"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
"I think so Brain, but who wants to see Snow White and the Seven Samurai?"
- Pinky and the Brain
The cold air made Snow White's breath visible as she ran through the Enchanted Forest. Her cloak kept her warm but the young woman still shivered from the winter nights. It did not worry Snow White. She did not plan to stay any longer.
Once upon a time, Snow White had been a princess, loved by her father, King Leopold, and her subjects. Her mother passed when she was young, but her father soon remarried to a woman named Regina.
Snow almost stopped her walk. Regina. She was the one who killed her father and forced Snow into hiding, putting bounties on her head and having patrols look for her. Why Regina would go to such great lengths to kill her, Snow did not know. All Snow knew was that she needed to survive.
The flapping of wings caught Snow's attention and she found a blue light slowly hovering from the treetops. The light came closer, revealing the small form of a fairy in a blue dress. Snow recognized the fairy very well. The Blue Fairy,
Snow lowered her hood and let her black hair fall on her shoulders. "You made it," she said with a small smile.
"Yes, but it's very dangerous for you to call me now," the Blue Fairy said solemnly as her wings kept afloat in front of Snow. "You know you're not out of the roads and Regina is still after you."
"I know, but this is important," Snow told her with urgency. "I'm staying a village not too far from us right now."
"Yes I know," the Blue Fairy stated.
"If you know, then you know Regina's men has found it," she said. "It won't be long before Regina's told and then we know what will happen."
"Then you must run away."
Snow's patience left her. "No, not this time! We both know what happened to the last village and I won't let it happen again!" She stopped to silently add, "But I can't do it alone."
The Blue Fairy was silent for many moments, pondering about Snow's position. Then she finally said, "Very well. I believe I can help."
Snow glanced at the fairy with hope in her eyes. "Really? How?"
"You will see," and with the wave of her magic wand, the Blue Fairy cast her spell.
Tenchi Masaki believed his life was already beyond normal. His school life and simple chores were interrupted by six bizarre circumstances in the form of girls crazy for him. Ever since meeting those girls, Tenchi's life was never the same. Demon space pirates, alien princesses, living ships–Tenchi had seen it all... or at least, he thought he did.
Originally, Tenchi was in his grandfather's Shinto shrine. As usual, he was caught in the middle of the girls vying for his affection, mainly between the space pirate Ryoko and Princess Ayeka. It seemed like a normal day. Well, normal for him anyhow.
Suddenly, everything was gone. The shrine, his grandfather, and the girls disappeared into a white void. Then darkness.
He thought it would last a while, but a man's voice, one with many years of age, spoke, "Hello there." The young teenager opened and found an older face over his with white hair and a beard.
"GAH!" Tenchi quickly crawled away from the old man.
Now at a distance, Tenchi saw the old man covered in a long brown robe and a tunic underneath. The man looked like he was Caucasian, probably British from the accent. "Don't be afraid," the man said gently, whilst sitting on the grass. "I'm not here to hurt you."
A hint of truth in the man's voice brought a calming effect, and Tenchi slowly breathed in and out. "Where am I? What is this place?" Tenchi asked before looking around. The forest certainly wasn't anything like the ones back home. No, the trees were far taller and older.
The man looked around before answering, "I'm afraid I don't know. I myself am lost in this area, so I was walking." He looked back at Tenchi. "Then, I found you here."
Tenchi frowned at that. He had been plucked from his home and put right in the putting of a forest. 'Just normal, I guess,' he thought to himself.
Glancing back to the stranger, Tenchi noticed that on the man's belt was a strange cylinder. It reminded Tenchi of his own weapon, the Tenchi Sword. Speaking of which, where was it?
A small hilt brushed against his chin and he looked down to the hilt of his weapon jutting from his gi. At least that was one good thing.
"What is your name?"
He blinked his eyes momentarily. "Tenchi Masaki."
"Well, Tenchi..." the old man began as he stood. "I can't say where we are, whatever this place is. We have a long walk ahead if we're going to find answers."
Tenchi stared at the old man taking his leave through the forest. Tenchi called out, "Wait, who are you?"
The old man stopped and gave Tenchi a smile. "Ben. Ben Kenobi."
"Just where the hell am I?!"
The shout rang through the forest, sending every bird and critter away. It did little to help a very, very upset Mugen who stomped on bare ground with no answers. The last thing he remembered was traveling with that broad and glasses-wearing swordsman. That was before the bright light and his sudden displacement.
He drew his sword form his back and slashed away a branch in his way, grumbling as he did. He had been walking through the cursed forest for almost an hour. No sake, no one to fight, and no women in that time, and that alone irked him. Mugen would figure out where he was and who brought him here.
"When I do, I'm going to give him hell!" and Mugen swung his sword at another tree...
Long rabbit ears slightly perked up as a rabbit samurai awoke to a distant shink. He slowly stood, wiping away dirt and grass on his kimino and white fur before gazing around him. "Strange, I don't remember this part of the Battle Nexus," he thought aloud, stroking his whiskers with a free paw.
Miyamoto Usagi was no stranger to the concept of the Multiverse. The Battle Nexus was a junction point that connected all the worlds together and where the greatest fighters from all over to join in the grand tournament. He traveled from his old realm of an animal-ruled Japan to participate, and soon came to know four mutant ninja turtles and their rat mentor and help them with political upheaval.
Slowly and carefully, Usagi trailed down the forest with his arms inside his kimono. He traveled down his path for several minutes, though it felt more like hours.
There was an air about the place that brought unease to the ronin. Ancient magic radiated from the trees, the grass, and even the snow. Sure, it was nothing like his own world, but it was magic akin to what he noticed in the Battle Nexus tournament.
Usagi stopped immediately. His arms slowly slid out of his kimono, and he rested a hand on his katana. His long ears perked up, picking up the sound of footsteps creeping nearby. Whoever this person was, they were fast. And they were getting closer, and closer, and closer. Grabbing the longer sword of his daisho, Usagi drew it from its sheath just as a voice spoke.
"Um, excuse me? I hope you don't mind, but..."
CLANG!
Usagi's eyes narrowed at the crossed metal blades and passed that. Beyond the intersecting katanas, Usagi's eyes found a human dressed in a white kimono and sandals. The human's own dark hair was tied into a pony tail, exactly like a samurai or a noble lord would.
The mystery swordsman flicked his wrists, snapping his sword away and Usagi from his thoughts. The human backed away and kept his sword at bay. Usagi did so in kind, raising his sword right aside his whiskers. The two samurai kept their eyes on each other, one studying the other for whoever would make the first move.
The man broke the silence with wry humor. "I see even good manners are foreign to people here."
Realizing his error, Usagi lowered his katana. "I apologize. I thought you were going to attack me," he said.
"It's no trouble," the human said. He lowered his own weapon as well and asked, "What sort of creature are you?"
"I am a rabbit, and I know you're human, but I'm afraid I don't know your name."
"You may call me Jack. And you?" the human, Jack, answered and sheathed his katana.
The rabbit followed suit. "Miyamoto Usagi," he said before glancing around. "I hope you wouldn't know where we are."
Jack glanced around, too. "I was actually wondering the same. I was traveling when there was this bright light."
"Was it blue?"
Jack blinked. "Yes... Do you know what it was?"
"No," Usagi said, "but I have experience in inter-dimensional travel. Whatever brought us, it is unlike anything I've seen."
"Perhaps, it brought us here for a reason." Once again, Jack glanced around, this time at the forest. "There's something strange about this place."
"Then, we should leave. We may find something if we start searching." Usagi slid his furry arms into his kimono. "It's a long walk, though."
Jack smiled. "Do not worry. A walk would do some good."
In another part of the forest, a man lied on the floor, tossing and turning in his sleep. Voices called to him in dreams; some were hopeful and bright while others were demons dragging him to the darkest parts of his mind. They kept calling, growing louder with ever second.
Where are you going?
Come back to us!
You can't run, coward!
Wake up!
Finally, a pair of eyes snapped opened. The first thing they saw was the large height of trees stretching into a sky without a sun. It was dark with the stars glistening far above. The stranger blinked his eyes in confusion. How long was he asleep?
With a slight groan, he rolled on his side. The feel of grass and dirt brushed against this dark hair and sideburns, and he could the feel a stillness in the cool air. He sniffed a bit, expecting to find a coolness only to smell wood, fire, and... roasted meat?
Silently, he turned his head to see an animal leg resting over a small fire. Another figure sat next to it, dressed in a reddish-pink gi and white hakama pants. A long braid of scarlet hair hung behind the stranger.
Finally, the figure turned his head over, revealing a cross-shaped scar on his left cheek. "Oro?" he said, his violet eyes blinking in confusion before he smiled. "Ah, I was wondering when you would wake up, Logan-san!"
Logan groaned and sat up. The yellow uniform he wore was a little dirtied but that was to be expected when sleeping in the dirt. "Something smells," he said, glancing to the cooked meat and took a sniff. "Is that deer?"
"Hai, you were out for most of the day, so I hunted for some food. I found a good catch, de gozaru."
Logan said nothing. 'Most of the day?' His dreams really did not want to leave him alone...
Pushing the thought aside, Logan turned to the deer leg. The scent filled his nose, and his mouth almost watered. There was no point in leaving it alone, so Logan scooted over to the fire and clenched a fist.
A trio of adamantium claws popped out of his hand and ripped a piece of meat away from the deer thigh. He sniffed again before digging in, letting his heightened senses of smell and taste enjoy the wonderful texture and softness of his meal. "Not bad," Logan commented after a few bites.
"Arigato," his companion said before eating his own piece.
As he ate, Logan recalled what happened for the past several hours. His arrival in this strange land was nothing new. He knew about other universes and even traveled to a couple. However, the land he arrived in was strange. The smell and the very air was unnatural, and why he was brought here, he didn't know. It wasn't long before Logan found the red-haired man, another stranger to this forest. The two strangers were quick to join together and helped each other.
Logan glanced at his companion. He was rather petite, but Logan knew better than to underestimate him, especially when the man had the faint smell of blood. Logan did not bother to pry, so not to risk a friend. Besides, he had his own ghosts to worry about. There were other questions he had, though.
Slowly, Logan set aside his piece of meat. "So, Kenshin," he began, "did you find anything?"
Kenshin looked up from his meal, which was now a piece of bone, and shook his head. "I'm afraid not, de gozaru," he said in constant polite and honorifics tone, which Logan felt was odd, along with the constant 'de gozaru.' The term was old, and was unfamiliar than what Logan was used to hearing. "However... there's a strange feeling about this place."
Logan nodded. "I've notice it, too. Something smells off."
"Well," Kenshin yawned, "we won't find any answers tonight, de gozaru. We can start in the morning."
"I'll take watch," offered Logan, who already was awake.
Kenshin gave a grateful nod and replaced his finished bone of his meal with his katana. Logan eyed the weapon, still kept in its sheath, as its owner lied on his side with his back away from the fire. Logan decided not to worry if his companion was asleep or not, so he dug in the cooked meat some more. This would take a while, so he might as well get comfortable.
AN: So that was my idea. It had been some time since I wrote at all because I've been a little busy. Sorry about that.
Anyway, the idea is something I've had for a while, and I thought it might be interesting. As for whom I've chosen and why, here it is:
Snow White (Once Upon a Time) – I haven't seen the show in two years, but I thought Snow White was an interesting character in Once Upon Time. She's active, funny, and does a lot more in the show than her movie counterpart.
Ben Kenobi (Star Wars, Kambei) – Since Jedi are just samurai in space, he counts. He's very experienced in battles, making him the leader of the heroes. And this is Old Ben from the OT.
Tenchi Masaki (Tenchi Muyo, Katsushiro) – young and inexperienced. This is when Tenchi is starting out his sword skills. He learns more under Ben and takes a huge role in the group.
Samurai Jack (Samurai Jack, Gorobei) – He's skilled in many disciplines, including archery. A good fighter and strategist, perfect to be second-in-command.
Kenshin Himura (Rurouni Kenshin, Shichiroji) – don't know why. I just thought it would work since both of them fought in wars.
Wolverine (X-Men, Heihachi) – this was at random, to be honest. However, he is a contrast to Heihachi's good nature and polite persona, and he is an actual samurai in the Marvel comics.
Miyamto Usagi (Usagi Yojimbo, Kyuzo) – both are known to be serious and very skilled.
Mugen (Samurai Champloo, Kikuchiyo) – both of them are wild and hot headed.
Please, let me know what your thoughts are. Did you like it? Yes, no? Why? I'd like to know.
Raika out.
