Here, the average family wishes their youngest a safe trip on her way to school, but you don't know that young Ms. Lillian Marie Evans is a witch. A muggle-born witch, to be exact, going off for her first year at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.'
It all started with that boy and that letter; they were the cause of it all. Now, it's nothing but Hogwarts this and Hogwarts that. She's not my Lily anymore,' thought Petunia as she and her family entered the station.
The Evans family stood on the bustling platform of King's Cross Station, surrounded by hurried travelers and the faint smell of steam from departing trains. Mrs. Evans hugged Lily tightly, her eyes moist with emotion.
"Goodbye, darling. We'll miss you and see you for Christmas," she whispered, trying to hold back tears.
Mr. Evans patted Lily's shoulder gently. "Take care, Lily. Write to us often."
Petunia stood to the side, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. She avoided looking directly at her sister, her expression mixed with resentment and sadness.
"Tunia, don't you want to tell your sister goodbye?" Mr. Evans asked gently, noticing Petunia's withdrawn demeanor.
Petunia sighed heavily, finally meeting Lily's hopeful gaze with a cold stare. "Why, she's already ruined everything by going," she muttered bitterly, turning her back on her sister.
Lily's face fell, hurt evident in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Tuney. I'm sorry! Listen – Maybe once I'm there—"
Petunia cut her off sharply, scoffing at the thought that she would ever get into that freaky school.
, her voice tinged with frustration. "No, listen, Tuney! Maybe I can persuade Professor Dumbledore to change his mind once I arrive!"
"I don't want to go! You think I want to go to some stupid castle and learn to be a – a… – you think I want to be a freak?" Petunia hissed, her voice rising with each word.
Lily's expression hardened. "I'm not a freak. That's a horrible thing to say."
"That's where you're going. A special school for freaks like you. You and that Snape boy… weirdoes, that's what you two are. It's good you're being separated from normal people. It's for our safety," Petunia said bitterly, turning abruptly and walking away from the platform barrier and back towards their car.
The tension between the sisters hung heavy in the air as Lily watched her sister retreat. She blinked back tears, feeling the weight of Petunia's words like a blow. Despite their closeness growing up, they were drifting apart..
Mrs. Evans wrapped an arm around Lily, offering her comfort. "She'll come around, Lily. It's just hard for her right now."
Lily nodded, though her heart ached with the realization that her departure to Hogwarts had created a divide between her and her older sister. As the train whistle blew and the Hogwarts Express started to move, carrying Lily away to her new life as a witch, she couldn't shake the feeling of sadness and loss over the strained relationship with her sister.
The Evans family stood on the platform, watching until the train disappeared, each lost in their own thoughts and emotions about the future and the changes ahead.
The sisters drifted apart, practically in two different worlds, but what can you do?
The train's whistle faded into the distance as the Evans family returned to the car, the weight of Lily's departure heavy in the air. Mrs. Evans tried to offer comforting words, but Petunia remained silent and withdrawn, her emotions a turbulent mix of resentment and longing.
As soon as they arrived home, Petunia dashed up the stairs, her footsteps echoing in the hallway. She slams her bedroom door, shutting herself off from the world and her parents' attempts to console her. This separation from Lily was unlike anything she had experienced before – longer than any summer camp or school trip. At least then, she knew Lily would return, and they would resume their lives together. Now, there was uncertainty, a void left by Lily's absence that Petunia couldn't bear.
She flopped onto her bed, staring up at the ceiling, replaying the scene at the train station in her mind. The image of Lily's excited face, clutching her new school supplies and waving goodbye, lingered painfully. Petunia couldn't deny her twinge of jealousy mixed with a profound sadness. Her little sister was off to a place where Petunia could never follow, a place that seemed to erase her from their shared world.
In the quiet of her room, Petunia's thoughts drifted to the rift that had grown between them over the months since Lily received her Hogwarts letter. Once inseparable, their bond had frayed, with Lily discovering her magical abilities. Petunia struggled to understand and accept these changes, feeling Lily's newfound identity was gradually stealing her sister away.
She buried her face in her pillow, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. Anger surged within her – anger at the unfairness of it all, anger at Lily for leaving her behind, and anger at herself for feeling this way. Beneath the anger, though, lay a deep-seated loneliness. Lily had been her closest companion, her confidante, and now, without her, Petunia felt adrift.
Outside her window, the afternoon sun cast long shadows across her room, marking the passage of time. Petunia knew this was only the beginning of a long stretch without Lily by her side. Despite the few months that had passed and the bitterness in her heart, a part of her yearned for things to return to how they were – for Lily to come home and be sisters again without the shadow of magic looming between them.
But for now, all Petunia could do was wait, grappling with her emotions and the void left in Lily's absence, hoping against hope that their bond would endure the separation and the changes that Hogwarts would surely bring.
I posted this story in a rush, so there were a lot of edits that I needed to meet, but I wanted to post this. I'm correcting the first chapter and adding the second chapter. I have the story written up already so there won't be too long of a week for my posting I just have to make sure it flows better.
