(I spent way too much time figuring out how to make her work as a bg3/dnd character. Have fun terrorizing your dms with this build."
"First, we need to figure out a plan of action." Gale said.
"Well Wyll and I were going to go investigate the crypt nearby. See if any weapons or magic items were left behind."
"I can get us in there easily." Astartion smiled. "Though I'd rather not go mucking about with a bunch of dusty old bones."
"We don't have much choice." Shadowheart reminded him. "We're short on everything. Food, coin, magic."
"Indeed it feel like my powers been cut down, I used to be able to tussle with hill giants and yet now an owl bear would be all that it takes to kill any of us. We need to get rid of the parasites." Wyll responded.
"So it's set then, we raid the crypt and rob the graves within." Gale stated.
"Can you not put it that way." Ruby cringed at the thought. Looking down at her hands she wiped the blood off on her thigh.
"Alright, lets go." Astarion said impatiently.
Chapter 3: Crypt of the Scribe
Ruby walk along side Wyll and Gale as she took glances at Shadow heart and Astarion. "Never seen an elf before Miss Rose?" Gale asked.
"Well... where I'm from magic and elves are just part of children's stories." Ruby stated.
"What, but the rose petals and the scythe..." Shadowheart started.
"Well it's a big world. Wherever our little blossom is from perhaps her people have another name for magic." Astarion suggested. "What do you call your ability?"
"It's my semblance. A projection of my soul." Ruby stated as her red aura glowed around her hand.
"Fascinating... I've never seen a person manifest their soul outside of their still living physical body." Gale said examining her hand. "Completely disconnected from the weave..." Gale said looking Ruby and down till he met her eyes. "Hang on..."
"What is it?" She asked.
"You... have silver eyes..." Gale said leaning in close. "Strange I don't know the source of that little conundrum. There's divine magic in your eyes yet it's not connected to the weave or any god I know of."
"Wait... your saying I have... the old lady back in the cave also pointed out how unusual my eyes were." Ruby said.
"So you have a connection to a God of your homeland. I'm a cleric of my faith." Shadowheart retorted.
"And what faith would that be Shadowheart?" Wyll asked.
"That's none of your concern." The half elven woman responded.
"Well... I never really believed in a god... and any I read about were in myths and legends. In fact I've never heard of anything like this place, magic elves, dwarves and teiflings, the hells, the four kingdoms I grew up knowing of were always under the threat of the creatures of Grimm. Where I'm from, there's only humans and Faunas."
"What's a Faunas?" Wyll asked, rubbing his chin.
"You're kidding me? They look like humans but have like cat ears, or lizard scales or a monkey tail. You have elves, dwarves, and goblins but Faunas don't exist here? Where did that ship take me?!" Ruby ran her fingers through her hair. "It's like I'm on a different planet!"
"Not so much planet, but more so universe." Gale picked up two rocks and held them out in the palm of each hand. "Ruby. Take a breath. So each rock represents a universe." He lifted his right hand. "This represents you home universe. Your world, all the stars and planets and extra dimensional planes of existence ruled over by the gods of your reality."
Ruby nodded as she looked at the pebble representing her old life.
"Then we have this universe." He raised his left hand slightly. "Home to Toril, the divine planes, the nine hells, the elemental planes. Ruled over by the pantheons of gods under Ao. They aren't reflections of each other, they have their own paths and evolutionary history. Now between Universes is the Astral plane, a realm when time stops, as it's outside the regular constraints of the material world." He let Ruby process that information.
"Certain ships like a mindflayer Nautiloid can cross the Astral sea. These are call spelljammers, and their exceedingly rare in Faerun. I would need to return to water deep and call upon a number of old favors in order to speak with the captain of a spelljammer. Another possibility is takking a Nautiloid for our own use, though living ships then to be problematic." Gale, finished.
"So... There's a chance to go home?" Ruby asked.
"Ruby your not the first wayward soul that's found herself in the wrong universe." Gale smiled.
The group kept walking down the path till the still burning wreckage of the nautiloid came into veiw. "Should we look for other survivors?" Wyll asked.
"Mostly saw corpses. Now that I think about it, wasn't there a teifling Paladin on the nautilod? She released me from my pod and helped me and the gith take control of the ship. She grabbed that Cambion's burning sword before the ship made another jump... I think she may have fallen off during the jump actually. I think her name was Celest... Wonder where she ended up" Shadow heart mentioned.
"Oh, that's not a good sign, best case, she's landed in a distant universe, worst case straight into the far realms." Wyll stated. "I wouldn't wish that fate on anyone."
"At least with the Hells and the Abyss you can escape." Gale agreed as the group reached the old crypt.
"Who would build a temple out here?" Ruby asked.
"Well, there is a nearby abandoned village. Though this temple appears to predate it by a few hundred, possibly thousand years. Though that could just be the current structures." Gale speculated.
"Well, the people who built both are long since dead, so it's not much use worrying about the age of these buildings. We need whatever we can salvage, and if we find a magic weapon or two I doubt the refugees would mind if we kept them." Aatarion said a little to dismissively.
As the approached a short man was arguing with a young man. "I told ya it's a ship, and if were going to get it's treasure we need to move now." Before he noticed the group approaching. "Ah what's all this then. Stay out of here, the crypt and the ship are ours." Up on the walls of the temple courtyard was a hooded man the same hight as the Arron and a woman in a simple robe with a staff.
"Easy there, I would move on from here as fast as you can, that's a mindflayer ship. You'll only find death there." Wyll said the group looked at eachother.
"Give me one good reason not to gut you right here?"
"Grimbelglok... I wouldn't push it." The human said nervously. "We got enough from the chambers of the temple."
"Really, threatening us? I've never met someone so indignant." Shadowheart flicked her head in annoyance.
"Well, with all the goblins about I doubt this Crypt will be safe long." Ruby said.
"Goblins, ah, there must be a horde nearby, Cryes, get the others were heading back to Bauldr's gate."
The woman ran down the steps as the hooded figure came down as well and started to pack up their camp. A few minutes later, a decently large group of adventurers came out of the temple with bags slung over their shoulders.
"Right, no sense in dying." The group took off.
"I'm surprised we didn't need to fight our way through." Shadowheart spoke up as the five of them made their way into the crypt.
It was clear their rush out of the temple had been rushed. Scraps of food and piles of old books had been left behind in the first chamber. "I wonder who was worshipped here. It's clear their followers are long gone." Shadowheart looked around, brushing the dust off a plaque to rusted with age to be read.
"Nothing left but bone dust." Astarion added.
"Keep on your toes, just because it's abandoned won't mean it isn't dangerous." Wyll stated, heading into the second chamber.
"I agree. Magic traps can last decades to centuries after the caster is long since dead. And anywhere the dead are buried, could house undead."
"Undead?" Ruby asked as she froze on the spot, thinking of a rotting corpse pulling it's self out of a muddy grave.
"You okay dear, why you look like you've seen a ghost." Astartion laughed, his own pale complexion practically glowing in the dimlight. His red eyes trailing a little too long on the young huntress' neck.
Ruby forced her eyes shut and the group headed into the second chamber. A collapsed wall led to and empty storage room. A door to the left of the entrance to the second chamber led to a sleeping quarters.
Three beds a wardrobe and a chest filled the room along with some crates and a shelf full of books.
"These books have to do with the proper disposal of the dead according to their patron gods. But... the practices are old, pretty sundering as there's a few misding" Shadowheart commented as she riffled through the pages.
Ruby opened the wardrobe and found old dusty grey clothes. Taking the best parts she pack what was salvageable into her pack. Few coins fell free of one of the pockets. "Gold." Ruby commented heading over to Wyll. Placing the few coins she had found into the coin pouch.
Astarion rummaged through the crates. "That's odd why would monks have thrives tools." Pulling out leather wrapped tool kits before placing them in his pack.
Gale flipped open the chest to find a ctack of candles.and a small coin purse next to them. Tucking the candles into his pack he tossed the coins to Wyll. "Anything else?" Gale asked.
"Looks like that's it." Wyll said The group moved back into the second chamber. The right hand side on the for end was another door. Right next to it was a another set of lockpicking tools but the door had no lock.
"That's odd." Ruby said placing her palms on the door and giving it a firm shove, but it didn't budge. "Come one open." She grunted pushing harder.
"There has to be a way in, let's check the last chamber." Gale put a hand on her shoulder.
The far wall had a final doorway, into a main hall of sorts. Bookshelves and pews lined the hall and a couple chests and a grand statue near the back of the chamber. As they dispersed Ruby found herself reading the texts. "These are..."
"Death records, name, occupation and god or goddess. Date of birth and date of death. These monks were dedicated to their duty to preserve the memory of the dead." Gale said as he riffled through books. Pocketing a few scrolls as he found them. "Can't be Myrkul none of his imagery is here... perhaps Kelemvor or, no none of the records mention him... hmmm I wonder."
"I still don't know any of what your saying." Ruby commented.
"Perhaps later tonight I'll sit you down for a lesson on the divine cosmology of our world. And you can teach me how your scythe works. It's fascinating." Gale offered a hand.
"It's still strange to me, that gods are real." Ruby looked down as she put another book back to pick up another.
"Ah yes, but that's to be expected. And you have my word, I'll do everything I can to help you get home." Gale smiled. "I'm curious about your world as well. Tell me, what is it like?"
"Well, it's much more advanced, though we don't have ships that can travel universes. There are four large Kingdoms, Vale, Vacuo, Mystral and Atlas, and smaller nations like the island of Menagerie and then independenttowns and villages. I was studying at Beacon academy. The greatest school for Huntsmen and Huntresses. We learn to thighs the Grim. Creatures of darkness that have hunted us since the beginning of time."
"Fascinating. Monsters must be much more aggressive in your world to cause such disparity in population centers. And These huntsmen and huntresses master weapons and their semblances to fight the Grim?"
"Yes. We dedicate our lives to protecting the weak." Ruby smiled. "I was the leader of my team with my partners Weiss, my sister Yang and Blake."
"Oh well then we definitely need to get you home. It 's not right to keep a leader from her team." Gale ruffled her hair.
"Hey stop that, I hate it when Yang does it. I don't need that here."
There was a loud noise as wyll pulled a iron ring set in the far wall of the chamber. Behind them they heard the locked door swing open. "Found it." He laughed.
"Don't go pulling things that you don't know what they do. We're already on edge for traps." Shadowheart scolded him. The group headed back to the formerly locked door and made their way deeper into the temple.
Hey chapter 3 is done. Next chapter is gonna cover the rest of the temple then heading back to the grove.
