The Morning of the Big Day

As soon as the sun rose, Aziraphale called Crowley.

"Angel?" Crowley's voice betrayed his concern. Aziraphale never called unless it was urgent.

"Crowley, are you sure? Do we need to do this? Are we inviting trouble?" All the anxieties that had stayed away since God declared their partnership as "Good" had danced their way into the angel's head overnight. "I can't do this – something will happen – I can't lose you!"

"Angel, Angel…." "I knew we shouldn't have spent last night apart." He thought, but he, Raph, and Muriel had prepared for this. He took a breath and calmed his tone. "You are having a normal reaction to centuries of dealing with our sides. PTSD, they call it. Take a breath, sit down, and listen."

Crowley waited, imagining his Angel pacing a circuitous route to his chair, until he heard a small voice on the line say, "I'm sitting."

"Put the phone on speaker and set it on the desk. That way you don't drop the phone with your handwringing."

He heard some fumbling on the other end. "I think it's THIS button. IT'S ON SPEAKER. I'm setting it down."

Crowley rolled his eyes, "typical Angel". A shot of whisky materialized in his hand. He downed it and began. "Aziraphale. Didn't Jesus bless us?"

"He did."

"And God. GOD told us to our faces that we could go, with Her blessing; that our partnership was Good?"

"She did."

Crowley took another breath. "Angel, I fell for questioning God, and She is letting me be part of "Us". Are you going to question God? After eons of you throwing that ridiculous word in my face every time I came close to questioning Her? What was that word, Angel?"

"Ineffable."

"Aziraphale. I love you/ you love me. We can say it out loud. We are already "Us". We. Are. Ineffable. Today, we're just having a little celebration with our friends." Silence on the other end. "Angel?"

A slightly tearful voice answered, "I'm here Dearest. My eye just caught our bauble from The Garden. You've loved me that long, nearly Forever. I'm being foolish, making you persuade me yet again. I do love you, Crowley. We are …" the voice trailed off, Crowley could hear some gasping.

"Say it, Angel."

"..sniff…ineffable."

Crowley smiled and nodded, then said reassuringly, "There you go! I talk you down when you get flighty; you talk me up when I wallow. It's part of our makeup, Angel. Now, go have that 'lovely breakfast' you planned. I may have put a little surprise next to your tea. Nina and Maggie will be there at 11:00, and I will see you this afternoon. We have a wedding to attend."

"Our wedding." So much love and pride put into those words by his Angel. "Thank you, My Love."

"Always, Angel. Are we good now?" Crowley could almost hear the the curls waving as Aziraphale nodded. "Good. I'm meeting Warlock and we'll be waiting for you at Jasmine Cottage. See you then."

Crowley relaxed as the connection dropped and turned to the Plants who had lived with him in the car and helped adjust to life after Hell: Ambrose, Delphine, Hugo, Sonya, and Jemimah. "Thank you for the extra oxygen, guys. It really helped me get through that." The Plants grew just a little taller and whispered their assurances. Crowley sprayed them with the mister and smiled. "Time for a wedding!"

Aziraphale put his phone in his pocket and walked to the kitchen. Next to his teapot, was a small box. Opening it revealed a new watch fob. A fine gold chain with a small oval dangle. Engraved on one side were the words "My Angel", on the other, "Our Side" and an infinity symbol. He held it up, admiring it. "My Love," he said out loud as his thumb traced the infinity sign. "Our Wedding Day."
