Summary: Kagome is horribly apathetic to the business of others, yet she's ended up getting pulled into a mess in the making. Takemichi doesn't understand her way of thinking, but that doesn't mean he won't try to convince her he's not trying to change the past for the worse. He just needs to get her to understand that her friends are the real threat. Not just to others, but to her as well.
Pairing: Undecided.
Disclaimer: I do not own either series. Each belongs to their rightful owners.
Chapter One
She wasn't positive where she was going as she made her way down the semi-crowded sidewalk. She wandered about aimlessly, her very actions decided by mere whim.
It'd been a few weeks at most since she came back from the past for the last time. Finding her place back in the present, as well as trying to adjust back to the deafening abyss that was an ordinary, mundane life were challenges. Ones that she found to be harder than normal to accomplish.
Something lingered in the air that left her on edge, and, for the longest time, she couldn't quite put it together. It was familiar, yet entirely unlike anything else she'd ever felt. It made her feel like she was walking on eggshells as if she had to proceed with everything she did with the utmost care and caution. It burned at her senses and lingered in a way that left her uncertain.
She didn't understand.
Neat brows furrowed in concentration as she came to a halt. Long locks of raven hair fell down her back in messy waves, the wind furthering their messy state. Deep blue eyes glared silently at the ground as she, once again, felt that glaring aura rub against her senses.
The sound of footsteps approaching her pulled her from her thoughts. With those footsteps came an aura that was horribly familiar. At the same time, a face appeared in the back of her mind.
She turned just in time to avoid a hand falling to rest on her shoulders. Her eyes narrowed when she found herself lifting her gaze to catch the newcomer's stare. Amber clashed against blue as silence greeted her at first. It was soon broken by a faint laugh.
"You're still a little weirdo, aren't you?"
She didn't say anything in response as she folded her arms across her chest. She contemplated merely turning and walking off, to offer nothing in response in favor of brushing him off entirely, but something prevented her from doing so.
"What do you want?" Kagome responded in a flat tone. Her lack of amusement was swiftly noted, and, in turn, he held his hands up in mock defeat.
"Is that any way to greet an old friend, Ka-Go-Me?"
She scoffed at that, fighting hard to keep from laughing directly in his face. "Whatever gave you the impression that we were friends in the first place, Hanma?" Surely it hadn't been her, that's for certain.
"Not even gonna use my given name?" he remarked. "You're too cruel, you know."
Kagome's expression didn't change as she looked up at him. "What do you want?" she asked, repeating her initial question. A grin spread across his face when it seemed she'd seen right through him. Then again, she'd always been able to see through him. Not just him, but everyone else as well.
"See? This is what I meant," he responded. "Always a little weirdo." He lowered his hands, shoving them in his pockets as he gave her a once-over. She didn't know what he was looking for, but she wasn't necessarily pleased when she felt his gaze lingering on her a bit too long. "I saw you, and I figured it'd be fun to catch up," he stated. She didn't trust those words. "Wouldn't you agree?"
"Wanna know what I'd find fun?" Kagome responded, tone flat. "If you were to tell me what you want." He sighed, reaching to rub the back of his neck.
"Sheesh, it's so hard to get you to swap focus," Hanma muttered. "You used to be so wide-eyed and naive," he remarked as if he were recalling a fond memory. It only made her eyes narrow. "When'd you get so damn jaded?"
She bristled silently at that remark, his smirk widening when he noticed the impact those words had on her.
"I don't see how-!" Kagome started, only to swiftly cut herself off when that off-putting aura returned to burn against her senses. She froze, feeling it grow closer and closer. She whirled around, hair whipped up in a flurry as her gaze settled on a boy walking down the street.
His bleached hair stood out from a mile away, and, for a split second, her eyes caught his own. It was in that second that it all clicked. She felt like she was going to puke.
"What kind of sick…-" she muttered, voice too quiet for anyone else to pick up on. She didn't have to get closer. She gathered all she needed to know from where she was.
Time travel.
It clung to him like a stagnant haze. Before she knew it, her neutral expression had shifted.
Her eyes narrowed on the blue-eyed boy. She found it impossible to ignore the suffocating aura of time travel that seemed to saturate his body whole. It was like he breathed it out. It made her skin crawl.
The glare on her face was swiftly picked on by the taller boy at her side, if the amused noise he made meant anything.
"Ah?" Hanma leaned a bit closer. "What a mean look you have there," he remarked. "How scary." There was no genuine seriousness present as he spoke, but she didn't let that faze her. Kagome sighed and shook her head.
"I don't recall asking you for outside opinions," she responded, pushing her hands in her pockets with a mild huff. A wider grin spread across his face as he glanced at the object of her ire.
"Is that so?" Hanma asked. "Don't you think things will be far more entertaining if we were to work together a bit here?"
Kagome almost scoffed. "What in the hell gave you that impression?" she retaliated. "I don't need your help with anything."
"Yeah? That doesn't mean you can't do me a favor here."
Kagome arched a brow. It was hard to gauge if she was curious or aggravated. It was probably a safe bet to assume it was both, all at once. "What do I get in return?"
"Hmm…" Hanma seemed to genuinely think it over for a few seconds before a grin cracked across his face. "My unconditional love?"
Kagome grimaced and turned on her heel. "That sounds more like a threat than anything else." Her response made him laugh and he reached out before she could get too far away from him. He draped an arm over her shoulders, tugging her back against him.
"Don't be silly now," he responded. "It's both."
"That doesn't make it any better," she remarked in a deadpan tone. The next second, she all but shoved his arm from her shoulders. "Don't touch me," she stated then. "You reek of cigarette smoke. It's disgusting."
Hanma looked from her before lifting his gaze back to the boy she'd been hardcore glaring at. He'd already walked off, and she'd long since turned away from him. He glanced at her, his smirk falling back into place.
Kagome had fallen silent, seemingly lost deep in thought. Just when it looked like she was a lost cause, she shook her head and breathed a low sigh.
A feeling deep inside her told her to relent and see where this took her, to see what would happen. She wasn't sure why she felt that way, or what the root cause for it might've been, but she found herself slowly swaying to its whims.
"He's Hanagaki, by the way," Hanma told her, leaning a bit closer despite her prior statement. When she looked up at him, he backed off just enough to put a bit more space between them. "Looks like you've got a little problem with him, eh?"
"…" Kagome kept up her silence for several long seconds before she closed her eyes with a sigh. "No," she eventually stated. "I don't even know him." Still…- that air of uncertainty stung. She wanted it gone.
She was sick of time travel and all the burdens it brought.
She lifted her gaze back up to his face, her expression falling neutral, unreadable.
"Fine." The word was short, her tone direct. "Let's talk."
Hamna smirked, nodding as he took a step back. "That's what I like to hear."
Auroua-chan: Kagome and Hanma have some type of past. It might not be good, but that doesn't change anything. The way Kagome regards her moments of time travel is very much burdensome, and she immediately feels uneasy upon realizing Takemichi is a time traveler.
I'm undecided on the pairing. I'm halfway considering having her with Hanma, but at the same time that might be messy. After all, it's unlikely things will go well for her in the future as things are…-
Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
Please remember to Reivew&Favorite&Follow, thank you!
