Dragon thoughts

When he arrived in Teirm, he inspired the appropriate amount of fear and respect. A quick question to the representative while scanning his mind. Revealed that he was not skimming money and was always truthful when reporting the collected taxes.

He was amused at the trick, no doubt by the magician here trying to escape custody, but the Ra'zac had already sent a message saying that they had captured the magician. What made his day even better was that the magician was the source of the magic surge he had sensed. The residue clung to him like a second skin, making it easy for the Ra'zac to track him down.

After giving praises to the tax collecter, he assured him that he was very pleased with his work. He made the appropriate excuses and prepared to leave Teirm. His good mood only rose higher when a servant ran out of the building with a scroll contaning Durzas message that he had located the carrier of the red egg and was closing in on her. His mood lasted all of 30 seconds before he felt the proximity alarm on his throne monitoring the last two eggs trip.

His mood plumeted as he jumped on Shurikan and took off flying as fast as possible he flew for three days straight. Day and night flooding Shurikan with the energy from the eldunarì he carried with him. His mood only worsened the longer it took to reach the city. By the time he arrived, the city guards were all over the city, clearly searching for someone. "Report." he barked to a soilder passing by.

"Sir, the prisoner managed to escape." The soilder said while trying to catch his breath.

"How?" He demanded.

"We don't know sir we only know that the two guards that were posted by his cell were knocked out one of them was stripped of his armor and the wards on the cell only triggered after the guards woke up and tried to escape." The soilder recounted. His eyes widened a fraction as he ran through the castle immediately heading to the throne room.

When he arrived, he went straight to the egg room, disabling the wards and opening the door. He saw both the green egg and the blue egg still sitting in the same place as when he last checked on them. Sighing in relief, he reached out with his magic to scan them. Only to find nothing, no consence, no heartbeat, no signs of life. "Impossible." he breathed in denial and mounting rage. "He couldn't have killed them."

Disabling the wards, he picked the green stone up immediately he could tell something was wrong using all the spells he knew. Even the blackest of magic he learned from Durza, he scanned the egg in depth. He screamed in rage before throwing the egg against the wall, shattering it and dispelling the spells on it, turning it back to the plain stone it was before it disappeared. He never noticed this too consumed with scanning the blue egg.

His rage mounting when he discovered that it also had no signs of life no matter what spell he used. Throwing it to the floor, he headed to his scrying room, never noticing the remains of the blue egg vanishing like the green one before it. Approaching his scrying chamber, his rage was nearly blinding when he opened the door to discover the room in shambles.

All of the mirrors were either cracked or broken. Fortunately, it was still operational. If only barely he stepped into the water, causing ripples. He used his magic and forced it to calm. Then he started scrying for Durza and the last live dragon egg. He saw Durza riding in a forest, heading to the last location of the elf. The red egg was surrounded by white. "Useless." He snarled, leaving the room he headed for the interrogation chamber only to be attacked by some sort of fire magic when he opened the door.

He managed to put it out with barely a singe on his clothes, but everything inside was ashes. His fury was starting to make his vision flash red. Closing the door, he proceeded to the next important room. Only to find his armory empty his trophies from the riders he defeated during the fall were gone. He froze. "If he got in here then." He thought his rage quickly, turing to fear.

Before turning and running to the only warded door in the corridor. Disabling the wards as fast as he could, almost ripping them down. He discovered that his eldunarí were gone. True, the ones in this room were just the ones he hadn't completely broken yet, but they still represented a large part of his power. His rage finally boiled over, and he let out a feral, animalistic scream releasing a burst of magic shaking the entire city.

Turning, he stormed to the treasury determined to put a massive bounty on the magician. Only to find it empty not only had the eggs been killed and his eldunarí been stolen but the royal treasury was empty. He had passed raging and entered a calm, silent wrath. "I will have my revenge." he wispered to the empty room, "And you will wish you had never been born this, I promise." He said, his voice echoing in the room.

Harry woke up looking at the dark cave he had taken refugee in he couldn't see anything feeling the ground shake and a magic burst. "Heh, looks like Galby finally got back to the Urû-baen." He said as he rolled over, still chuckling when he heard a faint squeak. He stilled listening but heard nothing closing his eyes he relaxed.

Then he heard the squeak agian rolling over he stood up and reached for his magic and cast Malthinae Garjzla, creating his floating light he looked around the cave but saw nothing. Then he heard a thump behind him he spun around to see the green stone on the ground. "How do you get there?" He asked curiously, then he heard the squeak agian from the stone. He began to get a bad feeling in his gut. "This seems familiar like I've seen this somewhere before." he thought to himself as the stone began to rock back and forth.

Then he remembered watching something like this with his friends back in his first year when Hagrid had won a contest with a stranger. "You're a dragon egg." He breathed as a small crack developed in the shell the hatchling still squeaking and struggling.

Harry knelt down on one knee. "Come on, you can do it." he quietly cheered, watching as the hatchling slowly struggled its way out of the shell. Eventually, the crack was big enough that he could see an amber eye looking at him. When the hatchling saw him, its efforts redoubled. Before the egg shattered apart. The hatchling squeaked as it finally came free on its back it slowly rolled over to its right side, its right wing tucked under it, squeaking it slowly, stood up, looking around the room trying to find its balance.

Standing up on four legs it started to stumble around the room sniffing everything. "Well now you're much nicer than Norbert was as a hatchling." Harry said with a smile. Looking at the hatchling he saw that its scales were the colors of forest leaves with the sun shining through them and the finest emeralds. Becoming near-white at the base of his talons. With white ivory spikes running down his back except for a space between the junction of it neck and shoulders. The hatchling turned to him after hearing his voice and slowly started stumbling to him. Harry's smile faded. "Hey now no need for all that." He said as the hatchling got within arms reach.

He held out his left hand to stop the hatchling from coming closer and prepared magic in his right to stop the hatchling from attacking him. It seemed to work the hatchling stopped and looked at his hand sniffing it. Harry stared in wonder as the hatchling did not attack him. Then he heard a voice. "Wait." turning to the voice he saw life behind him looking worried and stunned.

"What are you doing here?" He asked as the hatchling brushed its head agianst the center of his left palm. Then he felt as if ice cold water raced up his arm starting from where the hatchling had touched him. His whole body was frozen and he felt his magic core expand to thrice it size. Once the feeling of ice water receded he collapsed to the floor gasping for breath.

The hatchling was looking at him in what he thought was concern. "What was that?" he asked before he passed out. When he woke up, he felt like crap his back was sore from sleeping on the ground, and he felt the claws from the hatchling digging into his chest. Looking at it, he said "Well now you are beautiful." Harry said to the hatchling. "Much prettier than the last hatchling I saw."

The hatchling started to preen reaching up to scratch its head he saw his palm had silver diffused spiral oval. "Did you do this?" He asked the hatchling it seemed to lose interest in him and was wondering around looking for something. "Well, I guess it doesn't matter." He said, standing up and stretching.

"But it does matter, Harry." Life said. Spinning around, he saw life sitting on a chair made out of the rocks in the cave. The hatchling was playing at her feet.

Surprised, Harry asked. "What are you doing here?"

"When I saw what was happening, I came as fast as I could to try and stop this from happening." Life said while playing with the hatchling. "We had hoped that with the wyverns blood running through your veins that it would be enough to discourage any of the hatchlings from choosing you." She said with a sad smile."We should have known that it would not work for long, but this one it seems was stubborn and picked you anyway." She said with a smile, patting the hatchlings head and watching it run off deeper in the cave.

"Why would you do that?" He asked, taking deep breaths to calm his anger at being manipulated.

"It wasn't to control you if that's what you are thinking." Life said. "Do you remember the conversation you had with death before heading here?"

"Mostly, I was told the purpose I was sent here for was to make sure that the egg got where it needed to go, and after that, I could do what I wanted with this new life." He said, confused.

"That's true it was the original plan for that to happen, but as you know, some things were discovered while you were in the Urû-baen. They altered the plan slightly but still covered with the original agreement. Now, though, with the egg hatching for you, things have changed." She said.

"That reminds me death said something about others while I was grabbing the eggs. What did he mean?" He asked

"The others are our siblings Destiny, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium. Only they have the power hide something from Deaths vision. One of them is interfering in this world natural progression. Death is trying to narrow it down, but he is not having any luck so far." She answered fists clenching together. "The fact that they are bold enough to make a move like this means that they think they have enough power to fight Death at least to a stand still."

"That's not good, is it?" Harry asked.

"No, it's not, but you don't have to worry about that. Let us handle our siblings. Now back to the problem at hand." She said, taking a deep breath and slowly letting it out tension, visibly leaving her shoulders. "Since we did not think an egg would hatch for you with the wyverns blood running in your veins. Death neglected to mention that the riders and the dragons in this world had eternal youth."

"What?" Harry asked is shock, his eyes widened and mouth slightly ajar. A feeling of dread quickly mounting.

"Yes, barring a sickness or falling in battle, the riders would live forever." She said a sad look in her eyes. "It's why we hoped that the wyverns blood would keep any of the eggs from choosing you. Unfortunately, that went out the window when this one chose you." She said, gesturing to the hatchling.

"How did this happen?" Harry asked dully, still trying to process his now immortal life.

"I was hoping you could tell me that. The last time we checked on you was when you had escaped the Urû-baen." Life asked. Watching as the hatchling ran back to Harry and rubbed against his leg, finally finished exploring the cave.

Feeling the hatchling head and body rub against his leg, he reached down and absent mindedly stroked down the hatchling back. "Well, after I escaped the city, I managed to use line of sight apperation and reach an old den the Ra'zac dug while they were taking me to the Urû-baen. When I arrived, I put some wards and got something to eat and bathed myself. Then I went to sleep, though I heard one of the eggs roll and hit the ground. I picked it up and put it back on the shelf." He said, explaining what had happened from his perspective.

"It must have been this one that fell then." Life said. "You said that it fell on its own?" She questioned.

"Yes." Harry replied.

"That's not good. The one interfering here must have set this in motion. Why, though?" she asked herself.

"Perhaps as a distraction." Harry answered, still playing with the hatchling.

"A distraction. Yes, that makes sense. We must be getting close to them." She said.

"What about this?" Harry asked, gesturing between himself and the hatchling.

"Nothing changes." She said with a shrug. "I'm quoting Death here when I say a deals a deal. Once the blue egg is sent where it needs to be, you are free to do what you want with this life. It's just longer than you or I thought it would be." She said with a slight smile watching Harry play with the hatchling.

"Can you fix this?" Harry asked quietly.

"I could, but it would require killing the hatchling." She said just as quietly. Pulling the hatchling to his chest instinctively to protect it.

"No." He said quietly.

"Rest assured, Harry, the dragons of this world are not like the ones of your old world. They are far more intelligent and capable of much more. The bond you feel goes both ways how you feel about the hatchling is how it will feel about you once it gets older." She said, trying to assure him about his new life and circumstances.

"What about Daphne? I was told I could see her when this was over." He asked, looking up to meet her eyes.

"I've been told that Death has a plan for that he just has to change something around now." She said more upbeat than she had been for the last few minutes. Standing up, she walked up to him and ruffled his hair, "But I still owe you a ritual." She said, passing the information into his mind. "That will fix the issues with the wyvern blood and replace it with real dragons blood."

Absorbing the information, he massaged his head, trying to relieve the sudden headache. Once the headache faded away, he became aware of a tiny head bumping against his leg, trying to get his attention. Looking down at the hatchling, he said. "I'm alright, little one. It's just a headache. it's already going away." The hatchling seemingly happy that he was fine proceeded to curl up into a ball on his lap and closed its eyes. "How am I going to take care of a dragon?" He asked life.

"Don't worry about that they are mostly self-sufficient after hatching. The only thing you will have to do right now is protect it until it's old enough to do it itself." She answered.

"I don't even know what gender it is or any dragon names." Harry said, getting more worried as more thoughts came to him.

"First, take a deep breath and calm down." Life said. "Second, the little one is a male, and third, in the original timeline, he chose the name Fìrnen. He might like it in this timeline as well."

"Fìrnen huh its as good a name as any." Harry shrugged. "How about it, then little guy, do you like the name Fìrnen." The hatchling seemed to perk up at the sound of the name and contemplate the name for a few minutes before giving an agreeable chirp.

"You're right. This little guy seems much nicer and more intelligent than Norbert was." Harry said.

"I know." Life said amused. "Now I have to go and help Death figure out which of our siblings is causing the changes here. Stay safe even though Death would never admit it. You are his favorite." She said, fading away with a laugh.

Once she was gone, Harry let out a sigh. "I should have expected something like this." He said to Fìrnen. "Especially after the whole experience with being captured and taken to the Urû-baen but somehow I never do. Someday, though, I won't be taken off guard by things like this."

Fìrnen seemed to lose interest halfway through Harry talking to him and wandering over to the remains of the rabbits and knocking the bones over and started to gnaw on one of the bigger bones

"Hold on, little guy." Harry said with a chuckle. I'll get us some fresh rabbits, and you can have some meat." Turning to the opening of the cave, he cast the spell to summon a few rabbiys to him. He felt the spell sart to activate like normal, but then it went wrong. He felt as the spell started to cannibalize his bodies energy reserves instead of using the magic in his core.

Panicking he tried to end the spell but his core recognized a threat to his well being and attacked the spell rejecting its hold on his body the magics had a bad reaction to each other and started to fight each other. Each time the magics collided, he felt like time explosions were going off inside his body.

When they finally finished and settled back down, he was able to focus on the outside world again. He felt and heard as Fìrnen tried to get his attention and make sure he was okay. After assuring him that he was the only thing he could think was, "What the hell was that?"
