A few days later, Ashley was feeling much better. She was sitting up in bed, looking much more like her usual self. Jay, on the other hand, was slumped in a chair beside her, looking pale and exhausted from the sleepless nights.
Dr. Natalie Manning walked in, a warm smile on her face. "Good morning, Ashley. Hi, Jay," she greeted them. "How are you feeling today, Ashley?"
Ashley smiled and pointed to Jay. "I think you should ask him that," she said with a playful tone. "He's the one who looks like he needs a doctor."
Natalie chuckled, glancing at Jay. "You do look a bit worse for wear, Jay. Have you been getting any sleep?"
Jay rubbed his eyes and managed a tired smile. "Not much, but it's worth it to see Ashley feeling better."
Natalie nodded, her expression understanding. "Well, it's good to see you both on the mend. Ashley, your latest tests look great. You should be able to go home soon."
Ashley beamed, relief washing over her. "That's wonderful news. Thank you, Dr. Manning."
Jay squeezed Ashley's hand, his exhaustion momentarily forgotten. "That's the best news I've heard all week."
Natalie smiled at the couple. "Just make sure you both get plenty of rest once you're home. And Jay, take care of yourself too."
Jay nodded, his eyes filled with gratitude. "We will. Thanks for everything, Dr. Manning."
As Natalie left the room, Ashley turned to Jay, her eyes soft with affection. "You heard the doctor. Once we're home, you're getting some rest too."
Jay chuckled, leaning in to kiss her forehead. "Deal. As long as we're together, I can handle anything."
Jay stood up, intending to stretch his legs, but the exhaustion hit him hard. He stumbled slightly, his vision blurring for a moment. Dr. Natalie Manning, who was still in the room, quickly moved to his side and gently grabbed his hand to steady him.
"Whoa, easy there, Jay," Natalie said, her voice calm and reassuring. "You need to take it slow. You've been running on fumes."
Jay nodded, grateful for her support. "Yeah, I guess I overdid it a bit," he admitted, his voice tinged with fatigue.
Ashley watched with concern, her eyes following Jay's every move. "Jay, you need to rest. You've been taking care of me non-stop."
Natalie guided Jay back to the chair, making sure he was seated comfortably. "Listen to Ashley, Jay. You're no good to her if you collapse from exhaustion."
Jay managed a tired smile, looking at Ashley. "Alright, alright. I'll rest. But only because you both insist."
Ashley reached out and took his hand, her touch gentle and comforting. "Good. We need you healthy too."
Natalie gave them both a reassuring smile. "I'll check in on you later, Ashley. And Jay, make sure you get some sleep."
As Natalie left the room, Jay leaned back in the chair, feeling the weight of his exhaustion. Ashley squeezed his hand, her eyes filled with love and gratitude.
"Thank you for everything, Jay," she whispered. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
Jay closed his eyes, a contented smile on his lips. "You don't have to worry about that, Ash. I'm not going anywhere."
Later that evening, the unit gathered at Jay and Ashley's apartment to watch the game. The atmosphere was relaxed, with everyone enjoying the break from their usual hectic schedules. Jay, however, was still feeling the effects of his exhaustion and stress.
As the game played on the TV, Jay suddenly felt a wave of nausea. He grabbed the sick bucket and leaned over, his body trembling.
Ashley, noticing his distress, immediately moved to his side and began gently massaging his lower back.
"It's okay, Jay. Just breathe," she whispered soothingly, her touch comforting.
The unit, seeing Jay's condition, exchanged concerned glances. Adam, always quick with a joke, tried to lighten the mood. "Man, Jay, you really know how to party," he said with a grin.
Kevin shook his head, his expression serious. "Take it easy, Jay. You've been pushing yourself too hard."
Kim nodded in agreement. "Yeah, you need to rest. Let us handle things for a while."
Jay, pale and shaky, managed a weak smile. "Thanks, guys. I appreciate it."
Ashley continued to massage his back, her touch helping to ease his discomfort. "Just focus on getting better, Jay. We're all here for you."
Jay looked up at her, his eyes filled with gratitude. "I know, Ash. Thank you."
As the game continued, Jay suddenly started coughing, a deep, harsh sound that caught everyone's attention. He stood up, trying to steady himself, but his body was clearly struggling. He groaned softly, clutching his side as he began to walk upstairs.
The unit watched him with concern. Adam was the first to speak. "Jay, you sure you're okay, man? You look like you need a break."
Kevin nodded, his brow furrowed. "Yeah, you should sit down. Pushing yourself isn't going to help."
Kim added, "Seriously, Jay. You need to take care of yourself too."
Jay waved them off, trying to downplay his discomfort. "I'm fine, guys. Just need a minute," he said, though his voice was strained.
Ashley, noticing his struggle, quickly followed him upstairs. "Jay, wait," she called out, her worry evident.
Jay reached the top of the stairs and leaned against the wall, his breathing labored. Ashley caught up to him, her eyes filled with concern. "Jay, what's wrong? You don't look good."
Jay tried to smile, but it came out as a grimace. "I'm just… really tired, Ash. I think it's all catching up to me."
Ashley gently guided him to sit on the edge of the bed. "You need to rest, Jay. You've been running yourself ragged."
Jay nodded, finally conceding. "Yeah, I guess you're right."
Ashley sat beside him, her hand resting on his back. "Just take it easy, okay? We'll get through this together."
Jay looked at her, his eyes filled with gratitude. "Thanks, Ash. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Ashley smiled softly. "You don't have to worry about that. I'm not going anywhere."
Downstairs, the unit exchanged glances, their concern for Jay evident.
Jay reached for a cup of water, his hand still shaky from exhaustion. As he tried to lift it, his grip faltered, and the cup slipped from his fingers, crashing to the floor. The sound echoed through the room, and Jay's frustration boiled over. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he couldn't hold them back.
Ashley immediately moved in close, her heart aching for him. She gently took his hand and placed it in her lap, her touch soothing. "It's okay, Jay," she whispered, her voice filled with compassion.
Jay leaned back, covering his eyes with his other hand to block out any light, his body trembling with emotion. "I'm so tired, Ash," he choked out, his voice breaking.
The unit, who had been watching from the kitchen, exchanged concerned glances. Adam was the first to speak, his tone gentle. "Hey, Jay, it's alright. We all have moments like this."
Kevin nodded, his expression serious. "Yeah, man. You've been through a lot. It's okay to let it out."
Kim added, her voice soft. "We're here for you, Jay. Just take it one step at a time."
After a few moments, Ashley gently released Jay's hand and stood up. "I'll be right back," she said softly, giving him a reassuring smile. Jay nodded, his eyes still closed as he tried to calm himself.
Ashley returned a few minutes later with a bottle of hand moisturiser.
She sat down beside Jay and took his hand again, this time applying a generous amount of the lotion. "This should help with the soreness," she said, her voice soothing.
Jay opened his eyes slightly, watching as Ashley carefully massaged the moisturizer into his hands.
The cool, soothing sensation began to ease the tension in his muscles. "Thanks, Ash," he murmured, his voice filled with gratitude.
Ashley smiled, her touch gentle and loving. "You're welcome, Jay. Just relax."
The unit, still nearby, watched the tender moment with a mix of admiration and concern.
Adam leaned over to Kevin and whispered, "She's really something, isn't she?"
Kevin nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Yeah, Jay's lucky to have her."
Kim added, her voice soft, "They're good for each other. It's nice to see."
Jay, feeling the support from both Ashley and his friends, began to relax.
He leaned back, his other hand still covering his eyes, and let out a deep breath. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Ash," he said quietly.
Ashley leaned in and kissed his forehead. "You don't have to worry about that. I'm here, and so are they," she said, nodding towards the unit
