Chapter VI

Old Wounds.

Lin Beifong has a sister. After arriving in Zaofu, Korra met Opal, a new airbender, whose mother is Lin's estranged half-sister. Suyin and her daughter welcomed Lin with open arms, but she wanted nothing to do with them. Meanwhile, Zaheer infiltrated the air temple island looking for the Avatar. After battling with Kya, he escaped and is now a wanted man in Republic City.

Zaofu.

"Hey, has anyone seen chief Beifong?"

Mako asked as everyone sat at the table eating

"She's probably off sulking in her room." Korra sighed as she took a bite to eat.

"I know she has a problem with me, but she had no right to yell at Opal last night," Suyin said from her spot before looking at her youngest sons who walked up to get fruit from a bowl by her. "All set for your power disc game today, guys?"

"Yeah, all set to kick Wei's butt."

"I'm going to power disc your face. You should come to play with us." Wei said to Korra who looked up.

"Oh, I don't think I'd be much competition since I can't metalbend."

"Really? Lin never offered to train you?" Su asked as Korra shrugged

"Nope, and I guess I never thought to bring it up because I was learning to airbend, then there was the pro-bending, then I got tied up fighting the Equalists. It was a busy few months."

"Then the thing with your uncle after that," Naruto said from his spot by Korra. "I mean, I guess no one thought on teaching you since you're the first Avatar when metalbending's a thing."

"Well, it's probably for the best. I'm sure Lin would be a horrible teacher. As the Avatars, you should have mastery over all the elements. I'd be happy to show you the basics." Su said as Korra blinked.

"Really? That would be great." She said before Opal looked at Bolin.

"You should try it too."

"Uh, nah, I'm more of an earth guy. The dirt, rocks, you know, maybe some light gravel… That's kind of where my heart is."

"Okay, earth guy." Suyin smiled, not noticing her necklace starting to move. "Well, let me know if you change your mind." She finished before she lurched forward as her necklace was pulled.

As well as all the metal silverware on the table having everyone duck.

"It worked! Zhu-Li, mark it down."

They looked at the hall and saw Varrick and Zhu-li with Varrick wearing an armored suit.

"Magnet suit test successful. Power down. On to phase two... Zhu-Li cleans up this mess."

Varrick left as his assistant's shoulders slumped.

Outside of the guest quarters, an agitated Lin reprimands two guards for lollygagging, attracting the attention of Aiwei, who attempts to ease Lin's concerns over Korra's safety by reiterating that Zaofu is the most secure city in the world. Recognizing her discomfort about talking about her feelings, Aiwei hands Lin a card and urges her to visit a nearby acupuncturist named Guo; Lin reluctantly accepts the card.

Republic City.

In one of the abandoned buildings, Zaheer and his gang sat as spirits flew by

"Seems like you made quite a stir on air temple island. The cops are swarming the city looking for us." P'li said as Zaheer was on his knees meditating

"You still want to try to take out the president?" Gazan asked, arms crossed.

"No. He'll have to wait. We leave today." Zaheer said standing. They then went out into the trees and saw a truck being loaded with crates. "There's our ticket out of here."

They go down and hold the driver who started begging. "There's no money. I just made my last delivery."

"We don't want money."

Zaofu.

Lin is lying on a bed as a male acupuncturist prepares to correct the imbalance in her chi using needles. After several needles enter her skin, Lin comments about not being able to feel anything, prompting Guo to use more needles to compensate for what he realizes is a severe blockage of chi. Before proceeding, the acupuncturist warns Lin about his method and its ability to dig deep into an individual's most repressed memories, some of which may be particularly difficult to process.

Lin brushes the warning off and snickers, before a needle in her forehead forces her into a memory she has suppressed.

Thirty years prior, Lin, currently a police recruit, returns home to find Suyin with two suspicious boys. She calls out her half-sister for skipping her classes and immediately spots an assortment of jewelry on the table, which one of Suyin's friends crams into a bag, claiming that they fell off a truck.

Lin labels the two boys as criminals to which Suyin takes offense, grabbing the bag and walking away. Lin tells her sister that she has so much potential to explore but instead decides to waste her life; Suyin dismisses the assertion, slamming the door behind her.

Out in the yard, Naruto and Korra with wire wheels on their waist walked with Suyin to see meteorites on pedestals. "These meteorites are perfect for beginning metalbenders. The metals have a unique property, making them easier to bend." She pulled one and molds it into various shapes.

Naruto noticed she finished on a splat form. "That's amazing."

"Here, try it." She threw the two a meteorite before they tried to bend the metal.

They then heard a noise and turned to see Bolin hiding behind a rock with Pabu on his shoulder. "Bolin, is that you?" Korra asked as he tried to hide.

"No."

"What are you doing?" Naruto asked as Bolin slowly got out.

"Oh, hey. I was just, uh… I was just looking for Pabu. Pabu!"

"He's on your shoulder," Korra said as Bolin looked at Pabu who was staring at him.

"Oh, look, there you are. You know, I thought something was chewing on my ear. I'm probably gonna need to get a shot. Pabu has sort of a venom… A venom. Anyway, so what are you guys doing? You're metalbending over here or something?

"Want to give it a shot?" Suyin asked, thumbing at another meteorite.

"Nah, it's okay. I mean, only, like, one earthbender in a hundred can metalbend."

"Well, don't believe everything you hear. The only thing limiting you is your attitude." She said before Bolin made a pillar to sit on.

"You know, well, maybe I'll just… I'll just stay and watch." He said before Suyin turned to the two Avatars.

"Try to focus on the fine pieces of earth within the metal."

After a moment, their meteorites shifted. "I can't believe it. We're metalbending!"

Over with Lin, she groaned as another memory hit her.

Lin was dispatched to apprehend suspects in a robbery. As the first responding officer, she chases a runaway Satomobile through the streets by herself, thwarting the getaway by removing one of the vehicle's wheels with her cable. The vehicle crashes, and two men emerge from the wreck and try to escape, but Lin easily stops them by ensnaring them with her cables. The driver then steps out and orders Lin to stop; much to Lin's shock, the driver of the getaway Satomobile is Suyin.

Reeling from the vision, Lin accidentally metalbends the needles in her body, causing them to fly in every direction. She gets up to leave, much to Guo's dismay, who warns her that leaving in the middle of a session can result in sickness. Despite the warning, Lin returns to the guesthouse and is visited by Korra, whom she initially sees as a young Suyin due to her hallucinations. The Avatar demands that Lin apologizes to Opal for her behavior, but becomes visibly concerned by the metalbender's appearance. Lin dismisses Korra and returns to Guo, who resumes the session.

Lin expresses her anger over her sister's involvement with the Terra Triad and their theft, whom the latter defends. Although Suyin insists that she only drove the getaway car as a favor, Lin remains unconvinced and threatens her sister as the latter begins to walk away, unafraid of the arrest. Suyin dismisses her sister's warnings, prompting Lin to stop her by snagging her wrist with a cable.

Suyin unsheathes a hidden blade on her free wrist and slices the restraint; the sudden release of the cable's tension causes it to snap back, and the end, razor-sharp and flailing wildly, slashes Lin's right cheek, leaving two deep gashes.

Republic City.

"Good afternoon. Where are you off to today?"

An officer asked the driver if Zaheer was kidnapped at the exit to the city.

"I, uh, got a delivery to make in Bao Yu. I should be back later today." He said nervously as Ming-hu held an ice blade at his side from the back.

"You alright?"

"Yeah, just a little tired. One more pickup, then I'm clocking out." He replied as the officer blinked.

"I thought you said you had a delivery."

"Did I?"

"I'm gonna need you to step out of the vehicle and open the back of the truck."

The driver got out and walked to the back. And they took off running. "Hey, get back here!"

"Let's get out of here!"

Ming-hu got in the driver's seat and used her tendrils to drive the truck away as Zaheer used airbending to shoot the officers away from the back door. P'li used her combustion attacks on the cars that chased after them. Ghazan then created lava pools for the others.

Zaofu.

Bolin was trying to metalbend by himself before Opal snuck up on him.

"Hey, Bolin."

"Opal! Oh, wow. You really know how to sneak up on someone."

"What are you doing?" She asked as he dropped the meteorite.

"Oh, nothing, you know, just… Just thinking about my body and the mustaches that I might have in the future.

"You're acting weird again."

"Sorry." He sighed looking down. "I wasn't thinking about all my mustaches. I'm just... I'm just frustrated. I've been trying to metalbend, and I can't figure it out. Don't tell anyone, okay?" He asked as Opal walked over.

"Why not?"

"Because it's embarrassing. This isn't the first time I've tried. I mean, I've been wanting to metalbend ever since I heard about Toph. Your grandmother is my biggest hero."

"My mom grew up learning from Toph. Just go train with her. Stop being so scared."

"You know what? Maybe I am scared, but what about you? I know that you want to go to the Northern Air Temple to train with Tenzin, but you haven't done it because you're afraid too."

"You know what? You're right." She said as she turned. I don't want to leave my family and disappoint my mom."

"Look at us… Talking about our feelings, supporting each other." He said before hugging her.

"It's nice."

Over Lin, she started sweating as another memory hit her.

She and Suyin sit in their mother's office, discussing the latter's involvement in the robbery. Toph reprimands her daughters for putting her in an impossible position and dismisses their attempts to blame the other for the incident. Having made a decision, Toph tears up Suyin's arrest report, stunning a disbelieving Lin.

She demands that her mother not cover the incident up and urges Suyin to take responsibility for her actions, but Toph, frustrated, affirms that she cannot have a daughter in prison as the Chief of Police. Lin complains to Toph that it is unfair that Suyin is allowed to do whatever she wants without facing any consequences.

Toph retorts that she has no other options, and chooses to overlook her daughter's involvement in the crime, ordering her out of the city to live with her grandparents.

Having completed the session, Guo removes the needles and urges Lin to rest and recuperate. She refuses, stating that she only needs to do one thing she should have done years prior.

Over with Suyin, she watched as Korra and Naruto moved their larger meteorites around. "Congratulations. You're the first metalbending Avatar…. Avatars."

"So, um, I've been thinking, and I'd like to try to learn metalbending."

They stopped to see Bolin walking up as he continued. "I mean, I'm sure you have a waiting list or something, like, a couple of years, so…" He trailed off as Suyin walked up.

"Let's get started."

Suddenly, the ground cracks beneath them, and a meteorite falls and breaks. They then look to see an angry, panting Lin. "I think Lin is mad about something," Bolin said before Lin looked at her sister.

"Su, it's time we talk."

"After 30 years, you're finally ready to talk?"

"When we were in mom's office that day, you could have taken responsibility for what you did, but instead you stayed quiet and let mom throw her whole career away," Lin said walking over.

"Mom didn't throw her career away. She retired the next year. She was a hero."

"You think she wanted to retire? She was so guilt-ridden about what she did to protect you, she didn't feel worthy of her badge." Lin bit back as she panted.

"Look, I admit that I was not a perfect kid and I've made some mistakes in the past, but-" Su stopped as Lin scoffed.

"You made some mistakes?"

"Lin, mom, and I already talked about this years ago and worked things out. If you had gotten together with us as we'd asked, you would know that I'm a different person now. I've been a different person for a long time."

"You think just because you live in a big, fancy house and have a chef who cooks you fancy food that you're a different person? Maybe you can fool everyone else, but you can't fool me. I see right through you."

Su narrowed her eyes at that. "You know what, Lin? You're the one who hasn't changed. You're still a bitter loner who only cares about herself. No wonder Tenzin ended things with you years ago." Lin threw a rock at her sister who blocked it. "Okay, I guess this is how it's going to be.

Suyin trips Lin with a fissure, before knocking her off with a meteorite. Lin gets back up and earthbends a staircase, while Suyin metalbends a metal panel. Suyin bends the metal panel toward Lin, which she evades by using a backflip. Lin earthbends many fragments of small rocks to Suyin, who evades the attacks by weaving through.

"Should I stop them?" Korra asked before Bolin shook his head.

"You don't have any siblings. Fighting is all part of the healing process."

The fight continues as Lin starts earthbending toward Suyin, which she dodges with a cartwheel. Baatar, Huan, and the twins run to a pavilion.

"Go, mom!"

Lin metalbends Huan's Harmonic Convergence sculpture, which Suyin deflects and smashes into a metal wall. "My sculpture!" Huan yelled running over. Only to look at it closely. "It looks kind of better now."

Suyin metalbends three metal panels toward Lin, which she deflects. Lin begins to earthbend rocks from beneath Suyin and bends a large boulder toward her. Suyin curls a part of the metal wall to shield herself before rolling it out again, knocking Lin into the pavilion nearby, where she lands roughly on the stairs, grunting.

"You got it out of your system?" Suyin asked as Lin glared.

"Not quite yet!"

Lin earthbends a part of the staircase leading to the pavilion, while Suyin earthbends a boulder from the ground. The two of them begin to charge at each other, but Opal interferes by airbending both objects to the side. "What are you two doing? You're sisters! Why would you want to hurt each other?"

Lin then faints at that before Korra stops her from banging her head.

Later, the group stood outside Lin's quarters before Korra spoke. "Uh, who's gonna knock?" She asked before pushing Bolin up.

"Oh! No, no, no, no, no, no. Not me. You're the Avatar. Why can't you do it?"

"Uh, I can. But I just thought that you-"

"I'll do it," Mako said, knocking on the door.

"Uh, chief, you've been sleeping for 16 hours. We just wanted to make sure that you're okay. Ooh!"

The door opened, causing Mako to fall when he leaned on it to speak. And showed Lin dressed in Zaofu clothing.

"Good morning." She smiled, having Naruto take a step back as she cheerfully walked away.

"What the fu-"

Later, Lin went to the dining room and drank a smoothie before seeing Opal at the door. "Please sit down. I want to talk to you." She walked in and sat before Lin continued. "Look, I'm just not comfortable talking about these kinds of things, and, well… I wanted to say I'm sorry about the other night."

"It's okay."

"Your mother and I have a complicated relationship and-"

"It's probably difficult for you to be here," Opal said as Lin smiled.

"You're a smart young woman and an excellent airbender. I think it would be a wonderful opportunity for you to train with the other airbenders at the northern air temple." She said as Opal sighed.

"There's a part of me that wants to go, but I don't want to upset my mom."

"When I was younger, all I wanted to do was please my mother. I became a police chief because I thought it would make her happy, but it didn't. You need to make decisions based on what you want. Don't make the same mistakes I did." Lin explained as Opal went to talk to her parents about leaving.

Later, Suyin walked outside to see Lin looking at a statue of Toph. "Opal has decided to go to the northern air temple. I'm guessing you had something to do with her decision.

"Well, I was just-"

"It's OK." Su interrupted Lin. "I'm glad she was honest with me. I want her to do what makes her happy. Mom gave us too much freedom, but I feel like I've made the mistake of giving Opal too little. I think it's time I let her choose her way. I'm sorry I gave you such a hard time when we were younger. I can't imagine what my life would've been like if mom hadn't sent me away if I had stayed in the city."

"You'd probably be in prison," Lin interjected.

"You're probably right. Mako told me that you're an excellent police chief. Republic City is lucky to have you. I know mom is proud. Can we move on? I'd love for you to be a part of my life again. There's plenty of space for you in the house, and the kids would love having their aunt around. I do need a co-director for my new dance performance."

"Whoa. Slow down." Lin waved her hands at that. " How about for now, I just promise not to show up at your house and attack you again?"

"Deal."

They shook hands at that.

Zaheer And The Others.

"We should have grabbed one of those cops."

Ming-Hu said as they sat behind a boulder at a fire. "Maybe they know something about where the Avatar is hiding."

"She could be anywhere," Ghazan said as P'li looked back to see Zaheer meditating.

"We'll find her. It's just a matter of time."

Zaheer then opened his eyes and spoke. "She's with the metal clan."

To Be Continued.

A/N: Thanks for reading and let me know of any mistakes.

Beta: Chaos-PSD.

Sorry for the mostly canon Ch, just nothing happens for this ep. ALSO, a bit of a spoiler for this story under this so stop reading of you don't wanna be spoiled.

:SPOILER:

I'll not only be skipping the next episode but when getting to s4 I'll focus on this story only to finish it... I usually do that when getting to the last ten episodes but with everyone split up for the first couple of episodes then I'll completely skip Rememberances so it'll probably be like 10/11 eps to do I'll be doing Turf Wars And Rise of an Empire but when finishing s4 this won't be a focus because the comics are 3 parts that are around 70-80 each give or take so with little time on PC it'll take kinda long to write. So when I upload the Ch for The Last Stand, the NarutoxKim Possible story will go up.

:SPOILER END:

The poll is down and yes won. I will leave it up for one rotation (Ch 68 for Ninja in the Web) to let people see it and will skip uploading Shinobi for another rotation (Ch 69 for NITW.) to think up ideas for not only what fruit Naruto will get, but the prize for the colosseum fight.

Next to be updated will be Maelstrom Huntsman.

Nothing else to say.

Talk To You Later,

Lone Wolf Out.🐺
