Chapter 12
(Author's note at the end of the chapter)
"Hailey? Please tell me whats going on?" Hailey started crying, but she managed calm herself a little by taking a couple of deep breaths.
"Hunter." She started softly. "I'm not sure how to tell you this..."
"Just tell me Hailey." Hunter said. Hailey took another deep breath before telling her cousin what happened.
"Well, my mom and I thought it would be a nice idea to organize a small party with a couple of friends from the studio to celebrate you passing your exams." Hailey began.
"Okay... Please continue."
"So to surprise you even more, we managed to get your parents to come here to Toronto." Hailey continued as tears started to form in her eyes.
"Mom and dad? What happened to them?" Hunter asked confused and concerned at the same time.
"Twenty-five minutes ago we received a call from the police."
"They got arrested?" Hunter asked. Hailey shook her head and continued her story.
"No. The police told us that your parents drove on a road right next to a lake. It was very dark and it was raining hard, so the road was extremely slippery... So... They wanted to take a corner but instead the car slipped of the road and flipped a couple of times before it landed in the lake." Hailey said as she looked down sadly while letting a couple of tears drop from her eyes.
"Oh my God! Are they okay?! Where are they?" Hunter exclaimed with disbelieve.
"Your dad is transported to an hospital. He's..." Hailey took a deep breath in before finishing her sentence. "He's in a coma."
"A coma?" Hunter wondered with shock as his face expression changed and could not manage to hold his tears. "Oh my God... And what about mom?"
"Hunter. I don't know how to tell you this." Hailey said as she walked up to Hunter and hold both of his in a comfortable way. Right before she wants to say it Hailey started crying.
"Tell me Hailey." Hunter said softly.
"Hunter, I'm so sorry to tell you this." Hailey started. "Your mother passed away during the accident."
At that point Hunter felt an odd feeling striking throughout his entire body. It felt like his blood stopped flowing for a split second, tears started to form at the corners of his eyes. He quickly hold on at the table to support himself since to feelings in his legs suddenly vanished away.
Hunter felt defeated after hearing his cousin's last sentence. 'Passed away'. How the heck do you react after hearing that one of your loved ones have passed away? Especially if that loved one is your one and only mother. The woman that raised you up since day one, supported you with everything, loved you with all her heart. Gone.
''Hunter?" Hailey asked softly as she slowly makes a couple of steps towards her older cousin. Hunter didn't seem to react in any way. He stood moveless with both his hands still on the table staring blankly at nothing while fresh tears were slowly rolling down his cheeks.
A moment later Hunter felt a couple of soft arms embracing him from the back. ''I am so sorry Hunter.'' Hailey said softly throughout her tears. Hailey kept embracing Hunter for a brief moment. Their aunt came along hugging and comforting her two cousins. After some minutes they all pulled apart.
''It's going to be okay, sweetheart." Robbin softly said to Hunter as her puffy eyes tried to make contact with Hunter's. "We're going to be okay."
Hunter who still wasn't able to manage his tears couldn't take it any longer. How was he ever going to get over this? Without any hesitation he rushed out of the house. He needed to get out of here.
"Hunter? Where are you going?" Hailey wondered worried. "Hunter?'' Hunter heard her but didn't had the intention to turn around and talk to her or anyone. He just wanted to be alone.
While Hailey kept calling his name, Hunter still ignored her and stepped into his car. A quick drive would probably clear his mind, wouldn't it.
With tears still dropping from his eyes, Hunter started his engine and drove into the darkness of the night.
A moment later Hunter noticed himself driving on the freeway, he actually had no idea where he was driving to. He felt he just need to get away as far as possible. Away from all his problems, away from all the negativity, away from everyone and everything.
Minutes passed by while he was speeding on the freeway, he currently found himself out of Toronto. He took an exit and decided to park his car at the sideway of the road. He had no idea what to do from then on.
He blankly stared at the darkness through the car window. He kept staring until he started to visualize all the memories he made with his mother. From every good memory to every bad one.
Hunter couldn't control his emotions any more. He didn't knew how to feel. Was he supposed to be angry, was he supposed to be sad? He didn't know. While he kept thinking about about his mother, it became too overwhelming for him. He started to cry his heart out, moments passed by and he started shouting his lungs out. He had no control what so ever. He started to smash his dashboard of the car while while his tears were still streaming from his eyes.
Fifteen minutes passed by as Hunter finally calmed himself down. With puffy eyes he gave a quick glance through his car window for a final time before he walked out of his car. As he stood beside his car he inhaled some fresh air before he sighed it out, before he stepped back in the car and drove he took a long final glance at the dark sky which were litten up by millions of bright stars.

The next morning Beth woke up by the sound of her alarm clock. She barely even slept that night. She kept thinking about what happened the previous night at the restaurant. How Hunter received that call, how he got that worried and nervous look on his face and how quickly he rushed out of the restaurant.
Beth tried to reach through Hunter the whole evening by calling and messaging him. But yet she didn't receive any form of reaction from Hunter. It made her worry even more, because usual Hunter text Beth 'Goodnight' and 'Goodmorning' every night as we woke up or was about to sleep. So the fact Hunter didn't do these things made Beth think that something serious was going on.
The first thing Beth did was check her phone. She did receive a couple of text messages but none from her boyfriend. So she tried to text him again, hoping that Hunter would react immediately.
Beth: 'Goodmorning Hunter'
Beth: 'Please tell me if you're alright, I'm worried'
Beth: 'Call me asap. Love you x'
Beth sighed and put her phone away. She needed to clear her mind for a little while and get ready for the day. She took a shower, had a breakfast and listened to some music, but even that couldn't stop her mind thinking about Hunter.
Hours had passed and still no signs of Hunter. After a couple more calls and texts Beth had enough. The only actual thing she could was to take a visit at Hunter's place, and that's exactly what Beth did.
Beth decided to take a walk to Hunter's place, since her is within walking distance from Hunter's. After a quick five minute walk, Beth stood in front of the door of her boyfriend's house. They first thing she noticed was that Hunter's car wasn't at it's usual spot on the driveway, probably meaning that he wasn't at home. But she wasn't sure.
The next thing she noticed is that every window of the was still covered with windows from the inside. It was a bright and sunny day and it was already noon. Was there no one at home?
Beth pushed those away and decided the ring the bell. After ringing she waited for a moment, but no one opened the door. Beth decided to ring again. After waiting for a brief moment again, Beth gave her hope up. As she was about to walk away, she heard the sounds of an unlocking door. A few second later Hailey slowly opened the door.
Hailey didn't looked so well. She looked kinda down, had puffy eyes, slightly red nose and bags under her eyes. It seemed like she didn't had gotten any sleep or cried all night.
"Hey Hailey." Beth greeted with a slight tone unsure tone. "Uhm… Are you alright Hailey?" Hailey just stood without any movement on the doorway. Beth noticed that Hailey did her best trying not to cry. She began to get worried. Did something happened to her? Did something happened to Hunter?
''Hailey, did something happen?" Hailey asked in a soft and worried tone. ''You know you can tell me anything." Hailey nodded softly and a moment later she bursted into crying. Beth stood in slight shock and worry, she defenitely knew something was going on.
As Beth was facing a crying Hailey, she got slightly nervous, she didn't knew how to handle situations with people who are upset. As the crying was getting louder, Beth knew she had to something.
So she slowly took some steps the crying teen and started to embrace her in a comforting hug. She knows that most people would feel more comforted after an hug. "Please don't cry Hailey." Beth said softly while still embracing Hailey. "Do you want to tell me what happened?" She asked while looking Hailey in her teary eyes.
"She's dead, Beth." Hailey responded with a shaky voice. Beth gave Hailey a shocked yet confused look.
"Wh-Who died?"
"Hunter's mother…" Beth was speechless.
"I… I am so sorry Hailey." Beth sadly responded as she embraced Hailey with another hug.
"I invited them to come and celebrate Hunter's passing… They were on their w-way… And they slipped of the road…" Hailey cried. "His dad is fighting for his life in the intensive care… This is all my fault… I shouldn't have invited them in the first place, then this would have never happened-"
"Hey, don't you ever say that!" Beth said as she looked the shorter teen in her eyes. "This isn't your fault okay. I know it sounds kinda harsh, but it was unfortunate. This could happen to anyone. So please do not feel quilty."
"I know you're right… B-but I still have that thought of guilt rushing through my mind you know…"
"I know that… And it's understandable. It's a big deal and you probably need some to get over about it." Beth said. "You know, my dad passed away when I was eight, caused by cancer. I was devastated."
"I'm sorry…"
"It's okay…" Beth said as she gave Hailey a small smile. "Anyways, my father always told me gesture and appreciate the small things in life every time and every day. So even when the most tragic things happen, my dad actually remembered me to keep my head up and move on with life by doing the things that make you happy. Of course it took me some time, to normally move on, but in a moment you'll realize that life is way too short to be sad and think about all the shitty things."
"Thanks… I do feel slightly bettter…" Hailey said softly.
"Every time Hailey. Just remember that I'm here for you every time if you want to talk okay? Just like Hunter, your mom and your other friends." Beth said.
"I will keep that in mind." Hailey said as she tried her tears.
"How is your mom holding up, if I may ask?" Beth wondered.
""Not good Beth, she locked herself up in her bedroom… She cried all night long, and I have no idea how to cheer her up. And she's probably worried sick of Hunter because he left the house after hearing the news last night and he hasn't returned home yet."
"Hunter is missing?" Beth asked worried. Hailey nodded sadly.
"At first thought I thought he will crash over at your place last night, I even tried to call him several times to make sure that he was alright, but he didn't picked up his phone… I have literally no idea where he could be besides your place."
"I see that he took his car, you know if he didn't mention any locations where he liked to be?" Beth asked. Hailey shook her head.
"Nothing except the studio…" Hailey said.
"I need to go find him." Beth exclaimed.
"Should I go with you?'' Hailey asked.
"Thanks for the offer Hailey, but you should stay with your mother, I'm sure she needs your support at the moment." Beth said. Hailey understood and nodded.
"Let me know if you got some news okay?" Hailey said.
"I will. And head up alright." Beth smiled as she gave Hailey a final hug before she left.
( COUPLE OF HOURS EARLIER )
"Thanks again for letting me stay over the night Michelle, I really appreciate it." Hunter said thankfully to the blonde girl.
"It's no big deal Hunt." Michelle smiled as she walked out of the kitchen and handed Hunter, who was sitting on the sofa, a glass of orange juice and took a seat next to him. "Well do you want to tell what happened yesterday? There has to be a reason why you came to my place at almost 3 in the morning."
"Yeah, it wasn't like the best evening in my life…"
"Well, tell me what happened." Michelle suggested. Hunter wanted to tell his best friend what happened, but it was harder than it thought it would be. How the hell did you tell someone that your own mother has died. Michelle noticed that Hunter was struggling to tell her so she hold his hand for comfort.
"Hey, I'm sorry. You don't have to tell me if you aren't ready to tell me okay." Michelle said softly with a small smile.
''Don't you worry. I really want to tell you, but I find it hard to talk about it, since I never dealt with this situation before." Hunter sadly said. Michelle noticed that a couple of tears were rolling down his cheek. Michelle got slightly nervous, but she tried her best to keep calm as possible.
"Just take your time, I'll wait, alright?" Michelle said as she hold Hunter's hand slightly tighter. Hunter took a couple of deep breaths before he finally decided to tell her.
"Well... my parents were on their way to Toronto, they wantrd to surprise me." Hunter said. "On their way here the car... It slipped of the road and it crashed..."
"Oh my... Are they alright?" Michelle wondered concerned.
"My dad is in the hospital, he is in a coma..." Hunter said sadly. Michelle slightly teared up and looked Hunter directly in the eyes.
"What happened to your mom?" Michelle asked. Hunter looked away from her and remained silence. Hunter kept being silent and Michelle probably knew what that meant. After a short while Hunter couldn't hide his emotions any longer. He bursted out in tears. Michelle got closer to Hunter and embraced him with a tight and comforting hug, while dropping down a few tears as well. She could hardly believe that Hunter's mother isn't here anymore. She was such a lovely and caring person, Michelle had a really good bond with her. She always threated Michelle like she was her own child.
"I'm so sorry Hunter..." Michelle said softly while they were still hugging. "I'm here okay? I won't leave you." Minutes passed by and they were still embracing each other.
"Michelle?"
"Yes Hunter?" Michelle replied. Hunter gently broke down the hug and started into Michelle bright and slightly puffy brown eyes.
"As a friend of mine... Could you do me a favor?" Hunter asked.
"Of course, what do you want me to do?" Michelle wondered as he looked back into his eyes.
"Do you want to go to the hospital with me? I want to visit my dad, but I don't think that I'm ready to go by myself..."
"Hey, of course I'll come with you. I will always be by your side." Michelle said with a small smile.
"Thanks Michelle." Hunter said as he tried to give her his best smile as possible throughout his tears.
"Anytime Hunter,". Michelle said. "And Hunter, I honestly can't believe that you kept this to yourself whole night... It must have been crazy... Please, please don't forget I'm always ready to support you, no matter what."
"I know, and thanks for that. I just really needed some time for myself to... handle with all this shit... I really wanted to tell you when I got here in the middle of the night, but I was way too upset, still am actually... But Michelle, I'm very thankful to have a person like you in my life, I really mean it..." Michelle blushed a bit and give her friend a smile.
"I'm glad to have you in my life as well Hunt." Michelle said as she planted a quick kiss on his cheek.
"Just tell me whenever you're ready and want go, alright?" Hunter nodded and gave her a smile.

For almost two long hours Beth searched for Hunter throughout town. She looked at every location she thought Hunter could possibly be. His house, the studio, Culture Shock, his other favorite spots in town, but he was no where to be found. She even tried to call him several times and sent him dozens of messages, yet nothing. Every minute that passed by, she got more worried. She didn't know Hunter that long, but she know that it was nothing like him to dissapear out of nowhere.
Again minutes passed by and Beth got desperate and decided to stop searching since it didn't helped her a slightest bit.
As she drove to her way home, she noticed that she was driving in a familiar neighbourhood. She quickly scanned the area and noticed that she was closely at Michelle's home, she still recognized it from the surprise party A-Troupe gave her a little while ago. Beth decided to go by and check if Hunter is there. I he wasn't there maybe Michelle could help her out.
A moment later Beth found herself at the front door of Michelle's house ringing her doorbell. She waited for while, but no reaction. She rang again and yet again nothing.
With a lot of dissapointment and concern Beth walked back to her car. Once in the car she deeply things for a final time. A short moment later something rushed to her head. How didn't she think of it earlier? She thought of the sad conversation she had with Hailey earlier today. There was one place where he could be at the moment.

"Hi, I'm here to visit my dad... Adam Robertson." Hunter mentioned slightly nervous as he stood in front of the info desk in the hospital alongside Michelle. (A/N: I'm not sure if any surnames of characters got mentioned in the show, so I just picked to first name that popped up in my head). The hospital employer quickly typed in the name of Hunter's father.
"He is currently in room 2.47. Go to levels up with the elevator, exit on the left, continue walking down the hall and the room should be at your right hand side. There is a medic in the room who will help you further if needed." Hunter and Michelle thanked the lady behind the desk and took the elevator up.
As they began walking down the hallway towards to room Hunter felt his heart rate beat up a lot faster as he came closer. He didn't what to expect if he opened the door? He wasn't sure if he could handle it. Michelle noticed that Hunter was getting anxious, so without talking she grabbed Hunter's hand and hold it as they continued walking to the room.
As they finally reached room 2.47 a medic walked out of it. "Hi, how can I help you?"
"We're here to visit Adam Robertson." Michelle responded to the medic.
"Are you related to the patient?" The medic ask.
"He is my father…" Hunter sadly said.
"Oh, I'm sorry." The medic responded. "Of course you can go in. If there is something just press on the blue button right behind the bed."
"Thank you." Michelle friendly thanked. The medic nodded and left the two alone.
"Are you ready?" Michelle asked. Hunter stared at the door for a while before he nodded. "Great, I'll be waiting right here alright?" Hunter turned around to face Michelle.
"Wouldn't you like to come in with me?" Hunter asked softly.
"I don't really think-"
"Please? It would really mean a lot if you would come with me…" Hunter said. Michelle sighed and nodded her head. Hunter gave Michelle a short smile before turning back facing the door. Hunter stared at the door knobe for a couple of seconds before taking a deep breath and opening the door.
The two teens walked into a white hospital room. The first thing they noticed was the hospital bed with Hunter's sleeping dad on top of it. He had all these scary looking tubes attached to his body which were connected on a couple of machines. Next to his bed was also a heart monitor which made the only sound you could hear in the room.
It hurt Hunter to see his father suffer like this. He just did not understand why his was right here? His was a great person with a nice personality. He did a lot for others and never did he complain if thing had gotten rough, he always stayed positive. So what did he deserve to lay here on this hospital bed?
Hunter slowly walked towards the bed while not taking his gaze of his father. He took a seat next to the bed and slowly grabbed his hand. Michelle slowly followed him and took a seat next to her friend.
"Hey dad… It's me Hunter." Hunter started. "You probably heard it already… I passed my exams, mainly of the help and support of my friends but mostly of the love and support mom and you gave me all the time throughout the years. I actually never noticed how much that meant to me until it happened yesterday… I'm not sure if you know this already, but mom… Mom is with the angles right know… Watching and guarding us right know, making sure that you will be alright and that we can move on with our lives. I know it won't be easy, but we'll have each other, we will be able to go through with this together. Just like we went through a lot of other stuff together..." Hunter quickly wiped away some tears which had rolled down on his cheek. Michelle, who got emotional as well, put a hand on Hunter's shoulder to comfort him.
"Dad, I know I wasn't like the 'perfect son'. We had our difficulties and dissagreements but yet you and mom always believed in me. You would have done everything for me... I want to apologize for every argument, fight and dissagreement we've ever had. Back then I never realized how you just wanted the best for me, but I do realize it now... I want to tell you that I'm so grateful to call you my father. I'm not sure if you know, but I really look up to you. Everything I do right now is actually an attempt to make mom and you proud at me, my dancing, my SET's, everything... I gave it my everything since you guys gave everything for me. And look where I am now... I passed my exams and I'll be dancing at an international dance competition soon... All thanks to you guys, my inspirations... And... uhm... I know I don't say it much to you, but I-I love you very much..."
More tears rolled down on Hunter's cheek, as he still holding the hand of his father. Michelle cried as well and embraced Hunter in a hug. Hunter burried his face on his best friend's shoulder and allowed all the tears that were inside him to flow out. After minutes of crying and comfort the two pulled away.
"Hunter, I know they are proud of you and that they love you with their whole hearts. Don't forget that alright." Michelle sadly mentioned. Hunter slightly nodded and gave her a quick hug to show her how thankful he is. As they broke apart again Michelle stood up from her seat. "I'm getting us some water, I'll be right back." Michelle exit the room, as she closed the door and turned around she saw a person standing right in front of her.
"Beth?"
"Hey Michelle." Beth responded with a barely visable smile. "How is Hunter holding up?" She asked softly.
"You've heard about it, didn't you?" Michelle asked softly. Beth simply nodded. "Honestly, he isn't doing well Beth... I've known Hunter for like my whole life, and I have never seen him so upset like this..."
"I'm sorry to hear that. I know how it feels to lose someone you love..."
"I'n sorry..." Michelle sadly said.
"It's ok..." Beth said."All he really needs right know is the support of his family and friends, especially from you."
"M-me?" Michelle wondered confused. Beth nodded.
"Yeah, you." Beth said. "Hunter told me how close you guys are, even how you the of you used to date each other like a year ago... Anyway, you know him better than anyone in this town, and I really think that he needs you more than ever at the moment. And Michelle, could you please tell Hunter that he should contact Hailey and Robbin whenever he is ready. They haven't heard anything from him since last night, they're really worried."
"I will do that." Michelle said.
"And please tell him that I'll be there for him whenever he needs me." Beth quickly added. Beth nodded and gave her a smile. Beth smiled and turned around to make her way out. Before she was able to walk away Michelle quickly said something to the brunette.
"Hunter is very lucky to have you as a girlfriend." Michelle smiled. Beth smile once again before she walked out of the silent hallway.
Michelle stood at the same spot for a while, just thinking about the short conversation she had with Beth. She and Beth hardly ever talked to each other. But she trusted Michelle enough to share something personal about her, losing somebody she loved.
After realizing what happened she quickly went to the nearest water gallon where she filled to cups of water. She straightly went back to the room and when she opened the door of the room, she saw something that she never expected to see.
An highly pitched tone was heard through the room, the line on the heart monitor was perfectly horizontal shaped. Hunter who was in tears, desperatly kept pressing on the button behind the bed multiple times.
"Hunter? Wh-what happened?!" Michelle wondered worried.
"Michelle, please get someone… Quick!" Hunter desperatly said. At the moment Hunter said that multiple doctors hurried into the room.
"Sir, Madam we need you to get out of the room right now." A doctor said to the teens.
"No, I don't want to leave him!" Hunter exclaimed as he hold tighter in his father's hand.
"Please sir, we need to do our jobs here." The doctor said.
"N-no, let me stay!"
"Hunter, we need to go. These people need space to do their jobs." Michelle said while hoping Hunter would leave the room. Hunter kept refusing to leave, so after some pushing and pulling the doctors quickly escorted Hunter out of the room and locked the door behind them. Hunter was freaking out. Michelle did anything she could to try to calm him down. Michelle hugged him and let him cry it out on her shoulders.
"Shh, it's going to alright…" Michelle softly said directly into his ears, while not being sure if it's going to be okay.
