Star Wars: Memory of Remnant
Chapter one: First Steps
Cover Image: Ben Solo wielding his blue lightsaber against training droid as Luke Skywalker watches him from afar.
Eight years have passed since the Battle of Endor and the New Republic was being built from the ground up, but in order to do that, Senator Leia Organa Solo had to gain powerful political allies and financial backers from many unaligned worlds, one such financial ally would be one of her husband, Han Solo's old friends and one of her previous admirers, the head of the Schnee Dust Corporation, Jacques Schnee.
Maintaining an amicable relationship with regular visits, the Solos would regularly take their son Ben to visit the Schnee household, where he would become a close friend and playmate to their youngest daughter Weiss Schnee.
Ben and Weiss were huddled up together on the sofa, watching a holomovie adaptation of one of Remnant's fairy tales, The Four Maidens and the Black Knight. The young girl kept trying to hold the young boy's hand, but his attention was fixed on the motion picture, earning annoyed huff from her.
In the study, Han and Jacques were in the middle of an intense game of Sabbac where the stakes were raised with each successive round. They were tied, needing only one more victory to decide the winner.
"Looking a little pale there, Jack." Han gave Jacques a confident smirk as he used his friend's old nickname, holding his cards in his hands. "Ready to lose a fortune?"
"Your smugness won't save you this time, Solo." Jacques spoke with his usual condescending confidence, when a sudden idea came into mind. "How about we raise the stakes?"
"I'm listening." Han gave Jacques a smug smile, confident that he was holding a winning hand.
"If you win, I'll pay all of your debts with interest." Jacques changed from friend to businessman immediately as he negotiated with Han. "But if I win… your son has to marry Weiss when they come of age."
Han paused for a moment as he thought of the renewed stakes, he was given the opportunity to clear his debts and earn a small fortune but that was only if he won, and losing would mean making a big decision for his son's future, but in the former smuggler's mind, losing was impossible.
"You're on, Jack…" Han suppressed a smirk, trying to hide his confidence so as not to give away his winning hand.
Han and Jacques stared each other down, both gamblers trying to remain as unreadable as possible as they slowly showed their hands.
"Pure Sabacc-" Han wore a triumphant smirk as he laid his cards over the table with a dramatic flourish, only for his opponent to cut him off with the declaration he dreaded.
"Idiot's Array." Jacques laid his cards on the table, smugly watching both the smirk and color leave Han's face.
Han left the study dumbfounded and with a sense of dread, he did not look forward to explaining the stakes to his wife, but lucky for him, Ben was still young and impressionable, he'd be forgiven by his son, at least until he's old enough to understand.
After the holomovie concluded, Han entered the room to pick up Ben, only to see him and Weiss asleep in each other's arms as the credits rolled. The former smuggler smiled at the sight before shaking his son gently.
"Hey, little guy." Han continued to nudge his son's shoulder until Ben opened his eyes wearily. "We're leaving."
Ben rubbed his eyes as he saw his father and as the boy stood up, he felt delicate fingers wrap around his own and a subtle murmur coming from Weiss.
"You're leaving...?" Weiss kept her hand around Ben's as her eyes opened as a look of disappointment and sadness appeared on her features.
"I'll bring him over next week, sound good, princess?" Han grinned at Weiss as he pets her hair roughly as a gesture of affection, earning a light chuckle from the young heiress.
"See you later, Weiss..." Ben smiled at Weiss as he stood beside Han, giving her a friendly wave before following his father out of the room.
"Come back soon." Weiss' lips curved into a beaming smile, knowing that she'd be seeing him very soon.
Han led Ben to their speeder and as he walked past the garden he saw Mrs. Schnee behind a table with a bottle of wine in her hand and, half empty glass and her scroll, which had a picture of her younger self together with Han. The former smuggler walked quietly as he tried to sneak past the drunken woman, only to see an object hurled at his direction and shatter against the wall behind him.
Startled, Ben stepped back before looking at the wall, seeing a shattered wine glass on the floor and Mrs. Schnee glaring angrily at Han through heavy, sleepy eyes.
"Geez, talk about bitter." Han gave his son a nervous and awkward smile as he gestured him into the speeder.
While on the trip from the Schnee Mansion back to the hotel, Han's nervous smile remained. He had just bet his son's future and lost, thoughts on how he would tell Leia, but more importantly, Ben ran through his mind as he turned to face the oblivious boy.
"Kid, be honest, you like Weiss, right?" Han asked Ben coyly, trying to hide his guilt and embarrassment from Ben.
"Yeah, she's my friend..." Ben tilted his head slightly as he looked at his father, slightly confused at the sudden question.
"Good, because you'll be seeing her a lot when you get bigger." Han sighed as he slumped back against his seat and reached out to pet Ben's hair, mentally bracing himself for Leia's scolding.
Back to the present, Ben Solo was in an awkward situation, he was faced with his estranged fiancé and forced to explain a relationship that he himself didn't fully understand.
"W-w-w-what?!" Ruby struggled to find her words at Weiss' bombshell of a declaration, raising her arms in protest as she hugged Ben's arm. "No way... you're joking, right?"
"Does Weiss ever joke?" Ben tried to lighten the mood with his own attempt at humor, though he stopped with a nervous gulp upon seeing the young heiress' scowl.
"Pay attention, you dolt!" Weiss took Ben by the cheeks and made him turn his head to face her, now meeting his eyes with her glare.
Before Ben could reply to Weiss' demand, two more people appeared behind Ruby. The first was Yang Xiao Long, a fair-skinned young girl with lilac eyes and bright golden hair worn loose that fades to pale gold at the tips with a cowlick sticking out at the top, dressed in a tan jacket with two yellow gauntlets on her forearms. The second was Blake Belladonna, a fair skinned young girl with amber eyes with a long black ribbon tied in a bow over her head and dressed in a sleeveless black vest with coattails hanging down her waist.
The two newcomers peered over Ruby's shoulder as Yang decided to speak up, a mischievous grin plastered all over her face as she saw Ben and Weiss.
"So, our little Ben's the guy Weiss always complains about?" Yang teased her sister as she wrapped an arm playfully around Ruby's shoulders. "Looks like you have competition, Little Sis."
"Yang-" Ruby's face turned as red as her cape as she elbowed her sister slightly, embarrassed at how casually she was talking about her not so subtle affections for Ben.
Blake however, simply sighed at the commotion and held a book over her face to block out the scene before her, the book's cover was a plain design, not unlike a textbook, but hidden within was a second book titled "Ninjas of Love".
"And another thing!" Weiss let go of Ben's cheek as she waved her finger aggressively in front of him. "What's this I hear about you travelling all over the place, huh? Is that why you never visit anymore?"
"It's just... my training takes me all over the galaxy sometimes." Ben gave Weiss a nervous smile as he tried to diffuse her anger, but with little success. "I mean, if I'm gonna protect the galaxy someday, I have to see it, right?"
"Just don't go disappearing again... you hear me?" Weiss's tone softened as her scowl turned into a faint smile, resting her head on Ben's chest.
"I'll do my best..." Ben held Weiss' head to his chest, softly caressing her hair in an awkward attempt to comfort her. "You never change…"
Luke watched Ben from the distance as he smiled to himself, the unquestionable display of friendship and possible love unfolding in front of him bringing back memories of his own time at Beacon Academy.
"It doesn't take a Jedi to tell what you're thinking, old friend." Ozpin stepped beside Luke and in his hands, were two cups of hot coffee. The headmaster handed one to his friend before continuing. "Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Galen Marek and Ezra Bridger..."
"Team LLGE..." Luke closed his eyes as he took the coffee from Ozpin's hand, letting out a sigh upon hearing the name of his old team. "Leia's rebuilding the Republic, Ezra's been missing for who knows /how/ long..." The Jedi Master smiled before his mood suddenly turned more serious and sullen. "And Galen..."
"There's nothing you could've done..." Ozpin placed a reassuring hand over Luke's shoulder, shaking his head as he saw his friend's lowered mood. "He lived his whole life in Vader's shadow... but in the end..."
"From that shadow, a spark that lit the fire... that became a beacon of hope." Luke sighed at the thought of his fallen friend and comrade, holding his cup in his hands.
"Our time has passed, Luke..." Ozpin sipped on his coffee as he watched Ben and Team RWBY from a distance. "Let them build up on what you fought for..."
Luke nodded silently as he watched the new generation of fighters before him, his attention focused on Ben, but then following his previous train of thought, he turned his attention to Ruby, his expression now more hopeful.
Night fell over Beacon Academy, and as the students slept, Luke was training Ben on the cliff overlooking the Emerald Forest, a remote droid floating between the master and apprentice.
"Begin." Luke spoke, earning a nod from Ben, who immediately ignited the radiant blue blade of his lightsaber.
Luke nodded in return as he ordered the droid to shoot non-lethal bolts at Ben and sure enough, his apprentice was able to deflect each bolt with ease against the blade of his lightsaber. The master was impressed with his apprentice, so he decided to up the challenge.
"Wear this…" Luke took a small black cloth from his robes to act as a makeshift blindfold for Ben. Handing the cloth to his apprentice, he nodded as he watched him hesitantly cover his eyes.
The next exercise didn't go as well as the first, because with every bolt Ben deflected, two would hit him on his chest and shoulder, it didn't hurt, but the mild heat and shock were uncomfortable at best. The apprentice tried his hardest to keep blocking, but with each searing sting, his anger grew.
Ben started to grow frustrated with himself and with that frustration came a strong sense of anger and doubt, he reached within himself, seeing the mental image of a fiery shadow, flickering in and out and as if he were entranced, the apprentice embraced the shadow, unknowingly using the Force to shatter the droid and the surrounding boulders as his power lost control.
Ben undid the blindfold, panting and falling to his knees before looking up to see Luke, with a look of both concern and shock in his eyes.
Luke knew that Ben has raw untamed power, so strong that it seemed to instinctively burst out of his apprentice during moments of stress and frustration, but he had faith, faith that the young Solo would be able to tame that power under his guidance.
"Breathe…" Luke gently placed his hand on Ben's shoulder to calm the boy down, still sensing tension and stress within. "Just breathe…"
Ben's panting ceased as they were replaced by calm breaths, closing his eyes and focusing on Luke's voice and as he did, the shadowy flame within dissipated.
"I'm sorry, Master…" Ben looked at his surroundings with a sense of shame, he lost control again, this time when Luke trusted him with a more advanced task. He was frustrated at himself for always going out of control at the crucial moment, at the destruction he would cause.
"We can overcome this…" Luke gave Ben a reassuring smile as he closed his eyes. He did not fear his apprentice's raw power but had faith in his potential. "If you trust me…"
"Of course," Ben smiled back at Luke, who he had seen as both a teacher and father figure, since his own father was always too busy with his endeavors to be there. "Master."
On the same night, Prince Valorum stalked the streets of Vale, following the presence described by his master to an abandoned warehouse, the knight looked up to see several masked troops with, each with a unique animal aspect to them. The group raised their variety of ranged and melee weapons at him, intent on capturing or killing him for wandering into their turf.
Valorum inwardly scoffed at the troops, seeing them as aggressive children that had just gotten their paws on dangerous toys. The knight wasted no time igniting his Inquisitor lightsaber and igniting its crimson blade with a snap hiss, slowly but menacingly approaching his opponents.
"Turn and run…" Valorum gave his adversaries one final warning, not out of mercy, but out of a sense of superiority and not wanting to deal with what he saw as insects under his boot.
The troops backed away in fear and hesitation upon seeing the crimson glow of Valorum's lightsaber, having heard legends and rumors regarding the kind of warriors infamous for wielding such a weapon.
Fear gave way to aggression as the mob opened fire on Valorum and those armed with melee weapons rushed him with loud but frantic battlecries.
Valorum merely let out an annoyed sigh as he mowed through the mob, cutting their inferior weapons into pieces with his lightsaber and using the Force to toss them aside, if not for their aura, they too would be in pieces.
The remaining troops fire their guns at Valorum, only for him to ignite his lightsaber's secondary blade and spin both along the ring of his lightsaber to cut the bullets out of the air.
Before he could finish off his opponents, a young woman with dark black hair and golden eyes dressed in a fiery red dress stepped out from the shadows.
"Enough." She raised her hand and gestured at the troops to stand down before turning her attention to Valorum. "Who are you… and why are you here?"
Valorum deactivated his lightsaber, sensing the presence he was instructed to follow right before him. Smiling behind his mask he approached her.
"My master has need of you…" Valorum stopped in front of the woman. "I trust you'll cooperate."
The woman smirked as she noticed Valorum's lightsaber, it was not every day she met one of the dark warriors of legend, let alone see one in action.
"And what do I get out of this?" The woman kept her arrogant smirk on her features as she negotiated with Valorum.
"That is for my master to decide, miss…?" Valorum didn't know why the Jedi Killer needed this woman, let alone even acknowledge her, after all he only sensed half the power that was described to him.
"Cinder…" The woman held out her hand, still as smug and arrogant as ever in the face of the man who struck fear into her subordinated. "Cinder Fall."
Within his chambers, the Jedi Killer was roused from his meditations, he had sensed the presence meet with Valorum's and that meant that his plan was already falling into place.
"It begins…" The Jedi Killer stood as he approached the artificial sun within his chambers, holding his hand out to touch the light and drain it into his person. "One step closer to finding her…"
Author's note: The second chapter is finally done, and I decided to shed some light on Ben and Weiss' previous relationship as well as the history between the Solo and Schnee families. Ben and Weiss will be similar to Han and Leia but with Ben's personality being more akin to Anakin's. I took inspiration from The Last Jedi and A New Hope for Luke and Ben's training scene and I tried my best to give a visual representation of Ben's inner conflict.
Cinder Fall officially enters the fray and she has caught the Jedi Killer's attention, but is she his objective or just a pawn to reach someone more important? Only time will tell. Valorum will meet Emerald and Mercury next chapter. Valorum and Emerald will have some banter and chemistry between them.
I'm working on adding more Legends aspects to this story in the form of some characters I will add on. I'll name some of the other Jedi Students from Legends. Examples are Raynar Thul, Jaden Korr and Ganner Rhysode.
This story follows a modified canon, so don't be surprised if some events play out differently than the original Star Wars timeline, for one, Ben will be much younger when he becomes Kylo. And a sequel will have Ben Skywalker and Allana Solo renamed to Amelia Solo as the protagonists, how they fit into this new canon will be explained as the story goes on.
Now to answer my reviewers.
Zero-Nightmare
Thanks, wouldn't be Star Wars without it.
She is, and she's very innocent with her crush on Ben. She's in this chapter.
Especially when you hurt people in front of them. Yes, and the plot will thicken.
Weiss will be very possessive.
The Knights will appear soon, and Atlas will have some connection to the Empire.
Feels and chills of I do a good enough job.
Thanks, I hope it gets better.

Thanks, I hope I keep your interest.
Alhazad2003
Thanks, I'm trying to get back in the groove.
Now that you've seen RWBY, there are many scenes you can picture with Ben involved, especially volume 5.
The Jedi Killer knows of Ben's power because it's not unlike his own.
Ben is too self-critical and often moody to see any emotional cues, so expect more of that regarding Ruby.

Thanks, and may the Force be with you. The love interests are those destined to lose Ben.
