"Trans.: Can't Sleep"
Here it comes again, the heart that's wide awake
Eager for your hugs that are so tender
Guess it's already morning but I don't care
Talking to you, please give me a moment more
I rarely become like this
My sleeping heart, you have awoken
My prayer is
Hopefully, I'm on your mind
Before you close your eyes
I don't want to dream alone
Here it comes again, the longing heart that's wading
Can't wait any longer to take a peek at your lips
It's already night time but I'm still thinking
Your whole day with me by your side
I rarely don't get confused
My heart that was lost was found by you
My prayer is
Hopefully, I'm on your mind
Before your eyes close
I don't want to dream alone
My prayer is
Hopefully, I'm on your mind
Before your eyes close
I don't want to dream alone
Can't sleep

"Wow. Keita's wife looks really beautiful and radiant. They look so perfect for each other. Harumi is super cute! I'm starting to miss that little kid. I hope she's okay... I hope they're both okay." Kotoko mumbled as she stalked her way through Keita's socials in their bedroom on a Saturday afternoon. It's been two weeks since Keita was discharged from the hospital and they haven't talked to each other since.
*1 calendar notification pops in*
"Fourth Wedding Anniversary Celebration by the sea: A very memorable trip next weekend, plan ahead!"
"Oh my! It's next weekend? I have to prepare it now…" Kotoko said to herself before going downstairs to look for Naoki, where she was welcomed by Mrs. Irie holding pancakes for an afternoon snack.
"Hi darling, hope you had a good rest for adjusting in the evening shift. Want some pancakes?" Mrs. Irie asked.
"I'm adjusting well with the schedule these past few days at work Mom, but it gets hard for me on weekends since I'm trying to stay awake in the daylight to bond with everyone else, especially with Naoki." Kotoko replied, obviously sad from the situation. "Where is he anyway Mom? I'll grab some of these pancakes for him too." Kotoko asked.
"Try to check the balcony, I saw him there earlier reading something... My poor daughter, it must be really hard for you to adjust." Mrs. Irie sighed.
"Thanks Mom, no worries. It'll only last three months. Hehe" Kotoko replied as she walked straight to Naoki.
"Hey hubby!" Kotoko surprised Naoki behind his back as he was reading e-books from his iPad. "It's our fourth anniversary this weekend, what do you think about going to the beach?"
"Do you really have to startle me, Kotoko?" a startled Naoki said. "Can't you be less annoying? Sigh. Anyway, you informed me too late. I already made plans with my classmates this weekend."
"What? But it's our anniversary… I'm trying my best to hide my excitement on this one so nobody can meddle. Can't you adjust your plans with your classmates the week after next?" Kotoko asked in disappointment.
"Well no, we'll be completing some practical records. I can't miss this one." Naoki replied.
"Right, sorry. We'll just make our fifth anniversary more special next year… anyway, continue with what you're doing. Here are some pancakes from Mom." Kotoko said while holding back her tears.
She then went back to their bedroom upset, laid in bed and burst out in tears wondering, what kind of marriage is this? The thought consumes her everyday.
*Ting! Ting ting ting ting! Ting!*
A series of chat messages then came in. Kotoko wondered who might it be... hoping it's not the head nurse. Upon picking up her phone, the name "Horri Keita" appears. Kotoko was shocked and felt surprisingly excited at the same time. She really missed Keita's presence.
"Onee-chan! My cutie one-chan! How are you?"
"I miss you!"
"Do you have plans next weekend? I'll be having a school trip at the countryside this Saturday, and my Dad is a big bore when we travel to places, can you come with us? Let's take fun pictures, Dad will be our official photographer! Pleaseee."
"Please… Onee-chan…"
"*Sad emoticon sticker*"
"Kotoko, this is Keita. I'm so sorry for the previous messages, it was Harumi. I thought she'll only play some mobile games, that silly kid. Anyway, don't feel obliged to her request. I know you have tons of things to do during weekends… But we'll be glad if you can join us. Uhm, I haven't talked to you this past two weeks, I hope you're doing great. And I hope you don't consume all the coffee over the hospital's vending machine."
Kotoko giggled from Harumi and Keita's messages, "These two." She mumbled to herself.
She felt happy. Kotoko almost felt nothing but tired these past few days. From the draining internship schedule to Naoki's coldness, she thought she might need a break. What good timing this is. Besides, she really missed spending time with Harumi, possibly with Keita as well. She's still figuring it out.
"I'll bring some bentos. See you!" replied Kotoko thru chat.
(At Irie's home next Saturday morning)
"Hey Mom, where's Kotoko? Her shift's over at 6am, it's already past 8." Naoki asked Mrs. Irie upon sitting at the dining table for breakfast.
"No idea, I wonder where she is. Try to call her or something, I'm worried… Also check your phone, she might have left a message." as Mrs. Irie poured coffee into Mr. Irie's cup.
"Yeah right, I haven't checked my phone yet." Naoki answered.
"I'll be travelling the countryside with my friend, Harumi. I might go there right away after my shift, don't worry about me. Have a great day and hope you finish your practical records."
Text sent by Kotoko, 4:20 AM today.
"Harumi? Who is Harumi? And why is she only telling me this now?" Naoki's exact thoughts, still looking at the text message Kotoko sent. A memory then popped in his mind… "Harumi? Isn't she the same girl from the hospital lobby, daughter of Kotoko's old patient? Keita Horri."
(Flashback at the lobby on the day Keita was discharged)
"Hey Naoki, aren't you supposed to be going home already?" a medicine student asked.
"I'm about to, I forgot to give these onigiris I bought earlier for my wife." Naoki replied.
"Oh, I see. I saw your wife sending off one of my patients, Mr. Horri Keita. I can see her still standing in the middle of the lobby, why don't you give it now?" replied the medicine student.
"Nevermind, I'll just give it to her at home." Naoki replied but his thoughts were focused on the patient's name... "Horri Keita".
(End of flashback)
Naoki suddenly felt ill to his stomach, was it the coffee? Were the eggs spoiled? Or was it the memory of this Horri Keita whispering something to Kotoko which made her blush in brightest red? He should be the only one who can make Kotoko blush that much. He was annoyed at the thought of it.
(Inside the bus on the way to the countryside)
"Dad, onee-chan looks really tired. I hope this trip wasn't bothersome for her." Harumi said to his father.
"She might be really tired from work… let's just make the best out of this trip." Keita replied as they both looked at Kotoko peacefully sleeping with her head placed on Keita's shoulder.
