April 3, 2074…

"Please, somebody help!"

The cry was loud for Lyra to hear enough to catch her attention and stare down. With her enhanced vision goggles, the woman in the dark alley below was clear for her to see too; dressed in simple clothes, back pressed against the wall behind her, and hands hugging the pearly purse close to protect it. She had been cornered, specifically by the three thugs approaching her. A typical crime for a typical hero to come swooping in and save the day.

Scraping her sneakers' soles on the rooftop, Lyra readied herself. It had been a while since tried using a portal but she still brought her hands an inch apart. The space in between flashed red from the coalescing ball, and once tossed to the ground, it pooled at Lyra's feet and disappeared once she fell through it.

The ground of the alley she had seen from above was directly under her feet. She stepped onto it, her portal disappearing behind her, and tiptoed up to the unsuspecting thugs and their prey. After adjusting her big, red scarf and pulling up the hood of her black jacket, she snuck behind the nearest thug. Poking by the thug's ear, Lyra whispered, "Psst. What are you doing?"

"Just trying to make money," the thug in question said gruffly.

"Ah. That's nice-wooh!"

Lyra's modified voice fell with her, right through the new portal she summoned under her feet. After avoiding a roundhouse kick, she plopped down at the alley's entrance, her hands dispersing the portal and resting on her hips. "Now, that's not nice," she chastised the three thugs glaring at her from the alley's other end. "Didn't you ever learned not to hit a lady? Or rob them?"

The central thug, a lady in a gray suit, growled, "Get her!"

The other two, two men in similar suits, charged forward. Smiling behind her scarf, Lyra took a deep breath in and called, "Oh, honeeeeey!"

A growl answered Lyra as it zoomed past her and pounced on the unsuspecting thug in the front. The other two stopped their charge and stared at the large, red cat pinning their comrade down to the ground and baring sharp fangs at him. In the trio's shock, they were unaware of Lyra until she said to her pet, over the pinned man's cracked cries, "Now, now, do play nice! You don't want to damage him like your last chew toy."

The comment drew the ire of the other two thugs. Of them, the other man charged past the red cat and his struggling partner. The minute he swung his punch, Lyra tossed another portal in front. The punch went in and struck the hard wall on the side, earning a resounding crack.

"Yeow!" the big lug cried, pulling his arm back to nurse it.

He had no time for that, not when Lyra gave him a roundhouse kick to the face. If the other woman hadn't charged, Lyra would've seen the large man stumble back and bonk his head against the same wall where his punch had struck. Sadly, not so because of a fist crackling with electricity.

Moving to the side, Lyra dodged said fist belonging to its feminine owner. Lyra's eyes widened at the literal sparks flying by her face before she recognized the metal glove they came out. The same hand pulled back for another strike, one which Lyra readied herself for.

She raised her hands together, just keeping enough space in between to catch the attack. She didn't catch in her hands though. Instead, she imagined the tall man coming at her side and focused on him to summon another portal. The milliseconds of hoping for one seemed painfully long while the electrifying gauntlet came at her.

In 2.5 seconds, the portal appeared between Lyra's hands and caught the attack.

Electrical energy came out the other portal and struck the big man on his chest. "Gak-urk-ow!" he cried.

The gauntlet-wearing woman gasped at the sight. "Ah, c-!" She began, but Lyra cut her off with a kick to the stomach.

The woman, her arm safely pulled out of the portal, skidded back in time to find her thug collapsing on the ground, unconscious. Then, she looked to Lyra who breathed in relief with a "Whew, close one!"

Glaring daggers, the woman drew her gauntlet back. It sparked to life, and she would charged it with as much power as it would allow. Within minutes, the gauntlet would be ready for another, deadlier attack and then-

"Ah, no you don't!" Lyra proclaimed and willed another portal into being.

This one appeared behind the woman thug. Her gauntlet went through it and came out the other end… right in front of her, gauntlet crackling with power.

"Kyaaa!" the woman thug screamed, struck by her own attack.

A few seconds later, the woman was the second criminal knocked out on the ground with smoke coming off her. "Oooh, that's gonna hurt," Lyra winced at the sight. A quick scry turned her eyes away to see her abnormal cat pushed off to the side. "Oh, right!" she proclaimed.

As the last thug was about to get on his feet, Lyra threw one last portal under him. He barely made a step before he dropped through one portal below. Then, he came out of another portal above, and he continued to fall back into the portal he first fell through-

-again-

-and again-

-and again-

"Gaaah!" screamed the man who fell through one portal and into another in a continuous loop. "Make-it-stop-now!"

An amused Lyra held her ear to him. "What?! I didn't catch that!"

"Pleeeeeeeasse!" the constantly falling criminal cried. "Please-stop-!"

With a wave of her, Lyra gave the man what he wished. The criminal was free from his punishment and fell face-first into hard concrete with a loud thud. "Uh…" he groaned into the ground.

The victorious Lyra stood proudly over the downed criminals. "Now be good, children. The cops will pick you up soon, so you be on your best behavior," she chided them and waggled her finger at each.

A gasp reminded Lyra of the innocent at the alley's deep end. "Oh!" Lyra's eyes perked at the would've-been-mugged woman, "They shouldn't bother you now. I'd say you should get going when you can."

The woman in question nodded, carefully tiptoeing around the unconscious bodies sparing a glance at the now-docile feline. She then looked to Lyra once she reached the alley's entrance. "Thanks," she smiled then parted with her finger to her ear. "Hello- nine-one-one? I have to report something..."

With that, Lyra turned to the criminals lying, specifically to the metal gauntlet that almost shocked her. "Probably should take that," she said and strode over to the woman wearing the gauntlet.

The minute her hands fell on the gauntlet, the woman wearing it stirred. She barely rose her face off to glare up at Lyra in a daze, and her voice slurred, "Whaaa… wha are ya... a Kamen Rider?"

Lyra's smiled turned upside-down behind her scarf. "Not anymore," she whispered quietly and took the gauntlet off the other woman's hand.

At that, the criminal fell back unconscious along with her colleagues. Lyra rose, pocketed the gauntlet in her jacket, and turned away. She didn't leave the alley through its only entrance. Instead, she summoned one more portal and turned to her cat. "Come on, girl," Lyra whistled.

The red cat following her, Lyra stepped through the portal that vanished behind her. She was back where she was, on the rooftop at the beginning, and trailed away to her original path with her cat in tow. She didn't worry about the criminals that much. The police could handle the rest. The gauntlet would return to its owner, eventually.

For now, Lyra had someplace else to be.

AN: This is a little continuation of the last entry, following up on the prologue for my OC Rider story. This bit centers on one of the possible main characters, named after another pseudonym of my fellow fanfic writer, Kamen Rider Lynx. Hopefully, I can delve more into this story and post the story. In the meantime, I hope this little bit gives you a bit of fun.

Raika out.

P.S. I understand including my old OC, KR Nova, makes some peoples' eyes roll. Don't worry. He's not the main focus of the story, and he'll get what he deserve (if I ever publish the story that is, and that probably won't be for several months).
