Hey everyone! So after some feedback, I'm going to try fewer chapters, but they'll be longer. Also, this story is mostly from Cassie and Draco's POV and will focus primarily on their relationship. Don't worry, there's romance too! As always, I'm open to constructive feedback. Happy reading!

Hermione Malfoy née Granger stands in the entrance of her parents' attic. It had been 23 years since she'd been here. 23 years since she stood behind her parents and obliviated all memories of them.

Now her parents live in Australia, working on their dental practice full time. Thankfully, they have kept their home in London as a vacation home for when they need a break.

Hermione had spent years researching ways she might be able to restore their memories, but to no avail. The mind is an incredibly complicated thing, and too much alteration could lead to severe cognitive damage. So after about ten years of heartbreak, Hermione finally decided to let them go. They were happy and healthy, and that was enough for her, wasn't it? That was the whole reason she did it in the first place, to protect her Muggle parents from Voldemort.

She let out a sigh as she started looking through boxes (it wasn't breaking and entering and stealing if this stuff would actually belong to her…right?) she pushed the thought aside and kept digging, careful to replace anything she moved to quell suspicion.

Ah! There it is. She lifted a long rectangular box out of the container and opened the lid. What she saw inside made Hermione audibly gasp, the box clattering to the floor where she sat.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
This made no sense! She hurriedly grabbed the box and apparated home to the cottage where she and Draco lived with their twin children, Scorpius and Cassiopeia (Cassie or Cass).
She immediately sent a patronus to her husband, who was teaching potions at Hogwarts. A few minutes later, the fireplace glowed green, and he came walking in, his black professor's robes billowing behind him, reminding her of the late Severus Snape. He came into the kitchen and placed a quick peck on the top of her head.
"Be glad you caught me during my lunch hour. Now, what did you need to talk to me about that couldn't wait until this evening?"
Draco knew she was stopping by her parents' house today. He was hoping there was nothing wrong with the house, or that she hadn't gotten caught by her parents. The curiosity was killing him. Hermione handed him a cup of tea and sat down at the table.
"You know I was going to my parents' house today, to look for the heirloom necklace my mom was supposed to give me when I turned 18. Well, I found it, but I was quite shocked at what it looked like."
Draco's eyebrows furrowed together. "You didn't know what it looked like? How do you know it's the right one?"
"My family doesn't have any other heirlooms, and my mom wasn't-isn't- a big fan of jewelry so she had just mentioned it a couple of times. I didn't even remember it existed until you brought up giving the Malfoy ring to Scorp."
The twins were turning 17 this year, the age of majority in the wizarding world, and as his father had given him the Malfoy signet ring on his 17th birthday (a rather hectic time in his life, to put it lightly), Draco had planned on giving it to Scorpius. Hermione had remembered her mother talking about a necklace that had been passed down mother to daughter for generations when they turned 18. Jean Granger never wore the necklace, claiming it was too gaudy, and kept it in storage until Hermione was of age. But by then, Jean didn't even remember she had a daughter to give it to. Hermione figured that giving the necklace to Cassie a year early wouldn't hurt anything, as she wanted her daughter to have a piece of her family history as well as Scorp. Now, however, Hermione was unsure about that same family history.
"Mione?" Draco pulled Hermione from her thoughts. "What did you find?" Hermione reached into her bag and pulled out the box and set it on the table. Before Draco even opened it, he had to ask, "Did you put a charm on this? The magic signature on this is very noticeable."
Hermione shook her head, "I didn't, that was the first odd thing I noticed about it. The fact that it even has a magical signature at all is weird to me. My family are all muggles as far back as my parents could remember. But it gets weirder, open the box".
Draco did as instructed, and his jaw dropped.
In the box sat a silver chain, sporting a pendant that held what looked to be a family crest. The crest, however, was what confused Mr and Mrs Malfoy. On the crest were a dragon and a phoenix intertwined with one another.
Draco instantly recognized the scene as the same scene depicted on a metal bench he and Hermione had sat on in a dream they both had explored after they had been hit with a strange spell during their eighth year at Hogwarts. That dream is what brought them together. Eventually, that led to the birth of their children. Draco and Hermione had been curious about the twins' coordinating birthmarks when they were born. On Scorpius' back right shoulder was the image of a dragon, while Cassie had an image of a phoenix in the same spot. At the time, they wrote it off as residual magic from the dream, even though they were born almost 5 years after the dream occurred. Now, however, it seems much more than that.
Draco picked up the necklace and ran his wand over it, checking for any charms or enchantments. His wand glowed at the tip when it passed over the pendant.
"What does that mean?" Hermione was stunned. Her parents had never even known the magical world existed before she grew into her magic, but here in front of them was a magical object enchanted by something unrecognizable to either one of them.
"I'm not sure, I've never seen it turn that color before." Draco carefully placed the object back in the box. "I think we should have Bill look at it; he may be able to identify the enchantment better than I can."
Hermione nodded in agreement. "We'll show it to him when we go over to the Weasleys on Sunday, until then, I'll start looking into my family's genealogy and see if that tells us anything."
Draco stood from the table and placed his empty teacup in the sink before giving her a kiss and walking back to the floo. "I think that's a good idea, I have a class soon, but during my free period I'll go down to the Hogwarts library and see what I can find. Love you".
"Love you too". Hermione just stood and stared at the necklace. What secrets could it possibly be hiding?
