Chapter 4: Encounter with the Lagoon Company

Sebastian Perez sat in the dimly lit office of the Lagoon Company, surrounded by his new, unlikely allies. Dutch, the leader, leaned back in his chair, his imposing presence radiating a mix of authority and caution. Benny, the tech expert, busied himself with a laptop, his sharp eyes occasionally flicking toward Sebastian. Revy, the wild card, lounged on a couch, her twin pistols within easy reach. And then there was Rock, the newest member of the team, a former Japanese salaryman turned mercenary, who watched Sebastian with a curious, yet sympathetic gaze.

Dutch was the first to speak, breaking the silence. "Alright, Sebastian. You're in our world now. Tell us your story, and why finding Roberta is worth risking your life."

Sebastian took a deep breath, choosing his words carefully. "I'm a former Colombian special forces soldier. I met Roberta in Bogotá. She was...different. We fell in love, but she disappeared one night, leaving a note. I later found out she was a FARC operative, and she used me to gather information. I still love her and need to find her, no matter what."

Revy snorted, her skepticism evident. "Love, huh? In a place like this? You've got to be kidding me."

Rock, who had been silent, leaned forward, his expression earnest. "Love can make people do crazy things, Revy. We've all done things we never thought we would. Give the guy a break."

Dutch nodded, a thoughtful look in his eyes. "Alright, Sebastian. We'll help you, but you need to understand that this isn't going to be easy. Roberta, or the Bloodhound of Florencia as she's known here, is dangerous. If you're serious about finding her, you'll need to be prepared for anything."

Benny, who had been quietly working, spoke up. "I've done some digging. The Lovelace family is connected to some serious players here in Roanapur. They might know where she is, but getting to them won't be easy. We'll need to play it smart."

Sebastian nodded, his resolve unwavering. "I'm ready. Tell me what I need to do."

Dutch leaned forward, his gaze intense. "First, we need to see what you're made of. We've got a job coming up. If you can handle yourself, we'll know you're serious. And it might get us closer to finding Roberta."

Revy smirked, her eyes glinting with excitement. "Hope you can handle a gun, pretty boy. This isn't some love story; it's Roanapur."

Rock placed a reassuring hand on Sebastian's shoulder. "We'll be with you every step of the way. Just stay focused, and don't lose sight of why you're here."

Preparing for the Job

Over the next few days, Sebastian immersed himself in preparations with the Lagoon Company. He trained with Revy, who put him through grueling drills to ensure he was ready for the chaotic violence of Roanapur. Despite her tough exterior and harsh words, Sebastian sensed a grudging respect growing between them.

Benny provided him with the necessary gear and intel. "You'll need this," Benny said, handing Sebastian a modified rifle. "It's lightweight but packs a punch. And here's a comm device. Stay in contact, and don't do anything stupid."

Dutch briefed him on the mission. They were to intercept a shipment of arms being transported by a rival gang. The job was risky, but it would earn them valuable information and resources. "This isn't just about the guns," Dutch explained. "It's about sending a message. We take this shipment, and people start talking. Information flows. We get closer to the Lovelace family, and to Roberta."

On the eve of the mission, Rock found Sebastian alone, checking his gear. "Nervous?" Rock asked, his voice gentle.

Sebastian looked up, nodding slightly. "A bit. But I'm ready. I need to find her."

Rock sat beside him, his expression understanding. "I know what it's like to be driven by something you can't let go of. Just remember, you're not alone in this. We've got your back."

Sebastian smiled, appreciating the support. "Thanks, Rock. I won't forget that." a few hours later As Sebastian prepared for the upcoming mission, he found himself growing more curious about his new companions, particularly the enigmatic Revy and her relationship with Rock. He had noticed the way Revy's usually fierce demeanor softened slightly around Rock, and he couldn't help but wonder about their story. Before heading to the port for the ambush, Sebastian decided to seize a rare quiet moment to ask Revy about it.

Revy was sitting alone, cleaning her twin pistols with meticulous care. Sebastian approached her cautiously, not wanting to provoke her infamous temper.

"Revy, can I ask you something?" he began, keeping his tone respectful.

Revy looked up, her eyes narrowing slightly. "What's on your mind, pretty boy?"

Sebastian took a deep breath. "I've noticed you and Rock seem close. What's the story there?"

Revy's expression hardened for a moment, and Sebastian wondered if he had overstepped. But then, she shrugged and continued cleaning her guns.

"Rock's different," she said finally. "When he first showed up, I thought he was just another soft, clueless idiot. But he's tougher than he looks. And he's got a way of seeing the good in people, even in a place like this."

Sebastian nodded, intrigued. "He seems to care about you a lot."

Revy glanced up, her eyes locking onto his. "Yeah, he does. And I care about him too. But this life… it's not easy. There's no guarantees."

Sebastian took a step closer, his expression earnest. "That's why you need to be decisive. In our line of work, we never know when we might die. If you care about Rock, don't waste time. Let him know how you feel."

Revy's eyes flashed with a mix of anger and vulnerability. "You don't get it, Sebastian. This isn't some romantic movie. This is Roanapur. People like us, we don't get happy endings."

Sebastian placed a hand on her shoulder, his voice gentle but firm. "I do get it, Revy. I've been through hell too. But that's all the more reason to hold onto the things that matter. Don't let fear or doubt stop you from living."

For a moment, Revy looked like she might lash out, but then her expression softened. She sighed, her shoulders relaxing slightly.

"You've got a point, soldier boy," she admitted. "Maybe I've been running from it. Maybe I'm scared of what it means to care that much."

Sebastian smiled, his eyes filled with understanding. "We're all scared, Revy. But sometimes, taking that leap is the only way to find out what's worth fighting for."

Revy smirked, her usual bravado returning. "You're pretty wise for a lovesick soldier. Alright, I'll think about it."

Just then, Dutch called out, signaling that it was time to move out. Revy stood up, tucking her pistols into their holsters.

"Let's go show these bastards what we're made of," she said, her fierce grin back in place.

As they headed towards the port, Sebastian felt a renewed sense of camaraderie with his new team. They were all fighting their own battles, but in that moment, they were united by a common purpose.

to face whatever challenges lay ahead. The search for Roberta had truly begun, and he wouldn't stop until he found her.

The Job

The night of the mission arrived. The Lagoon Company moved like shadows through the streets of Roanapur, their movements precise and coordinated. Sebastian felt a mix of adrenaline and fear, but he kept his focus, determined to prove himself.

As they approached the target, Dutch signaled for them to spread out. The shipment was heavily guarded, but they had the element of surprise. Sebastian took his position, his heart pounding as he awaited the signal.

When Dutch gave the go-ahead, chaos erupted. Gunfire filled the air, and Sebastian found himself in the thick of the battle. He moved with a soldier's precision, taking down guards and covering his teammates. Despite the danger, he felt a strange sense of clarity, his purpose driving him forward.

Revy's voice crackled over the comm. "Nice shooting, pretty boy. Keep it up!"

The fight was intense, but the Lagoon Company prevailed. As the dust settled, Dutch approached Sebastian, a satisfied grin on his face. "You did good, Sebastian. Welcome to the team."

Benny and Rock gave him nods of approval, while Revy offered a rare, genuine smile. "Not bad for a lovesick soldier."

Sebastian felt a surge of relief and pride. He had proven himself, but more importantly, he had taken the first step towards finding Roberta. As they regrouped and prepared to head back, Dutch clapped him on the shoulder.

"This is just the beginning, Sebastian. We'll find Roberta. But remember, in Roanapur, nothing is ever simple."

Sebastian nodded, his resolve stronger than ever. With the Lagoon Company by his side, he was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. The search for Roberta had truly begun, and he wouldn't stop until he found her.
