Chapter 5 Meet and Greet

In the base, Susan and the other monsters were in the main hangout room awaiting the arrival of the Supers. Both Susan and Dr. Cockroach knew what Supers were and were filling in what they were to their fellow monsters.
"So let me get this straight, these Supers are basically humans with unique abilities that give them things like super strength and other powers." Said Link.
"That's about the sum of it." Said Dr. Cockroach.
"Where they come from?" Asked B.O.B.
"Well unlike most of us here, the Supers were born naturally and they just passed on their unique genes to their offspring, who either inherit similar or different powers. Really quit remarkable really. There are many theories of how the Super first came to be. Some indicate that all the nuclear experiments back during the Second World War and Cold War infected several people and caused mutations in their bodies giving them powers. In a sense, Supers could be considered monsters on the genetic level." Said Dr. Cockroach.
"How tough are these Supers anyway?" Asked Link.
"They are probably very powerful, since the military is asking them to fight this alien threat." Said Dr. Cockroach.
"Well I'm sure this'll be a win for the Supers' public image. They can use some good publicity." Said Susan.
"What do you? Before my mutation and capture, Supers were absolutely loved by the public." Said Dr. Cockroach.
"Well several years back some suicide jumper got rescued and injured by a Super named Mr. Incredible. That jumper sued him and won and this lead to other people into suing Supers for injuries and property damage. It got so bad that the government had to make superheroes illegal and the Supers were forced to retire and hide their abilities as they took up normal jobs and lives." Said Susan.
"My word! That's terrible and very illogical! Suing Supers for helping is basically the equivalent of suing any person who helps society in any way! I'm completely baffled that the people of the world would think this was a good idea." Said Dr. Cockroach.
"So are the Supers, outlaw vigilantes?" Asked Link.
"No. Supers are allowed to be superheroes now. It's been legalized. There was a giant robot attack about a year ago that was stopped by a family of supers and a few months after that a big cooperation called Devtech launched a big campaign to have superheroes legalized and they succeeded. Both events were all over the news." Said Susan.
"At least logic and goodwill prevailed in the end. I look forward to meeting these Supers and working alongside them." Said Dr. Cockroach.
"Well it gives me a chance to show off my guns." Said Link as he flexed his arms.
It was then that some soldiers came into the room carrying a long table with coffee, water, and pastries on it. Monger walked into the room and faced the monsters.
"Alright monsters, listen up. The Supers will be arriving shortly to meet you. This will be a meet and greet before we head into training. I want you to be on your best behavior and play nice. This is a historic event and the fate of the world depends on your corporation and teamwork. Now let's get ready to mingle." Said Monger.
The monsters prepared for their guests and put on happy and friendly faces. Some time later the Supers arrived. Monger lead Rick, Bob, Helen, Jack-Jack, Dash, Violet, Frozone, Brick, He-lectrix, Krushauer, Screech, Reflux, and Voyd into the room to meet the monsters. Both teams sized each other up. The Supers were a bit surprised by the monsters' appearances and they had to crane their necks up to look at the enormous forms of Susan and Insectosaurus.
Dash looked at the monsters with awe and excitement.
Brick looked up at Susan with a bit of envy. For the first time in her life the big female hero felt small to another person.
"Hello Supers! My name is Benzonate Ostylezene Bicarbonate or B.O.B for short. We are monsters, but do not fear, we will not hurt you." Said B.O.B as he waved at the supers.
Helen decided to be the first of the Supers to make the first move and greet the monsters. She walked towards the monsters and stretched and extended her right arm towards them to shake her hand.
"Hi. The names Elastigirl. It's nice to meet you and I look forward to working with all of you." Said Helen.
The monsters were briefly stunned by Helen's power and they looked at one another wondering who should be the first to shake the Super's hand. Susan decided to go first. She bent down and took a knee and extended her right index finger to Helen. Helen looked at the giant digit and took it stretching her fingers around the tip, so she could grasp it. Susan slowly and carefully moved her finger up and down a little as she shook Helen's hand.
"Hi. The government calls me Ginormica, though you all can call me Susan. It's nice to meet you." Said Susan with a smile.
The tension and the awkwardness in the room seemed to melt away as both teams stepped forward and began to introduce themselves. The teams had met now it was time to mingle.
