Chapter 28

After Amanda had left Billy's office, Lee, incredulous at what had just occurred, asked Billy, "What the hell just happened, and what do I do about it?"

Billy, with a gesture, answered, "Sit down, Scarecrow."

Lee deadpanned from the couch,"I am sitting!"

Billy, a bit more gruffly, pointed to the chair across from his desk stating tiredly,"Get over here!"

As Lee sighed, but did what Billy asked, he replied from the chair, "Better?"

Billy put up a hand commenting, "Alright, Smart Aleck! Look...It would seem that you and Amanda are in the same spot Jeannie and I were in years ago when we realized we wanted a future together."

Lee answered, "Yeah, except Jeannie didn't have a ready made family. You had it easy-"

Billy put up a hand, responding, "Ho-Hold on! You think what Jeannie and I went through was easy?"

Lee shrugged, commenting, "Sure...You're still together, and you wound up having two kids in spite of everything..."

Billy shook his head answering, "No! We almost didn't get together is the point I'm trying to make here!"

Lee gazed at Billy bewilderedly, querying, "Really? You never told me about that before...So, what happened?"

Billy replied, "We each let our pride and our own selfishness get in the way of what was really important, until we both came to the same conclusion."

Lee tilted his head in Billy's direction, asking, "Which was?"

Billy stated, "That no matter what was going on in the outside world, we had to pay attention to what was right in front of us...In our hearts. And if we weren't careful, we'd lose each other for good... And that, My Friend, was that..."

Lee sighed, and nodding, stated, "Okay...So, let's say Amanda and I talk it all out, and her family's fine with us being together...What about her not wanting a gun in the house? I-I don't want to lose sight of what I've been all these years...I like being an agent, and I thought she liked working up to being one too, with her training and all."

Billy remarked, "Alright...You're not always going to see eye to eye on some things, but you'll have to learn about compromise! Jeannie had the same stance on guns as Amanda does. So I offered this up to her. I'd get a security system put in, but only keep my gun and bullets in a metal box locked away in the closet."

Lee sighed and queried, "So, how did that go over?"

Billy responded, "Fine...We have the security in place, and have neighborhood watches as well, and we've told the girls to keep out of areas they know not to be in our house."

Lee shrugged, saying, "Okay, so, speaking of homes, is mine still in Georgetown?"

Billy nodded stating, "Everyone has their places back, but it's just a matter of packing up everything...Look, why don't we get something to eat across the street, and then you can go grab some shut eye yourself, since that's what Amanda's doing? Trust me, you'll be able to function better that way later, hmm?"

Lee nodded, answering, "You're right, Billy...Thanks for the advice."

Billy replied as they both rose from their seats, and headed out of the office, "Any time, Scarecrow...And don't worry. You and Amanda will make it work like Jeannie and I did, I guarantee it..."

And later that morning, as Lee got settled in a hotel room, and laid down, he thought, Billy's right...I'm making too much of this...It'll be fine...
