they don't want to know me," Leo asked, "she wanted drugs over me."

"You tried," Teddy said, "Annie has talked about the same thing the first time she emailed me. That she wasn't sure if I would call or email back. The Dickinsons will be shocked it's been 18 years. No matter what they do we love you. We want you."

"You are our son," Owen said, "you have been our son from the day we met you. You are our son."

"If I'm wrong," Leo asked.

"Then you're wrong," Teddy said, "but we'll be there. And you're sending your DNA sample to the lab. They might be able to match it. But it's an 18 year old cold case we don't know. There were DNA samples taken when you were little. There was an investigation but you were Leo Nelson, they were looking for Nelson. It was discovered that your birth mom used a fake ID so we really don't know Leo. It's a shot but it's a long shot. I don't want you to get your hopes up."

"I have to try," Leo said.

"You do," Teddy agreed.

"Mom if Annie hadn't called you," Leo asked.

"I was going to send a letter about six months after her birthday care of Leslie and Dan telling her that I had always loved her and always would. I had written it just after she was born with all my hopes and dreams for her and I wanted her to have it. If something had happened to me in the army dad would have sent it so Annie would know that I loved her."

"Do you think they loved me," Leo asked.

"I'm sure they do," Teddy said.

Nisha knocked on Allison's outside door.

"Hey," Allison said, "thanks for being with her tonight."

"I'm happy to," Nisha said, "I need some practice with little ones."

Allison looked puzzled.

"We're just telling people," Nisha said, "we're a bit surprised by it but I'm 12 weeks."

Allison hugged her older cousin, "congratulations! When?"

"End of March," Nisha said.

"I have a ton of baby stuff if you want to look at it," Allison said, "thing she's out grown."

"I'd appreciate it," Nisha agreed, "and they can play together."

"Of course," Allison smiled, "Ev needs close in age cousins. How's Auntie Megan with all this? Why didn't you say anything at family dinner last night?"

"Megan is ecstatic to be a grandma, she's known for a few weeks. I think she's been jealous of your mom and I wanted to wait until the 12 week scan today. I had a misscarriage at 8 weeks in April so I wanted to be cautious."

"Nisha I'm sorry and there we were celebrating Ev's birthday in May," Allison said.

"I wanted to celebrate her," Nisha smiled, "I love her. Her party, spending time with her helped me. I want to babysit tonight so you can go to your class."

"Thank you," Allison smiled, "she goes to bed at 7:30. So it's not a ton of time with her."

"So I'll finish her dinner with her and put her to bed," Nisha asked.

"She's eaten we just finished eating, she'll need the bottle in the fridge before bed, it's my milk so warm it up she hates it cold, it's bath around 7, bottle and story, then tuck her in and sing to her. She doesn't get a blanket yet but I laid out her jammies on the counter in the bathroom with a clean diaper."

"Does she have a stuffed animal or a doll," Nisha asked.

"Her bunny is in her crib already," Allison said.

"If she won't go to sleep," Nisha asked.

"Then her legs hurt and have gotten too tight again. I've done 4 sets of her physio with her today so she should be okay," Allison said, "but if she's inconsolable there's baby and kids tylenol in the bathroom. She gets a dose, she's 20 pounds so check the box for the dose. Massaging her legs also works well and she likes it."

"Are they doing anything with her legs," Nisha asked.

"They want to give her botox injections but I'm not sure," Allison said, "once we start we have to continue."

"If it helps her," Nisha said.

"Sha," Everly yelled finally noticing Nisha.

"Hello princess," Nisha said on the chair next to Ev's high chair, "is that a yummy dinner? What did mommy make?"

"Icken," Everly said waving a piece of chicken in the air.

"Just chicken, rice and veggies," Allison said, "her rice is on the floor. She decided to throw it not eat it. But she ate all her carrots, peppers and cucumbers before she touched her meat. I'll do the floor and the dishes when I get home. You have to be exhausted. Thats not a fun phase, I was still miserable."

"I knew with you weeks before you told us," Nisha said, "you struggled. I'm okay."

"Not throwing up all day every day," Allison asked.

"No," Nisha said, "mornings for a couple weeks but I'm okay now. I know they medicated you. You could have talked to me sooner."

"I just wanted mom and Annie," Allison said.

"I've talked to my mom a lot," Nisha said, "Megan is supportive but she's never been there."

"I'm happy to talk and commiserate," Allison said, "have you talked to Annie?"

"When we see them," Nisha said, "you're going to be late for class. Talk after? I brought the stuff to make the gingerbread cake you like do you mind?"

"Are you okay to do it," Allison asked, "I love your gingerbread ones."

"They'll be ready when you get back and we can talk then," Nisha smiled, "your class is 7-9?"

"It is,' Allison replied.

"Go this little one and I will have fun and we can talk later," Nisha said.

"Thanks so much Nisha," Allison smiled.

Allison grabbed her coat and backpack and walked out the door.

"Let's finish your dinner missy," Nisha said, "do you want some rice. It looks like mommy has some in the pot."

"No," Everly said, as Nisha offered her a scoop of rice.

"Just a taste," Nisha said.

"No," Everly said pushing the spoon away.

Nisha shook her head, "do you want your cucumbers?"

"Iken," Everly said.

"We'll finish your chicken then we should play," Nisha said.

Once Everly finished her dinner Nisha picked her up and carried her out to the back yard putting her in her swing on the old swing set. Everly giggled as Nisha pushed the swing. Nisha was looking forward to doing this with their own kids, they were still renting the cottage from Annie and Josh and there was a small swing set in the backyard her baby would play on.

Nisha gave Everly her bath then snuggled with her on the couch for her bottle and to read Goodnight Moon. She carried her to the crib and tucked her in singing the lullabies she had been sung as a child.

With the baby asleep she finished tidying the kitchen and poured the container of cake batter into a baking pan.

Allison let herself in after her class, "it smells good in here."

"It's almost done," Nisha smiled, "how was your class?"

"Good it was French tonight," Allison said, "it's my minor. How was she?"

"Happy and went down no problem," Nisha said, "can I ask you a couple questions?"

"Always," Allison said, "tea? I have a bunch of decaf I haven't really gone back to caffeine after Ev was born. I feel better without it."

"Tea would be good," Nisha said.

Allison made tea as Nisha took the gingerbread cake from the oven.

"How did you figure out her last name," Nisha asked when they were sitting on the couch.

"We used Ash's because mine is hyphenated," Allison said.

"Fraoke's is but mine isn't," Nisha said, "I want the baby to have both of our names."

"Her middle name Grace is the family name for my family," Allison said, "and we considered Evelyn but decided on Everly because he wanted Emily. You're supposed to get married in December will you change your name?"

"No," Nisha said.

"Will you still do your wedding," Allison asked.

"We are," Nisha said, "I'm glad we knew before I bought my dress. But it's a civil ceremony no religious part. That's not us."

"We go sometimes to appease his dad but thats it," Allison admitted, "I don't know what I believe right now. Opa says one thing Mark says another. And how much I prayed for Ev to be safe and healthy and with all her needs."

"She's doing okay," Nisha said, "she was pretty chatty and happy. She loves her bath and turned the pages of the book with me for her story."

"What did she pick today," Allison asked.

"Good night moon," Nisha said, "so best part of being a mom?"

"Just one," Allison asked.

"Parts," Nisha asked.

"That moment when she reaches for me and calls mama or the giggle when we're playing, slow morning snuggles when I bring her into our bed to cuddle and wake up slowly," Allison smiled, "watching her discover new things."

"Hardest," Nisha asked.

"Seeing her in pain," Allison said, "knowing she's hurting and I can't fix it. I can fix the dirty diaper or the floor burn on her knees when she's dragged herself across the floor with just her hands."

"I noticed a couple rub marks from her braces," Nisha said, "I put the baby lotion that was on her change table on them."

"We get new ones on Wednesday those ones are a bit small," Allison said, "she grew faster then we expected. They measured new ones on Thursday."

"Babies in this family," Nisha asked, "how do others react?"

"Annie loves them but is the worst about petting your bump," Allison said, "she will be a total baby thief at any family event. My mom loves kids but is better once their out of the new born phase. My dad is the best with Ev he's her favourite. Leo was weird about Ev until he met her. Josh doesn't show much emotion but he's good with the babies. Josh got protective of me. Nana once you tell her will start knitting. How many times has Megan squished you?"

"Too many but she does that every time she sees me anyway," Nisha said, "she's already petting my stomach."

"But there's not really anything there yet, I noticed and needed new pants around 13 or 14 but only my mom, sister and I noticed," Allison said, "you said you knew before I told you how?"

"I didn't know for sure until Thanksgiving," Nisha said, "but Allison I'm an OB I noticed changes in your body, you weren't as active with the other kids and letting Heather climb on you."

"I only survived because I had Asher, my parents and Annie," Allison said, "it was hard I didn't understand it. You understand."

"The science and the process it's what I do professionally but this is different," Nisha said, "and I'm seeing Carina differently."

"She's nice and she always talked to me and not mom even if mom asked the question," Allison said.

"Your mom went with you," Nisha asked.

"She did," Allison said, "I needed her."

"I need my mom two," Nisha said, "and I'm 28."

"Are you excited," Allison asked.

"I am," Nisha said, "we knew we wanted kids when we first got together. My dad is having a hard time with me not being married before I got pregnant but."

"We weren't even dating," Allison said, "so better than me and you're both doctors. You're done with your residency aren't you?"

"In February," Nisha said, "so almost."

"Fellowship," Allison asked.

"Not right away," Nisha said, "Faroke do his plastics is more important and I don't need one as an OB GYN. I might do something later with Dr Robbins around fetal surgery but not now. I need to be with our baby more than a fellowship."

"Annie and Josh did it," Allison said.

"As surgeons for my field it's not as important," Nisha said, "and Annie is insane. Are you going to come scrub in again soon?"

"When Asher comes home," Allison said, "I'm overwhelmed right now being a single mom. I miss him."

"Is he the one," Nisha asked.

"I think so," Allison said, "we live together."

"If it wasn't for Ev," Nisha asked, "would you still date him?"

"Yes," Allison said, "he makes me feel safe and he makes me laugh. Things are just comfortable with him."

"But do you love him," Nisha said, "the man that he is."

"Yes," Allison said, "I miss him. It took me a week to be able to fall asleep with out him."

"Are you happy," Nisha asked.

"I am," Allison said.

They were interrupted by Everly crying.

Allison walked into Ev's room and picked the baby up, "shh baby you're okay. Do your legs hurt?"

Everly kept crying. Allison held her close.

"Do you want the tylenol," Nisha asked.

"Please," Allison said, "she's 20 pounds now. She's getting big."

"She's gorgeous she looks like her mama," Nisha smiled, "those green eyes. You, your mom, your sister, Ellie, Henry, Everly. That's such a unique green."

"Nisha is going to get your medicine baby," Allison said, "then we'll have a cuddle."

Nisha brought Allison the medicine already measured, "do you need anything else?"

"No thanks," Allison said, "she'll just need her legs massaged and to be cuddled."

"Can I help," Nisha offered.

"I'm good," Allison said, "it's a couple times a week."

"Do you mind if I go," Nisha asked, "Faroke should be home soon."

"Not at all," Allison said, "thank you so much for tonight, babysitting and making cake and our chat."

"I enjoyed it," Nisha said, "I don't get enough time with you. We should hang out more."

"We will," Allison said, "and congratulations again I'm really happy for you."

"Thank you," Nisha smiled, "good night."

"Good night,' Allison replied.
