Chapter Two

Upon being left on her own with her prior classmate, Kagome attempted to keep the conversation friendly despite how irritated she actually was deep inside. It wasn't easy to hide her annoyance at it all, but she'd somehow managed such a challenging feat given the circumstances.

She rested her chin on her palm, nodding faintly in response to a question Hojo had asked her. She felt somewhat bad for being mostly on the silent end, but he hadn't seemed to notice yet, so it was probably fine. It was nice having the chance to catch up with him, but it would've also been nice to catch up with her other friends at the same time, at least.

Lost in thought, she picked up on a familiar aura coming closer to where she sat, and, for a moment, she was struck with confusion.

"What's he doing here?" The thought coursed through her mind, though she refrained from turning in her seat so it wouldn't draw any attention. Maybe it was just an odd occurrence, and there was nothing more to it. At least, that was what she'd first assumed before it became extremely obvious that he was heading straight for where their table was.

Kagome glanced at Hojo's face to see if he'd picked up on what she had, but it wasn't until Gojo had actually gotten closer that he'd realized. Kagome was swift to note how he'd gone pale, and she felt a frown pull at her lips. She tilted her head back to glance at her white-haired classmate. Before she could manage to say a single word, he'd beat her to it.

"Sorry, am I interrupting your date?"

The last word was spoken with a bit more bite to it, and she was taken aback by the edge in his tone.

Gojo could tell that he'd unnerved the boy seated across from Kagome, and it gave him a sense of satisfaction. Kagome looked up at him, confusion sparking in her sapphire blue eyes. The clear spark of surprise that lingered in her eyes only added salt to the wound.

He was pissed that she'd somehow managed to lie to his face, but he was even more pissed that she'd done so in order to go on a date. He couldn't even recall a single moment she talked about some guy when she mentioned her friends from middle school- so who the hell was it?

He waited for her to answer. A few seconds ticked by, and he noted the frustration that seemed to flicker into her expression.

"What're you doing here?" she bit out with a hiss.

"C'mon, Kagome, you're telling me this guy's your type?" Gojo remarked. He noted the flush of red that stained her cheeks. "You and I both know it's not gonna work out."

"Mind your business," Kagome responded. Did she like Hojo? Not any more than she did any other friend, but she wasn't about to say that right now.

Gojo reached for an empty chair, tugging it so it was on the same side of the table Kagome sat at. He sat down, reaching to drape an arm across her shoulders. When he looked back at the other boy, Gojo could easily note how uncomfortable he'd gotten. He was well aware he was treading on thin ice, but he decided to push a little more. "Or, has she told you all the little secrets she has?" He felt her stiffen under his arm, and that was the only answer he needed. Gojo looked at her with feigned disappointment. "Tsk Kagome, what a little liar you are." His tone was teasing, light-hearted.

"Shut up," Kagome hissed. "You don't know what you're talking about."

"Don't I?" he challenged. "I guarantee I know more about you than him," he continued. He wouldn't dare to actually let anything slip, but he couldn't help but want to tease a bit more. "I mean, the jewel alone…-"

"Jewel?" The comment caused only a confused response from Hojo.

Kagome's eyes widened as she shoved Gojo's arm from where it rested across her shoulders, expression aghast that he would dare to toe that line so casually. "What's your problem?!" Kagome clenched her hands into fists at her side as she stood up from her chair. "You're acting like-!"

"I-I'm gonna go…-" Hojo cut in, standing up as well. Kagome glanced at him.

"W-Wait, no, give me a few seconds," she tried to say, and Gojo scoffed.

"'Bout time you get the hint."

"Oh, shut up!" Kagome huffed, turning back to glare at him. As she did, she paid no mind to her prior companion awkwardly walking off. "You're such an insufferable jerk!"

"You're the one who lied," he countered. Kagome felt her brow twitch as she glared at him.

"I didn't lie," she remarked. "I thought I was going to catch up with the girls I went to middle school with," she said. "That was the plan. They only told me that so they could try to set me up with him since none of our dates ever went well in middle school." She wasn't even sure why she needed to explain it to him, but she found herself doing so anyway. "They ditched me five minutes after I got here!"

Gojo fell silent as what she said sank in. "So… you and him aren't a thing?" He saw the irritation flash across her face the second after those words left his mouth.

"NO!" Kagome turned to snatch her bag up, shoving past him with anger still simmering in her eyes. "Idiot!"

As she walked off, Gojo turned to watch the path she was taking. The anger radiating off of her could very much be felt even as she got further away. He lifted a hand, threading his fingers through his hair as he sighed.

Well…-

At least he knew there wasn't any competition.

As they watched their raven-haired classmate storm off, Geto sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. "Looks like he's back at square one."

Shoko hummed, shuffling through her pockets until she found her cigarettes. "Honestly, are you surprised?" she remarked.

Geto shook his head. "Not even a tiny bit."

"Wanna make a bet?" Shoko asked after a second or two, the words catching his attention, a curious hum coming from him.

"What about?"

"When do you think he'll finally snap?" she responded. "He's been pining pretty hard lately, but Kagome's oblivious to stuff like that. It's driving him crazy."

Geto put his thumb to his chin as he thought it over. "I give it maybe a few weeks."

"Weeks?" Shoko remarked, finally finding her cigarettes. "You give him too much credit sometimes."

Geto chuckled at her response. "What's your bet then?"

"I give it seven days, tops."

Kagome made her way down the street, muttering under her breath about insufferable white-haired pretty boys and annoying old-school friends.

"Ugh!" Kagome scoffed. "Now I remember why I don't hang out with them anymore," she ranted to herself about her ruined plans. "Every time it ends up with them trying to set me up, and then nothing ever goes right."

Then there was the matter of Gojo. She didn't know what his deal was, but it had driven her up a wall.

"Sorry, am I interrupting your date?"

Those words repeated in her mind, and she was unable to ignore the jealous edge that had lurked in his voice as he said them. After a minute, a grimace appeared on her face.

What reason did he have to possibly be jealous in the first place? It hadn't been an actual date to her, but, if she wanted to go on dates, then what did it matter to him? It shouldn't matter to him!

"Jerk…" she hissed under her breath.

Auroua-chan: So the bet between Geto and Shoko has formed. Shoko has very little faith in Gojo's self-restraint, but that's probably fair.

Kagome's a little bit mad at him right now. Can he make it up to her? Of course, but the question is more of how he'll manage a feat.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
