Season 3: Episode 2
The tension was palpable in the police station, at least with Miranda Morales who could see the terror in her husband's eyes. She understood it and felt the same way.
"Eliza?" Louis asked warily. "What's going on, why are mom and dad acting this way?"
"I...I don't know, Louis." She told her brother worriedly. "I wonder if it's got something to do with that phone call."
Indeed, after the phone call, after that phrase that was spoken, 'Plata o plomo', her dad had hung up and instantly called Louis and Miranda to the hall before quickly telling them all to get ready and heading out to the car, taking them straight to the police station. Now they were waiting to be seen, with Mr. Morales having instantly explained about the phone call and what was said.
'I've never seen Jose in such a state...that phone call, Plata o plomo?' Miranda wondered worriedly. 'Silver or lead. Why would someone-?'
Her thoughts were interrupted by the approach of a familiar officers.
"Mr. Morales, Mrs. Morales...what's going on?" Rick asked as he looked between them, warily.
He could see the fear in Mr. Morales' eyes.
"This, we should talk privately." Was all Mr. Morales said.
Rick quirked an eyebrow but nodded and led the way to the first available interview room. Miranda was even more surprised and worried as her husband insisted on the kids being kept out of the room, but still under careful watch by the other officers.
Inside the interview room the three adults all sat down, now Rick was even more suspicious, and worried.
"Can you...tell me what this is all about? You've come in here frantic, requesting to speak to an officer discreetly about a dangerous situation that your family is facing...you're trying to keep your children from overhearing it, yet want to make sure they are watched carefully?" Rick queried. "This isn't like you, Mr. Morales?"
Morales nodded, his expression tight. "I know and I'm sorry. But the kids...they'll be terrified if they hear about this. But I need to talk about it. You were told about the phone call I got?"
Rick nodded. "Yes, Plata o plomo, silver or lead. Obviously a threat but-"
"But this time it's different. It's an old cartel saying, but I recognized the voice and these guys...they're not a cartel, they're so much worse." Morale replied quickly.
"Alright...if that's true, shouldn't we escalate this, the FBI or something?" Rick asked.
Morales sighed. "That would just...shine a spotlight on my family...you don't know these people, our only chance is that they don't know our exact location right now...We had to come all the way here in the first place to escape them."
"Who?"
Miranda looked to her husband worriedly as he took a shaky breath, she was beginning to see, remembering herself the reason for their flight from their old home.
Sure enough, after taking a moment to compose himself, the Morales family patriarch revealed just who had so drastically scared him.
"The man who called me, his name is Simon, he's a crazy, monstrous man, the worst of criminals. But the man he works for is even worse...their whole group is just terrifying, they even scare the cartels." He explained. "They're called the Saviours and their leader, is a man named Negan Smith."
Rick paused for a moment, taking this in. "I was asked to handle this case for you, I'll admit, I was confused as to why you need me…?"
"We trust you and we know you're dedicated to getting justice, stopping people like this." Miranda admitted.
"Maybe but...I'm just one officer and like you said, getting the FBI involved would put a spotlight on your family, but...I might not have a choice." Rick explained. "They have more resources and more means to take down a group like this, though I must ask...are they really all that bad?"
"Their leader, Negan, is the most dangerous and terrifying man I know of...you're talking about a man who leads a group that can charge cartels for protection money." Morales revealed. "I had a bad run-in with him years ago and I've been fleeing him ever since...but he just keeps finding me."
Rick grimaced but finally nodded. "Alright, I see what you're saying...I personally think you're asking for a miracle with me...but I'll do everything in my power."
The Morales parents nodded, just hoping that Rick would indeed be able to help and that their children didn't need to learn the full terror of what they were facing.

Unaware of the dangers being faced by the Morales family, Beth smiled as she settled onto the sofa at her family home, wasting no time bringing her lips to meet Brian's as they spent time enjoying themselves, making out, Brian's hand rest on Beth's thigh, right at the hem of her short dress. Not that she minded at all, it was only the fear that her father would return home at any moment that stopped her from asking him to maybe slip his hand a little higher up her leg.
"Wow, that's...we should…" Brian said breathlessly as they parted.
"I know." Beth replied. "But dad will be home soon. Don't worry, we'll have plenty of time to have fun over the summer, right, starting tomorrow?"
Brian nodded. "Yeah, you're right. I just hope the others are ready. I can't wait."
"Me too, Brian, me too." Beth said warmly.
Their eyes met and brightened as they took a moment to drink in the warmth of each other's appearance before their lips met yet again, determined to have every moment they could before Hershel arrived home.

Still fuming at what he had seen at the school as the day ended for summer vacation, Shane drove slowly down the street, he had seen Carl, still acting out by being with that boy, it was getting ridiculous he felt, that this was continuing and nothing being done about it. He glared at Lori as he drove down the street, watching her walking back home, carrying a number of shopping bags.
'She can't keep pretending like this, how long is she letting this farce continue. Pretending that I'm not the better man for her, the better person to raise Carl, to stop him from making this mistake his life. Teach him to be a real man.' Shane thought bitterly.
What he didn't realize was that, for all his efforts at being 'subtle', Lori was fully aware of his stalking and was already preparing to contact the police station to add to the growing list they were developing on Shane. Returning home she got to work putting the shopping away, smiling at Carl who was on his phone, talking to his boyfriend. Smiling back to his mom, Carl turned his full attention back to his phone.
"So Jamie, you ready for tomorrow?"
Jamie replied at once. "You bet I am, going to the local pool for some swimming, I take it everybody will be there?"
"Yup, all for our first taste of summer fun." Carl confirmed.
Jamie laughed. "Can't wait."
Indeed, Carl agreed, neither could he.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
