Chapter 1: A New Life

~Sami's POV~

I was sitting at my tent and sharpening my hunting knife before heading out to get meat for the group. I would even help Glenn with planning trips to the city when he would ask for my help. I would always help him if needed and he even asked me to do trips to the city sometimes. As I got up, I would grab my bow and arrows and let Dale know, who was on watch, that I was heading out to find some meat and that it would take a while. He understood that hunting is an art to hunters. As I walking in the woods and made sure to be quiet while hunting for animals that I can find and kill. That's when I came across 2 others not far from the quarry. I overheard them speaking and I came into view after taking down a walker that was coming near them.

"Best be careful." I said as I went over and grabbed her arrow from the walker's head.

"And who are you sugar tits." Merle asked as he looked over at me.

"I could say the same to you since you were getting walkers to come over to where you stood." I sassed Merle out and smirked as Daryl chuckles softly.

"Shut up Daryl. I'm Merle and this is my brother Daryl." Merle said.

"I'm Samantha but call me Sami for short." I said.

"Do you have a place nearby?" Daryl asked.

"Yeah, A camp nearby and I will bring you there." I said as I would give them directions since they had vehicles.

I headed back after getting some squirrels and waved softly at Dale. I let Shane know about 2 new people named Merle and Daryl. Shane understood and would let them help around and stay at the camp. I would start working on skinning the squirrels that I got and made sure the meat was ready for Carol and Jackie. I knew that Lori and Shane are up to something. That's when Daryl and Merle came to the camp, I just nod towards Daryl when he spotted me. I finished skinning and helped to cut the meat for Carol and made sure that the fur and guts are away from where they are camping at. I would wash off the blood on my hands and arms. I would smile softly when Carl asked me how to defend himself, I told him to ask his mother if it was ok to teach him how to use a pocket knife safely and he would ask Lori if it was ok for him to learn to know how to handle a pocket knife and she didn't mind.

~Daryl's POV~

I watched as Sami came back after cleaning herself up and saw how she treated Carl like a little brother. I was thinking about what happened in her past that she would keep some people at a distance like my brother Merle and Ed, who I learned that would beat Carol and Sophia. I told Shane that I could hunt with Sami and let him know that Merle maybe an idiot and a bit sexist. I would go to where I set up mine and Merle's tent and I would watch as Sami taught Carl and Sophia on how to use a pocket knife. I wondered if I could learn her past before this new shitty world. I grunted as Merle started to pick on me about my crush on Sami. I didn't let it get to me as I started to sharpen my knife as Dinner is served for the group. After dinner, I overheard Sami and Glenn on planning for the next trip to the city that is gonna happen in a few days.

A few weeks later, I told Sami that I was gonna go get the deer for the group and Sami wished me luck as she helped Glenn with planning for another trip to the city. I would blush lightly as Sami gave me a smile before I headed out to go find a deer for the group and not knowing that Merle is going to the city and to get stuff for the group. I didn't know that something is gonna happen to Merle, but I kept my mind clear as I started to hunt and find that deer.

~Sami's POV~

I would watch Daryl head off to find that deer on his hunting trip before helping Glenn with planning the trip to Atlanta city for the group. As we finished the planning when Jackie, Andrea, T-dog, Morales and even Merle asked Glenn to join him on this trip. Glenn allowed it and would head out with them to Atlanta city. I just hope that they come back before sundown. I would trade places with Shane to watch out for any walkers that might come near the camp. I would keep an eye out and thought about Daryl here and there. I would switch with Dale after a few hours, I would go to get whatever mushrooms for Amy since she hasn't seen Lori. I knew right then and there that Lori and Shane are hooking up. I would grab wood for the fire of dinner and even for the fire that night as well as getting mushrooms. I would return before Lori and Shane.

I know that Daryl would return to the camp with the deer and whatever meat he caught. As I helped out with dinner and make sure everything is alright before eating. What I didn't know that Merle might be left behind by accident and Daryl would be pissed off at anyone but her and the kids. A few hours after dinner is when we started hearing a car blaring. I crossed my arms as Glenn got out and started to tell Shane that he got a cool car and answered Amy by saying that Andrea is alright. As the others got out of the truck, I noticed Merle ain't with them and knew that her gut feeling was right. Then I watched as Lori and Carl reunite with a guy named Rick. I asked T-Dog where the hell was Merle. T-Dog told me that Merle was left behind on a roof and I told him that Daryl is gonna be pissed about Merle not being here.
