Chapter 26

A knock on the interrogation room door made Kara frown but she opened the door. The frown turned into a smirk when she saw Nyssa standing there. Letting her colleague into the room, Kara said,

"Mary, this is Nyssa. She broke her arm while taking down Natasha. I think she wants to thank you for that." The sarcasm was easy to hear in the blonde's voice as she sat back down at the interrogation room table.

"I guess we should be thanking her for Marie and Todd as well. Both of them could have died. Poor Todd still has a long way to go. 'Touch and go' were the words the Doctor used. You know if Todd dies, it'll be your fault. ARGUS will turn you over to NCPD and you'll stand trial for murder, but I'm sure that Supergirl told you that," Nyssa laid out some news that was a bit for both of the ladies in the room as she took the seat next to the Kryptonian.

"I didn't shoot him," Mary's look was cold. Nyssa had seen that look before on many of the dangerous people she'd talked to.

"Accessory after the fact. You dropped him at the hospital like he was a bag of wet cement and then you made the lady you kidnapped drive you through the city streets. That's a felony. Todd dies and that's murder while in commission of a felony so Murder One. I believe that's life in prison without the possibility of parole here in National City. Makes you lucky really," Nyssa explained. Kara knew where she was going with this and it was something that they would need to contend with – whether they could turn Mary back into Mary or not.

"Before you go thinking you'll be bunking with Pike, I must remind you that he will be a permanent resident of ARGUS facilities," Nyssa continued.

"Is that supposed to scare me? If the big bad Kryptonian didn't scare me, you're supposed to?" Mary asked.

"The truth is often scarier than we like to admit. You knew Supergirl wouldn't hurt you because that's who she is. That and she's friends with your sister. See I have no such affiliations. I'm a ghost. Here one minute and you're dead the next," the former leader of the League of Assassins said.

"And they let you in here with me? Supergirl approves?" Mary gave the blonde a look.

"Not my operation. I'm just the boots on the ground. I have no say in who they hire for their wet work. Though I am surprised they called in the League of Assassins," Kara shrugged. Mary gauged the look on the blonde's face and could not decipher what was going through Kara's head.

"Let's get something straight. It's not Supergirl's operation. It's ARGUS's. That happened when you decided to skip town and bring your shit here to National City. While heroes like Supergirl can work in other jurisdictions, criminals are criminals and they can't operate in any jurisdiction. You have one card left to play and if you don't play it, not even your sister can help you. So, what's it going to be? You tell us where Enigma is and what her plans are, or you get treated like the criminal that you've become and well Supergirl can't guarantee your safety," Nyssa gave it to her straight; her look not giving anything away.

"You would let her talk to me like that?" Mary raised an eyebrow at Kara.

"She's right. Even Kate can't get you out of this. I really do not want to have to give her bad news but she knew that there were some outcomes of the operation that may not be favorable. You dropped Todd off at the hospital. I know that Mary, my friend Mary, is still in there somewhere. She was the one who got Todd to the hospital. Who shot him? Who pumped the Snakebite into him?" The blonde wanted to know.

"The fool is in love with that engineer. He walked right into Enigma's trap. I figured we didn't need the drugs but I'm not the boss so, I didn't get the say," Mary explained.

"Why didn't she kill him once Marie was back in our custody?" Nyssa inquired.

"She had an idea for him but it seems that the drugs weren't working all the way or something because that idiot charged at Syke and Syke shot him. I took his gun and knocked on the motel room next door. A lady opened it, I shoved the gun in her face, and told her that she had to help me. She nearly wet her pants but she did as she was told. Syke took off. I would assume to find Enigma or to save his own ass since he shot her new project," Mary told them.

"I didn't find a gun on you when I stopped the car," Kara pointed out.

"It's in the center console of the car. I put it in there once we got close to traffic. I didn't want someone in a higher vehicle seeing it and calling the cops, giving away my location. Besides bullets don't do anything to you," Mary gave Kara a look. There was a knock on the one-way glass.

"Why don't I keep Mary company?" Nyssa asked. Kara nodded and stood up before heading out to see what Lyla wanted.

"You don't have a sidearm on you. How would you do it – if you actually are ordered to take me out?" Mary wanted to know.

"I don't need a gun. I have all I need right here," Nyssa wiggled her fingers.

"With a cast on?" Mary asked.

"That actually helps. It's nice and heavy," Nyssa was straight faced. Kara heard the whole thing and heaved a sigh.

"Marie is more stable and Todd is holding steady but the antidote for him will still have to wait for a few days. The doctors put him in a medically induced coma so he won't jump up when he wakes up. He's also been strapped to the bed, so that J'onn can get back to saving National City. Before he does that though we're going to need J'onn and Nia here if we're going to break her out of that funk. I didn't see any injection spots. Did you?" Lyla asked.

"I did not. I think we were right. Mary was already too compromised when Pike got to her," Kara shook her head.

"All right. Let's let Nyssa play with her food. Mary needs to know there is no more friendly talk," Lyla told her.

"Sounds good. I'll call them," Kara said.
