Ms. Cordwain knocked on the door to the Parr's apartment. A second later, Jack answered the door.
"Ready to go, Jack?"
"Almost." He finished packing a bag.
Hilary entered the room, with a jacket and a suitcase. "Do you think it'll be cold where we're going or warm?"
"I think layers are always a good idea."
"I thought the terms of our agreement were quite clear." Ms. Cordwain reminded Jack. "I asked you for a favor. You alone."
"I'm not leaving Hilary here with Evelyn lurking about." He said firmly. "So either we both go or we both stay."
Ms. Cordwain thought for a moment. "Then we'll have to purchase another plane ticket, won't we?"
Laura Reed came over and helped Hilary put on her jacket.
Jack looked surprised. "Wait, we're flying?"
"Don't worry, I'm covering expenses, even the new ones."
"You're a real lady, aren't you?" Clark came down the stairs, having overheard the conversation. He handed Jack another bag and walked over to Ms. Cordwain. "All right, Cordwain. You're going out there with my family. Just know if anything happens to them, I'll …"
"Then you'll what? Cross the town line and Clark Grimm will hunt me down in his animal rescue van?"
"I'll be devastated. This isn't a threat. It's a request. Take care of them."
"I promise no harm will come to your family. After all, we have a deal."
Soon, the three were driving out of town down a deserted road in Ms. Cordwain's car. Jack sat in the passenger seat and Hilary sat in the back seat.
"So where are we going?" Hilary asked.
"Logan International Airport." Ms. Cordwain answered.
"I think she meant the one after that." Added Jack.
"Let's take things one step at a time, shall we?"
Jack glanced down at the sandals on Ms. Cordwain's feet. "You really think that those shoes are gonna work?"
"Well, if they don't, and I revert to my cursed self, we'll all have some problems. It'll work."
The car passed the 'leaving Pixfaire' sign and crossed the town line, causing a wave of magic to shimmer over Ms. Cordwain.
"So?" Jack wondered. He and Hilary looked at her, curious whether or not the shoes had worked.
"My name is Imelda Rivera. And we're going to find my relative."
Laura Reed was in the kitchen when Clark entered, holding their super suits.
"Come on. The other supers are on Evelyn watch. They've got eyes everywhere, but they could use our help." He handed Laura Reed her suit.
"Really? How hard can it be to find a supervillain in a small town?"
As they were about to leave, they opened the door but were surprised to see Derek, who was just about to knock.
"Apparently not very hard."
"Derek, you're back."
"I know you think I'm responsible for poor Dr. Cutter's death..." Derek began to say.
"He's alive." Clark informed him.
"What?" Derek looked surprised.
"You were framed." Laura Reed added.
"Who would do that?"
"Your mother. She's here."
"But… but that's… that's… not possible."
"When we found a way back, so did she. We were wrong, and we're so sorry."
"I know. But if she's here, then we're all in danger. Please, you have to let me see my daughter. I can protect her."
"She's not here."
"What?"
"Ms. Cordwain asked Jack-Jack to help her find her relative." Clark explained. "They left town about an hour ago with Hilary."
"And no one told me?"
"We didn't know where you were. And to be honest, Derek, I don't think Jack-Jack has to run anything by you."
"No, I suppose he doesn't." Derek turned and left.
The two sighed in relief and Laura Reed closed the door. "Well, that went well."
"With him, it doesn't get much better. Come on, let's go find Evelyn."
"Where?"
"No idea. But I know who to ask."
Wearing their super suits, Clark, Laura Reed, and Lucius were down at the docks with Katherine, who had just been released from the hospital.
"You didn't even ask me about my recovery." Katherine said, walking with a noticeable limp.
"How are you feeling, Katherine?" Clark asked, sarcastically.
"Come closer and feel for yourself."
Laura Reed shoved Katherine her still sore ribs. "Where's the blimp? Come on, Felix told us. It's shielded somehow, isn't it?"
"Yeah, it is. Follow me. I don't know what you expect to find. Evelyn won't be there."
"Well, maybe she left something behind that will tell us where she went." Clark pushed Katherine forward. "Let's go."
"And no funny business. I'm watching you, dog girl." Lucius threatened.
"Yes, ice man. That should deter me from any maleficence." Katherine said mockingly.
"Oh, don't worry, Karen. She'll help us." Laura Reed assured.
"What makes you so sure?"
"Because you're an explorer. You know which way the wind blows, and right now, it's gusting towards us."
"Oh. I see where your son got his gumption." Katherine looked at Laura Reed and smirked. "Follow me."
They arrived at the pier where the blimp was anchored. Katherine walked up the invisible ramp and disappeared behind the shield. The others followed suit.
"You flew this blimp from our land. Can you fly it back?"
"This blimp? She's a marvel. We weathered many a storm together, seeing many strange amazing worlds. But to travel between lands, she must go through a portal.
"Yeah, what do you know about Evelyn's plans?"
"Evelyn's not the most commutative of women. But let me tell you this. Whatever malice she has in mind, her weapon of choice is in here." Katherine tapped on something that was covered by a tarp. Clark and Lucius pulled back the tarp, revealing a cage. Inside was the shrunken dinosaur from Clawtooth Mountain.
"Who's that?" Laura Reed wondered.
"So Evelyn used technology to make him travel-sized." Lucius asked.
"Whatever she plans to do with him, it's important." Katherine guessed.
"Oh, I think you know exactly what she plans." Laura Reed got in Katherine's face. "You're holding out."
"Well, either have your handsome husband torture it out of me, which I promise will be fun for both…"
"Ok, I will." Clark grabbed Katherine by the throat and shoved her against the wall.
"I don't know what she's planning. Why don't you wake the dinosaur and ask him yourself?" Katherine extended her hand, holding the key to the cage.
Laura Reed took the key and unlocked the door. She crouched down and gently touched the dinosaur on the shoulder, startling him awake. "Hey. It's alright. You're safe now. What's your name?"
"Arlo." He answered, crawling out of the cage. "Where's that witch?"
"She's gone."
"What did she do? She made me small."
Clark grabbed Arlo's shoulder to turn him around. "Come on. Let's get you out of here."
"You!" Arlo snarled as he grabbed Clark with his tail and sent him flying backward.
"Bob!" Laura Reed cried.
"Hey, over here, you big-" Lucius was about to blast ice at Arlo, but he threw him against the wall with his tail, causing him to hit his head.
Arlo tried to leave. Clark grabbed him by the tail, but Arlo swatted him away. Suddenly, Laura Reed smacked Arlo's head with an outstretched fist.
"Step away from my husband."
"You may have me outnumbered, but this isn't over." Arlo turned to face Clark. "You think I forgot what you did? I didn't. You'll pay for your evil. I promise you'll pay!" Arlo turned and ran out of the blimp.
Héctor was watching TV in a common room at the hospital, when Michelle entered, carrying a box.
"Hey." She came over and attempted a smile. He turned to face Michelle but said nothing. "You don't remember me, do you?" She guessed.
"Um... I'm sorry, no I-I don't." He shook his head.
Michelle set down her box and sat in a chair next to him. "I'm Michelle." She turned off the TV. "You used to come into my mum's diner a lot. Before. Anyway, I thought you could use some comforts from home." She reached into the box and pulled out a small book. "You always told me about your music, so I brought your songbook."
Héctor took the book from her, unsure of what to say. "Thank you. Were... were we really friends?"
"Yeah, we were." She nodded and smiled sadly.
Clark, Laura Reed, and Lucius were sitting at a booth at the diner.
"Bob, did that dinosaur just say he'll make you pay? For what?" Laura Reed asked, concerned.
"I have no idea. I've never seen that guy before."
"Well, he sure knows you." Lucius said.
Clark thought for a moment, remembering hearing something long ago about a Mr. Incredible clone that had been sent to the dinosaur's world to cause trouble. "No. It's not about me. He just thinks it is."
"How?" Laura Reed wondered. "We never saw any evil clones like that before."
"It's the only thing that makes sense. Must have happened behind our backs." Clark got up from the booth. "Come on."
"W-what? Where are we going?"
"To find out just what kind of trouble that clone got himself into. Lucius, gather the other supers. We need to keep an eye out for this dinosaur."
Soon, Jack, Hilary, and Ms. Cordwain arrived at the airport. They picked up their boarding passes from the desk and entered the line for security.
"Have you ever been outside Pixfare before, Ms. Cordwain?" Hilary asked.
"No."
"Are you nervous?"
"No." She answered, holding back her annoyance.
"Are you worried about meeting your relative?"
"No, Hilary, I'm fine."
"How about we talk about this later, kid?" Jack suggested. "We're next." Hilary and Jack began taking off their shoes to put in the bins. "You've gotta put your shoes in."
"How terribly uncivilized." Ms. Cordwain said, disgusted.
Hilary stepped through the metal detector. Ms. Cordwain put her purse in the bin.
"Uh, shoes go in the basket." The Security Officer instructed.
"What?"
"Shoes go in the basket."
"I can't." She whispered to Jack.
"You have to."
"It ain't rocket science, lady." The man behind them interrupted. "You ever been on a plane before?"
"Have you ever been smacked by a boot before?" She threatened.
Jack stepped in between them, stopping her from causing a fight. "Sorry. My... aunt is a little nervous. We're headed to a family reunion."
"Aunt?"
"Just put your shoes in the bin." Jack lowered his voice. "I'll help you get through."
"If I take these off, I could forget who I am."
"I'm not gonna let that happen." Jack assured.
After pausing for a moment, Ms. Cordwain let out a sigh and nodded. "Okay." She took her shoes off and put them in the bin. Immediately, she felt pounding in her head, her hearing became distorted and she stumbled. She managed to make it through the metal detector with Jack close behind. He quickly grabbed her shoes from the bin on the other side. As soon as Jack slipped them onto her feet, her hearing and mind returned to normal. Jack stared at her concerned; making sure that she was ok. Though feeling winded, Ms. Cordwain gave a slight nod and the two of them began to put their shoes back on.
"Guys, there's a Cinnabon's here!" Hilary called, waiting for them.
In a deserted alley near the docks, Katherine placed a pair of goggles on the ground. She began looking around for Evelyn, but was surprised to see Derek.
"Hello, Muntz."
"Syndrome."
"Expecting my mother? The one you were supposed to kill?"
"Oh, that. Well, I didn't want to deprive you of a happy reunion."
"Well, it's your lucky day. She and I have made amends."
"And you're here to thank me? How sweet."
"She wants to know if they've found the blimp."
"Well, you can tell her she can ask me herself."
"She decided it wouldn't be wise for her to be out and about."
"Well, then, it is my lucky day. And you can tell her they found the blimp."
"Did you get her things off it?"
"I've been tied up in bed, and not in a good way."
"She needs her things."
"Oh, I'll bet she does. Well, that's good news then. A dinosaur got loose from the hold."
"You lost a dinosaur?" Derek looked skeptical.
"Well, a shrunken dinosaur."
"How is that good news?"
"Because, when he got free, he took one look at the supers, and became extremely murderous."
Derek then had an idea. "Hmm. A dinosaur in town who wants to kill the supers. This is just the distraction we need."
"That it is, dear."
Arlo was trying to walk in the middle of the street. He dodged swerving cars as they honked and beeped at him.
Later, Arlo sat on a log in the woods, looking sadly at the river. He saw Derek approach him and stood up quickly.
"Get away from me!"
"I'm here to help you."
"No. You're a human. I hate humans." Derek continued to walk towards him. "Don't come any closer! Or I'll kill you."
Derek chuckled. "Look, I hear you're in town because you want to kill someone. I can help. I hate the supers too, and if you want to destroy this town to get to him, well, I'm happy to do my part." Derek pulled a gadget out of his pocket. "This will make you bigger. It will return you to your former glory."
Arlo nodded hesitantly. Derek laughed as he pointed the gadget at Arlo and zapped, making him return to his former size.
"Now, get to work. As I'm sure you're aware, the effects won't last forever."
Ms. Cordwain was pacing back and forth as she, Jack, and Hilary were waiting by the gate for their flight.
"Do you want something to eat?" Jack asked.
"No."
"Is something wrong?"
"Stop asking me that! I'll be right back." Ms. Cordwain went into the restroom and looked in the mirror. She entered one of the stalls and locked the door. Still anxious, she started to pace back and forth, until she took out her boot and suddenly began violently smacking the toilet seat cover dispenser on the wall. Afterward, she leaned against the wall.
"Ms. Cordwain?" Hilary opened the bathroom door and called for her. "Ms. Cordwain? We're boarding soon. Are you coming?"
"Do you still think that Dr. Fields might still be in this town or back in our world?" Violet wondered.
"Well, Karen and the other supers are here, so she should be too." Dash guessed. "We should ask Karen." He suggested.
Later, Violet and Dash went to the university to find Karen when they bumped into someone.
"Oh! Sorry, excuse us."
They saw a familiar-looking woman with a bob cut and round-framed glasses, along with a lab coat and teacher ID. She turned to face the kids. "Oh, hello."
Violet looked at the teacher's ID card, realizing she looked similar to Karen. "'Marina Fields'. Any relation to Karen Fields?"
"Violet? Dash?" Dr. Fields asked.
"Yes. You know us?"
"It's me, Dr. Fields. Karen's mom."
"Dr. Fields! We knew you were here!" Violet said excitedly.
"You too!"
"Hey, have you seen Karen?" Dash asked.
"Yeah, about to leave class right now. Why?"
"We wanted to ask her if you were in town, but you already answered that." Violet explained.
"Anyways... I heard about that dinosaur that's rampaging in our town." Marina said.
"I saw that dinosaur. It was cool!" Dash said excitedly.
"I saw too. I've never seen a dinosaur alive, even after many years. That curse had us not aging, not including Hillary."
"I heard our parents say that Evelyn used technology to shrink him and bring him here." Violet mentioned.
"I might be able to help. I've been working on something in the lab after the curse broke." Marina said.
"Really?!" The kids asked, surprised.
"Come with me and I'll show you." Marina brought the kids into the lab at the university, which turned pretty high-tech after the curse was broken, with great machines, inventions, medical stuff, and even some IVF and test tubes with some liquids in them. "I have been busy working on some projects after the curse was lifted, but knowing just in case someone was going to turn human, I've been working on something."
"Can it be used on the dinosaur?" Violet asked.
"Well, we're working on it, but-" Just then, they heard giant thumping footsteps coming from outside. Almost like a dinosaur rampaging. Everyone rushed outside and saw that it was a giant green dinosaur running rampant throughout the town.
"What's that dinosaur stomping here?"One of the students wondered.
Some of the university students were recording the whole thing.
"Dash, we should find Mom and Dad." Violet said.
"I need to tell the college president to stop the situation and evacuate." Marina said, then faced the kids. "Violet! Dash! You go find your parents, I'll get the supers and the serum too."
Clark and Laura Reed watched from a distance as Arlo terrorized the town.
"That's right! Run! Run!" He picked up a car with his tail and threw it in Clark and Laura Reed's direction. The car landed behind them. They followed Arlo as he walked off.
The citizens of Pixfaire ran panicking in the streets.
"Head to the town hall!" Clark ordered everyone. "Bring anyone you find on the way!"
"Guess we found our dino. I just didn't think he would be so…"
"Giant?"
"My mistake."
"Ever stop one before?"
"No."
"Well… Here's to new firsts. Wait!" Clark yelled to Arlo to get his attention. Arlo heard him and turned around. "You don't have to do this!"
"Yeah, I do! You destroyed everything in my life! Now you're going to know what that feels like."
"The man who hurt you? That wasn't me. That was an evil copy."
Alro began to calm down, though not believing him. "That wasn't you?"
"No! As I said, It was an evil clone that killed your species! But some of them survived the curse and are here!"
"Why should I trust you?"
"Because I'm not the clone that is evil but the real me, the good guy." Clark said
"We're on your side, Arlo!" Laura Reed tried to explain. "We're good! We're here because of you. You know our son Jack-Jack. You gave him the magic compass."
"J-Jack?" Arlo said, feeling confused. "Let me talk to him. He says you're okay, then I'll stop."
"He's kind of out of town!"
"Really?"
"But when he gets back, I know he'll really want to talk to you."
"How convenient! Everyone I'm looking for isn't around! All you humans do is lie, cheat, and kill, and I'm sick of it!" Arlo started chasing after the two as they ran down the street.
"So, what's the plan?"
"Lead the dinosaur away from here so he can't hurt anyone."
"But if we keep heading in this direction, we're gonna hit the town line!"
"Okay, new plan." They stopped running as they reached the docks. Arlo was approaching from behind. Clark turned and started walking toward Arlo.
"What are you doing?"
"Giving him what he wants. Arlo! How about we make a deal?"
"I don't make deals with humans."
"Just hear me out. I'll surrender myself to you if you spare the lives of everyone in Pixfaire."
Laura Reed rushed to his side. "Bob, you can't do this."
"If I don't, the whole town will suffer. I can't allow that." He turned back to Arlo. "Well, what do you say?"
Arlo took a minute to think it over. "Deal." He lunged toward Clark and tried to jump on him, but Laura Reed pulled Clark out of the way at the last second. The force of Arlo's landing created a large hole that he got stuck in. Suddenly, the effects of the gadget wore off, and Arlo disappeared.
"Where did he go?" Laura Reed wondered.
"I'm not sure."
They headed over to the hole to investigate, where they found Arlo hanging onto a broken underground pipe, feeling hurt and crying.
"Don't worry. We'll get you out." Laura Reed assured him.
Residents of Pixfaire had arrived on the scene to help as Clark backed a truck up next to the hole.
"I got this." Michelle grabbed one end of the rope and tied it to the truck's hitch.
"We can help too." Remy said, with the help of Mei.
The other supers also joined in. Karen dropped the rope down the side of the hole and everyone took hold of the rope.
Laura Reed kissed Clark on the lips. "Most people would let that dinosaur die after what he's done."
"You wouldn't." Clark picked up the rope. "All right." He wrapped some slack rope around his waist. "All right, Arlo! I'm coming down! He started to repel down the hole. Arlo was still sniffling when he felt a touch. "Take my hand." Clark said, extending his hand once he was at the same level.
"No!"
"No?"
"I don't want to go back up there. I should just let go!"
"You'll die."
"Maybe death hurts less than life."
"If you really wanted to die, you would have let go already. Now take my hand!"
Arlo was about to when he was touched by another person. He turned to face them.
"Don't look down." The voice advised. It was revealed to be Marina, who came just in time with a test tube full of green liquid labeled 'Human Transformation.' "Now just hold still." Dr. Fields gave Arlo a shot, injecting the fluid into his body and soon he began changing.
"Wh-what's happening?" Arlo asked nervously. He closed his eyes, not aware that one by one, every one of his dinosaur features were beginning to disappear, bones started cracking and he began to shrink.
Marina was amazed that the serum was working. The town watched as the dinosaur transformed while some parents shielded their children's eyes to watch what was happening. Arlo was now a slightly muscular 11-year-old boy with messy dark brown hair. When he opened his eyes, he saw that his dinosaur feet had been replaced by human hands, fingers, feet, and toes.
"Wh-what did you do to me?"
"Just calm down." Marina said, trying to calm the boy down. She took off her lab coat and wrapped it around him. "The shot I give you is a human serum that makes you, well, human. It might be getting used to, but you'll get better at it, I promise." She wrapped him in her arms and grabbed Clark's hand as the people above pulled them out of the hole.
After he was finally rescued, Dr. Fields helped Arlo take his first steps. She held his hand to help him balance and to keep him from falling. Arlo didn't know what was going on until he fell into the arms of a boy a couple of years younger than him.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Arlo apologized, embarrassed. He looked up to see a familiar-looking boy, around almost 9 with green eyes, unique teeth, and brown messy hair. Arlo screamed and backed away from the boy.
The boy began to circle Arlo, sniffing him and remembering the scent of the formal dinosaur. Arlo looked at him, thinking he had seen him before. "Spot? Is that you?" Spot nodded yes and hugged him. "It's great to see you too." Arlo smiled, hugging him back.
"Spot!" A family with white hair, brown eyes, and wearing country-style clothes cried, running over to their youngest son when they noticed Arlo.
"Hey, you're family's here too?"
"Sorry for our son." The mother said, catching up to Spot. "He just ran off when we were about to get back to the farm to avoid the rampage, but he went off and he could have been killed. Don't worry, it won't-" The mother was shocked to see Arlo in human form, and tears started to form in her eyes.
"Oh. I'm sorry I went crazy like that." Arlo apologized. "I didn't mean to hurt anyone."
"It's ok." Spot's mother said. "Y-you're a human."
"Yeah. That lady gave me a shot that turned me human." He explained, pointing to Marina.
Spot's mother noticed Marina. She waved to her and smiled.
"Hey, I'll explain to you guys in private after we get the place and Arlo cleaned up." Marina said.
Spot's mother nodded in agreement. Spot's father and siblings with the same hair color, eyes, and clothing as the mother, came over. They offered to take Arlo to their house to give him a change of clothes.
"T-Thank you." Arlo said.
The rescue group soon entered the diner, with Arlo, who was now fully dressed.
"This is Ellen's." Lucius showed him around. "She makes a mean lasagna and runs an inn, so I'm sure we can set you up with a room till you find a place."
"Thanks, but I think I'll set up camp in the woods."
"The woods?"
"Yeah, I'm better off alone. I don't exactly fit in."
"You're in the right place. Pixfaire's got all kinds. Toys, bugs, monsters, you name it. Michelle, beers all around!"
Everyone gathered together at the bar as Michelle started pouring drinks.
"We all miss our land, Arlo." Laura Reed sympathized. "But this is our home now."
"You never think about going back?"
"Of course we do. It's just not possible."
"We have no way to get there." Clark added.
Arlo suddenly had an idea. "How's the farmland here?"
"Pretty good. Why?"
Arlo showed them the vial with a seed inside. "If I plant this, it should be able to grow some marigolds. And then, you just may have a way."
Later, Clark, Laura Reed, and Arlo were gathered in a field where Arlo was examining the soil.
"Well, what's the verdict?" Clark asked.
"Soil's got a nice loamy feel. A lot of minerals. The flowers should grow well here. Only one problem."
"What's that?"
"Evelyn. This is why she brought me. She wanted me to grow marigolds. So whatever she plans to do with them, it can't be good."
"Then we won't let her get to them." Laura Reed decided.
"Hey, Ms. Reed. I thought you weren't coming for our tea time until next we-" Said a female voice walking towards them. It was a woman in her mid-30s with dark blonde hair tied in a ponytail with bangs and the top of her hair was dyed a dark green ombre, lovely emerald green eyes, and was wearing a lime green t-shirt, shamrock green overalls, and pear green yard shoes, holding a box with red apples when she noticed Arlo and dropped the box. "A-Arlo?"
"Yes?" Arlo turned to face the woman. "Uh, sorry, but do I know you?"
"M-my boy." The woman, who was named Ida, began to check him and hugged him in tears. "It is you?" Memories started flooding back to her.
Confused, Arlo pulled back and looked into her eyes. "Momma?"
"Yes! It's me, Momma." She hugged him again.
Arlo smiled and hugged her back. "I thought you were gone."
"And I thought you were dead." Ida said.
Just then, two other voices that belonged to two 17-year-old twins came to the scene.
"What's going on, Momma?" Asked the boy with blonde messy hair with lime green highlights and the same color eyes as the mom, and was wearing an avocado green checkered button-up shirt, dark green ripped jeans, and teal shoes
"Brother! Stop right there!" said the girl with reddish-blonde shoulder-length hair with muti green streaks, and brown eyes, but was wearing a teal elbow-sleeved shirt, ripped green legging pants, underneath blue jeans shorts, white socks, and emerald green boots. They all had freckles and a slight tan. They were surprised when they saw Arlo.
"Kids, you're not going to believe this. Your brother's alive." Ida said to the twins.
"W-What?!" The girl said. "I don't believe it!"
Arlo looked at the twins curiously. "Libby? Buck?"
"Y-yea, it's us!" Libby said, hugging Arlo.
"We thought we'd never see you again." Buck joined in.
"And I thought you were all dead." Arlo said.
"This is great. We're all together again." Ida smiled and gathered all three of her kids into a big hug. She then looked at Clark and Laura Reed. "Thank you so much for bringing Alro back to us." Ida said with a warm smile.
"It was our pleasure."
"So, what brings you here?" Ida asked. Arlo told her all about his idea to use the soil to grow marigolds.
"M-Marigolds? How did you how about planting them?" Ida asked.
Arlo reached into his pocket and showed her the vial with a seed inside.
"Well, Momma, it looks like we have some flowers to grow." Said Buck.
"And to take Arlo home with us." Libby added.
"So what do you say? You up for some help?"
"Yeah." Arlo nodded.
The four began walking to their truck, but before they left, Ida took one last look at the Parrs and smiled warmly at the family that brought Arlo back to them. Clark and Laura Reed smiled back at them and waved as they left.
That night, Laura Reed was waiting outside the diner when Clark came out with two cups of coffee and handed one to her.
"Here's to not getting squashed by a dinosaur." He held his up in a toast.
"I'll drink to that." They tapped their cups together and began to walk down the street, holding hands. "I had a lot of fun today."
"Fun?"
"Uh-huh."
"Almost getting killed is fun?"
"Yeah. I missed our adventures."
"Me, too. It was kind of fun. You know, we could do this all the time. When the flowers grow, we could go back. Everyone could go home."
"I don't know." Laura Reed looked unsure.
"What don't you know?"
"Home is where our family is. And that's here. I don't know if Jack-Jack would come with us, and I'm not going to be separated from him again."
"You're worried about him."
"Aren't you?"
"Of course, but Jack-Jack..." he sighed. "Jack-Jack can take care of himself. And I'm sure wherever he and Hilary are, they're safe."
Ms. Cordwain, Jack, and Hilary had boarded the plane and were seated, waiting for takeoff.
"You good, kid?" Jack asked Hilary who was eating from a box of cinnamon buns on her lap.
"You kidding? A trip with you, first plane ride, and we're going on a quest like in the book. The only thing that could make this day better... is more frosting."
Jack looked amused and then turned to Ms. Cordwain, who seemed fidgety. "It's going to be all right. We're going to find your relative."
"I know." She said, trying to put on a brave face.
"Welcome, folks, to Ajira Airlines regional flight 53, with nonstop service to New York City." The flight attendant announced. "Our flight time tonight is 42 minutes. Please sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride."
