Normal POV
Ashes were falling everywhere, and Elsa, along with her family, were looking around for any sign of Hiccup and Toothless. "Hiccup!... Hiccup!" Elsa shouted. "Where are you?" She asked loudly until she spotted something in the distance. "Toothless." Elsa gasped as she ran towards the dragon. The Night Fury layed there motionless on the ground and when Elsa got to him, she saw that the saddle was empty and burnt along with the prosthetic tailfin. Elsa fell on her knees and broke down in tears. "No." She wept while shaking her head. As Elsa sat their weeping, her family, along with rest of the Arendellians, spotted the dragon and looked down sadly. Soon, the other dragons appeared behind them and looked sad, knowing that the human who freed them was now dead. Agnarr was sad that Hiccup was gone because he was like a son to him. As for Anna, she saw Hiccup as a big brother she never had and was now sad that he was gone.
A few seconds later, Toothless' head moved and slowly opened his eyes while groaning which got Elsa's attention. Elsa looked at the dragon with a sad expression, her eyes red from crying. "Oh, Toothless." Elsa said softly before crying again. "He's gone. He's really gone." She whimpered. Toothless stared at her for a moment before he opened his wings, revealing Hiccup in his clutches! "Hiccup!" Elsa ran up to him before pulling Hiccup into a hug and placed her ear over his chest as she felt a heartbeat. "He's alive." Elsa said quietly as her eyes were immediately filled with tears of joy. "You brought him back alive!" She looked at Toothless. Everyone then began to cheer, knowing that Hiccup was alive. Agnarr smiled in joy while Tobias and Anton started laughing and cheering. The dragons also began to cheer by roaring, knowing that the dragon rider who freed them was alive. Anna smiled and was that Hiccup was alive. But then Tobias noticed something terrifiying!
Elsa slowly then placed her hand on Toothless' head before the dragon purred and lowered his head down. "Thank you for saving the boy I love." Elsa said in happiness to Toothless.
"Uh... Princess Elsa." Tobias said in fear as he approached them and gestured to Hiccup's left leg. Elsa looked at what the general was gesturing at and gasped as fear immediately overwhelmed her.
"Oh no." She said in fear.
-Arendelle-
Iduna's POV
It's been almost two weeks since Hiccup and my husband left and I still couldn't find Elsa or Anna anywhere. I was so very scared that something might happened to them, mainly Elsa because of her abilities. As I was pacing back and forth in mine and Agnarr's room, my thoughts were interrupted when I heard a knock. "Come in." I answered as Kai, our adviser came in. "Have they found them yet, Kai? Are my daughters found?" I asked in worry.
"I'm afraid not, your majesty. The guards found nothing." He answered as I looked down, about to tear up. "But they wanted me to inform you that the king and prince have returned." Kai informed me which brought my hopes up.
"How many ships returned?" I asked.
"Only two." Kai answered.
'Two?' I thought to myself in both concern and confusion.
Normal POV
Iduna raced down to the docks with Kai and Gerda following behind and saw that the two ships had scorch marks on it and some burnt holes on the sails. As they were looking over the ships, Iduna then spotted her husband speaking with the dock master. "Agnarr!" She exclaimed while running foward. Agnarr stopped his conversation with the dock master when he heard his name being called out and spotted his wife running to him.
"Iduna!" He exclaimed as Iduna enveloped him in a hug. Agnarr returned the hug before he saw the sad look on Iduna's face. "Iduna? What's wrong?" He asked her.
"It's awful, Agnarr. After you and Hiccup left, Anna and Elsa disappeared all of a sudden." Iduna whimpered as she saw a small smile on his face. "Why are you smiling?" She asked. Agnarr broke the hug and stepped aside to reveal Anna and Elsa standing there unharmed. "Anna, Elsa!" Iduna cried in joy before running towards them.
"Momma!" Both sisters shouted as they ran towards their mother. Iduna quickly pulled her daughters in a tight hug and started sobbing.
"Where were you two? I was worried sick." Iduna exclaimed as she looked over them for any injuries. Elsa then looked down in shame.
"Mother, if there's anyone to blame, it's me." Elsa said. "I just... wanted to stay close to Hiccup because..." Elsa tried to finish but didn't when she felt her mother lifting her chin up to face her.
"It's okay Elsa. I understand." Iduna told her before realizing that she doesn't see Hiccup anywhere. "Where's Hiccup?" Iduna asked before she noticed sad look on Elsa's face. "Elsa? What's wrong?" She asked. Elsa was about to answer but was cut off when shouting was being heard on the ship.
"We need a doctor!" General Tobias yelled out as everyone saw him carrying Hiccup who's left leg was wrapped in bandages. Iduna gasped at the sight she was seeing.
"Get him to his room, quickly!" Agnarr shouted as they rushed back to the castle while the guards took Toothless to the stables who crooned sadly for his rider. Once they got to Hiccup's room, Tobias gently laid Hiccup on his bed. "Get the doctor, quickly!" Agnarr ordered Gerda.
"Yes, your majesty." She nodded and rushes through the corridor. The doctor arrives a few minutes with a bundle of bandages and a bag full of medical supplies. Before the doctor could work on Hiccup's leg, he had to ask everyone to wait outside which they agreed. After several hours of intense treatment, the doctor exited the room with a troubled look.
"Doctor, how is he?" Elsa asked, wanting to know Hiccup's condition.
The doctor released a heavy sigh. "I sorry to say princess Elsa but his left leg was beyond saving. It was infected and had no choice but to amputate it before any further infection." He apologized. Elsa gasped in horror after hearing about Hiccup's leg being amputated.
"Is he gonna be okay?" Iduna asked in concern as she tried comfort Elsa.
"He's in a coma and... whenever he decides to wake up is up to God now." He was about to leave but looked over his shoulder. "I'm sorry but... I did the best I could." The doctor said before walking off into the silent hallway.
Elsa couldn't take it anymore and ran off to her room. Once she got there, she immediately locked her door and let it all out. She let out a pained wail and let her tears fall. Having no control whatsoever, Elsa decreased the room's temperature to negatives and froze her tears as they fell making them shatter like glass. Fear radiated off her in waves. She could possibly lose Hiccup forever and the thought of it sent her into a fit of tears and sadness. "Please God, please don't take Hiccup away from me. I love him with all my life. He's the only one that doesn't treat me differently. Please God, I beg you, don't take him away." Elsa prayed silently. The wind started whipping up the snow on the floor of her room and it began a mini snowstorm. The snow then turned to ice and sliced the walls with dangerous ease. Elsa, having used up a lot of energy through the snowstorm in her room, fainted but entered a surprising pleasant dream.
-Elsa's dream-
Elsa just became the new queen of Arendelle and was now happily dancing with Hiccup in the ballroom with Toothless, Anna, Agnarr, Iduna, and everyone else watching. Hiccup pulled back and spun her around with a smile before letting go and carefully dropping to one knee while holding her hand in his making her gasp out in shock. Agnarr and Iduna smiled wide while everyone else went wide eyed with mouths hanging open except for Toothless who was tilting his head to the side like he was confused at what was going on. "Elsa, from the moment we met and when my hand touched yours, I knew there was something there. You became my best friend, and we did everything together. From simple walks in the garden, to flying high in the clouds withToothless. Your powers brought me to you, and learning what I did its very clear to see that we were meant to be together. Elsa, when you asked me what I wanted in order to repay me for helping you with your powers. The only thing I want is for you to be in my life forever. So Queen Elsa of Arendelle, will you make me the happiest man alive and become my wife?" Hiccup asked as he pulled out a light blue velvet box and opened it presenting a ring to her.
Elsa had tears forming in her blue eyes as she dropped the hand that had made it to mouth during Hiccup's speech. Trying to keep her tears from falling, she nodded her head to him. "Yes... YES!" She screamed out happily. Hiccup smiled as he took off her glove and took the ring out of the box before placing it on her left ring finger. Elsa then grabbed both sides of his face and pulled him in for a deep kiss. Hiccup was surprised by this and returned the kiss. The whole room began applusing for them while Agnarr and Iduna smiled for their daughter and new soon-to-be son-in-law while Anna was happy about having a brotther-in-law.
-Dream change-
The dream then change to their wedding day and it was the most wonderful day of their lives. Their wedding took place at the Arendelle chapel and they stood at the alter where the bishop was, along with Toothless as Hiccup's best man. Hiccup was wearing a white suit with some dragon detailing on it and had a ice blue wedding ring on his ring finger. Elsa was wearing a long royal white dress with long sleeves off the shoulders and a corset tied back but flowing down at the bottom of the dress. There were hints of blue ice lining the area around her chest, the ends of the sleeves, and the bottom of the dress itself. Sitting on top of her head was her small tiara and on her ring finger was a blackish purple wedding ring. "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride." The bishop finished. Hiccup leaned close in close and pressed his lips to Elsa's, both of their eyes closed while locked in the passionate deep kiss that sealed their vows as husband and wife. The whole chapel erupted in to applause for them, people clapping and cheering for Hiccup and Elsa.
-Dream ends-
Elsa subconsciously smiled at the dream which dissipated the storm, melting the ice away. Restoring the whole room to normal.
-Three weeks later-
Elsa's POV
It's been three weeks. That's how long Hiccup had been in the coma and he still hasn't woken up which concerns me. Toothless and I were waiting patiently on both sides of Hiccup's bed watching him sleep quietly without moving an inch or making a sound but was breathing in a steady rhythm. I was sitting next to him on the bed while Toothless was laying his head on the other side of the bed with his body and tail curling around the bed. Both of us rarely left the room since I managed to calm myself down enough to actually force myself to see him.
The first week was what scared me the most. Hiccup broke down with a high fever from the loss of blood and his body fighting against any trace of an infection that might manage to get in. The doctor and maids took great care of him by rewetting the towel, cold enough for his forehead to keep the fever down and changing the bandages for his stump.
"Hiccup... I don't know if you can hear me." I sang lightly, breaking the silence as I brushed the sleeping boy's auburn hair away from his face before taking Hiccup's hand my gloved one. "But everyone is worried about you." I sang. "I don't know if I can stand this. Seeing you like this. It makes me more worried." I continued. "If you can hear this. Please wake up. I really want to be with you." I squeezed his hand. "Hiccup. Please... wake up for me." I finished as I looked at his motionless face, hopping that my singing with wake him up but saw his eyes were still closed. I sighed as I looked down with my eyes closed and kept Hiccup's hand in mine.
Then I felt it. Hiccup's hand moved and squeezed weakly around mine which caused me to let out a slight gasp. Toothless noticed this and perked right up as the two of us quickly looked at Hiccup's face but nothing happened. "He squeezed my hand, Toothless." I pointed out with tears of happiness in my eyes. "It's a sign that he's still alive." I said to the Night Fury who just crooned in reply. "I know buddy. I know." I placed my palm on his head. I then heard the door open and the both of us turned to see my mother standing there. "Mother, Hiccup squeezed my hand. It's a sign that he's recovering." I smiled.
"That's great news." My mother said with a smile. Her smile disappeared when she saw the worried look in my eyes. "Elsa, what's wrong?" She asked.
"Mother, what if he doesn't wake up? What if he stays like this for a long time? I don't want to think or live a life without Hiccup." I panicked, not knowing that ice and frost were starting to spread.
"Elsa, calm down! Your powers!" My mother warned, snapping me back into reality. I quickly calm down and thought of the memories of me and Hiccup before the dragon nest which caused the ice to disappear. My mother then pulled me in her arms. "Elsa. All of us know how Hiccup is. He is the kindest, bravest, and smartest boy we know. He is strong. If he managed to survive years of pain and suffering, then he can get through this by himself." I looked up at her with trembling but grateful eyes, knowing that she's right.
"You're right, mother." I replied.
"Why don't you rest for a little bit. It looks like you need it." My she told me. I thought of it for a moment before nodding.
I went over to Hiccup's bed and brushed his hair from his face. "Get well soon Hiccup." I told him before kissing his forehead and left.
Normal POV
Iduna watched as her daughter left the room and turned to face the sleeping boy and the Night Fury. She sat down on the edge of the bed and caressed Hiccup's head like a mother would do with her child. "Hiccup, I just want to say... thank you... for helping my daughter and if you ever get the chance, I would be happy to have you as my son-in-law." Iduna smiled before facing Toothless. "Thank you for saving him Toothless. You're an amazing friend." She petted the dragon's head who purred in reply. Iduna got up and went to exit the room but turned to share a look with the dragon. "Watch over him for us." She said before she left. Toothless laid his head back down on the bed near Hiccup's hand and drifted off into sleep.
-The next day-
Toothless was the only one in Hiccup's room and has never left his rider's side since then. Right now, the dragon was watching over Hiccup patiently, waiting for him to wake up but saw that he was still asleep. The Night Fury was about to rest but sat up straight immediately when he heard a small moan from the former viking. This meant that Hiccup was finally waking up!
Hiccup's face began to stir and started to regain conscious before hearing a soft growl. Slowly, Hiccup opened his eyes to see Toothless sitting there beside him on his right. He smiled at seeing his friend still alive and well. "Hey Toothless." Hiccup said as the dragon happily pushed his head into his cheek in an upward motion before retracting and repeating it. "I'm happy to see you too bud." He said before grabbing his friend's face who was trying to use his tongue to lick the boy's face. "Owwwww!" Hiccup yelled out in pain when his dragon accidently stepped on his groin with his massive paw. Hiccup lunged forward to protect his nether region crossing his arms in front of his waist. He then realized that he was back in his room. "Uh I'm in my room." He looked around before his eyes landed on Toothless which made him realize that the dragon was also in his room. "Umm you're in my room. Does anyone know that you're here?" He called out once again.
Toothless started hopping around, knocking things over in the process. The dragon then hopped up to his rider and tried to nuzzle him with his face before hopping away when he saw Hiccup's hands move up as if he was trying to say stop. "Toothless!" Hiccup said trying to calm down his dragon. At this rate, Toothless would destroy his room before anyone would come in. Having enough of it, Hiccup huffed in frustration. "Oh come on..." He manage to say. Hiccup lifted up his blanket to get up but froze when he saw his left leg below the knee was gone and was nothing but a stump wrapped in bandages. Toothless calmed down after hearing his friend's attitude change. The dragon went over to his human before sniffing the stump where a foot should have been. He then looked at his rider's face to see the look on his face.
Hiccup stared at his stump with a frown and turned to see the guilty look on his dragon's face. Before he could say or do anything, Hiccup heard the door open and saw the doctor walk in. "My prince... you're awake!" The doctor exclaimed loudly in happiness before going back in the hallway. "Someone get the royal family, the prince is awake!" He called out before running back inside. "My prince, you have no idea how happy we are knowing that you're awake." He said in glee but soon frowned when he saw the look on Hiccup's face. Before he could ask what's wrong, Kai, Gerda, General Tobias, a couple of guards, and the royal family minus Elsa entered the room.
"Hiccup! You're awake!" Anna exclaimed happily but dropped dropped her smile along with everyone else when they saw the frown on Hiccup's face.
"Hiccup, are you okay?" Iduna asked.
"What happened to my leg?" Hiccup questioned everyone who gulped before turning their gaze to the doctor.
"Your leg was seriously infected and was beyond saving. I had no other choice but to amputate it in order to save you. I'm sorry my prince... but it was the only way." The doctor sighed nervously, waiting for Hiccup's reaction and reply.
Hiccup thought for a moment before answering. "What happened?" He asked.
-With Elsa-
Elsa had just finished changing when she heard a knock on her door. Quickly putting her gloves on, the crown princess opened the door slightly to see one of the servants there. "What is it?" She asked confused, not knowing what happened.
"It's Prince Hiccup, your highness." The servant answered. "He's awake." He said. Elsa's eyes went wide and she dashed out of her room, making her way towards Hiccup's.
The snow princess raced down the hall with happy thoughts and tears of happiness. Once she made it to Hiccup's room, Elsa took a deep breath to prepare herself before opening the door.
-Back with Hiccup-
Hiccup was processing what Tobias has told him about what happened on the Island and began to have some second thoughts about it. Toothless nudge his head over to Hiccup, asking for forgiveness. "It's okay bud, I'm not mad at you for what you did... but thank you... for saving me Toothless. You are amazing." Hiccup smiled. Toothless purred as they pressed their foreheads together.
"You're not upset?" The doctor questioned.
"Not at any of you, only at myself." The boy answered which made everyone confused. "I promised Elsa that I would come back in one piece but because of what happened, I broke that promise. I just hope that she doesn't cast me out because of it." He explained. Everyone then heard the door open and turned to see Elsa standing there with tears. Elsa ran up to her crush and hugged him, knowing that he was finally awake from his coma. She bailed out all of her worries as Hiccup hugged her back. "It's okay, Elsa." He soothed. "I'm right here." He told her.
"I was worried that you wouldn't wake up." Elsa calmed down while still hugging. "I'm just happy that you're finally awake." She said.
Hiccup smiled for a moment before frowning. "Elsa I'm sorry." He apologized.
"For what?" She asked confused.
"I promised you that I would come back in one piece..." Hiccup started.
"Hiccup." Elsa tried.
"But because of what happened on the island, I broke that promise." He continued.
"Hiccup." She tried again.
"It's just that I was afraid that you would push me away or something..." He continued again.
"Hiccup!" Elsa said finally getting his attention while cupping his cheek. "Just shut up." She smiled. Elsa then leaned forward with her eyes closed and planted a deep kiss on his lips. Hiccup's eyes widened in surprise for a second before he closed them and returned the kiss. Anna gasped in happiness at this while Agnarr and Iduna smiled at the newly formed couple. Elsa heard 'ohhs and ahhs' from the guards but payed no mind to them and focused on the kiss. She pulled back and found herself blushing.
"Wow." Hiccup managed to say while blushing. Elsa giggled at his respond. Feeling left out, Toothless decided to barge in before pinning Hiccup down with wet kisses. "Toof... 'ess!" Hiccup protested, trying to get the Night Fury off of him.
Elsa giggled at this but then squeaked when she was tackled by the black dragon who began licking her. "Toothless!" Elsa giggled, trying to stop him while everyone chuckled at this. Toothless immediately stopped when he heard his rider calling him and allowed Elsa to sit back up.
"Elsa, I am so sorry about him. He just couldn't contain himself." Hiccup quickly apologized.
"It's okay. I just hope this stuff washes off." Elsa gestured to the dragon slober on her.
"Gerda, tell the maids to get a bath ready for them." Iduna ordered.
"Yes, your majesty." Gerda nodded before walking out.
Hiccup then saw a look on Elsa's face which showed that she wanted tell him something but didn't know how. "Els, you okay?" He asked.
"Nothing's wrong." The princess smiled. "Hiccup there's something I need to tell you. While you and Toothless were fighting that... monster, something incredible happened." She began, telling her newly formed bond with the Snow Wraith.
-Berk-
It had been weeks since the village found out about Hiccup's death. They managed to perform a funeral for him with his basket right after Johann delivered it. The village still went out their daily routines but the sadness of losing the chief's son was still around. The teens were also sad but Astrid for the most part was grieving, knowing that the boy who liked her was now dead and she would never in chance be with him. But then they became shocked that the raids have suddenly stopped with no explanation.
At the chief's house, Stoick sat down silently as he sadly stared at the Maces and Talons game he and Hiccup would play a lot when he was little. Stoick would remember the times he and Hiccup would play together.
-Flashback-
"Sooo... you think you can outsmart me huh? You think you can stop the wrath of the mighty Gronckle? Ha ha ha ha haa." Stoick placed his Gronckle piece down before staring down at a six year old Hiccup. "Your move." He told the boy.
Hiccup grabbed one of his viking warrior pieces and lightly bumped it against the Gronckle piece before he grabbed it. "Ha, I got your Gronckle daddy. Rooaarr." The little boy said, mimicking dragon roars.
Stoick stared at him with an eyebrow raised. "Ah but you left your leader exposed so my Nadder gets your chief." Stoick knocked over the chief piece with the Nadder piece. "Roar." He simply said.
Hiccup stared up in shock, knowing that he had just lost and watched his father take his chief piece. "But... but I love my chief." He looked down at the Gronckle piece sadly. Hiccup then held out his arm and dropped the Gronckle to the floor with a pout, looking away.
Stoick smiled at his son before chuckling. "That's alright, you can have him back son." Stoick offered. Hiccup looked up at him before he went for the piece but was unable to get it when Stoick pulled his hand back. "But remember, always use the mind before the sword." Stoick held up the piece to the boy. Hiccup grabbed his chief and smiled as his father ruffled his hair before looking at his piece.
-Flashback ends-
Tears threatened to come out of his green eyes as he looked down at Hiccup's chief piece in his hand as he remembered that day. He did this. He pushed Hiccup away to focus on his chiefting duties and was ashamed about. He misses him so much and he felt like a failure. "I'm so sorry Hiccup. I failed you. Please forgive me." Stoick whimpered as he held the chief piece tightly up to his face before sobbing.
Author's note: So there you go. I hope you like this chapter and that I used one of the deleted scenes from How to train your dragon: The hidden world for this chapter. I also wanted to say thank you to Monkey D. Conan for the Red Death idea and forgot to do it on last chapter. Also, did you know that December is actually Hiccelsa month because I didn't. Anyway so for next chapter and because it's christmas season, I decided to write a christmas chapter that involves Hiccup giving his betrothal necklace from Race to the edge to Elsa so I need some help with some ideas from you guys because I want to get the chapter done before Christmas. See you next chapter and happy Hiccelsa month!
P.S. I was so pissed off that God of War Ragnarok didn't win game of the year and Elden Ring instead at the game awards.
