"Mendoza!" shouted an angry voice from outside the office. "Mendoza, damn it, where are you?"
"DeSoto's in a 'good' mood again today, isn't he?" sighed one of the soldiers, turning to his colleague standing next to him. "Where's the sergeant?"
"In the tavern, where else? You know how much he likes Senorita Escalante's food. And he's always hungry."
His interlocutor laughed out loudly. "That's probably true. But I don't feel much better today. After all, we've been out all day trying to catch that devil of a horse."
"And in vain," sighed the other soldier. "That horse is faster than the wind."
"Or as fast and dangerous as a tornado. No wonder they nicknamed the stallion 'Toronado.'"
"And our alcalde really wants the horse."
"Oh yes. He's obsessed with capturing the animal."
"I don't think that's wise. The horse is much too wild to be tamed."
"Did you see Toronado's eyes when we came close to him three days ago? They were staring at us angrily. And far too smart for a horse. I tell you, that's the devil in horse form."
"Nonsense. You just imagined it."
"Believe what you want. The fact is, nobody knows where the horse came from all of a sudden."
"Probably escaped somewhere, I don't know."
DeSoto's angry voice was heard again.
"Come on, let's get Mendoza quickly before the Alcalde takes out his anger on us again. Let the sergeant take the rap for this."
His interlocutor laughed briefly before leaving with the other soldier in the direction of the tavern.

A/N:
I couldn't resist giving DeSoto another reason to "like Zorro so much". I also like the idea of Toronado being known beforehand as the mysterious horse ridden later by the mysterious masked bandit.
