Expect a little more action in this chapter.
As Remilia leaves the computer room, she starts to wonder what will await her on the other side. Maybe there will be tons of soldiers pointing their weapons at the door and about to GET AN EYEFUL! Or maybe Yukari and that tengu reporter are waiting for her to open the door to take pictures of her for the next issue of that tengu's newspaper. Or maybe all the "volunteers" are behind the door pointing high pressure water guns and ready to activate the sprinklers just to have a shot at doing THAT to her!
Either way, she decides to use her wings and arms to cover her naked body for safety measures. Though considering she was already out of the room, it's safe to say it's a bit late to cover herself like that.
And besides, the corridor is deserted. Not a single living being can be seen. Except for Remi herself, of course. But she considers that maybe one of those Schizophrenia Monsters is there. Better safe than sorry, Remi starts shooting red bullets everywhere. No big lethal bullets, these might start the sprinklers.
Speaking of sprinklers, now would be a good time to check if Voice Guy was lying about them or not. Remi looks up to the ceiling and sees those neon ceiling lights that she once saw in Kourindo. And what appears to be shower heads coming out of pipes stuck to the ceiling. "Damn it, he was telling the truth. Better watch out for artificial sunlight, then." Thought Remilia.
That's when Remi noticed that there was a note on the door to the computer room. It's the same handwriting as the note that was in the computer room. No doubt about it, Voice Guy has another thing to tell her.
"If you are reading this, this means you've successfully made it out of the computer room. Now, in order to go from Sector to Sector, you will need to find the Sector Access on the Sector you are in. In the case of Sector 1, you will need to get to the main elevator. Unfortunately, it only goes from Sector 1 to Sector 2. You can find the elevator if turn right and go all the way across the corridor until you reach it. I will have more information once you reach it. While this corridor is empty, you will most likely encounter some resistance as you make your way to the elevator. No large threat, but it would still be wise to prepare yourself for any possible hostile encounter. May fate be on your side."
So it's to her right, it seems. Remi was quick to follow Voice Guy's instruction while looking out for potential traps he may have neglected to mention. While she found no unmentioned traps, she eventually noticed her first opponents.
There, in plain view in the corridor, she can see half a dozen corpses walking around. No doubt about it, these are the Plague Doctor's zombies. "Walkers" to be precise. Remi quickly remembers what she read about them. Unlike the common zombie from popular culture, none of the Plague Doctor's zombies can infect other beings. So all that walkers do is kill by any mean. In this case, they seem to be holding steel pipes. The profile did mention that walkers can use basic weapons such as blunt object and blades.
One of the walkers noticed the newcomer and tried to take a swing. Only to lose his head and collapse.
"As if I'll let you touch me, you rotting pile of flesh." Said Remilia after landing that impressive headshot. The other walkers were soon to join him as Remi made quick work of them.
After that, Remi resumed her trip to the elevator. Nothing to write home about. More walkers, all taken out.
Once she made it to the main elevator, Remi noticed that it's a pretty impressive one. Pretty big, almost entirely made of glass. Remi hoped that no one would see her naked once she gets inside. She quickly noticed a panel to control it but it appears to be unresponsive. That is when Remi noticed the four colorful slits on the panel. One red, one blue, one yellow and one green. "Oh great, MORE key-cards to gather. Just what I needed" Thought Remilia sarcastically. She saw the note under the panel soon after. She took it and to read and, yup, that's his hand writing, all right.
"If you are reading this, it means that you found the main elevator. As you can see, it requires four colored key-cards to open. Since P.A.R.A.S.O.L. staff neglect to give clues of the whereabouts of puzzle items, I'll just tell you myself where to find them. The red key-card can normally be found in the drink dispenser at the cafeteria, but it requires money to operate, something you don't have at the moment. But HE, on other other hand, certainly has money. You won't need to look for him for he is looking for you, you will meet him sooner than later. The blue key-card, meanwhile, should normally be found in the break room's pool table. But it also require money to operate and the whole thing is in shambles since the breach, anyway. But I know that the Plague Doctor, who caused the damage to the break room to begin with, must've had his strongest zombie deployed in Sector hold on to the key-card to both prevent anyone from going through the main elevator and to lure in anyone who would want to take the elevator, making them easy targets. The zombie should still be in the break room and shouldn't be too much problem for you. The yellow key-card is normally held by the guard assigned to the main elevator who will only give the card if one can solve all his riddles. But even if he was still alive, I know that YOU would not be allowed to even ask politely to try solving them. You will probably find him on your right."
At this, Remi looked to her and noticed what appears to be the corpse of a security guard that appears to be rotten in specific spots more than in others, with even looking fresh. She does remember reading about a Specimen capable of such a kill: The Corpse Soldier. Just thinking about him made Remi's blood boil with rage and murderous intent. "So he is here, then? Good to know I won't have to wait long to kill him." Muttered Remilia before returning her attention to the note.
"He always goes after the yellow key-card whenever he wants to stop others from getting in the elevator. Do not bother trying to find him, he will find you. Just be sure to take the key-card from him once he does. As for the green key-card, it is held inside the backup database computer, which is located in the library to your left. Be warned that you need to place the key-cards in the correct order, otherwise the sprinklers will activate. And even if you do find the right order, activating the main elevator will attract IT, the fiercest Specimen to be contained in this sector. You will find more information about it in the backup database computer, be sure to examine the other profile in it as well. I will have more information in the library regarding the backup database computer and the right order to insert the key cards. May fate be on your side."
So it appears that Remi's next stop is in the library. She is quick to notice the large doors leading to it. Fortunately, it is not locked by multiple keys. In fact, it seems that someone already found all SIX of them! They appear to correspond to geometric forms, as well. Less wasted time for Remi, it seems. Into the library she goes.
While a normal human would be impressed by such a massive library, Remi finds it pretty small compared to the one she has in the SDM. She easily finds the backup database computer, which appears to be a much older model of computer than the ones in the computer room. In fact, she remembers seeing such a computer in Kourindo. She quickly notices something on top of the computer. It's a tape recorder. Remi wonder's what's up but starts it anyway. To no one's surprise, Voice Guy's, well, voice is head from the recorder.
"If you are hearing this, it means that you found the backup database computer in the library. In order to use it, you need to find a floppy disk hidden in the library and enter a password that can be found in one of the books. And the location of the floppy disk and the password change every day. The floppy disk and password can only be found by someone who went to the library's official website in the morning. Website that is only located in the facility's local network. But there is always someone who goes to the library every day to look into the backup database computer wondering if there is anything new in the database. He is the one who opened the door and considering the current circumstances, you can find him to your left with the floppy disk and book with the password."
At this, Remi looked to her left and noticed what looked like the remains of a scientist. He appeared to have been ripped apart. But the book and floppy disk lying next to him were miraculously intact with not a single drop of blood. Remi also noticed what appears to be a puddle of goo a few meters away from the backup database computer. As she picked up the book and floppy disk, Voice Guy resumed his speech.
"By now, you probably have both the floppy disk and the book in your hands. The book has one word in it that is highlighted, that highlighted word is the password. The floppy disk contains a "poem" (Remi could literally HEAR the quotation marks) in which the order to insert the key-cards can be found. You may also read the two profiles that aren't in the main database computer. It would be wise to learn about these two specimen before they take you by surprise. now, may fate be on your side."
And with that, the tape has done playing. Now to activate this backup database computer.
Remilia is quick to go through the book. It appears to be an erotic novel. And a vulgar one at that. She quickly finds the highlighted word...it's the C-Word. The word that some consider an even more taboo word than the F-Word. Remi is absolutely ENRAGED by such blatant behavior from alleged professionals. She finds their preferences absolutely INFURIATING! Once she finds the people who pick the passwords in this facility, she will drink their blood from their skulls.
After this bout of rage, she inserts the floppy disk and the computer turns on. She can barely look at the keyboard or the screen as she is entering the password. But she somehow manages to enter the password and the first thing she does is check the content of the floppy disk to find the "poem". How bad can it be?
"Roses are red
Water is blue
Buttercups are yellow
Leaves are green"
Remi proceeded to find a nearby desk to slam her head in, smashing the desk to pieces.
"THIS, DOESN'T, EVEN, RIME!" She yelled with every hit. Oddly enough, no one heard her.
After yet another bout of rage, Remi returned to the computer to have a look at the two profiles that weren't in the main database computer.
First, she took a look at the profile for "Specimen Spiderpede" ("Still as great with names, I see." Remi thought sarcastically). The photo shows a weird bug that looks like a cross between a spider and a centipede. No guess as to where the name comes from. Spiderpede is described as very hostile and to be able to hunt gorillas and an entire pack hyenas. It has a long history of breaking out and every breach causing lots of casualties. It's reproduction cycle requires it to lay eggs in females of other species to "keep them warm enough until it is time to hatch" ("Ew"). P.A.R.A.S.O.L. works on making Spiderpede an attack dog of sorts ("I am not even surprised by this, anymore" Thought Remi).
"Is that the "IT" that Voice Guy mentioned?" Remi asked to herself. The only way to find out was to have a look at the other profile and see which one might be IT.
So the other one is about "Specimen Glob-Blob"("Now their names are just silly..."). The photo shows some kind of slime monster with a vague humanoid look, pointy teeth, sharp claws and no visible eyes. He is apparently extremely hostile ("Which one isn't, by now?" Remi asked to herself) and known for violently ripping his targets apart. He leaves puddles of goo wherever he goes and has awareness of anyone near the puddles, not to mention that he can one-use teleport himself from puddle to puddle. But he is known to take his time before using a puddle to attack someone. P.A.R.A.S.O.L. is working on making him an ("other") attack dog of some kind and on exploiting his slime puddles so that others can teleport like him.
"Now that I think about it, the other guy was ripped apart just like how, ugh, Glob-Blob's profile says he does... Wait a minute. Isn't that a puddle of goo behind me? Then this could only mean that..." And with those words, she prepares herself for battle. And right on time, too. Right as she takes a battle stance, an awful sound is heard behind her.
BGM: Divine Combat from The Binding of Isaac
Remilia shoots a barrage of bullets at the vaguely humanoid monster before he could even take a "step" forward.
"As if you even have the right to touch me with these slimy claws of yours."
Glob-Blob was surprisingly quick to recover, though. And started spiting goo everywhere, creating so many puddles Remi refused to get on the ground, deciding to remain airborne. Because yes, she can fly. Those wings aren't just for show.
Remilia was able to evade all of her opponent's shots with ease. She's used to much worse when it comes to being shot at. Even fairies have tougher patterns than this guy.
"Now it my turn! Scarlet Netherworld" Exclaimed Remilia as she launched a massive barrage of bullets that were spreading and a revolving around her. Sure, she knew this wasn't a non-lethal Spell Card duel, but old habits die hard. Besides, these bullets are most definitely lethal, right now.
But Glob-Blob jumped in one of his newly created puddles and evaded the attack. "Slimy coward, I should've known that was your intention from the-Whoa there!" Said Remilia as she barely dodged her foe's sneak attack. He tried to slash at her wings, but it proved ineffective. But before Remi could retaliate, he was already gone in another puddle.
He then tried to shoot her in the back, but she barrel-rolled out of the way. He then teleported right bellow her and almost shoved his slimy, clawed hand into her...private hole. But he was too slow to and she evaded the attack. But the attack wasn't without any effects, she was now red from head to toes from the embarrassment of having her privates being targeted and the BURNING RAGE she was filled with for the same reasons with tears of frustration forming in her eyes.
"HOW DARE YOU CALL UPON SUCH TACTICS AGAINST ME, THE QUEEN OF VAMPIRES?! EVERYONE IN THIS FACILITY IS A GODS FORSAKEN PERVERT! NOW YOU WILL KNOW THE TRUE WRATH OF THE SCARLET DE-" And that's when she realized that he was lunging at her claws and teeth first. She knew she was in no focused state to evade him.
As his claws made contact, Glob-Blob's opponent was sliced in half before bursting into a shower of...bats? Glob-Blob looked around him in confusion, why does she bleed bats? That's when he felt a spear impaling him.
"Well well well, you're smarter than you look. But I can play the sneaky "teleport in your blind spots" game, too. Now DIE!"
Just as he caught a glimpse of the Scarlet Devil's face which had gone from looking like a angry child about to cry to a sneer of pure rage with red eyes brighter than the library's lights, she shoved the other spear she was holding down his throat.
He tried to scream in his distorted inhuman voicce, but with the spear down his throat he could sputter nothing but inhuman choking. He tried to escape the library through a puddle, but it was too late. Remilia Scarlet was done playing.
"You'll be the first specimen I send to Hell. Say hello to Hecatia for me. SPEAR THE GUGNIR"
And with that, Remi had manifested another spear and threw it in his chest with enough force to send him flying.
"It's OVER!" She exclaimed as she snapped her fingers, making all three spears explode, destroying Glob-Blob completely. With all the puddles he made going out with him.
BGM ends
And just like that, it was over.
Specimen Glob-Blob: Annihilated
"I've wasted too much time and effort on this pile of goo. I shouldn't just expect all my foes to be brain dead morons. I should be more careful regarding the abilities of specimens in the future. I better have a look at all the information I have access to before I leave." And with that, she went back to the backup database computer to reexamine every profile available so that she could be more prepared as to what her enemies could pull on her.
"Now all that's left is to-oh right! The key-card!" Remembered Remi as she chose the "Get key-card" option and the green key-card came out of a slit in the computer.
Since she has no pockets and she doesn't trust any place to be safe, anymore. She just decides to carry the key-card in her hand and she'll just find a place to drop it whenever she gets in a tough enough fight.
But she was now worried that everyone in this facility might try such naughty tactics on her. She could REALLY use some clothes if everyone is perverted like that even when in battle...
Well, that certainly was a lot more exposition than even I expected. Even I expected more action in this chapter. But now I can safely say that exposition time should be over for this Sector.
As you can see, the foes aren't just based on SCPs.
Anyway, this was my very first fight scene I've ever written. I hope it was a good one...
