Chapter 3: Nightmare Night
The Drive to the house was quiet as Bluey and Bingo sat next to each other watching cartoons. Shaun however was just staring down at the floor of the jeep with a blank expression. Bandit looked back and noticed this and decided to talk to him.
"Hey kid I noticed you got a bit of a different accent than us, mind telling me where you're from?"
Shaun snapped back and replied to Bandit, "Oh I'm from America, Mrs. Heeler."
Bandit nodded, "Ah that explains it, I was gonna take my family there to Florida, but after hearing about something bad happening there I decided not to. Oh, and by the way you don't have to be so formal with me, just Bandit is fine."
Bandit talked to Shaun a bit to find out more about him and learned he is from Tennessee before pulling into the driveway of his house, located in a nice Cul-de-sac. "Okay kiddos! We are Home!"
"Hooray!" the kids shouted in unison.
They all walked up to the front door and Bandit knocked and opened it. Everyone entered besides Shaun, who was scared and standing outside. Bingo looked back and grabbed his hand.
"It's okay Shaun, you'll have fun here until your parents find you!"
Shaun looked at Bingo and swallowed hard, trusting her he walked through the front door. The smell of cooked prawns filled the air, Shaun took a big whiff, and he began to drool, excited to taste them. After Bandit closed the front door his wife, Chili Heeler walked out of the kitchen to greet him and her kids. She was also an orange Heeler like Bingo, but only had brown fur on the right side of her eye and had spots like Bluey.
"There's my Big Blue Guy!" she said as she walked up to Bandit and kissed him. "I just got dinner finished"
Chilli looked over and saw an unfamiliar dog hiding behind her husband. "Hey, it's okay, what's your name?"
"His name is Shaun, and he doesn't where his parents are!" Bluey butted in.
"Bluey!" Chilli and Bandit said at the same time to their daughter with a scowl on their faces.
"Hehe, oops." Bluey said quietly.
Chili then bent down and looked at him. "Is it true? Can you not find them?"
Shaun walked out from behind Bandit, "It's true ma'am, I don't even remember what they look like!" He said wearily as he sniffed and a small tear formed in his left eye.
Chili carefully put a hand on his shoulder, "Aw poor kid, don't worry my husband told me about letting you stay here with us until you go back home, we'll treat you well. And don't call me ma'am it makes me sound older, even though I am a bit old." Chilli laughed.
Shaun let out a small laugh as well and gave her a slight smile.
"Not to interrupt this moment but can we go eat? I'm starving!" Bandit chimed in.
Everyone looked at him and laughed as they grabbed some prawns and sat down to eat. Dinner time went by fast as Bluey and Bingo talked to Chilli about their day at the park and Bandit showed Shaun how to eat a Prawn. After the girls finished their food they yawned and headed upstairs to get ready for bed.
Chili looked at Shaun to ask him about his parents. "So Shaun, I was told by my daughters and Bandit that you can't remember your mom or dad, do you know what you were doing before coming to the park?"
Shaun looked at her and tried to remember again. "I think I was running through some trees but after that, it's just a blur."
Bandit then entered the conversation, "Can you remember anyone else besides your parents? Like a brother or sister?"
Shaun then looked at him, "I'm pretty sure I don't have any brothers or sisters, but I do know I have a step-uncle. His name is Radley but I can't think of what he looked or sounded like."
Bandit's ears perked up, "Hey that's the name of my brother, heck what are the chances of that!?" Shaun let out a yawn. "You've had a long day, why don't you get some sleep and we continue this tomorrow yeah mate?" Bandit asked.
Shaun just nodded at him and rubbed his eyes.
"Head upstairs and brush your teeth, there's a new toothbrush on the counter you can use, don't worry it's clean." Chilli said to him.
Shaun got up from the table and put his plate in the sink as he tiredly walked towards the bathroom. After he got inside and stood on the step stool, he was finally able to see what he looked like in the mirror.
His whole body was a light gray except for the ends of his arms, legs, and tail which had white fur and his ears also had white fur on the tips. He also had white half-circles underneath his eyes. He looked at his eyes and saw they were differently colored; his left eye was a deep blue while his right eye was green. After he was done looking at himself, he brushed his teeth with the toothbrush Chilli mentioned and walked out to see Bandit waiting for him.
"This way mate, I'll show you to where you are gonna sleep." he motioned his hand for Shaun to follow him.
They walked down the hall to a room right across from Bluey's and Bingo's room, both of who were already tucked in and fast asleep. Inside the room was some stuff for a small infant beside a sleeping bag positioned in the middle.
"This used to be Bluey's and Bingo's old room when she was a baby." Bandit said looking at Shaun.
He walked inside the room and got into the sleeping bag. Before Bandit left the room he turned around and said one more thing to Shaun.
"Sleep well kiddo, I hope we find your parents or uncle."
Shaun, half-awake, thanked him for letting him stay in his house. Bandit turned off the light and shut the door, leaving a small crack for light to come through.
However unfortunately for Shaun, his first night here will not go so well.
