Chapter 2: Information Seeking

Notnoice : Heh, yeah thanks so much ^^ Means a bunch to know I got ya support, and do not worry even more shall come!
firedragonhide : Yeah I get that it may be a bit clunky to read since I can't say I studied writing novels or anything, but hey, at least it gets the story across? And while I do think that Kakashi has plenty of doubts about the timeline, I get that Obito seemed a accepting. But well, if the main canon can pull it off (And have their characters rather accepting as well) then so can I? No clue. But I'm happy you like it ^^;
Shibingbing : Oh yeah! It's awesome to hear the story seemed to be a bit on the unique side in terms of Time-Travel fics. I simply could decide between having Kakashi go back or Obito, so I simply ddsaid to myself "Why not both?" And here we are! Thanks a bunch for your support and yes this shall be continued!
Biancamanda16 : Gracias, estoy feliz de que te guste (hehe, my Sapnish is wayyy rusty. Well to be fair I never finished learning it so...)
Story synopsis: In amidst the tension of Kakashi's and Obito's duel, both rely on their Kamui to claim victory. Kamui is a powerful mangekyou, and when used lightly the results can be life-changing. Literally. It's a Kekkei Genkai that allows transportation through space-time, so why not actual time? Neither Kakashi nor Obito was at all prepared for what was install for them. And it doesn't help that neither knows that the other is from the future. (Yet another time travel Naruto fanfic! They are much too common, but are also amazing so why not? Probably an eventual KakaObi at some point maybe)
Orange tinted lights skimmed through Kakashi's apartment while two black obsidian eyes wearily blinked open. The first sensation that ran through the grey-haired boy's mind was a pain. It was a throbbing pain that radiated from almost his entire being. Heat. His skin felt like it was burning while his head was close to feeling as if a needle had pierced its skin. Although despite that fact, Kakashi slowly raised his head while enduring the arduous aching he felt. Vision blurred as he attempted to look around, but after a handful of blinks, the Hatake was aware of his surroundings.
"My... Apartment." He said in distrust, still unsure if he really was there. It was in his childhood apartment, leaning against his front door with his legs pulled towards himself, that Kakashi truly had time to think of what had occurred. In all honesty, he didn't want to take the time to do so, but he couldn't continue assuming what was happening was real without any valid proof. Having a hand pushed to his head to help with the pain, Kakashi recounted what had happened. He had woken up in this apartment, and he'd had a fair amount of nausea... After cleaning himself he'd saw Minato sensei at the front door. The entire ordeal was very off-putting Kakashi felt. Looking around, the Hatake noticed how orange his room looked. It was sunset no doubt, and Minato-sensei had said he had missed training so he must have woken up around afternoon earlier that day...
"Did I really pass out? Or maybe it was the stress..." Kakashi said aloud to himself. He needed to find some liable proof that anything he was experiencing was real or not. He wasn't ruling out the possibility that this was all a dream... So, after resting against his door for a fair few minutes, the young Hatake managed to use the door as an asset to help him reach his feet. Once standing, Kakashi was able to take notice of nausea that still disgraced the flooring. He wanted to gag at the sight but feared that doing so would reignite his own nausea, so he managed to sluggishly pull himself towards the kitchen where he retrieved cleaning equipment.
With his head pounding all the while, Kakashi did manage to clean the mess he'd made hours earlier. It wasn't the most pleasant job but it needed to get done so he was thankful his stomach lasted out until he was out of his apartment. It was sundown and would be getting dark soon which worked well to what Kakashi had in mind. He needed information and he needed it fast if only to determine what sort of reality this was. It was now more than ever that Kakashi truly did appreciate his ANBU training. Stealth would be exactly what he needed for this task. He'd have to seek into the Hokage's office while Lord Third is out, and find proof of a timeline or date of where he was. If this really was an infinite Tsukuyomi created by Obito, then it would be a world of sunshine and rainbow, where Rin and Sensei were alive, and when everyone's ideal selves were, along with the fact that there would be no war as the older Obito had stated during their fight.
Kakashi already has valid evidence that Minato sensei was indeed alive. If standing right in front of the blonde hadn't been enough proof. Although it was only by theory, The young Hatake could assume that Rin was also alive. However... there was a thought that the grey-haired boy simply couldn't ignore. If in this Genjutsu everyone was their ideal selves... Then why? Why was Kakashi in the body of his younger self? Obito had made it sound as if this world would alter the present time to be at peace. Not send the one subjected to it into a time where there was peace. He hadn't even mentioned the fact that Kakashi knew that his ideal self was not in his 11-year-old body... This was the time when he'd made the most mistakes... Killing Rin, breaking his promise to Obito, not being strong enough to stop Sensei from dying... The most important people in his life had been taken from him in too short a time frame. If by any chance where he was really was in the past and not some Genjutsu... Then he'd try his best to protect those close to him. But he needed proof first.
So, The young Hatake made his way towards the Hokage's mansion, using the many hidden alleys and shadowed areas for coverage. Some were only known to the ANBU, so Kakashi had to be aware of his surroundings as to not be caught by one. Although, the boy's fever had not gone down in the slightest since waking up, and his prolonged headache was wearing away at the few functioning cells his brain had left. Kakashi was tired... That was for sure, but he needed to be aware of what was happening before he could rest at all.
"Almost there.." He muttered to himself, taking a sharp turn before reaching the base of the building. When he was about to climb up, Kakashi felt his head pang with pain. It was unexpected for sure and made the boy fall to a knee and grasp his face. It hurt. It burned. Why was this happening? Vision blurry, Kakashi forced his way through the pain, indistinct colour making themselves known around him instead of common buildings and walls as he started his ascend. Halfway up and Kakashi knew that he was within birds-eye view to almost any ANBU standing guard. He simply hoped they were slacking off for once in their lives, and that Lord Third was not in his office as it usually seemed as though it was where he lived.
Thankfully Kakashi didn't think he'd been seen, however when making it to the window of the office, he heard voices which he silently cursed at. He couldn't stay in plain sight for long.
"-Lord Third, I understand..." A voice had said. It sounded scarily similar to Minato-sensei so Kakashi simply made the assumption it was the blonde himself.
"Thank you, Minato. Now before you go, what was it you were wanting to ask of me?" The elder man voiced within the boy's hearing range. It was easier to hear the man since he was seated closer to the window. Sensei was wanting to ask the Lord Third something? What could it be? Kakashi supposed he would only know by continuing to eavesdrop.
"Yes, err... You see. I visited Kakashi earlier today..." The sentence caused the boy to sweatdrop. Was Minato sensei really that worried about his condition? He'd only felt his head briefly and even if it was a bad fever he had, er... still has... Most other's would leave it to immunity. What was all this concern for? He knew Minato was a mother hen but... this was ridiculous. What Kakashi nor Minato hadn't realised was that the mention of the grey-haired boy's name caused Lord Third to glance at the window. He'd given a brief sigh and turned back towards Minato, asking him to continue. "Well... It's just that he hadn't been at training today. You know Kakashi... He takes training very seriously, so him missing it was odd." The Hokage simply nodded in agreement and Kakashi cringed at their concern.
"I see. Is there anything that caused his absence?" Kakashi wondered that same question himself in all honesty. Yes, he had the absolute worst headache known to mankind itself... But, why? Why was his body feeling as if its cells were literally breaking apart and rebuilding themselves? Not that they actually were, but the pain might as well imply that they are. The Hatake could sit there and come to dozens of conclusions as to why he was in such pain, accompanied by nausea, but he wanted to continue listening to the conversation, or what has left of it anyways. His thoughts seemed to have tuned out Minato's response, unfortunately, and a loud laugh was heard coming from Lord Third. "Hahaha, Minato you always were overly concerned for your students. Rest assured that I'm sure it is only chakra exhaustion to a degree. You know how he and Obito push themselves in training, err.. more so Obito as I've been told..."
"Y-Yes sir..." The blonde Jounin said sheepishly, wondering why he had gone so far to alarm the Sandaime of a simple problem... He shook his head briefly and said his partings and Kakashi soon heard the door close. Minato had left most likely which Kakashi was thankful for, but with Lord Third still present he wouldn't be able to get any information. The Hatake's head began to pound once more, but before he could react in any way he heard a voice which caused his heart to practically drop into his stomach.
"I know you're there Kakashi. You can come out." Lord Third was facing the window now, and the small boy soon made his appearance by lifting his head up ever so slightly. He saw the expression the Sandaime had, which was more serious than he'd hoped. Kakashi really hadn't wanted to explain anything to anyone at the moment, as he himself was still very confused by what was happening... Whether or not he was in a Genjutsu was yet to be known, and even if he'd tried to dispel it, something like the Infinite Tsukuyomi the older Obito had been so obsessed with, would surely be strong enough to withstand a simple releasing Jutsu. If it was a Genjutsu then there would be a more complicated way to leave.
"S-Sir..." The Hatake mumbled as he made his way through the window, standing near the elder man with his back slouched as his habit showed through despite being in his younger body. The Sandaime gave him a curious look at his posture, but the grey-haired boy simply didn't have the brain cells to both fixing himself. He was already pushing himself enough, and so standing straight at this point was hard enough.
"Now, it may have only been a coincidence... But what exactly are you doing outside my office? It's curious that you happened to drop by when Minato happened to have stated his concerns for you." The statement made the boy sweatdrop, and Lord Third took the moment to observe the boy. Kakashi was slouched in a much obvious way which even the older man knew was uncommon if not ever seen of the boy. His fever that Minato mentioned was brightly shown on his face, making the boy's usual light appears to be stricken red. It seemed that he was not in any condition to be moving around, let alone scaling the side of the Hokage mansion. It caused worry to clearly show on the Sandime's face. Kakashi sighed inwardly, and physically displayed how exhausted he really was. It felt that as time passed he was only getting worse. Was it chakra exhaustion as the old man had thought? If he really was in the past, then it could have been a condition similar to jet lag... But, the Hatake knew he couldn't make assumptions. He would get the information he needed. For sure.
Two sets of feet walked through the streets of Konoha. One set showed the owner to be indifferent while the other was more curious. Obito was currently mulling over the idea of leaving the village. The majority of his mind stammered at him to once again set out to reclaim the world of dreams he had so sort after in the original timeline, while a small minority of himself wanted the opposite, and for him to stay in the village. Although, Obito could quite clearly tell that this part of him wasn't wanting to stay for Rin. In all honesty, the Uchiha hadn't the slightest idea why he hadn't already left. With his hands stiffly locked in his pockets, and his posture serious, the brunette almost cringed at the idea that he was acting much similarily to Kakashi. He hadn't seen his apparent comrade all day thankfully, and instead, Rin had tagged along with him for some unknown reason.
Rin was behaving... how would you put it? Differently, Obito thought. After tending to his fever, which hadn't gone down by much, but also wasn't a bother to the Uchiha, he returned to the normal demeanour of his adult life shortly after they'd left the compound. Obito had assumed that Rin would go her separate ways as she normally did since she wasn't one to spend time alone with him. Not that he cared much anyway. However, when the light-headed brunette did ask to join him on his stroll, which he was only taking to refamiliarise himself with the layout of the village, Obito was surprised, to say the least. Not that he showed the reaction outwardly.
The two had spent the majority of the walk-in silence to Obito's appreciation. Conversation with Rin wouldn't do his fever any better so the Uchiha was thankful she didn't talk much. She only did on the odd occasion to point something out to him, or to ask how his fever was. Obito responded simply every time, not wasting time to drag on the interaction more than it needed to be. The brunette really hadn't adjusted to being around the girl, and as much as he wished that he really had made the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Obito knew that he had failed and that this reality was not the one he sort after. And yet his acceptance of this world was something even he hadn't come to terms with yet.
"Er... Obito?" Rin finally did ask as they were returning to the compound, having spent the day getting used to the Village, Obito was more than exhausted. Kamui hadn't done any good on his condition. In all honesty, he wasn't even sure if he could still activate his Mangekyou. Not that he would try anytime soon since his mind and body wouldn't be able to handle a power such as that quite yet. Obito then realised Rin was talking to him and put his thoughts aside for the time being.
"Yes?" He answered plainly, causing what he assumed to be confusion and worry on the girls face.
"It's just... You've been acting differently today... You've been really quiet, and serious. And you're acting like Kakashi! What's going on? Is this some attempt to get me to like you?" The young Nohara questioned. If Obito had to guess it was something she'd been wanting to say for the entire walk. Sighing inwardly, Obito moved his line of sight towards the Hokage's mansion, which was coming into view in the distance, before gazing towards Rin. He didn't show much expression but managed a fake smile so she wouldn't worry about him any further.
"No, nothing like that. I'm just growing up is all." He lied through an explanation, adding a hum for effect. Honestly, this was nothing compared to his acting. He'd been Tobi, a rambunctious character, and despite allowing Guruguru to play the childish role the majority of the time, Obito also had to partake in the acting. He at least was capable of masking his current self behind his old one. And it seemed to have worked as Rin found a smile reach her face and she nodded in acceptance of his deceiving claim. Obito wondered how long he could fool everyone else of his demeanour. Hopefully, until he decided whether or not he wanted to actually leave the village. Why it was even a decision the Uchiha still didn't know.
The two had been walking alongside the other for moments longer, and while Obito could see that Rin seemed satisfied with his answer, he could still feel that the girl was still worrying about his behaviour. She was either as good as an actor as he was, or she simply couldn't decide whether or not to be worried for him. The Uchiha mentally sighed, finding her concern bothersome to a vast degree, and in all honesty, Obito would have commented further to assure her he was ok if it was not for the sudden scream of a civilian, whose expression was pure dread.
"Someone's falling from the Hokage's Mansion!" Was all the Uchiha had heard before finding his eyes search for the figure the women had described. The Uchiha honestly didn't know why he'd looked, to begin with since the problem shouldn't be any concern of his, but he assumed it was his old self that had compelled him to find even the smallest piece of care at the moment. He assumed it was also his old self which caused him to race towards the scene once he'd caught sight of the person falling. Honestly, he could only be so thankful that Rin and himself were nearby. If not the person would have hit the ground with a solid smash. Obito couldn't have promised there wouldn't have been blood if it were to happen. Not that he'd cared since hed becomes accustomed to seeing the stuff.
Either way, Obito had caught what he'd realised was a boy his age if not younger before he'd hit the ground to his doom. It was truly a close call, and if Obito had the mental capacity of the child he physically was, then he wouldn't have made it on time. Who his kid was better tha- however, the Uchiha couldn't finish that thought as he'd taken a look at who it was he'd actually caught.
It was Kakashi Hatake.
"K-Kakashi?" The brunette questioned out loud, unsure what to think of the grey-haired boy he'd just caught. What the hell was he doing on the Hokage's mansion? Not to mention he'd fallen off it. Last he checked, Rin had said the boy also wasn't at training either. Which as Obito could recall was very unlike Kakashi... Dammit... It just seemed to be one thing after another. Why did have to continue caring? He sighed inwardly wishing he could just leave the village and forget all his past ties like before...
"Obito! Are you ok!? I didn't know you-" Rin had come running towards the Uchiha who'd practically disappeared from her side. To say Rin was shocked was an understatement as she'd never once seen the boy move as fast as he did. Obito could see the shock on her face and gave a little unimpressed expression in return. He hadn't even been that fast, They were withing running distance of the building, and all he did was boost his speed with Chakra. He wouldn't have been any faster than Kakashi at the time. Was he really considered to be that weak compared to the Hatake? Rin then realised who it was Obito was holding. "W-Wait! Is that Kakashi!?" The Uchiha really only nodded at her question once she'd come over.
"Yeah it is, I don't know what the hell he was thinking." Obito frowned wondering what Kakashi had been doing to cause himself to fall from the mansion, especially if it meant he'd missed training to do so. Wait! The Uchiha shook his head. Why did he even care!? Dammit, his old self kept showing itself when he didn't want it to. Rin gave a worried look at their younger teammate and it was then that Obito had noticed how visibly red Kakashi's face was. Did he have a fever? "Rin, check his temperature." He practically demanded, trying to stay level headed while mentally debating dropping the Hatake on the dirt whilst walking away. That would be easier... Rin, however, did as told, only to find that Kakashi's fever was nearing critical condition.
"W-We need to get him to the hospital!" Was the only sign she gave to Obito to show that the fever was definitely bad. Much worse than his own at least. Before they ran off in the direction of the hospital, Obito wondered two things. First, was that it was odd both he and Kakashi had been struck with a fever. Perhaps a bug was going around? The other... Damn, Kakashi was light. The kid needed to gain some weight.
Authors notes
Ah yes, another chapter out! This took slightly longer than I anticipated, but only because I was planning chapters to know where the hell the story was going.
