"Sammy, I'm intrigued by something. Delaney mentioned that you've undergone five heart surgeries before even reaching the age of five. Could you please explain the reason behind this?" Katie inquires.
"Due to being born prematurely, my heart was unable to pump an adequate amount of blood for my body, necessitating additional medical intervention. As a result, I was frequently in and out of the hospital for my surgeries. Eventually, my doctors prescribed the appropriate medication to manage my heart condition, particularly after my most recent surgery at the age of four. My parents wanted to alleviate the stress and anxiety caused by the frequent hospital visits. I believe that my premature birth is also the reason behind my Asperger's, dyslexia, and diabetes. I have been burdened with numerous medical issues, which has made me feel like my life is anything but normal," Sammy explains.
"That's alright, Sammy. You are capable of overcoming these challenges. I acknowledge that your life is filled with struggles due to your various diagnoses, but you are still an amazing child and a wonderful friend," Katie reassures.
"Thank you, Katie," Sammy expresses his gratitude. "Do you see this long scar on my chest? It's a result of all the heart surgeries."
"Think of it as a battle scar, Sammy. You are a true warrior for enduring multiple heart operations at such a young age," Katie suggests.
"I have never considered it from that perspective before. You are truly remarkable, Katie," Sammy acknowledges.
