In the bedroom, Katie arranges a bowl of gummy dinosaurs on a table near the bed and closet. She then places Carlos' hockey helmet on Giggles and positions the stuffed monkey close to the bowl before sitting on the bed and turning on the television to watch SpongeBob.
"This is one of my favorite episodes of SpongeBob. The Camping one is so funny, and I love when SpongeBob sings the campfire song," she remarks. "I wish I wasn't watching it alone."
As she leans back on a pillow to relax, Katie patiently waits for Sammy to emerge from hiding. Thirty minutes later, she hears the bowl clanking against the table and sees Sammy reaching from under the bed to grab the gummy dinosaurs but still hesitates to come all the way out.
Thinking of another way to entice him, Katie places Giggles by the bed. She notices Sammy's hand moving his Charmander doll next to the stuffed monkey and then slowly crawling out to look up at her.
"Katie, did you leave those gummy dinosaurs out for me?" he inquires.
"Yes, I did," Katie responds.
"Why?" Sammy asks, clearly puzzled.
"It was necessary for you to emerge from hiding. I comprehend your anger towards your sister, but she simply desires what is in your best interest," Katie explains.
"What is truly best for me is to never set foot in a school again. How can I attend a place where I feel unsafe? Somewhere that causes me stress? I do not desire that. I do not fit in at school. I am unlike the other children. I do not resemble them or behave like them. I am simply an outsider. I am a misfit," Sammy expresses.
"I can relate to that. When I was in Minnesota, my primary objective was not only to achieve good grades, but also to make at least one friend whom I could truly trust and have fun with. However, I am not skilled at making friends, aside from you and Tyler. In Minnesota, my classmates labeled me as the peculiar girl who hangs out with her brothers. For some reason, this was not deemed acceptable for me to be considered friend material. The girls in my school were shocked that I did not play with dolls, wear skirts, or engage in dress-up. They were disappointed that I enjoyed video games, watching sports, and playing outside," Katie shares. "To them, I was a boy trapped in a girl's body. I was not good enough for them."
"That sounds like a terrible ordeal. If I had attended the same school as you in Minnesota, we would have undoubtedly become the best of friends," Sammy remarks.
"Thank you, Sammy. It seems like we have more in common than we realize. Let's embrace our uniqueness and be eternal allies," Katie suggests.
"Can Charmander and Giggles share the same camaraderie as us?" Sammy inquires.
"Without a doubt. They can be lifelong companions, just like us," Katie affirms.
The duo share a laugh. "Always and forever," Sammy exclaims, giving her a high five.
