(Snapped)

(Harrisburg, Pennsylvania)

(July 1990)

Whisper was five months old, so she grew quite a lot since Rose took her under her paw. They never left each other's side.

During that time, Rose had told Whisper about her family and all the adventures they've had over the years, especially with Oliver and Ryan. There was never a dull moment with them.

That night in Harrisburg, it was cold. The dogs had to find shelter to stay out it, however they didn't realize that danger was around the corner. They found shelter in an alleyway.

Whisper rested her head on Rose's back, sleeping soundly. Rose rested her head on her right foreleg, ears dropped a little bit.

Things were going okay until Rose heard growling coming from the end of the lumberyard. It sounded close too. Rose slowly stood up and walked out of their shelter.

"Mom, what's wrong?" Whisper asked groggily, yawning as she woke up. "Shh, quiet," Rose whispered, standing still with her tail and ears perked up.

Whisper knew what her mother meant by that and stayed as quiet as she could. Rose kept her guard, growling quietly. "Who's there? Show yourself," Rose demanded, hackles raised up.

"You're in the wrong area, missy," a deep voice growled from her right. Her pointed ear, her right ear twitching to the right. She turned to the right and her heart raced when she saw a large Saint Bernard that was two times bigger than herself.

Rose wasn't gonna giving this dog the satisfaction of being intimidated. She's fought with dogs bigger than her and have always knew just how to deal with this guy. "Wrong area? I-" She started before remembering that Whisper was behind her in that box, hiding carefully.

"I'm leaving tomorrow, buddy. So you better leave me alone, or you'll end up in the vet with a thermometer under your tail," she threatened, ready to fight if needed to. The Saint Bernard laughed at her threat, finding it hilarious.

Rose was perplexed, his reaction wasn't at all what she was expecting. "What's so funny?" She asked, baring her canine teeth. "Just the knowledge that this is going to be a quick fight," he answered, walking towards the mix-bred dog.

Rose growled deeper, baring her teeth at him. "You want to fight, big guy? Then, bring it on," she dared. The Saint Bernard grinned a toothy grin. "Let's see what you got, worthless mutt," he said.

Whisper carefully peeked around the corner of the box, watching this happen. Rose leaped in the air and sank her teeth into the Saint Bernard's neck, growling loudly, shaking her head back and forth.

The Saint Bernard sighed and used his front paw to knock her down to her back, making her release her bite. "You don't know the first thing about fighting, do you?" He growled, pining her to the wall.

"Just give up, mutt. You don't stand a chance," he laughed. Rose growled with her teeth bared, staring right at him. "I will not, you rat bastard," she growled, biting him on the right foreleg, near his paw.

The bite was so hard that his leg started bleeding. The Saint Bernard gritted his teeth and squeezed his eyes shut. "Get off!" He growled, biting her on the back. He knocked her down to the ground, making her bleed.

Rose tried to get to her paws, blood dripping from her open wound. Rose yelped in pain, struggling to stand up.

She wasn't giving up though. She was a street dog and they don't give up a fight.

She pushed herself up to her paws, her legs shaking. "Whoops, looks like I opened up some wounds there," The Saint Bernard laughed. Rose glanced up at him, tongue hanging out.

She growled and charged at him again. The Saint Bernardbit her on the back while she bit him on the shoulder.

The Saint Bernard sunk his teeth deeper into Rose's back, pushing her down to the ground. The male dog stepped off of her, waiting for her to give up.

Rose growled with her teeth clenched. She pressed her paws to the dirt and pushed herself up, her legs shaking. "Why don't you just give up, mutt?" he sighed, ears tilted back a bit.

"I'm a street dog from New York, so I never give up a fight," She said, keeping her canine teeth bared. She charged at him, jumping on his back and bit down hard.

The Saint Bernard twisted his head and sank his teeth into her back, pulling her off and sank his teeth in the side of her neck, pulling her pelt. Rose glared at him and growled, snarling loudly.

She may have been in a lot of pain, but she couldn't give up that easy. She had to keep fighting for her family and for Whisper. The Shepherd mix jumped on his back, sinking her teeth in the nape of his neck.

The Saint Bernard started jumping around like a horse, desperately trying to get her off. "Get off!" He growled, turning his head and grabbed her by her right foreleg.

He threw her to the ground, making her land on her back. "You never learn," he groaned. He sank his claws into her throat, choking her. She dug her hindpaws into her throat. "You ready to die, mutt? You're not even worth the ground you stand," He growled.

Whisper saw this and rushed out. She ran at him and used her body weight to push the dog over. "You leave her alone!" Whisper yelled.

The Saint Bernard smiled at Whisper's size, clearly underestimating her. "Oh please. Stay out of this, pup. Let the grown ups talk, besides, what is she to you?" He laughed.

"She's my mother and friend! I won't allow you to hurt her!" Whisper barked, standing in front of Rose, who lay on her side. She opened her eye, seeing Whisper standing in front of her.

"What're you planning to do about this? If she can't take me on, then what makes you think a pup like you can?" He laughed.

Whisper turned around and looked at the German Shepherd. "I'm half husky and half labrador, two very protective and loyal dogs. They will protect anything that they love. When I taste blood, you will see just what I'm talking about," she explained.

"Whisper, no!" Rose cried, but it was too late. Whisper licked an open wound on Rose, her blood making Whisper see red. She looked at the German Shepherd, growling loudly with her teeth bared.

Rose rolled over in shock, eyes widened, mouth agap, ears dropped. She never expected Whisper to snap like this.

Whisper ran and leaped in the air, landing on the shepherds back, biting his ear. She dug her claws into the side of his neck. He looked up and growled at her.

She ripped his ear clean off before jumping off. She looked at him, his ear still in her mouth. Her eyes were full of listening, red, no longer blue.

"My ear… you vile mutt," he growled, blood oozing out like a fountain.

Whisper threw the ear across the alleyway, the blood still on her jaws. After licking it, she smiled in a crazy way. "So good," she said.

Whisper and the Saint Bernard charged at each other, teeth bared, saliva being flung. Whisper bit down on the back of his neck, pulling out a chunk of its pelt off his neck.

Rose was frightened by Whisper's blood thirsty outburst. She hadn't ever seen her like this. It reminded her of when she was her age, doing the same on a street dog.

The Saint Bernard threw Whisper off, growling as he bit her on the back. "I won't be bested by a pup!" He shouted. Whisper stood in a fighting stance, still snarling with her tail raised up all the way.

She charged at him again, bitting him on the side of his neck, ripping more of his pelt off, eating the pieces she pulled off. "I need more!" She growled.

The Shepherd was barely able to stand on his own paws, blood spilled from his opened wounds. His tongue hung out, unable to catch his breath.

Whisper snarled loudly, jaws open.

She crept closer to him, not letting up on the bigger dog. "Can we call this a draw? You can't possibly be fighting like this," he said, blood spilling out of his bottom jaw.

Whisper viciously barks at him, runs at him and jumped on him, sinking her teeth into his neck, knocking the big dog on his side. She pulled off another piece of his pelt, making him yelp in pain.

Rose realized that she needed to stop Whisper's murderous rampage. She remembered how Dodger knocked her out when she went crazy before. She pushed herself up to her paws, her legs shaking as she struggled to stand up.

She walked to her, standing back for a moment, ears laid down on the sides of head. Whisper saw Rose standing behind her, causing her to growl louder.

"Mine…" she growled defensively. Rose dropped her head with a sigh. "I'm sorry, Whisper…" she said, backing up a bit before charging at her, jumping in the air. Rose landed on her and bit the pup on the neck hide, pulling Whisper off of the Saint Bernard.

Whisper snarled, twisting her head to bite Rose, who had her front paws wrapped around Whisper's neck so she could hang on. It was a knock out move, which was used on her before.

Whisper's legs began to tremble as she walked forward, Rose still hanging from her neck. The mix-bred pup shoved the older dog against the alleyway wall, hitting Rose's back wound, stunning her for a second.

The move was working because Whisper started panting, showing she was getting tired. This gave Rose the chance shove her to the ground with a loud slam. Whisper cried out, teeth bared. Rose laid on her, pinning her legs to the ground, still biting down on her neck hide.

Whisper felt dizzy and passed out, head dropped in her pool of blood. Rose let go of her, panting heavily. She stumbled off of Whisper, huffing loudly.

Blood flowed down her beaten and battered body. She felt exhausted and collapsed to the ground, slowly passing out.

She wasn't giving up though. She was a street dog and they don't give up a fight.

She pushed herself up to her paws, her legs shaking. "Whoops, looks like I opened up some wounds there," The Saint Bernardlaughed. Rose glanced up at him, tongue hanging out.
