Chapter 49: Episode 5x14

"He's so big, Teyla!"

The athosian was watching her friend play with Torren on the floor of the common room area, since the baby was being grumpy and was not being able to sleep at all.

"I'm glad that you are back, Alex. We missed you."

The scientist looked up and smiled.

"I missed Atlantis and you all, as well." She sighed. "To be honest, sometimes I do regret leaving, but at the same time, I needed to leave. Have a break from... everything."

"I understand. We all did. Don't worry." Teyla smiled at the faces Alexandra was making at her son. "How was the trip back... with John?"

Glancing back at Teyla, before picking up Torren and placing him on her lap, Alexandra sighed.

"He's behaving, I think. In his own way. But he also told me that whatever he felt is gone. Which is good."

"Do you believe him?" Teyla frowned, sensing her friend's second thoughts. After all, her and the rest of the team saw how much Alexandra's leaving affected John.

"I don't know." The scientist shrugged. "An Ancient sway is always stronger. Somehow, they always have a way of getting what they want, even if not interfering in the lower plains of existence." Alexandra saw her nod.

"Good evening, ladies." John said, approaching both and sitting down next to Teyla on the sofa.

"Evening, Sheppard." The scientist looked up at him with a smile and one brow up at what he had in his hands. "What have you got there?"

"Racing cars. Brought them for a little fun. Care for a race, O'Neill?" The pilot offered a smile to Torren that was already cooing for his attention.

"Unfortunatly, I can't. I have to gear up, actually. I'm accompanying Nicholls team in about an hour." She said looking at her watch.

"But it's night time." He had an almost pout in his lips.

"Here, John. The place we are going it's day time." Alexandra rolled her eyes with a chuckle.

"Well, good luck, then." There was a self control tone to his words that he hoped no one had picked up on. He wanted things to be easy and comfortable for her, without his thoughts coming in the way of their friendship.

"Thank you." Alexandra turned to Teyla, who had been watching John from the moment he had entered the common room area. "We'll talk more when I get back. Perhaps I can babysit Torren, so you can have a night off with Kanaan."

"That would be great, actually." The athosian gave a happy sigh.

"It's a plan." Alexandra stood. "Have a goodnight. Both of you."

"You too, doc." As she left, John turned back to Teyla that had a curious look on her face. "So, little guy not sleeping, uh?"

"No. Gonna try to settle him down." She picked up her baby but didn't move from her spot. "Is everything okay, John?"

"Why do you ask?" Hazel eyes found dark ones.

"You've spent two weeks on Earth, with Alex, both are attacked and you bring her with you, spending another two weeks on a ship. Pratically alone, I might add." Teyla sighed as if talking to another child.

"She only came back because her uncle ordered her to. She's not exactly happy." He tried to deflect. Teyla had a knack for reading him too well.

"That is not the point, John. I just saw the way you looked at her."

The pilot sighed and leaned back on the sofa.

"Everything is okay between us. Don't worry, Teyla. I learned my lesson."

"But are you okay?" She pressed on the word 'you'.

"I will be. I have to be." Even if Mitchell's words kept ringing in his ears as he went through them over and over again on the trip back to Pegasus Galaxy.

Teyla pursed her lips and nodded, standing up.

"Well, I'm around if you want to talk. And please do. Don't make me kick your ass because you made Alex go away once again." She gave him a smile. "Have a goodnight, Colonel."

"You too." John offered a smile back, watching her go with a cooing Torren.

Then, he too stood up and went to find someone to race with.

Hours Later

As the Ancient city lights turn off on their own, both Rodney and John find out that the only place still with power is the main tower. However, soon they realize they are locked out from the main stairwell that leads to the control room.

"You're right, though. Someone's taken over Atlantis." Rodney said as the pilot entered his lab, waiting for good news. "They hacked into the mainframe. I'm having a hard time accessing several critical systems, and the ones I can access are read only."

As the scientist says this, Zelenka appears shortly after the colonel, explaining that he got the transporters back online, but not the ones from the gate room.

"Surveillance cameras." John snapped his fingers all of a sudden.

"They're not critical systems. I should be able to access them if... Got it." Rodney immediately keys in a few commands into his computer.

And, as soon as the cameras got back online, they discover a puddle jumper in the gate room area and Teyla and Torren in Woolsey's office.

And all do to Michael.

As the hours pass by, a plan is hatched and as Ronon fights Michael and his minions, John and Rodney were able to power one of the jumpers from the underwater bay so they could fly it back into the gate room.

However, Zelenka offered another option, which made the scientist fly the spare jumper alone and dial the gate, this way obliterating part of Michael's jumper, while John lead a strike team at the same time through one of the entrances.

As soon as the force field was down, gun fire and stun gun shots flew by in the scuffle, and the colonel finally finds his mark.

"Get a medic!" John shouts as soon as he sees Ronon on the floor, uncouscious. Without wasting another heartbeat, he runs after the half wraith. "Close the Jumper Bay doors, Radek!"

As the pilot appeared by one of the jumpers tower parapets, Michael surprised him, almost making him fall into the open air. However, John was able to put himself onto his feet and a fight between the two ensued.

"Too bad Dr. O'Neill is not around." Michael grunted at a punch.

"I'm sure she would have loved to have a go at you, Michael." John was out of breath, spitting blood.

There was a dry laugh coming from the half wraith.

"Well, it is obvious you're not able to protect Atlantis conveniently... " Those words made the pilot frown. "She would have made a much better job at it."

The anger John was feeling at Atlantis being in peril once again, made his fist connect hard to Michael's jaw.

"Also... a blood sample from her... would have been a bonus..." Those ragged words made John falter and Michael took his chance, pinning the colonel against a wall, punching him in victory at finding the colonel's pressure point.

However, Michael didn't count on an angry Mama.

Two Days Later

"Hey! You're back! How was MS-301?" John stopped mid way to the mess hall upon seeing Alexandra already out of her gear and walking towards her private quarters.

"It was fine, actually. Some ruins, but nothing out of the ordinary. Woolsey already briefed me about what happened. Already seen Lorne and Ronon. Quite an adventure you all lived through." Her brown eyes went over him in a heartbeat. "You should put some ice on that eye." At John's nod, she continued. "I wish I had been here." Not only to help her friends, but to also have a go at the half wraith. She wouldn't have needed her powers to do it.

There was a moment where hazel and brown met, as if both saying something more. John remembered the half wraith words about Atlantis and what he wanted from Alexandra. Even though he didn't react at first, his knuckles hurt at the memory.

"At least he got what he deserved. I hear Teyla was a badass." Alexandra continued, upon the pilot's silent stance.

"She really was. Michael got on the bad side of the wrong mama."

"True." She chuckled.

"Well, I won't keep you up any longer. You look tired. Have a good... night, doc." He turned with a playful smile and walked away from her.

Alexandra watched him go, undecisive on what to do. Since leaving Earth, she could feel that there was a distance between the two. She knew they had a moment right before Mitchell had found them in Langara, and she was glad John had kept it simple, not thinking too much of it, and not mentioning it either. Which made her believe that everything that had happened between the two was in the past. But she knew him. It was like the pilot was hiding something, or on a verge of doing something that it would burst out of him and take everyone out around him.

"John?" She called after him.

The pilot turned, expectantly, not exactly believing she had called him back.

"Yeah? Something's up?" He stepped closer to her.

"Are we okay?"

"Yeah. Well, I think we are. Right?" John's hand rubbed the back of his neck as a frown appeared on his forehead.

Brown eyes tried to find some lie in those words.

"Yeah, of course. Hum... how about breakfast. Tomorrow?"

"Sure. It's a… plan." John smiled with a nod.

"It is." Alexandra smiled, then turned away. "Have a good day, Sheppard."

The pilot grinned, seeing her walk away.
