Balance

Chapter VI

Reunion.

Kuvira has defeated the Avatar and now controls the entire Earth Empire. Luckily, the airbender kids and Opal rescued Korra and escaped Zaofu. For the first time in three years, Korra will finally be back in Republic City. Meanwhile, Varrick and Bolin escaped from Baatar Jr and are on the run. But will they make it back to the city in time To warn everyone about Kuvira's new spirit energy super weapon?

Air Temple Island.

Pabu jumps out of his hiding place around a corner, running toward a snoozing Naga. Pabu playfully pounces on and bites Naga's tail; Naga ignores Pabu, not moving until an audible groan sounds from above them. Naga and Pabu look up to see Pepper descending toward the ground, Korra waving from the front of the saddle.

"Naga!"

Naga, wagging her tail, sprints off toward the courtyard; Pabu bites onto Naga's tail as she takes off running, and he streams out behind her as Naga runs. As Pepper lands, several other ring-tailed flying lemurs land on a nearby rooftop; Korra, jumping off Pepper, airbends herself to the ground, smiling before Naga lifts her off the ground. She licks Korra excitedly, before circling behind her as Korra hugged her head. "I missed you so much, girl."

"Mom! Dad! We're back!"

Ikki and Meelo ran to their parents who walked out. "And we got Korra!"

"Well, aren't you a sight for sore eyes?"

Bumi walked up to hug Korra with Bum-Ju on his shoulder. "Bum-Ju and I sure missed you."

"It's so great to see you again, Bumi. And you too, Bum-Ju."

"Well done, kids. I'm proud of you all for finding Korra." Tenzin said as Meelo smiled and pointed at his forehead.

"Proud enough to get me my tats?"

"No."

Tenzin walked up to Korra and hugged her. "Welcome home."

"I missed you, Tenzin."

"Now, I hate to get right down to business, But I want to hear what happened in Zaofu." He said as Bum-Ju thrilled as Bumi looked over.

"Way to ruin the moment."

"Kuvira's whole army was there. She captured Mom, Dad, and my brothers." Opal explained walking up.

"I thought I was strong enough to stop her. I feel like such a failure." Korra huffed before her husband walked up.

"You're still rusty, and even though the rest of the poison's out, you are still mentally focusing on it. It's up to all of us to find a way to deal with her."

"We're just glad to have you back," Tenzin spoke as Bumi looked around.

"Where's Bolin? He's not still on Kuvira's side, is he?"

"I can't believe he would stay with her after what she did to my family. But we don't know where he is." Opal replied, looking down at that.

Bolin and Varrick

"How about you use your own legs for a while?"

Bolin groaned as he carried Varrick by piggyback. Both are dirty and Varrick has a 5 o'clock shadow. "You know, when I fled Republic City with Zhu Li, she carried me twenty miles in one day. And that was after she sprained her ankle."

"Well, Zhu Li's not here, OK?" Bolin dropped Varrick and turned.

"That's fine. Leave me here. Let the worms gobble me up. I deserve it."

"No way, mister. You're not getting off that easily. You're responsible for that weapon Kuvira's trying to make. Which, may I remind you, could hurt a lot of people." Bolin explained, hands on his hips.

"No, don't remind me! I know, I'm a horrible, horrible person."

"OK, look, Kuvira fooled us both into doing her dirty work and I'm not happy about it either. But you know how we're gonna make it up to the world? By getting back to Republic City And warning everyone what she's up to. So I want you to take my hand, And march with me out of this forest!" Bolin held out his hand, having Varrick grab it and be pulled up.

"You really have a way with words, kid. No wonder I made you a mover star. Alright, I'll take the driver's seat for a while." Varrick got in front of Bolin and bent slightly so Bolin could rife on his back. "Hop on."

"Great. My feet could use a break." Bolin jumped in at that, having Varrick lose his balance for a moment.

"OK. Oh, boy. Here we go." Varrick slowly took a step.

And had them be caught in a net that pulled them up. "Are you kidding me?"

Later, Republic City.

Asami is reading a magazine of Future Industries. She smiles when she sees Korra back in her old clothes with her arm warmers on.

"I hope you haven't been waiting long."

"Only three years." Asami smiled before pulling her in for a kiss as Naruto walked out in a red shirt and black pants.

"Got any for me?" Naruto smiled before kissing them.

Asami pulled back before noticing Naruto wasn't wearing his uniform. "Why aren't you wearing your uniform?"

"Kuvira's against us so I wanted to be safe in case she sends any of her men after us."

"Come on, Mako got us a table at the restaurant," Asami said, turning.

Smack!

And jumped as Naruto smacked her and Korra on the ass. They walked into the restaurant and saw Mako at a booth. "Korra!"

"Hi, Mako," Korra replied, hugging him before Wu shot out of the booth and smiled at Korra.

"Hello there, Prince Wu, rightful heir to the throne, and this guy's boss." Wu pulled Korra to the booth as Naruto got in the middle to sit beside both his wives. "I bet he's told you a lot about me.

"Nope. Not a thing."

"Then we have so much to talk about. You are going to love the food here. I know the chef personally. Let's start with a round of your spicy octopus fritters. And keep the cucumber-aloe water flowing. Got to keep this princely skin hydrated."

"I thought it was just going to be the four of us," Asami whispered to Mako who sighed.

"Sorry, I couldn't ditch him. But he promised to be on his best behavior."

"Hey, pop into the Avatar State for me. I want to see your eyes glow." Wu smiled at Korra who blinked.

"What? No."

After talking for several minutes, Wu got up to use the restroom and wanted Mako to go to guard. After declining, Naruto got up stating he had to as well before they walked in and saw an attendant. "Good afternoon, sirs. Perhaps a spritz of cologne to freshen up?"

"Nope." Naruto walked past before Wu wanted some.

Naruto turned and saw the man cover his mouth and hold what Naruto recognized as a sleeping gas canister before grabbing him by the arm. Naruto then knees the man before grabbing him by the head and slamming him down on the sink counter, knocking him out. He looked to the door as he heard running before looking at Wu. "Stall, now!"

Not needing to be told twice, Wu got in the back stall and locked the door. Another man ran in with a knife before Naruto blocked it by grabbing him by the arm. Naruto brought his elbow down on the man's collarbone before tossing him into the back wall. Two more men ran in before Naruto blocked one's punches and knee strikes before punching him in the face.

Naruto turned to kick the other man to stop him before jumping to kick the man's stomach with his other foot. The second man tried for another attack before Naruto threw him into the mirror, breaking it. Catching the third man's arm, Naruto slammed his head into the sink several times before dropping him and bringing his foot down for a stomp, cracking the tiled floor.

He turned to block a kick from the first man and then several knee strikes before the man jumped kicking him back. The man then grabbed Naruto's head for knee strikes before jumping off Naruto's knee for a final strike. Only to have Naruto yell as he grabbed the man, and spun to have him hit head first in the wall cracking it.

Naruto turned to see the second man throw several punches before he blocked each one. They slipped on water and fell to their knees before Naruto jumped to bring the man's head down to the floor with his feet then kicked him in the mouth. Naruto pulled the man up before he was punched in the stomach then elbowed on his back before being flipped over the man to land on his stomach. "Ah! Bitch!"

The man grabbed him in a sleeper hold before Naruto pulled him over on his back and then headbutted him breaking his nose. Naruto then pulled the man for his own sleeper hold before the man broke free. He then pulled them up and tackled Naruto into the wall. Naruto grunted before bringing his elbow down several times then kneeing the man.

The man turned and tossed Naruto to the wall by the door before grabbing the knife. Naruto got up and dodged several strikes before blocking the man's arm that held the knife. Naruto then quickly turned to elbow the man in the stomach before dropping down to do the same to the man's knees forcing him to fall on them. Naruto yelled as he hit the man in the back of the neck hard, knocking him out.

Getting Wu out, Naruto walked to the door and saw the others running to them. "Missed the fun."

Bolin And Varrick.

Bolin struggled on the net before speaking. "I wish Pabu were here. He could just chew us out of this."

"You know who else has incisors sharp as a knife? Zhu Li."

"Well, look what we caught."

They looked down to see men and women in prisoner clothing. "Wonder if they were tracking us after we escaped."

"Hello, fellow travelers! I don't suppose you could help us out of this net?" Bolin asked as the woman in front narrowed her eyes.

"Why would we free a couple of lowly Earth Empire soldiers?"

"Lowly? We were part of Kuvira's inner circle!" Varrick yelled as Bolin's eyes widened.

"Were! Not anymore. We jumped ship. Please just let us out."

"I think I know just what to do With a couple of Kuvira's top men." A man beside the woman said before creating a fore blade and cutting the rope having the two fall.

After having their hands tied, Bolin noticed the first woman waterbend water into her drinking gourd. "So how did a bunch of water and firebenders end up in one of Kuvira's reeducation camps?"

"Call it what it is… A prison." She said before the man spoke up.

"Kuvira's been purging States of anyone who's not of Earth Kingdom origin and locking them up."

"Purging?"

"What are you acting so surprised about? You must have known what she was up to, Being part of her "inner circle" and all."

"No, I swear." Bolin shakes his head at that. "And the inner circle thing lasted, like, less than a day."

"Will you at least tell us where you're taking us?" Varrick asked from behind Bolin.

"The border checkpoint. You're gonna help us talk our way past some Earth Empire soldiers."

"And once we're through, we'll see about letting you go." the woman said before Bolin and Varrick shot each other a meaningful look.

Varrick jumps up as Bolin sends a wave of earth around, knocking everyone down. He quickly turns the ground in front of him into a pool of lava, holding everyone at bay. "Ha ha! Lava time! Bet you didn't expect that!"

"Look, I'm sorry for what happened to all of you," Bolin said, snapping his rope as they were weakened by the lava. "But as I've been trying to explain, we don't work for Kuvira anymore.

"Yeah, if our handsome mugs get recognized Trying to go through that checkpoint, we're goners!"

"If you really are fugitives, you better listen up. We've been scouting this region for days. There's a wall stretching along the entire border and patrols guarding every part of it. That checkpoint is our only way out." The man yelled at them.

"It's not worth the risk, Baraz." The woman said to him. "How do we know they won't turn us in?"

"If he wanted us gone, we'd be at the bottom of a pool of lava right now. If any of us want to get out of the Earth Empire alive, we'll have to trust each other."

Bolin then cooled the lava at that. "Alright, where's this checkpoint?"

Later, Bolin, Varrick, and the prisoners approach the heavily guarded gate. Bolin and Varrick have made themselves look somewhat respectable again and the prisoners are tied together with rope around their wrists. "Follow my lead," Bolin said to the group as they got to the gate.

"Good afternoon, sir. Can we help you?" The man asked as Bolin nodded.

"You sure can. We captured these escaped prisoners. We need to get them to a secure facility."

"Where'd they escape from?" The man asked Bolin.

"Camp 14."

"Then why are you bringing them through here? Camp 14's back the other way."

"You think we don't know where camp 14 is? Kuvira wants them transferred."

"Then I'll need to see the transfer order." The man asked before Varrick got in his face.

"Listen, pal, I had to fight off 2 badger moles, 6 wolf-bats, and 18 hog monkeys to get these guys. So sorry if I don't have the paperwork. I was too busy cramming it in a hog-monkey's mouth while it was trying to eat me! I am in sore need of a shower and I have blisters that are the size of cantaloupes and twice as juicy! So you can let us through, or you can give me your name and rank and I'll pass it on to Kuvira. You know what happens to soldiers who question her orders, don't you? Bad stuff!"

"Let them through!"

Two guards metalbend the gates on either side of the wall down and they walk through. Inside the wall, a guard is working in a booth, where there are wanted posters of Varrick and Bolin. He recognizes them as Varrick waves to him and runs out to stop them. "Wait! Stop them! They're traitors to the empire!"

They all start running but are halted by two mecha tanks that jump down from the top of the gate and land in front of Bolin and Varrick. They find themselves surrounded by four mecha tanks and four earthbenders. "There's no way I'm going back to prison!" Baraz yelled out.

He makes a little dagger from his middle fingers, cutting through the rope on his wrist, and shoots fire at the soldiers, who throw up cover for themselves. They shoot the rocks back at the prisoners, who defend themselves with their fire and waterbending. Bolin and Varrick are under attack by a mecha tank, which attempts to mow them down with its flamethrower. Bolin throws up cover for them, but Varrick still crawls away.

Baraz is fighting a mecha tank as well, dodging its punches. Ahnah comes to his aid and bends her water into a slab of ice, causing the running tank to slide. Baraz blows it back with a few fire blasts, but the tank uses the spikes in its calves to stabilize and break through the ice. It shoots lightning, forcing Baraz and Ahnah apart, before shooting its flamethrower at Baraz, who holds his own with his firebending.

Bolin shoots a few boulders at two mecha tanks going after him, which yields no result. So he creates a pool of lava, but the tanks jump over it, cornering Bolin. Varrick, who is hiding underneath the gate, behind a wall, sees how a waterbender is knocked down. He spots some sort of generator inside the booth. With a screwdriver, he unscrews a table leg and wraps a length of electrical wire around it.

Bolin is still fighting the tank, but it continues to nimbly dodge the lava benders' attacks. Finally, with a fissure, he manages to knock one of the tanks down, but another one is right there to shoot a bolt of lightning at him. He launches himself out of its path and continues the fight.

Meanwhile, Varrick has created an electromagnetic pulse, which he hooks up to the generator. Nobody pays him any attention, seeing how they are busy fighting off the benders. Bolin gets trapped by three mecha tanks who all shoot fire at him, which he blocks with a wall of earth, but he is unable to escape.

Varrick then hooks up the cables before speaking. "Boy, I sure hope this works." He pushes a lever and the stick sends out an electromagnetic pulse, destroying all the electronics in the mecha tanks, causing them to fail, just as they were about to kill Bolin and Baraz. It took everyone by surprise before he laughed. "I still got that Varrick touch. We're clear. Come on!" Varrick runs before Bolin spoke up looking at the prisoners fighting.

"Varrick, wait! We can't leave them."

He jumps over his wall and runs up behind the prisoners, just as one is knocked down. Bolin creates a massive pool of lava, forcing the guards back to the gate. "Retreat!"

Bolin bends the lava to the gate and hoses the wall with it. "Thanks. You didn't have to come back." Baraz said to Bolin who looked over.

"Yeah, I kind of did. Let's go!"

Korra And The Others.

"Nice digs, Mako."

Wu said looking at a large mansion. "You didn't tell me you came from money."

"I don't. This is Asami's place. She was nice enough to let my family stay here After they fled Ba Sing Se." Mako replied before his grandmother opened the door.

"Mako! It's so wonderful to…" She trailed off seeing Wu. "Are you..."

"Grandma, this is Prince Wu. He needs to stay with you and the family for a little while.

Wu takes one knee and grabs Yin's hand. "It's an honor, Grandma Mako."

Wu kisses Yin's hand and she faints before being caught by Mako. "She loves royalty."

"I think I'll fit right in here. Thanks for looking out for me, Mako."

Bolin Varrick, And The Others.

The group is on a dock at a bay beside a boat. "I know it might not mean much Coming from a guy wearing this uniform, but I'd like to apologize for what Kuvira's put you through," Bolin said to Baraz who extended his hand.

"I appreciate that."

"Guess this is where we part ways," Bolin said after shaking hands.

"It's been a blast!" Varrick yelled before Ahnah spoke.

"We're heading North, too. Why don't you come with us? It's the least we can do after you saved our necks."

Varrick looked at the rotting boat before speaking. "On that hunk of junk? No thanks. I'm allergic to drowning." Bolin elbows him at that. "Oof! I mean, uh, we'd love a lift!" He then gets in, having the boat rock and fall. Ew."

Banyan-Grove Tree.

"This area is overrun with spirit vines And they appear to be even more powerful Than the samples we took from Republic City."

Baatar Jr said as he used a ester on the vines from the large tree as Kuvira smiled behind him "Perfect. Harvest these vines until there's nothing left."

Bolin, Varrick, And The Prisoners. (1.)

"And that's when I made a solemn vow never to eat bark-onion soup again."

Baraz said as they sailed in the moonlight. "Been six years, four months, and 14 days… Ugh. I can still taste it."

"Does anyone else feel like throwing themselves overboard?" Bolin spoke before Varrick pointed at himself with both thumbs before standing.

"Not me! I've spent the last few hours tuning out all these incredibly boring stories-"

"Hey!"

"All the while mentally composing the most exciting tale ever told, soon to become the greatest movie ever made! I present to you now: Bolin, as Nuktuk, Hero of the South! Trademark VarriMovers International… In the incredible true story of Bolin! Hero of the world!" Varrick continued as Bolin blinked and pointed at himself.

"Wait, am I playing Nuktuk, or is Nuktuk playing me?"

Varrick turned and used his hands as a camera lens before continuing. "Both. It's your true story, but we'll capitalize On the audience of the Nuktuk franchise. Duh."

"How can you call me the hero of the world? I left my friends and family to join up with a psychotic dictator who imprisoned me, and now I'm running back home with my tail between my legs." Bolin sighed sadly at that.

"Nya, ba, ba, ba, ba. You're emphasizing the wrong story beats. Let me tell you. The story of Bolin Begins in an exotic port of call. A wise sage, the richest merchant in the world, and a handsome devil all sit on a single pillow in the living room of a luxury yacht. How do they all fit on one pillow?"

"Ooh! Giant pillow!" Bolin spoke up, having Varrick shake his head.

"Wrong! They're all the same man! Me! I try to teach a swami the power of levitation, but he's too stupid to understand it, so I kick him out. "Upon whom can I bestow my awesome knowledge?" I ask myself. Then in walks Nuktuk with a twinkle in his eye, a gorgeous dame on his arm, and a song on his lips. He bursts into a rapturous melody..."

Where can I find my teacher?

"Oh, come on! I wasn't singing, you were not levitating. And Asami is just a friend who's married already, thank you very much." Bolin stood up at that. "If you want to tell my true story, you should start from when I met Korra and Naruto. They came to the bending arena one fateful night…" He tailed off telling the story up to when the first Pro-Bending match started.

"Boring! When does the singing start?"

"There wasn't any singing."

"Boo!" The group booed Bolin at that.

"You're an on screen talent, kid." Varrick pushed Bolin back at that. "Leave the storytelling to the masters. So the trouble begins when the Avatar is trapped in the spirit world. The world's most evil villains realize That with Korra out of the way, the time is right to try to take out Bolin. So the worst of the worst team up. They're led by Zaheer… Leader of Red Lotus and master of the skies! A flying chaotic chaos machine!"

"He's joined by Vaatu… The ultimate force of pure spirit evil in the universe! The biggest, meanest, scariest kite that ever flew!"

"Wait, Zaheer didn't team up with Vaatu." Bolin interrupted Varrick again. "How would that even happen?"

"What do you think? Radio! Then they team up with Amon! The reanimated zombie body of the bloodbending leader of the Equalists! And the evil Unalaq, The diabolical but incredibly boring and unpopular sorcerer from the north, who's listening in on the other line! Bolin had a reputation as the world's greatest ladies' man."

"Ooh, now the story's getting interesting." Bolin smiled at that before Varrick continued.

"After leaving the beautiful but emotionally unstable Water Tribe princess at the altar, he met a fetching airbender, the heir to a vast Earth Kingdom fortune."

"Opal, so smart and caring. So pretty to smell… And she'll probably never talk to me again because I'm so stupid! Stupid! So, so, so stupid!"

"Pull it together, you leaky lug," Varrick whispered to the crying Bolin before continuing. "But the darkest moment is always right before dawn. For at his lowest point, Bolin sought advice from the man who started it all, The wisest of the wise... Me! For some of my signature sage advice! 'Nuktuk, I mean, Bolin, there's only one thing for you to do if you want to save the Avatar and defeat the Fearsome Foursome.'"

"I'm not really sure if I like 'Fearsome.'" Varrick stopped to muse. "I mean, Evil Squared might be better. Whatever. 'You have to assemble the fightingest airbender army Of all time!' But it turns out the airbender recruits are a sorry lot, so Bolin brings them to a secret mountaintop training facility where he teaches them the ancient art of dodging fruit and balancing on sticks!"

"And with danger closing in, Opal realizes how much she loves Bolin and forgives him for whatever stuff he was talking about earlier which will probably not be in the final cut of the mover anyway."

"She does?"

"Aww." The group spoke before Varrick continued.

"And she kisses Bolin, magically passing on the airbender power of flight!"

"Okay, that part seems a little unbelievable." Bolin deadpanned as he sat on a barrel before Varrick waved him off.

"This is no time for thinking, kid. We're heading into the big finale! Bolin gathers his airbender army to fight alongside Rotan and Juji against the Terror Square! Maybe that's the name of the bad guys… Terror square. What about Legion of Darkness? Well, we'll put a focus group on it. Bolin teaches the airbenders to create a giant tornado. Then he flies around in the sky and pushes Zaheer. into it, turning him into wind forever!"

"But Bolin doesn't realize that the universal interplanetary combination is zero hour... Talk about a ticking clock… Is almost upon him! And when Juji shoots his laser eyes at the evil Unalaq, the beams accidentally fly into the magic spirit doorway! They bounce off Vaatu., setting him free, and hit Bolin, turning him into a giant!" Varrick grinned before looking around at the others.

"But when Vaatu is set free, the evil Unalaq, who has always been an annoyingly clingy person, is so close to Vaatu that they combine into one horrifying monster! Giant Bolin and the evil Unavaatu fight toe-to-toe, zapping each other with their laser beams As they stomp around Republic City. It looks like the evil Unavaatu might win, but thankfully, Bolin's spiritual mojo is so strong that he attracts the queen of the fairies!"

Bolin rolled his eyes as Varrick continued. "With her help, Bolin turns Unavaatu into magic dust and sprays him into the sky. And that's where the stars come from. Oh, yeah, and he turns into a dragon, and he goes into the Spirit World and saves the Avatar. The end!"

The group claps at that as Bolin blinks. "Wait. You like that? It didn't make any sense! What about zombie Amon? What happened to him, huh? And-and-and-and stars are magic fairy dust? Are you guys crazy? Are you crazy?"

"It's just a mover. Don't overthink it." Baraz waved him off as Varrick wrapped his arm around Bolin's shoulders. "It's like a ride."

"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story, kid." Varrick smiled at Bolin as they continued sailing.
